Tropes

  • Almost Kiss: Once again between Frank and Karen. Amy interrupts them before they can go through with it.
  • And This Is for...: As well as the bounty, O'Rourke cites a cousin that Frank killed, apparently part of the Irish gang he took on in Daredevil.
  • Bait-and-Switch: At first it looks like the Creepy Mortician wants something sexual from Karen in exchange for letting Madani examine the bodies of the three women. He does, but only because he has a harmless fetish for wearing women's shoes.
  • Brick Joke: Karen and Dinah get the autopsy report and viewing of the 3 women that Frank allegedly shot, but only after Creepy Ed learns he will get something from Karen that is never discussed in front of the audience. Attentive viewers may notice afterwards that Karen is walking around the hospital without shoes, and this is not explained until the next time Creepy Ed is shown (sporting Karen's high heel shoes).
  • The Bus Came Back: Karen appears for the first time in Season 2.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: O'Rourke, the Dirty Cop who tries to murder Frank and Amy, is later used as part of Karen and Madani's plan to break Frank out of the hospital using the cop's uniform.
  • Come to Gawk: Even the hospital staff can be seen peeking in at the notorious Punisher before someone pulls the curtain on them.
  • Continuity Nod: Karen is working as an investigator for Nelson and Murdock after the events of Daredevil season 3.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Krista Dumont's father was a Shell-Shocked Veteran who tried to kill himself and his daughter after his wife filed a divorce.
  • Death Seeker: Frank, broken by his apparent murder of three innocent women, doesn't even try fighting back when a corrupt cop tries to murder him.
  • Destination Defenestration: How Dr. Dumont injured her spine as a child.
  • Dirty Cop: One tries to murder Frank in the hospital, who is apparently related to one of the Kitchen Irish Frank massacred.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Billy looks a little disturbed by Krista being so nonchalant about the deaths of the three innocent women.
  • Evil Gloating: Billy rings up Madani on her mobile phone so he can gloat to Frank about how he put him in the same position he was in at the start of the season.
  • Frame-Up: Turns out Frank did not kill the 3 women - Billy did and then put them on stage for Frank to believe so.
  • Hero Antagonist: Mahoney once again, who foils Frank's escape plan and cuffs him in an ambulance, ready to drive him to his precinct in the final scene.
  • Hospital Hottie: Amy pretends to be a nurse, even though her name tag clearly states Physicians Assistant, and flirts with the police officer guarding Frank, even signaling she is going to give an Ass Shove to the next patient.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy
    • Billy makes sure that Krista is absolutely certain she wants to abandon her legitimate life to run off with him, before agreeing to do so.
    • Frank drops a hint that Karen should stay with Matt Murdock instead of throwing her life away to break him out of hospital. Karen in turn tries to convince Frank to start a new family instead of Loving a Shadow and seeking out a new war.
    • Averted with Pilgrim's Parental Substitute, whose only concern is that he's back on track for killing Frank and Amy, instead of returning home to comfort his children whose mother has just died.
  • Master of Disguise: Amy steals a hospital outfit and badge to get into Frank's room. When the cop on the door notes she looks rather young to be a nurse, she just acts like he's flirting with her.
  • Moral Myopia: Krista is unaffected by the women that Billy murdered because she didn't know them.
  • Murder-Suicide: Dr. Dumont's father jumped out of the window holding her, so that her mother would not have her.
  • Never Hurt an Innocent: Frank believes I Am a Monster after he apparently broke his code.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Frank says that Madani is just as lost and damaged as he is.
  • Psycho Psychologist: Dr. Dumont's scheme lead to the deaths of 3 women, because she wanted to see Russo happy.
  • Ship Tease: More Frank/Karen ship-tease, with even Amy noting it.
  • Swiss-Cheese Security: Given the elaborate precautions taken to guard Frank last time he was in a hospital, the lack of security really stands out here, though someone in the police administration might have been clearing the way for O'Rourke to kill Frank.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Curtis realizes how it feels to hold a dying man, after he was the one who shot him.
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: Noted by Billy now he believes he's defeated Frank.
  • You Are Too Late: Pilgrim's wife died before he was able to reunite with her.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: The reaction from all concerned when Karen, Amy, and then Madani show up one after the other to help Frank, who doesn't want to be rescued. Special mention is Frank's getting more annoyed with each apparition.
