Episode 3 - Stormy Weather - Tales of Aurore the Weather Girl

Chloé demands Tikki to transform her so she can go to Adrien's photoshoot, claiming that he needs her. Tikki replies by stating that (a) she doesn't think Adrien actually needs her and (b) she needs to recharge, and the chocolates Chloé gave her aren't what she needs. What she needs is cookies. In fact, to screw with Chloé, she demands cookies made by Tom Dupain and Sabine Cheng.

Marinette is babysitting Manon, Nadja Chamack's daughter, when an ad encouraging people to vote on the KIDZ+ weather girl comes up. Marinette comments on one of the contestants, Aurore (a girl that goes to the same collège as her but in a different class), and wonders if she should vote for her, only for Manon to ask if her sitter can introduce her to Mireille (the other contestant).

Chloé comes to the bakery and asks for several cookies, but her expression tells Sabine that something's wrong.

Manon manages to steal Marinette's phone and vote for Mireille. After Marinette recovers her phone, someone knocks on the door. It's Alya, who tells Marinette that Adrien is doing a photoshoot at a nearby park. When Marinette asks why that's important, Alya reveals that she thinks Marinette is crushing on Adrien, only for Marinette to deny it. However, with Manon's interest now piqued, Marinette agrees to take her to the park.

Adrien is posing for photos while his photographer, Vincent, does his best to encourage him to keep up his energy. When Marinette passes by, Adrien is completely delighted, much to Vincent's surprise.

The contest ends, and Mireille is the winner. As Mireille celebrates, Alec Cataldi (the KIDZ+ host) chooses to taunt Aurore about the wide margin of votes between her and Mireille, causing Mireille to silently beg Alec to shut up.

Vincent decides he needs someone else to join the photoshoot to make it look more energetic, and Adrien wonders if he'll be able to model with Marinette. When Vincent instead picks Alya, Adrien becomes completely depressed. After a sarcastic remark, Alya points to Marinette and reassures Adrien that the perfect girl is right there... only for Chloé to show up, pushing Marinette aside.

Hawk Moth uses a butterfly to turn Aurore into Stormy Weather, but not before agreeing with her on Mireille's lack of professional attire.

When Chloé states her intent to model with a discomfited Adrien, Vincent shuts down that idea, mocking the girl for wearing white pants to the park.

Outside the KIDZ+ studio, Stormy Weather shows up and mockingly encourages people who voted for Mireille to take cover, having imprisoned Mireille in a room covered with ice.

Adrien helps Marinette back to her feet, and Marinette asks why Adrien's bodyguard didn't intervene to stop Chloé. When he looks for the Gorilla, he finds him holding Manon over his shoulders.

After Vincent makes it clear that he will never choose Chloé as Adrien's partner for the photoshoot, he adds he wants to put Alya there instead, much to Chloé's anger. Vincent and Alya then get frozen by a recently arrived Stormy Weather.

Marinette faces Stormy Weather, who finally realizes that maybe coming to the park just to find balloons for the contest was unnecessary. She then asks Marinette whom she voted for in the contest. While Marinette replies that she voted for Aurore, Manon states she voted for Mireille, causing Stormy Weather to encase Manon and Adrien's bodyguard in ice. Marinette stays with Manon to keep her from panicking as Adrien goes to get help (which consists of him transforming into Chat Noir).

Meanwhile, Tikki tells Chloé she needs to transform and stop Stormy Weather, to which Chloé surprisingly agrees. Tikki believes it's a sign that Chloé is not as bad as she thought... but Chloé soon disproves that idea when she states she's only doing it because Stormy Weather ruined her "date" with Adrien.

Chat Noir sarcastically greets Scarlet Lady before the latter attempts to launch her yo-yo to hit Stormy Weather... only to epically fail when the yo-yo lands barely a meter away at Chat Noir's feet, causing him to nearly crack up laughing. Both heroes try to rush Stormy Weather, but she makes quick work of them by sending Chat Noir into a tree top and Scarlet Lady into a fountain.

Stormy Weather finds a balloon seller at the park and demands to know where her balloons are; the contest only ended, so there should be merchandise for both herself and Mireille. The seller replies they were told to only make merchandise for Mireille, prompting Stormy Weather to go have a "talk" with the KIDZ+ producers.

Chat Noir shakes off the leaves as Marinette tells him that Stormy Weather went back to the studio. When Marinette gives Chat Noir an idea about keeping the akuma "grounded," he compliments her and kisses her hand, much to Marinette's delight—before a drenched Scarlet Lady kills the moment.

Alec is speaking on the phone, revealing that he rigged the contest results in Mireille's favor, only for Stormy Weather to begin singing a lullaby. Realizing he's in trouble, Alec attempts to escape, but Stormy Weather quickly catches up to him and freezes him.

Chat Noir and Scarlet Lady arrive at the studio, only for Stormy Weather to turn off the lights and leave them in the dark. Chat Noir is able to track the akuma with his night vision, but his attempt to leave Scarlet Lady behind fails, as she manages to grab him before he escapes. As he guides Scarlet Lady through the darkness, Chat Noir finds a frozen Alec, wondering why he feels so satisfied seeing the host in such a state.

Back at the park, Marinette can only wait for the heroes to solve the problem, not noticing that Master Fu is observing her while hiding, possibly pondering if he should approach her. However, when she explodes out of impatience and a desire to help Chat Noir, he decides to hold off on it for now.

Chat Noir and Scarlet Lady follow Stormy Weather to another studio, where Scarlet Lady calls her Lucky Charm—a towel. She proclaims that it's perfect, surprising Chat Noir that she actually has a plan this time... which consists of using the towel to dry out her still dripping hair. Deciding to act, Chat Noir grabs Scarlet Lady's yo-yo and uses it to ensnare Stormy Weather, causing her to fall and lose her umbrella, her akumatized object. Chat Noir's punning is not appreciated by the akuma.

When Scarlet Lady casts Miraculous Ladybug, all the frozen people are restored to normal, although still cold. Adrien arrives back at the park, followed shortly by Chloé, who insists on being the one to model with Adrien in the photoshoot. Adrien's bodyguard silently takes her away while gently pushing Marinette forward, much to Adrien's delight and Marinette's confusion.

Aurore, now deakumatized, goes to Mireille's dressing room to apologize for attacking her as Stormy Weather, only for Mireille to beg her to become the weather girl instead. As Mireille explains, she only joined the contest to push herself out of her comfort zone and didn't really care about winning. She also states that she posted on social media that Alec had rigged the contest in her favor.

In the end, Aurore and Mireille introduce each other as co-weather girls on the program.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Not only did Alec Cataldi rig the contest so that Mireille would win, he taunts Aurore, making a point of emphasizing just how much of a landslide she supposedly lost by.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Adrien's bodyguard to Marinette after Stormy Weather is deakumatized.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Played for Laughs when Marinette asks Aurore what she's doing at the park. Stormy Weather finds she can't actually think of a good reason why; though she came to attack the carts toting weather girl merchandise, she notes that, "it's just balloons."
  • Armor-Piercing Response: When Stormy Weather threatens one of the KIDZ+ employees who'd been hawking Mireille balloons in the park and asks why he isn't also selling her balloons, his terrified response causes her to freeze as the implications sink in:
Stormy Weather: And where are MY balloons?! The contest only just ended!
KIDZ+ Employee: T-they just told us to make Mireille merch! I-I don't know why!
[silence as Stormy Weather stares at him]
Stormy Weather: [kicking the cart away] Hawk Moth, I need to have a chat with the producers real quick.
  • Ask a Stupid Question...: After everything with Stormy Weather is resolved, Chloé still tries to force her way into the modeling session, demanding, "who else could possibly match Adrien like ME?" His bodyguard promptly plucks her up and moves her aside before replacing her with Marinette.
  • Asshole Victim: Alec; this is even Lampshaded by Chat Noir, who spares his frozen figure a glance as he and Scarlet Lady are racing past and wonders, "...Why do I feel so satisfied looking at this?" even though he didn't know that Alec had rigged the contest.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Alec rigged the weather girl contest in order to engineer one of these, assuming it would bring nothing but good press for the station.
    • Stormy Weather effortlessly defeats Chat Noir and Scarlet Lady during their first attempt at taking her down.
  • Didn't Think This Through: One might give Alec some slack: while he apparently forgot about Hawk Moth, it's still early enough in the supervillain's reign of terror that he might not grasp the fact that he targets and empowers people feeling strong negative emotions. But when rigging the contest, Alec told those producing merchandise to not even bother making anything representing Aurore, never considering that anyone might find that suspicious.
  • Disappointed by the Motive: When Chloé expresses a surprising eagerness to take on Stormy Weather, Tikki thinks that her holder might actually be prioritizing the safety of others for once. She can only sigh in disgust upon hearing that she's just sore over the akuma ruining her "date" with Adrien.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After dealing with both Chloé and Scarlet Lady being Spoiled Brats and the strongest akuma they've faced yet, Adrien gets to have the photoshoot he wanted with Marinette.
  • Epic Fail: When Scarlet Lady tries to toss her yo-yo at Stormy Weather, it lands not even a metre from her. Chat Noir nearly cracks up laughing.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Downplayed. While Stormy Weather traps Manon in ice, she only puts a dome of ice around her and the Gorilla rather than freezing her like she did Alya and Vincent.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Due to being preoccupied with comforting Manon after the little girl got trapped in ice, Marinette doesn't see Adrien ducking behind a park bench to transform.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Manon's focus on the idea that Marinette knows Mireille when her sitter only mentioned Aurore by name hints at whom the little girl voted for... something she later proudly reveals to Stormy Weather.
    • While denying her crush on Adrien, Marinette notes that he's cute and stood up to Chloé; two arrows then label Alya as "Gorgeous" and "Stood up to Chloé." The photographer initially picks Alya over Marinette as his preferred modeling partner for Adrien.
  • Gentle Giant: Adrien's bodyguard lets Manon clamber all over him, cracking a small smile when she declares "I'm tall now!" as she's perched on his shoulders.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Mireille only joined the weather girl contest as a way of straying outside her usual comfort zone. She didn't actually expect to win, which leads to her opponent being akumatized over losing and trapping Mireille in a room covered in ice. She's also just as angry as Aurore was to learn that the whole thing had been rigged.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: By rigging the contest, then taunting Aurore about being curb-stomped, Alec unintentionally helped create Stormy Weather, which led to the truth being exposed and the network having to deal with the scandal he created.
  • Imagine Spot: Adrien briefly fantasizes about modeling with Marinette, only to regard Alya with open disappointment when the photographer picks her instead.
  • Ironic Nursery Tune: Sung by Stormy Weather as she tracks Alec down:
Stormy Weather: It's raining. It's pouring. The old man is snoring. He went to bed and bumped his head. [appearing before Alec with a Nightmare Face] and he didn't get up in the morning.
  • It's Personal: Chloé develops a grudge against Stormy Weather for ruining her "date" with Adrien.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Subverted; Tikki briefly thinks Chloé might be capable of selfless actions after all when she's eager to transform for once... right before Chloé reveals why she's so driven this time (she's mad the akuma ruined her "date" with Adrien).
  • Kick the Dog: Alec secretly rigged the vote against Aurore, then jeers at her about how she lost "by, like, half a million votes? Or was it a million votes?"
  • Mundane Utility: Scarlet Lady uses the towel she summoned with Lucky Charm to dry off her hair.
  • Pajama-Clad Hero: Downplayed; Mireille showed up to the KIDZ+ weather girl contest wearing a pajama top, which Aurore cites as evidence of her unprofessional behavior. Mireille later helps fix the situation by publicly exposing how Alec rigged the votes.
  • Picky Eater: Tikki acts like one in order to screw with Chloé, refusing to eat the chocolates she got her and insisting she'll only accept chocolate chip cookies made by Tom Dupain and Sabine Cheng.
  • Playful Cat Smile: Alya has a sneaky one that she partially hides behind one hand when Adrien first spots her, Manon, and Marinette at the park. She also sports one when pointing out Marinette to Adrien, suggesting that she'd be a better pick to model with him.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Lampshaded by the tags on the strip where Manon proudly announces to Stormy Weather that she voted for Mireille: "I guess a lack of self-preservation runs in the family."
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • Alya is eager to help Marinette hook up with her crush, even as Marinette denies being that interested in Adrien.
    • Adrien's bodyguard sets things up so that Marinette is the one who get partnered with Adrien for the photoshoot and gives his charge a thumbs up.
  • Shrinking Violet: Downplayed with Mireille; Marinette notes that she tends towards introversion, and one of Aurore's complaints is that her opponent has trouble facing the cameras.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • When Marinette asks Stormy Weather why she's at the park, Stormy Weather herself pauses and wonders why she bothered, noting that, "It's just balloons."
    • Chloé's eager to transform and deal with Stormy Weather... because the akuma interrupted her "date" with Adrien.
    • Scarlet Lady is delighted when her Lucky Charm gives her a towel, which she uses to dry off her hair while Chat Noir deals with Stormy Weather solo.
  • Sweet and Sour Grapes: Aurore apologizes to Mireille for letting herself get akumatized, saying that she shouldn't have been such a Sore Loser and should instead have just accepted her defeat with grace. Mireille then begs her to become the new weather girl, revealing Alec's machinations; the two end up as co-hosts.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Tikki insists on only getting her chocolate fix through cookies, specifically cookies from Tom Dupain and Sabine Cheng's bakery.
  • Twitchy Eye: Aurore develops one when Alec mocks the severity of her loss.
  • What You Are in the Dark; When Mireille discovers what Alec had done, she quickly posts the news on social media, because she (a) doesn't particularly care about being the new weather girl and (b) is really incensed about the contest being rigged.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Stormy Weather doesn't even hesitate to aim her Parasol of Pain at Manon the moment the young girl reveals she voted for Mireille.
  • You Have No Idea Who You're Dealing With: When the photographer turns Chloé away, she angrily demands, "Do you know who you're talking to?!" His response?
Photographer: [with a dismissive once-over] An idiot who wears white pants to the park?
