A-Ji and C-Ro's War Against Their Gorgeous Daily Lives (Mobyama Aji to Mobtani Crou no Kareinaru Nichijou e no Chousen) is a one-shot manga created by Azuma Kaya. It parodies the Yaoi Genre five ways to Sunday.

The first one-shot of the same name was released Reijin's 2016 May issue which later spawned a sequel called Ayanokouji Erika's Gorgeous Comeback To The BL Writer's Scene in Reijin's 2017 March issue. Both one-shots were published in an anthology alongside Azuma's other works.

Contains the following tropes:

  • Accidental Hand-Hold: During their study session in their attempt to become the "model student" archetype, A-Ji and C-Ro's hands brushed one another when the former reaches an eraser, causing hearts to appear when they look into their eyes. After some confusion, A-Ji lampshades the moment as some sort of Foreshadowing.
  • Ambiguously Gay: The exact relationship between A-Ji and C-Ro becomes hazy to define, either being a romantic couple or best friends with benefits by the end of the sequel. Both don't show any interest in girls as their first thought in losing their virginity and therefore not being extras anymore was having sex with each other instead of finding girlfriends. However, they also have no prior interest in men either but were desperate at the time though the two do awaken newfound feelings for each other which weren't elaborated on.
  • Art Shift: The plain-looking A-ji and C-Ro are drawn with greater detail and more Bishōnen when having sex but immediately go back to their usual selves once they stopped.
  • Beady-Eyed Loser: A-Ji has squinty eyes while C-Ro is slit-eyed with no sclera with both having black dots for pupils, further emphasising their averageness and roles as background characters.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: A-Ji and C-Ro wanted to stand out from being extras in any capacity no matter what, which eventually escalated into having passionate sex with each other. While a few people finally begin to notice them, it left such an enormous elephant in the room between the two that it redefines their relationship which took years to resolve.
  • Becoming the Mask: At first A-Ji and C-Ro only had sex with each other so they won't classify as background characters anymore but it had gotten so intense that they ended up thoroughly embarrassed and awakened new feelings they've never experienced before. By the time of the sequel, the two ended up falling in love and became a couple (or at the very least friends with benefits) even though their status as extras barely changed.
  • Bickering Couple, Peaceful Couple: Akira and Ren are the Bickering Couple to A-Ji and C-Ro's Peaceful Couple with the former pair having to go through unnecessary, over-the-top drama including a Bisexual Love Triangle and clashing personalities to get together and the latter pair having a more natural and reserved relationship due to how in-sync they are.
  • Birds of a Feather: A-Ji and C-Ro hit it off right away when they both realise they are background characters in someone else's story and have nearly identical personalities on top of that.
  • Bookends: The story began with A-Ji and C-Ro wanting to be free from their roles as mobs and the sequel ends with them reading their own manga who find it absurd how two mobs can be protagonists.
  • Clothing Damage: The moment Erika leaves after implementing the idea of sex, Akira immediately and violently rips Ren's turtleneck to reveal his pecs and have his way with him. Ren doesn't mind it however as he wants to be ravaged by a now-assertive and thirsty Akira.
  • Demoted to Extra: A-Ji and C-Ro are not the main characters in the sequel this time around and play the background characters to Erika's story. Pretty ironic considering they spent the entirety of the original one-shot escaping their fates as such.
  • Did You Just Have Sex?: As an avid Yaoi Fangirl, Tantoko immediately figured out A-Ji and C-Ro did the deed the other day from the brief yet awkward conversation they had.
    C-Ro: "M- Mornin' A-Ji..." [Nervous]
A-Ji: "H- Hey. Mornin C-Ro..." [Equally as Nervous]
Tantoko: "Oh...?" [Stares at them suspiciously]
C-Ro: "So...do we have gym today?"
    A-Ji: "Oh. Uh...yeah. It's 3rd period..."
Tantoko: [Whispers] "Hey, have those two always been in our class?"
  • Disappeared Dad: C-Ro seems to not have a father given his mother and sister are only introduced. It is very likely he never had one in the first place as it wasn't important for a background character.
  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences: A-Ji and C-Ro became friends when sharing the same sentiment with the trope to show how in sync they are. Pretty impressive considering A-Ji was inner monologuing but C-Ro somehow manage to complete his sentence aloud.
A-Ji: [Thinking] My youth... My youth is going to...
C-Ro: "My youth is going to end with me as an extra?"
  • First-Name Basis: A-Ji and C-Ro go by their first names to slightly distinguish themselves from their similar last names (Mobuyama and Mobutani). Akira and Ren follow this as well when they get together.
  • Foreshadowing: Akira briefly has a devilish smug face for one panel after defeating Erika and making Ren his. The sequel shows he is a lot more assertive than he lets on when forcefully rips off Ren's turtleneck to have his way with him.
  • Gaydar: Tanko has a pretty good Gaydar by being able to figure out the title characters had sex the other day from a single awkward conversation. This was beaten by Erika in the sequel whose kicks into overdrive upon sensing the presence of the ultimate Uke (C-Ro) and Seme (A-Ji) in her vicinity but cannot pinpoint where it's coming from.
  • Greek Chorus: Played straight and parodied. There is the trio of girls who fangirl and gossip over Akira and Ren's developing relationship, are drawn with more detail to the other extras and generally act as the audience to their love story. Meanwhile, the actual focus is A-ji and C-Ro who are the greek chorus themselves to the story as a whole, commenting on the wacky events and even wackier characters surrounding them including the girls.
  • Hereditary Hairstyle: C-Ro and U-Mi inherited their bowler cuts with "M"-shaped parting on the side from their mother K-Ko.
  • Innocently Insensitive: C-Ro's mother, Keiko "K-Ko" Mobutani, means well and tries being supportive towards her son but she's oblivious that her words of encouragement struck a nerve within C-Ro.
K-Ko: "Welcome home, C-ro. How'd your tests go?"
    C-Ro: "Average. Just as always."
K-Ko: "Good for you. There's nothing better than normal."
C-Ro: [Comment pierces through him] "Guh! A mother's kindness..."
  • Irony: A-ji and C-Ro spent the entire one-shot determined to not be extras and had succeeded through extreme measures, only to be Demoted to Extra in the sequel regardless as the perspective shifts from them to Erika.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • A-ji and C-Ro have the surnames of "Mobuyama" and "Mobutani" with "Mobu-" as in "mob" while "-yama" and "-tani" are common Japanese surname suffixes. This highlights their status as unimportant background characters and how like-minded they are.
    • Saotome Ren is a clear-cut Punny Name to "Otome Ren-Ai" meaning "Romance Game" (What he and Akira are emulating with their soap-operatic relationship).
    • Nikaidou Akira is a play on the proverb "Nikai Kara Megusuri" which means being roundabout or indirect to the point of being ineffective. He never made his feelings clear to Ren right until Erika came into the picture and told him outright.
  • Perspective Flip:
    • The first one-shot is told from the point of two background characters in a BL romance who completely ignore the unfolding drama and developing romance between the leads for more pressing issues of breaking out from their roles as extras.
    • The sequel then switches from the aforementioned extras to one of the leads' ex-fiance who had developed a passion and became a mangaka for Yaoi. The plot has her looking for inspiration for her next big BL hit.
  • Repetitive Name: The tall blonde from the Yaoi Fangirl trio is revealed to be Tanto Tantoko in the sequel.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: C-Ro and his sister U-Mi got his slit eyes, hairstyle and overall average looks from their mother K-Ko as if they came from the same photocopy machine.
  • Theme Naming: There are two Aerith and Bob naming schemes to distinguish between background characters (A-Ji, C-Ro, K-Ko, U-Mi) and protagonists (Nikaidou Akira, Saotome Ren, Ayanokouji Erika).
  • Time Skip: The cast age up from high school students to working adults in the sequel.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: A-Ji and C-Rou's plotline of becoming more than background characters never intersects with Akira, Ren and Erika's Bisexual Love Triangle at any point in the one-shot. The two plotlines resolve neatly by themselves without the characters ever interacting directly.
