    General

  • Ambiguous Situation: There is a lot of intentional ambiguity around many of the characters, especially Ardbeg and Bacardi, seeing as despite being main characters, their ages were notably not revealed when jo_sipu revealed the other character's approximate ages, and their alternate/ potentially real-world variants are shadowy and unclear, with Ardbeg's being a Freeze-Frame Bonus. There is a lot of mystery surrounding Ardbeg and Balvenie's relationship. The two are frequently shown together, with Ardbeg occasionally turning into Balvenie...or at least a variation of her. The two also share the same birthday, and it should be noted that we have not seen a real-world version of Ardbeg yet, and in the Character Introduction, which shows mostly everyone's real-world form, Ardbeg glitches into a person (most likely Balvenie) with long pink hair and head bandages similar to his who is only seen from the back, much like how Balvenie flashes into Ardbeg in “Pick A Flower”. Several depictions of Balvenie resemble this, however. There are also many theories that the two are twins, which has been teased at in “Hansel and Gretel” and “Alice of Human Sacrifice”, but is not canon as of current. Another mysterious character is Rosé de Blanche. She has multiple different appearances in the series— appearing with black hair in her original trilogy of videos and in the “Character Creator” video (notably, only her hair option is black, whereas Rosé herself has bluish-purple hair when she briefly appears later), purple hair in the remainder of the series, and a white-haired variant of herself that strongly resembles Balvenie. While the black hair to purple hair switch may be purely aesthetic, considering her original videos having only a black, white and red color scheme, the white hair makes her look like an entirely different character. She also appears with white hair in The Red Shoes. Balvenie herself also has some ambiguity surrounding her- namely her identity in the real world and what is happening during the course of the videos. There are several hints that Balvenie may be some kind of idol, which “Candle Queen”, “Doctor”, “Choke”, “Melody” and brief flashes in “Greedy”, “Smile” and “Will Tennis” imply, but nothing has been confirmed yet. There are also hints that she may be hospitalized, which seems especially prevalent in Happy Birthday Balvenie.

  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: Notably, despite the gory content and disturbing themes in all of Jo_Sipu's content, there is very pointedly no real swearing on her channel, as all of the swearing is censored out...which is weirdly adorable, especially if you consider that potentially, this could just mean that Balvenie is just censoring out or ignoring all the swearing, since it is her dreamworld, after all...

  • Theme Naming: All of the characters are named after alcohol— Ardbeg and Balvenie are kinds of scotch known for its heavy and smooth sweetness, especially accounting for their 18 year bottles. Bacardi is a brand of strong rum. Rosé is a type of wine, specifically White Rose brand (Interestingly, she shares a name with the protagonist of the novel Rose Blanche, although the two seem unrelated). Agave is an ingredient used in Agave spirits, most commonly tequila. Tineballan's name is a switch variation of Ballantine scotch.

    Balvenie

Balvenie is the god of this world.

A bubbly, pink-loving, cleaver wielding rabbit princess hiding some dark secrets in her candy-coated wonderland.

  • A Birthday, Not a Break: In the game Happy Birthday Balvenie, she has to resurrect Tineballan three times (that we know of), exsanguinate Ardbeg, deal with a horde of zombies, and be forced to accept Tineballan's death and her life and reality outside of the dreamworld....all on her birthday.
  • Above the Gods: Sort of. Balvenie has the ability to bring Tineballan Back from the Dead in her dreamworld, and is described as "The god of this world" several times in Happy Birthday Balvenie.
  • Act of True Love: Balvenie's constant resurrection of Tineballan is out of love (much to Tineballan’s chagrin), and she seems to be unable to accept Tineballan's death in the real world.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Bad girl, in Balvenie case with Tineballan. It’s also possible she has a similar infatuation with Ardbeg, if you take Balvenie and Ardbeg being the same person to be the case.
  • Animal Lover: Balvenie is the rabbit princess of a kingdom of rabbits, and seems to be very fond of rabbits... for the most part.
  • Bath Suicide: Balvenie finds Tineballan's dead body in the bath in Happy Birthday Balvenie.

  • Break the Cutie: Seemingly the entire plot of Happy Birthday Balvenie. Several upsetting events happen to Balvenie during the course of the game, which she mostly handles with her typical cheerful nonchalance, but she seems noticeably withdrawn and upset during the real world segments. [[spoiler: However, this is taken to an extreme when Balvenie is forced to relive the memory of Tineballan's suicide, which causes her to grow so upset she harms herself in an attempt to revive Tineballan by feeding her her blood, with Balvenie hopelessly pleading for Tineballan not to die. She is presumably hospitalized, if the hospital gown she wears in the secret ending has any indication. Despite the lines only being text, the clear desperation in her voice is obvious. This is made even worse by this scene ending Balvenie's portion of the game, meaning we have to imagine her reaction to being forced to remember this on her birthday.

  • What Could Possibly Go Wrong?: In Happy Birthday Balvenie, the line Balvenie has when interacting with her bed is "It's my birthday! What could go wrong?” As we learn soon, pretty much everything.

    Tineballan

Don’t you just hate it when your crush won’t stop dying?

The girl Balvenie loves.... to the point where she keeps resurrecting her, no matter the cost.

    Ardbeg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/051ff984_82d3_47ee_8445_2a8d73b1b980.jpeg
Me-owch!

An upbeat, peppy young man with an alarming amount of bandages, and a strange connection to Balvenie.

  • A Birthday, Not a Break: Ardbeg's birthday also happens in Happy Birthday Balvenie, as he and Balvenie share a birthday. On Ardbeg's birthday, he is injured by Balvenie, potentially drugged and then mauled by Bacardi....and is also subjected to a disturbing, vaguely yandere speech by Bacardi...but, hey, at least he gets a birthday cake made of organs!
  • Afraid of Blood: Potentially, as "Wound" is listed on Ardbeg's dislikes in the Character Introductions

  • Body Horror: While Happy Birthday Balvenie gives us an explanation for the bandages on Balvenie's arms, we haven't been given one for Ardbeg's as of yet. His, notably, extend all the way to his hands, whereas Balvenie's stop at her wrists. Ardbeg also has mysterious head bandages, which we also don't have an explanation for yet. Couple that with his interactions with Bacardi, and Ardbeg is probably the character with the most body horror in the whole series. ...And that's saying something.

  • Stepford Smiler: Ardbeg often has a cheerful smile on his face, even when being drugged and bit by Bacardi, which is even mentioned in the Smile video.

    Rosé De Blanche

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c99e0fcf_1dd8_44cb_8b66_cb33fb4e3d9d.jpeg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/240ed3c6_a669_425b_9558_e215ab2b19f8.jpeg

An insecure, vindictive young woman with an odd resemblance to Balvenie in the dreamworld, and a marked interest in cannibalism...

  • Abusive Parents: Implied. In Snow White (Dark version), we see hints, with an odd shot of a child Rosé being force-fed butterflies and future physical and sexual abuse by her father. There are also theories that Rosé's father forced her to look like Balvenie, though there is no canon proof of this.
  • Alpha Bitch: In the real world, Rosé seems to be this— she seems to be a popular girl, and is unkind to both Balvenie and Tineballan.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Rosé in the real world is this to Balvenie, as she acts like her friend, but secretly abuses her as shown in the Choke video, even going so far as trying to seriously injure her by giving her chocolate with a needle inside... as a present for her birthday in Happy Birthday Balvenie. She seems to have this same relationship with Agave in “How to kill tamagotchi”.

  • Deliberately Monochrome: The first three videos Rosé appears in (Corpse Dance, The Red Shoes, and Snow White: Dark version) are all done with a black, white and red color scheme, which is unique to this set of videos. A later video, Pink Elephant also has this artstyle associated with her.

  • I'm a Humanitarian: Possibly. Corpse Dance seems to imply this.

  • Meaningful Name: Rosé wine is known to pair well with red meat.

  • No Full Name Given: Inverted, Rosé is the only character to be given a last name.

  • Tampering with Food and Drink: In Happy Birthday Balvenie, Rosé attempts to give Balvenie chocolate with a needle inside as a birthday present, telling her to eat it in front of her and being clearly upset when Tineballan appears and foils her plan.

    Bacardi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b605338d_d559_4fe3_a13d_fd24573f3c0e.jpeg

A very, very strange man with an odd personality and mannerism.... and a disturbing, possessive love for Ardbeg, despite him constantly hurting the latter.

  • Ambiguously Bi: Potentially, as he is shown to maybe be in a relationship with Ardbeg, but is implied to potentially have/ have had a relationship of some kind with Rose and maybe Balvenie, especially if the theories of her and Ardbeg being the same person turn out to be true.

  • Body Horror: With his mask off, Bacardi is shown to have slits extending from his mouth (with what appears to be visible tissue underneath the slits), reminiscent of the mythical Kuchisake-Onna. He also mutilates and eats from Ardbeg every chance he gets.

  • Precision F-Strike: While Bacardi does swear occasionally, its usually all censored like the other swearing on the channel....except for Magical Operation #3, where he has a very clearly written out "Fuck". What makes this hilarious is that this is the only instance of uncensored swearing on the ENTIRE CHANNEL, with Jo_Sipu using songs without any swearing and even cutting out the part of The Distortionist that swears....which makes this one particular instance incredibly funny.

  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Bacardi is shown with flashing ominous red eyes several times, noticeably only when he takes his mask off. Judging by what usually comes after him taking off his mask, it seems that the red eyes are possibly caused by bloodlust.

    Agave

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8bb9c36f_4430_46a4_928a_2d045596701a.jpeg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c9ecc1b5_1cbc_487e_b07a_e13233b5d982.jpeg

Tineballan's hard-drinking younger sister, the two have a rocky relationship with each other.

  • Adoptive Peer Parent: Sort of, with Rosé. The two have a complicated relationship, as Rosé acts like a motherly figure towards Agave, especially in the video How To Kill Tamagotchi, but they are also shown to have a potentially psuedo-romantic relationship as well in Corpse Dance, Animal Cannibal, and The Distortionist.
  • Cain and Abel: She doesn’t like her older sister, Tineballan. Defied in Baby Sister, when Tineballan considers stabbing Agave in her sleep before stopping herself halfway.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Is this, most prominently in The Distortionist”. Of the four things she likes in her Character Introduction, three are alcohol, cigarettes, and money.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Is shown holding what is implied to be a positive pregnancy test in Alice of Human Sacrifice and wearing a high school uniform in Wonderland (see above image), The Distortionist, and FORGET.
