Given the nature of this setting, there are some tragic events that occur.
- The game begins with the death of your family's first leader, Hector. He saved your life and kept your nomad family alive for a year, and soon after he's introduced he perishes of illness. His best friend Jerome admits that he never said a word about himself during the years they were alive.
- Demetra admits to you that in her first home she was bullied relentlessly for having a different outlook, and when you assure her that you accepted her she at first does not believe you. Later she reveals that a man in her first home raped her repeatedly before she ran away.
- Mobolaji is introduced cornered by bandits that murdered his family, and he leaves his hiding place holding his daughter's corpse in his arms and expressing a wish to die. While you convince him to follow you, he'll sink into a deep depression after your family settles down because he was only distracting himself from his trauma during the adventure.
- Eva's parents were murdered by the same bandits that captured you.
- April and Carlos love each other, but this is doomed to end in tragedy. In the quest for the Killer Tree, a quest needed to advance further, it is impossible to save them both. The one you save has to watch his or her spouse die horribly.
- The first ruins you find contain the huddled corpses of soldiers from the days of the apocalypse. Their world was ending and they knew not how to survive in it.
- None of the endings leave everyone satisfied.
- If you choose to side with anyone other than The White People, Janeve leaves your party without giving you a chance to change her mind or to even say goodbye. You never see her again and her fate is not mentioned in the dialogue options.
- If you choose to side with The White People, you never see Irma or Goran or their children again. Additionally, April finds herself unable to attach to them. She leaves without saying a word and you never see her again.
