Trivia / JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency

Go To

  • Career Resurrection: The English dub was this for veteran voice actor John DeMita who had dropped out of anime dubbing for a while. Following his role as Kars he would appear in later Bang Zoom! Entertainment dubs such as Hunter × Hunter and One-Punch Man.
  • Executive Meddling: Hirohiko Araki regrets to this day that his publishers forced him to keep Lisa Lisa from being more cool. It would go on to be one of the biggest motivations for him making Stands, since it allowed him to create fights that weren't the same traditional genre style, and allow him to use female characters more naturally.
  • Fake Brit: In the English dub, American voice actors Ben Diskin and Wendee Lee as the British Joseph Joestar and Lisa Lisa.
  • Fake Nationality: In the English dub:
  • Life Imitates Art: One species of newt can extend its ribs like a tiny Santana.
  • The Other Darrin: In the 2012 anime, Tomokazu Sugita voices Joseph, whereas Hōchū Ōtsuka voiced the younger Joseph in the Capcom game.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: "Roundabout" by Yes is used as the ending theme for the anime adaptation, which is also shared by Phantom Blood.
  • Star-Making Role: Alongside Lord Boros in the English dub for One-Punch Man, Esidisi was this for Chris Jai Alex when it came to anime roles.
  • Throw It In!: When Kars picks up Lisa Lisa by her legs during their fight, he makes a guitar noise to mock Joseph. Kazuhiko Inoue made the sounds of a guitar being played to the tone of the anime's closing theme, "Roundabout" over a generic noise. This was liked well enough that it was kept in over changing it, with the English dub doing a similar idea, but having the voice actor make a more metal sounding guitar noise.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • According to someone who saw the infamous Phantom Blood film during its theatrical run in 2007, there was a post-credits sequence of the scene where Joseph saved Smokey from police officers hinting at a Battle Tendency film; plans for one were eventually confirmed via the leaking of several Battle Tendency story boards. However, due to the negative reaction towards the Phantom Blood film and A.P.P.P. losing their rights to work on any future JoJo projects following the whole "DIO reading the Quran" controversy that encompassed the Stardust Crusaders OVAs, the film was never made. Speedwagon and Straizo, the former not even getting to go on the journey with Jonathan and the latter not even showing up in the Phantom Blood film, oddly enough, are both shown in these storyboards.
    • Lisa Lisa was supposed to be more active in the finale, but because of concerns with the idea of a female supporting lead upstaging Joseph, Araki was forced to reduce many of his plans for Lisa Lisa, something he regrets heavily.
    • Tomokazu Sugita didn't think he was getting to play as Joseph, thinking he would play as someone else like Hol Horse, and initially tried out for the role of Jonathan as well. On a more humorous note, he said in the same program that Kazuhiko Inoue did a Gag Dub of the cat that Joseph torments, presumably a la Nyanko-sensei.
