Trivia / Tactics Ogre

  • Acting for Two: The Japanese voice acting in Japanese Saturn had multiple actors as multiple characters. They don't necessarily talk to each other.
  • All-Star Cast: Despite being based on a PSP remake of a thirty year old game, the Reborn remaster has a shockingly stacked cast in either language. To wit
  • Content Leak: The Reborn remaster has been terrible with this, first being revealed in the infamous NVidia leak, then having its store page accidentally put up on the Playstation Store, and then said store page being leaked again by a price-tracking website a week before the official reveal.
  • Creator-Chosen Casting: On Twitter, Matsuno said that his choice for Deneb nearly thirty years ago was Fumi Hirano, who now voices her in the Reborn remaster.
  • Fake Brit: While using British accents, most of the cast such as Denam and Vyce are voiced by Americans in Reborn. There are exceptions, such as Catiua who is voiced by the English Victoria Atkin and Warren voiced by the Scottish Alastair Duncan.
  • God Never Said That: Matsuno never confirmed that more than one version of Chapter 4 was ever planned; his only comment in the 25th Anniversary interview was that he wanted multiple endings depending on whether or not Catiua dies, but never suggested that the story could diverge from this series of events.
  • No Dub for You: The Sega Saturn version has Japanese voice acting not seen in other versions, even the PSP one. This is finally averted in the Reborn remaster, which features voice acting in both English and Japanese.
    • The narration used in the PSP version is English in all regions.
  • The Other Darrin: Due to the couple decades since the Saturn release, the Reborn remaster features new voices for the characters.
  • Promoted Fangirl: Maria Kawamura played the original on the Super Famicom with her family. Come Reborn, she now voices Sherri.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: Contrary to popular belief, you can not get Lanselot Tartaros and two of the other Dark Knights in Tactics Ogre. In the PSP remake, going Lawful means you can get Ozma. She's one of, if not the most powerful character you can get, due to her massive RT bonus (meaning she moves vastly faster than anyone else). She's also exceptional base stats and a fantastic class (with a lowish base RT, further increasing her speed advantage) that's normally Villain-Only.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In the 2020 interview for the game’s 25th anniversary, Matsuno revealed that four versions of Chapter 3 had been planned, but they were limited by data restrictions (Super Nintendo and all). He implies that the audience (most of whom would have been children) being more likely to refuse the prerequisite for Lawful (slaughtering innocent people) influenced the choice to keep the Chaotic branch into Neutral. Regardless, the devs were allegedly happy with the finished product anyways.
    • Let Us Cling Together was subtitled Episode VII. There were only 5 official games in the timeline and two of them (Gaiden and Person of Lordly Caliber) may not even be canon.
    • Matsuno himself stated in an interview he had plans to make an Episode VI focusing on Andoras' country at the same time as Tactics Ogre, and an Episode VIII, set five years after, in Lodis. Whether these games will see the light of day, it's up to Square.
    • In its initial stages, the proposed titles was almost going to be "Lancelot: Somebody To Love" or "The Bequest of King Dorgalha". The former hinting that Lanselot Hamilton could have been the main character.
  • Word of God: As much as people dislike the remake's renamings, most of them were intentional according to the artbook.
