Recap / The 7 DS 2 E 18 A Theres A Monkey In My Hat

Go To

Queen Delightful's parrot advisor Squire Peckington goes on vacation with Doc and Dopey. As a replacement, Dopey gets a monkey named Nanners to advise the Queen. This causes Hildy to pose as a monkey to advise the queen to make her queen of Jollywood.

This episode has the following tropes:

  • Accidental Dance Craze: More like "accidental fashion craze". After the villagers saw the queen having a monkey in her crown, the rest of the villagers (including the 7D) started to have monkeys in their hats.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: After getting Nanners' SOS message:
    Dopey: (whistles)
Doc: Jollywood ran out of bananas?
    Dopey: (whistles)
    Doc: Monkeys are running amok?
    Dopey: (whistles)
Doc: Hildy is in the queen's hat disguised as a monkey?!
  • Banana Peel: Grumpy slips on several peels while running from a horde of monkeys. The same thing happens with the Glooms.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Doc and Dopey come to the rest of the 7D's aid and brought a whole wad of bananas.
  • By "No", I Mean "Yes": "Yes. We have no bananas."
  • The Cameo: Jollywood Jane and Joe.
  • Check, Please!: Doc says it word-for-word after he and Dopey find out what's happening back in Jollywood.
  • Continuity Nod: This is the second time the 7D and Queen Delightful start a fad.
  • Delayed "Oh, Crap!"/Delayed Reaction: It takes a few seconds for Happy to realize that his monkey caught the remaining banana that the monkey horde was going after (since Grumpy inadvertently tossed it to him).
  • Description Cut: After Doc states that Nanners is fine back in Jollywood, the scene cuts back to him trapped in the crate.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Hildy claims she absolutely hates bananas. And she was forced to eat them to keep up the act.
  • Escaped Animal Rampage: All monkeys in Jollywood run rampant due to the banana shortage.
  • Force Feeding: She wasn't exactly force-fed but, Hildy forced herself to eat the thing she hates to keep up the act.
  • Funny Background Event: After Grumpy and the gorilla crashed into a resident's house (when she was about the take a shower), she is seen chasing them with a rolling pin.
  • Gilligan Cut: While figuring out a way to get the monkeys out of town, Happy suggests that they should climb a tree and act like a banana, leading to Grumpy saying that's the dumbest plan he's ever heard. Cut to the 5D leading the monkeys to a tree wearing banana suits.
  • Hammerspace Hair: Apparently, Grumpy stashes a banana in his beard for emergencies.
  • Hypocritical Humour: Grim asks who would follow anything an animal says, and then turns to ask his pet, Peaches who according to Grim agrees with him.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Non-clothing example. Apparently, Queen Delightful has a wardrobe, not for clothes, but for a bunch of thrones.
  • Lost Food Grievance: The monkeys absolutely LOSE IT when the Banana Cabana ran out of bananas.
  • Naked People Are Funny: The half-naked woman who Grumpy accidentally runs into chases him.
  • Not So Above It All: Grumpy and Starchbottom of all people, end up with monkeys (or in Grumpy's case, an ape) in their hats.
  • Oh, Crap!/This Is Gonna Suck: Grumpy has this reaction when he has the remaining banana and the monkey horde goes after him.
    Grumpy: This could get ugly...
  • Punny Name: As stated by Doc, Nanners (a monkey) only eats nanners.
  • Reactive Continuous Scream: This happens with the half-naked lady, Grumpy and the gorilla after the former crashes into the latter.
  • Rule of Three/Stock Footage: Nanners seen the crate the Glooms trapped him in are seen three times.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The Banana Cabana salesman immediately bolts out of the scene after the monkeys go crazy on the banana shortage.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The way the 7D make their entrance to the castle references the scene Tom Cruise slides into view in Risky Business.
      • The background music during this scene is also based on the Bob Seger song "Old Time Rock and Roll".
    • The Banana Cabana in Jollywood may be a reference to The Banana Cabana in Almost Naked Animals.
  • Stealth Pun: Grumpy says this after he and the 5D lead the monkeys out of town:
    Grumpy: We've officially gone bananas.
  • Stupidest Thing I've Ever Heard: What Grumpy says after Happy's plan to get the monkeys out of town was to climb a tree and act like a banana.
  • Title Drop: Happy's song, "There's a monkey in my hat".
  • Twin Switch: Not exactly twins, but Hildy disguise herself as a monkey (who looks similar to Nanners) to switch places with Nanners.
  • Visual Pun: All the monkeys in Jollywood "go monkey" after the banana shortage.
