Sandbox / Shotoclone Wick Check

Go To

Shotoclone is a very established archetype in fighting games and I think it's definitely tropeworthy. When browsing the main page though, I feel like there's a lot of examples that really stretch or tip toe around the definition in the description; lots of characters listed that are missing moves/don't have the moves elaborated on, and others that ignore the Jack of All Stats angle or ease of learning the character. There's also a huge amount of ZCE, no alphabetization (not what the thread's for, I know), and some examples that aren't even from video games.

  • Castlevania RPG: Webcomic
  • DEATH BATTLE! (Season One): Not a video game
  • Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid
  • Pokémon: Generation III - Treecko to Sharpedo: (Blaziken)
Loosely speaking; Blaziken is a Fighting-type with specially-based Fire-type attacks and the decent Special Attack to use them, has a Hurricane Kick move in its trademark Blaze Kick, and learns the Shoryuken-like Sky Uppercut naturally. It's also occasionally depicted as one half of a Ryu and Ken-like duo with Lucario, as the "Ken" to Lucario's "Ryu". Pokkén Tournament fully depicts Blaziken as one of these, with Heat Wave as its Kamehame Hadoken.
  • Pokémon: Generation IV - Chatot to Arceus: (Lucario)
Loosely speaking; Lucario is a Fighting-type that learns various Kamehame Hadoken attacks, including its signature Aura Sphere, and can learn the Shoryuken-like Sky Uppercut via breeding. It's also occasionally depicted as one half of a Ryu and Ken-like duo with Blaziken, as the "Ryu" to Blaziken's "Ken". Ironically, Lucario is not this in its fighting game appearances.
  • Tekken: Kazuya Mishima
Seems to be initially designed to be the "Ryu" of the game: Shoryuken: check. Hurricane Kick: check. Fireball? Tekken doesn't really have those... but they do have Devils with lasers — close enough! Dressed in white? Checkarooni! Blonde American rival who dresses in red? Yep! (At least for the first game...). He's intended to be a subversion as well, since he's a villain and one of the hardest characters to play.
  • Wishmere: Only a projectile and uppercut
