Your Followers

     In General 
  • Action Girl: Every female party member qualifies, being skilled with one of the three weapons types and participating in fights.
  • Family of Choice: Only a few of the people in it are actually related by marriage or blood, but you are all devoted to each other's well being and have a bond born of mutual survival.
  • So Long, and Thanks for All the Gear: If a party member dies or leaves, he or she takes your gear with them.
     Jerome 
One of the original members of your nomad family, he and the family leader Hector found you in snow and nurse you back to health a year before the story started. He acts as a mentor to you throughout the story.


  • Feeling Their Age: Claims to be feeling this, and early on warns you to be prepared for when you find him dead in his tent one morning. He's relieved to finally be able to settle down in White Temple or in Eden.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Jerome wears a cloth over one of his eyes, because he lost it in a hunting accident.
  • Mentor Archetype: Jerome is one of the oldest members of the party and provides advice to you on numerous occasions.

     Demetra 
One of the original members of your nomad family, you spent a year traveling with her in Hector's family before the events of the story.


  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Demetra has mannerisms and ways of looking at things that are atypical. In one conversation she even mentions how others judged her unfairly because of this.
  • The Cynic: Near the end of the game, before you choose a faction to support, if you ask Demetra for advise she'll tell you to remember that none of the factions actually care about you.
  • Going Native: In the epilogue, no matter which faction you side with, Demetra joins the White Temple.
  • Like Brother and Sister: If the player character is male, and if you pick certain dialogue options, your relationship with Demetra can become this.
  • Rape as Backstory: Later on, Demetra reveals that at the settlement where she lived one of the men there regularly raped her. She stabbed him in the eye before running away.

     Carlos 
A member of another nomad family and the husband of April. He, his wife, and his friend Joseph were captured by the same slavers who took your family hostage. He joins your family after escaping with you.


  • The Cynic: Carlos tends to be pessimistic and to assume the worst of people.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Several other members of your party consider Carlos a jerk, and even his wife asks you to be patient with him.
  • Failure-to-Save Murder: If he survives the expedition to the Killer Tree, he blames you for April's death for going there despite his protests. He has a point: you could have saved April by letting him die.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Has one with Mobolaji, and the two argue quite a bit. However Mobolaji is the first to try to comfort him if April dies.
  • Heroic BSoD: Has one if his wife April dies, and it takes the discovery of Eden to shake him out of it.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Normally Carlos either complains or makes jokes, but when you encounter a Cannibal Clan he wants to kill every single one of them.
  • Morality Chain Beyond the Grave: If he survived the expedition to the Killer Tree, he refuses to participate on a seed heist on Garden because he knows April wouldn't have approved.
  • Opposites Attract: Carlos is cynical and pessimistic, yet he's Happily Married to the a Christian woman who tries to see the best in people.

     April 
A member of another nomad family and the wife of Carlos. She, her husband, and her friend Joseph were captured by the same slavers who took your family hostage. She joins your family after escaping with you.


  • The Heart: The kindest member of the party.
  • Heroic BSoD: Has one if her husband Carlos dies, and it takes the discovery of Eden to shake her out of it.
  • Opposites Attract: She's a religious woman who tries to see the best in people, and she is Happily Married to a cynical pessimist. Subverted later on, when she admits that in another world she might not have had any interest in him.
  • Token Religious Teammate: The only member of the party who talks about her religious beliefs, and a devout Christian.

     Eva 
Another nomad, she was captured by the same slavers who took your family hostage. She joins your family after escaping with you.


  • Conveniently an Orphan: Her parents are killed by the slavers at the start of the story.
  • Just a Kid: Defied. Eva tells you right away she doesn't want to be babied because of her young age.

     Mobolaji 
A man your family meets after arriving in The Vale. His family is murdered by a different group of slavers, and you can optionally save his life.


     Fang 
A recluse who Jerome's friend Robert sends you to when you seek information about The Wolf Pack. He joins your party in exchange for information.


  • Defector from Decadence: He used to be a Red Horseman, but ran away after three other warriors from his clan raped and murdered his lover.
  • The Only One I Trust: Considers Robert, the weapons trader in Windtown, to be this. He's willing to trust your nomad family simply because Robert does.
  • Rape and Revenge: When he reveals his past, he states that he tortured to death the three men who raped and murdered his lover.

     Bentrand 
A hunter you hunt down at the behest of Silvia. He can optionally join your party.


  • Dirty Coward: According to Silvia, Bentrand left her and some of her people to die in an expedition and stole their supplies. He claims she is lying. She is not.
  • Sixth Ranger Traitor: Once his past is revealed he holds Eva at knife-point in a bid to avoid being killed.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Demetra and Janeve both feel there is something sinister about him. He later betrays your party.

     Janeve 
A woman from The White People, you meet her in Garden while looking for Bentrand. You can optionally help her on a mission, and if you do she'll offer to join your party.


  • Belief Makes You Stupid: Despite being a firm believer in the philosophy of the White People, she does not share the theological beliefs and has little patience for the zealots in her tribe. If you choose to side with the White People, the epilogue reveals she later became the tribe's leader and placed more emphasis on the philosophical tenets than on the religion.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: If you side with any faction other than The White Temple, Janeve leaves your party without giving you a chance to talk her into staying or to even say goodbye.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: While most people from her tribe are scantily clad, Janeve walks around fully naked. She's aware of the taboo against this outside of her tribe, and accuses you of gawking at her when you first meet her.

     Tanya 
A woman you encounter while exploring the Killer Tree. She and TJ offer to join you party after you rescue them.


  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Subverted. If you try to join The White People, she'll at first declare her intention to do this. However when TJ says he won't follow her she decides to give them a chance.
  • Vengeance Denied: If you choose to cooperate with The Wolf Pack, Tanya complains about how they're getting off scot-free despite having killed members of her previous nomad family.
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: Averted. If you choose to kill The Wolf Pack, Tanya relishes her revenge. TJ states it's the only time he's ever seen her smile.

     TJ 
A man you encounter while exploring the Killer Tree. He and Tanya offer to join you party after you rescue them.


Traders

     In General 
  • Karl Marx Hates Your Guts: Everything seems to sell for the same amount wherever you go.
  • We Buy Anything: Even innkeepers and bartenders will buy inoperable flashlights, animal tendons, and other assorted things.
     Robert 
  • Arms Dealer: He sells weapons to the people of Wind Tower and to nomads that pass through the area.
  • Hidden Depths: He's introduced as an Arms Dealer eager to make profit, but he's the only man Fang trusts. Later on it's revealed that he knew Fang was a former Red Horseman, but was willing to look past that.
