Sand Box / GUAE Red Zeon High Command

Go To

High Command manages all military operations of the GUAE Mecha Cohort, specifically matters pertaining to this faction. Considering the civil war happening at the moment between Char and Gihren, this faction's High Command forms half of the complete GUAE Mecha Cohort High Command.

Their primary headquarters (and of the faction as a whole) is on a re-creation of the Axis asteroid fortress. Since A Baoa Qu is situated in the GUAE's extradimensional space and is the only one allowed in the Pantheon, their fortress lies on the dimensional bridge between the Pantheon and the Universal Century universe. Talks about invasion of the universe have hit a wall because every time a task force is dispatched, they come out in a different time period.

Supreme Commander

    Char Aznable
Char Aznable, God of Chromatic Superiority and House Leader of the GUAE Mecha Cohort (The Red Comet, Casval Rem Deikun, Édouard Mass, Quattro Bajeena, a CHAR)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/char_counterattack.png
  • Intermediate God
  • Rank: OF-10 (Fleet Admiral), Field Marshal on Earth
  • Symbol: Zeon Crest on a red field, or any scarlet paint job on his mobile suits
  • Alignment: True Neutral, leaning towards Neutral Evil
  • Reason for Joining: While he is disgusted by Card Carrying Villains, he believes that Melkor's brutal tactics are the best course of action to usher in peace for the Pantheon and hopefully speed up humanity's evolution into Newtypes.
  • Main Unit: MSN-04SII Nightingale, MSN-02 Perfect Zeong, MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki, MSN-04 Sazabi (his many backups)
  • After Gihren stormed out of a staff meeting when he was being played by Char into thinking he was the Mecha Cohort's leader when in reality he was a liaison to Palpatine, he formed his own coalition of Zeons loyal to him. In response to Gihren's bigheadedness, Char officially declared the split of the Cohort and reluctantly declaring war on the wayward admiral to re-unify Zeon.
  • Char has had to contend with a lot of dissension among the ranks for starting a war with a political rival who had no care for the safety of civilians. Not to mention that his inner circle (not by choice) is made up of his worst political enemies, the Zabis.

Joint Chiefs

These individuals are Char's most trusted enforcers, collectively serving as his Number Two. They may not agree with his outlook on Spacenoids or like him, but their talent and military prowess, and most importantly, humanity come above all. The Zabis are obviously united by their mutual hatred of Gihren for killing their father. These include the fleet commanders, head of intelligence, etc.

    Haman Karn
Haman Karn, Goddess of Glorious Leaders, Leader of the Axis Zeon Contingent and Commander-in-Chief of the First Fleet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e64.png
  • Intermediate Goddess
  • Rank: OF-9 (Admiral)
  • Symbol: The Axis Zeon Crest, or her signature pink and white paint job
  • Alignment: Lawful Evil
  • Reason for Joining: Sick of the Forever War in the Pantheon, she intends to prove naysayers wrong and extinguish her inner demons by using the Mecha Cohort to bring peace to the UC universe and rule it alongside Char.
  • Loyalty to Char: High. She has long had a romantic interest in him, which shows in how fanatically she fights for him. However, her vision for a better world noticeably differs from Char's, so if their ultimate goal remains the same, she's loyal.
  • Threat Level: High. She's a very capable Newtype and inspiring leader, with abilities that may or may not exceed Char's. For a pilot having abilities to match Char is proof enough.
  • Main Unit: AMX-004 Qubeley, NMX-004 Qubeley Papillon Haman Karn Custom (back-up)
  • She wanted to be the only second-in-command of Char's faction, seeing herself as the rightful heir to Zeon's legacy if Char wasn't around. Char rejected the notion while planning for the official split, wanting an equal say among members of his command. Similarly, she does not dress in her Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ royal regalia, since she's no longer the sole ruler of Neo Zeon.
  • Is the principal commander of the Axis asteroid base and regulates all Mecha Cohort military entry from the Pantheon to the UC universe, and is the top officer of any incursions into the area.
  • Her father, Maharaja Karn has the honorary rank of OF-13 Admiralissimo.

    Aiguille Delaz
Aiguille Delaz, Patron Officer of Bald Villains, Leader of the Delaz Contingent and Commander-in-Chief of the Second Fleet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/delazsitting.jpg
  • Demi Non-Ascendant
  • Rank: OF-8 (Vice Admiral)
  • Symbol: The Garden of Thorns, his home base
  • Alignment: Lawful Evil
  • Reason for Joining: Was originally a Gihren follower and refused to recognise Char's legitimacy as his commander. After an incident described below, he led a mass revolt against Gihren with the help of his officer Anavel Gato and Garma Zabi in retaliation against Gihren's callous and indifferent leadership style. As a reward for this, Delaz is being considered for promotion to Admiral
  • Loyalty to Char: Initially zero, but over time has increased to Medium. Ever since he found out that Char is Zeon's son and the rightful heir to Zeon, and that Gihren masterminded his father's death, he loyally follows Char so long as he proves himself worthy.
  • Threat Level: High. He planned Operation Stardust, a devastating guerilla war operation that succeeded in wiping out most of the Federation's food supply. Do not take him lightly.
  • As before, he commands from the Garden of Thorns. This time, that name is that of a mobile fortress that travels between Gundam universes, handling high-stakes operations. Commanding a mobile fleet has proved very stressful for him.
  • The exact incident that sparked the revolt is as follows; Gihren requested that Delaz handle an incident in the Regild Century part of the Universal Century timeline. This was actually a ploy for Colonel Killing to destroy Delaz's forces at the abandoned Jaburo headquarters with the Solar Ray Cannon as a diversion for Killing's forces to seize G-IT Laboratory. Public opinion turned against Gihren after that, with an incensed Delaz leading the charge. Amid a series of assassination attempts, all dissidents regrouped aboard the Garden of Thorns and fled A Baoa Qu for Axis.
  • His flagship is the Gwadan-class battleship Gwaden II, successor to the original Gwazine-class.

    Gilbert Durandal
Gilbert Durandal, God of Not Believing in Neutrality, Leader of the Moderate ZAFT Contingent and Commander-in-Chief of the Third Fleet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Chairman_Durandal_4305.jpg
  • Lesser God
  • Rank: OF-9 (Admiral)
  • Symbol: The ZAFT logo
  • Alignment: Lawful Neutral to himself; Lawful Evil to his enemies
  • Reason for Joining: Being personal allies with Char certainly helps, but Char had to persuade him that with two Blue Cosmos members in the Pantheon, pursuing his Destiny Plan alone would not bear fruit. Hence, why Durandal joined up so late in the game.
  • Loyalty to Char: Medium. While Char seemingly supports his Destiny Plan for the Cosmic Era universe, he doesn't support its apparent end goal of a new world order based on suitable human genetics. This would eliminate free will, too close to the Grand United Alliance of Law for his liking. Durandal plans to abandon (not betray) Char when he has garnered enough support from outside his borders.
  • Threat Level: High. While he may not have a mobile suit, he has command of the superweapon Requiem and is fully committed to his plan and will eliminate anyone who gets in his way, even the rest of the fleet if he deems it necessary.
  • As stated above, he has command of the superweapon Requiem, one of the principal bases linking the Pantheon with the Gundam SEED universe, the other being GENESIS. This is one of the primary war theaters of the Cohort because Requiem is an Earth Alliance battle station seized by ZAFT. A minority faction of ZAFT led by Rau Le Creuset of the Black faction and Patrick Zala gives him no peace. He often has to pull an Enemy Mine with Lacus Clyne, leader of the majority faction of pacifist Coordinators in the Pantheon to make ends meet. Not that he's complaining, she's a worthy successor.

    Zechs Merquise
Zechs Merquise, Great Herald of The Red Comet, Chief Mediator of the GUAE Mecha Cohort, Leader of the OZ Contingent and Commander-in-Chief of the Fourth Fleet (The Lightning Count, Rent-a-Char, Zechs Marquise, Prince Milliardo Peacecraft)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Zechs_Merquise_8334.jpg
Click here to see him mask-less
  • Intermediate God
  • Rank: OF-7 (Major General)
  • Symbol: His mask-helmet
  • Alignment: True Neutral
  • Reason for Joining: He's long been a staunch ally of Char ever since Full Frontal fell out of his favour for personal reasons. Char didn't want to give him too high of a rank, but his status as the holder of Char Clone was too important to ignore, so that's why he's here.
  • Loyalty to Char: Very High. While he dislikes war to a fault and feels he has betrayed his father's ideals, he believes that Char's philosophy of waging war but with close regard to civilian casualties is the right way the Cohort should follow.
  • Threat Level: High. He's long trained to be a relentless warrior and it shows. When the Gundam Epyon shows up, be afraid. Be very, very afraid...
  • Main Unit: OZ-13MS Gundam Epyon, OZ-00MS2 Tallgeese II (back-up)
  • Is one of the few lower-ranking officers whose status as an ascended deity gives him power over higher-ranking members. They aren't very happy about it but live with it since the GUAE Mastermind and the Court enforces this, not Char.
  • Due to his True Neutral status, Zechs Merquise is in charge of handling diplomacy between the GUAE Mecha Cohort and external bodies like the other Grand United Alliances. Gihren left Char free rein with this seeing as he doesn't care about diplomacy. Besides, nobody likes him. He usually deals with his sister, Relena Darlian, head diplomat of the GUAG Robot War Division.

    Rustal Elion
Rustal Elion, Patron Officer of Internal Reformists, Leader of the Gjallarhorn Contingent and Commander-in-Chief of the Fifth Fleet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rustal_elion_in_gjallarhorn_coat.png
  • Lesser Non-Ascendant
  • Rank: OF-9 (General), though as the head of the Arianrhod Fleet, he's addressed as 'Admiral'
  • Symbol: The Gjallarhorn logo
  • Alignment: Very hard to say, his tactics reek of Lawful Evil but his reformation of Gjallarhorn into a democracy has shades of Lawful Good, let's say Lawful Neutral.
  • Reason for Joining: Char was extremely impressed by him using Tekkadan as a way to restore order; staining the reputation what he saw as a dangerously unstable cadre of individuals and using them to justify creating a democracy to restore order and support from the people of Mars. Char also needed someone capable of combatting the Tekkadan remnants now in the Pantheon looking for blood courtesy of Mika and Orga.
  • Loyalty to Char: Medium. Char sought him out, so he'd better deliver on his promises to reinforce the new era of peace in the Post-Disaster world. And so long as the Cohort continues to supply his universe with Minovsky reactors, beam technology and the like to improve mobile weapon technologynote , he's loyal.
  • Threat Level: Very High. The Arianrhod Fleet (and the Sixth Fleet in general) is fiercely loyal to him for treating them well, especially those who've suffered at the hands of callous commanding officers. He still has Fantastic Racism towards the space rats of Mars, has no qualms about sacrificing officers if necessary for the greater good and works with millions of corrupt politicians and arms dealers throughout the Pantheon. Char isn't amused at this dubiousness though and has made it clear that Rustal limit (but not stop) resorting to such methods. If anything bad happens to the Cohort because of this, it's on him.
  • Famous for putting down a rebellion by former Demonic Legion prisoners by unleashing a Dáinsleif bombardment on them. Dark Specter has never forgiven the GUAE Mecha Cohort for this and maintains a personal vendetta against him.

    Kycilia Zabi
Kycilia Zabi, Patron Officer of Aristocratic Female Leaders, Head of Intelligence of the GUAE Mecha Cohort, Liaison to the Black Faction and Commander-in-Chief of the Sixth Fleet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1153852.jpg
  • Lesser Non-Ascendant
  • Rank: OF-8 (Vice Admiral), promoted from OF-7 (Rear Admiral)
  • Symbol: Her purple regalia and the Kycilia Agency logo. Alternatively, a unicorn
  • Alignment: Lawful Evil leaning towards Neutral Evil
  • Reason for Joining: Gihren killed her father just because he wanted the war to continue. She may have been a venomous, power-hungry person but even she knew better than to challenge her father. Hence, her siding with Char.
  • Loyalty to Char: Zilch. Understandable since her secret police tried for so long to assassinate Char and his sister to eliminate potential claimants to Deikun's legacy, not to mention that Char killed her with a bazooka shot to the face. This is an Enemy Mine, same with most of the Zabis. Only Garma hates Char more.
  • Threat Level: High. She doesn't pilot a mobile suit, but her retinue of allies and followers thanks to her massive Secret Police agency allows her to conduct mobile suit operations literally everywhere. Problem is, she's not ascended so that's a problem where Gihren surpasses her.
  • Main Unit: MAX-03 Adzam (for use in emergencies only)
  • Her fleet is usually led by Lt. Gen M'Quve, she most directly commands her task unit, the 45th Intelligence Unit, part of the Intelligence Task Force of the Fourth Fleet with special ops pilots piloting MS-11 Act Zakus.
  • She serves as the force's representative to the Black faction, she's not very happy about it.
