Previews: Trailer

Ain't no tropes for the wicked…

  • Adaptation Amalgamation: The story losely follows the plot of the first game but features characters and scenarios from later games, most notably featuring Tiny Tina and Kreig from Borderlands 2 as part of the main cast.
  • Advertising by Association: The trailer boasts that the film is from the producer of the Spider-Man films, Venom, and Uncharted.
  • And Starring: The trailer gives the “and” credit to Jamie Lee Curtis.
  • Death World: Pandora is as much a living hell as it is in the games. In the trailer, Lilith describes it as the weirdest, most dangerous dumpster fire of a world in the universe, accompanied by shots of bandits, a man on fire, and a skag being caught by one of the various flying beasties from the game.
  • Multiple Gunshot Death: Subverted. At one point in the trailer, poor Claptrap is shot up by a room full of bad guys, but by the end of the trailer, he’s fine and expelling the bullets like poop.
  • Repurposed Pop Song: The song “Do Ya” by Electric Light Orchestra serves as the backdrop for the trailer.
  • Toilet Humor: The trailer ends on a scene of Claptrap expelling the bullets he was just shot with… through what would be his butt.
