    Fuzz the Cat
Isn't nostalgia just the worst? You get these warm and fuzzy feelings inside for a bygone era that'll slowly fade and crumble into nothingness as you realize that the good times are behind you! You can't go back! ... But what if... you could turn back the clock just a little bit? What if you could... change a thing or two? "Oh, well, Fuzz! Wouldn't that alter the present as well?" That's exactly the point!

The mascot of the June Archives. A talking cat Flipnote, he helps the human interns find and archive the various lost Flipnotes. But he quickly shows off a sinister side and has blatant hidden motives...

  • Adaptational Dye-Job: In the original 2013 animations made by Cerealbowlby (known as Jzork back then), Fuzz had white fur and blue eyes. In the June Archive, he has grey fur with white eyes.
  • Adorable Abomination: He's a small bipedal cat with cute big eyes and ears, who is somehow capable of creating a giant cat clock that can access another realm and forcibly transport residents away, and is heavily implied to be a memory virus, a parasitic organism that can attach itself in the minds of others and manifest in reality if enough people think about it, `and somehow can use Time Travel to etch himself into Flipnotes he wasn't in.
  • Cats Are Mean: A cat Flipnote who is a creepy, malevolent memory virus that traps Flipnote characters in a Fate Worse than Death.
  • Establishing Character Moment: "Archive Announcement #1" introduces him as a friendly mascot who wants to archive the Flipnotes and thanks his viewers for their support. Then at the seeming end of the video, he reveals himself as a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing when he whips out his Slasher Smile and shows ominous, cryptic text to the viewer asking to help him find "something" in the archives.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He typically speaks in a friendly tone and offers "help" to the Archivist. However he tries to target said Archivist in a moment of weakness by offering a We Can Rule Together deal, and then when he gets rejected he straight up tries to force the deal through the use of the cat clock.
  • Glory Days: He views the days when Flipnote Hatena was active as this, and is archiving Flipnotes as a means of reclaiming those days. And it becomes clear he is not satisfied with just that, but that he actively wants to change the past.
  • Immortality Seeker: He very much does not want himself or his fellow Flipnotes to become just a memory of long gone Glory Days, and is archiving them as part of a plan to travel in time and etch himself into the memories of as many people as he can, becoming immortal in a sense.
  • Mascot Villain: Fuzz the Cat serves as the mascot for the June Archive and Restoration Project, chiming in with announcements in a couple of videos. However, it soon becomes clear something isn't right about Fuzz, especially with the Butterfly of Doom effect he was planning on creating, effectively making him the cause of all the mess in-universe.
  • Mind Virus: Heavily implied to be his true nature. An unlisted video instructs the viewer on how to protect yourself from memory viruses, and that if measures are not taken one can manifest itself in the real world. Fuzz himself is shown in some secret images to somehow be in Flipnote screenshots dating far before his creation, indicating he is using the project as a means to spread himself.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Seems to be primarily trapped in Flipnotes Hatena. The hidden video about mind viruses mentions that they can manifest in reality if enough people know about it, no longer just becoming a concept or idea, which has implications for Fuzz's endgoals and why he is managing the channel despite thinking Flipnotes themselves are stupid.
  • Slasher Smile: His introductory video has him with one for the second half to establish his malevolent nature.
  • Time Master: Has limited time powers due to the Cat Clock. One of his goals seems to be increasing this power by spreading himself as a Mind Virus.
  • We Can Rule Together: Tries to make such a deal with the Archivist. The Archivist, clearly seeing it as a Deal with the Devil, rejects it, leading to Fuzz having a minor Villinous Breakdown.

    The Shadow
Memory is the key to reality... If it burns down and no-one remembers it was there, it's almost as if... there was nothing there to begin with.

A mysterious shadowy figure who appears in various videos. He seems to have knowledge of the situation and shows up to speak to various Flipnote characters.

  • Ambiguously Evil: He seems to want to help the Flipnotes in some way by telling them of the situation and almost never directly antagonizes them, but in one video he is seen jumping atop a car of three people and unsheathing his sword, implying he's about to kill them for some unknown reason.
  • Shadowed Face, Glowing Eyes: His entire body is shadow-like save for his two glowing white eyes to make him even more mysterious.

    The Cat Clock
"Transfer initiated."

A giant clock resembling a cat that hovers over Hatena City, vaporizing and "transferring" anyone it can.

  • Artifact of Doom: The cat clock, which seems to be responsible for the disappearances of the many flipnotes. It isn't until the ninth uploaded video that we see exactly how it does this.
  • Clockwork Creature: It has a clock for a body with moving hands.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: When the cat clock talks during the ninth and tenth videos, it does so in an ominous robotic voice as it announces its "temporal relocation" progress.
  • Robo Speak: It only speaks in short sentence fragments when carrying out it's operations like a machine reporting to it's creator what it is doing.
  • Time Machine: Its powers seem to be tied into time manipulation. It is outright called a time machine by Fuzz later on.

    The Archivist
"Ignoring the present won't bring back the past...It's tempting to imagine nothing has changed...to remain asleep...But you need to wake up. This dream has to end."
A young man who formerly made Flipnotes as a kid and seems to be currently managing the Archive project. Unfortunately for them, Fuzz has targeted them as part of his machinations.
  • Eye Scream: Rips out his red eye in order to stop from being forcibly assimilated by the Cat Clock.
  • The Insomniac: His arc begins with him waking up, being unable to sleep.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: Implied to have been in one to steadily break him down and make him more able to be manipulated by Fuzz.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: In the end he rejects Fuzz's We Can Rule Together offer, much to Fuzz's bafflement.

    The Void
A giant, sentient void encircling Hatena City, trapping everyone inside and devouring the residents.
  • Eldritch Abomination: A massive unknown force that none of the characters have any hope of directly dealing with.
  • Jackass Genie: Fulfills the Chicken Wing's wish to live forever only to later consume it once people start hating the Chicken Wing.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: In all its appearances it features a huge maw of teeth. Sometimes also paired with a single eye.

    Starface
"The stars are growing dim... and dwindling in number. But why...? Something's... NOT... RIGHT."

A villain who appears in the fourth video, "E46402_14F62365E17E6_000.ppm". He kills Kirby and steals his star, only to notice it losing power.

  • Even Evil Has Standards: You can tell there's something really wrong if even a villain like "Starface" realizes that something isn't right.
  • The Faceless: Even though Starface is a humanoid-like being, his face is never seen on-screen, even when later disguising as Weegee in another video.
  • Facial Horror: The fate of anyone doomed to die at Starface's hands, with only a star-shaped hole where their face once was. And judging from his second appearance disguising as Weegee, he had already done this to numerous restaurant attendees before doing the same to his "spouse".

    Hatena Residents
The Flipnote characters living in Hatena City. The story starts when they all get trapped in a dark void, slowly encircling them in, and vanish one-by-one.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In the tenth video uploaded to the archive, one particular Flipnote who had peaked in popularity at the time stands up to take on the titular cat clock in the world's hour of need.
  • Dissonant Serenity: One of the Flipnotes in the "10 feet in the air" video is very casual about the incoming apocalypse and being forcibly transported to a Fate Worse than Death.
"So, looks like the world's ended."
  • Fate Worse than Death: Numerous flipnotes are being taken and vanishing out of existence throughout the videos. It's implied that they may possibly be trapped and frozen in time for all eternity because of the cat clock's immense power. "Compilation #1" gives us a look into this presumed fate.
  • Mortality Phobia: The Chicken Wing wished upon a star to live forever specifically out of a fear of death. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be long until the Wing gets consumed by the void.
  • Rage Breaking Point: In the "Compilation #1" video, the lemonade stand character undergoes this after the shadow figure gives him only a vague explanation of his soon-to-be fate. In response, he gets the urge to shout at the figure and prepares to fight, but if the ending of the video is anything to go by, he didn't succeed.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In the original Flipnote presented in the third video, the weird-acting guy at the lemonade stand is punched pretty hard after annoying his co-worker enough. In the presented video, however, the Mood Whiplash happens before this can occur.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Mr. L appears for a moment in the fifth uploaded video while speaking to Kirby, mainly to cohere with how the original flipnote was, but after his brief appearance, he's seemingly gone, and has not shown up again in any future videos.
