The TRS redefined The Dark Chick to be a more direct Evil Counterpart to The Chick based mostly on Token Evil Female with some of The Dark Heart

rather than 'the vague quirky guy' / The Wacky Guy / Bunny-Ears Lawyer as it was before. Changing FBB accordingly

I've been looking at the reasons Five-Man Band was locked, one being due to improper examples. The rules for this trope seem pretty much the same as for that one and I was looking around and saw some pretty egregious violations. What do you say we create a cleanup thread for this trope and start a process like the one that's been going on for Five-Man Band for a while now. And if such a process is under way, could someone point me to it?

"and there may not even be five of them, though there are never fewer than four. "

This line exists in the description, but I don't see any examples listed here with as few as 4. Man of Steel now fits though.

Spoiler Warning

There are allot of examples now that I think it that basically combine The Dark Chick with one of the other positions, most commonly The Dragon. Like Nuits Rouges.

I see a lot of examples that are basically The Big Bad, The Dragon, and then The Brute being a collective of either mooks in general, or three guys rounding them out to five total.

Are these misuse or is this really that flexible?

The main description says that a Bad Band can have as few as 4 people. I think as long as there is a Big Bad and 3 of the other 4 it fits.

The 5 character types for this are more likely to be mixed up then the Heroic version.

Actually I can't think of a single example that easily and undisputedly fits into all those 5 Archetypes, in fact I find myself questioning if The Dark Chick exists at all. Every female in a Five-Bad Band I know of is typically either The Dragon or the Evil Genius, or a Dark Action Girl (or Dark Magical Girl), rarely one could be the Brute, of course there are female Big Bads. But certainly no clear evil Counterpart to The Chick (Which isn't always female anyway). And the ones that inevitably suffer a High-Heel–Face Turn I have trouble calling Dark anything.

Should the Big Bag be replaced with The Leader just as the Five-Man Band did to The Hero?

-looks at the page picture- Toad as the Dragon? REALLY?

People should just accept that the five-man band format cannot be pulled on every team, and that there can be more roles than only the above five which frequently get swapped around. In the X-men picture, Quicksilver is closer to being a Dragon, while Toad might be called The Brute but he is in fact a separate role (The Dirty Rat).

I'd like to challenge the rule on no Real Life examples. Surely, examples of bands of five criminals wouldn't be that bad, would they? We wouldn't be calling the people themselves evil, we'd just be calling them criminals. And criminals are bad, making a five-member band of criminals a Five-Bad Band.

The Mafia often runs on a comparable format. The Don or Boss is the Big Bad, the Underboss is The Dragon, The Consigliere would be the Evil Genius. And the Boss's top bodyguard or Enforcer would be The Brute (The Luca Brasi role in The Godfather). The main description says that for a Bad Band only 4 is required.

Let's discuss, what's wrong with Real Life examples?? I am really annoyed when you delete them all. Real Life is actually very perfect trope. Everyone considers Hitler as Big Bad. It is really annoying when I keep seeing those stupid phrases like "No real Life Examples" At least one NEEDS TO BE HERE! If Five Man Band has Real Life, what's the difference with Five Bad Band??

Agreed. Hitler was the Big Bad of the Nazis, so I don't see why Real Life examples shouldn't be added there. Besides, we have Real Life examples for The Dragon, but not Big Bad. What's up with that?

Are these really an example?

Mega Man Zero: Copy X and the Four Guardians (although the latter aren't exactly "villains")
  • Big Bad: Copy X
  • The Dragon: Harpuia (the spiritual successor)
  • Evil Genius: Phantom's the only one of the five to try both a sneak attack and a boss fight before his stage even begins. His division in the Neo Arcadian army is also stated as the Intelligence Unit.
    • Phantom could also be considered the second Dragon as well, considering he's the most loyal to Copy X, to the point of trying to take Zero with him.
  • The Brute: Fefnir; may not be the largest per se, but he's the most impulsive.
  • Dark Chick/Dark Action Girl: Leviathan.

Mega Man Zero 3:

Removed the Season 1 and 3 Buffy examples. You can't make a Five-Bad Band by cramming in every Monster of the Week that happens to be a little bigger or smarter than the last one. The only season of Buffy that comes close to having a Five-Bad Band is Season 2; Angelus is the Big Bad, Drusilla is The Dragon, Dalton (the vampire with the glasses) is the Evil Genius, and Spike, who would normally be The Dragon or The Brute, gets to be The Dark Chick in a wheelchair. But The Brute's role remains unfilled... again, you could try to make a case for the various Monster of the Week demons like the Judge and Acathla, but they really weren't around long enough.

Drusilla is actually considered the Big Bad of Season 2 (Hence The First being her the end of the season 7 premier) Angelus is the Dragon-in-Chief.

Po Po Lo Crois oddly has one despite it seemingly being a quirky mini boss squad

The Big bad Maira The Dragon Boxie(He is fought before Maira plus seemingly the most loyal to her) The Brute Gorg Evil Genius Garp (Transforms into Narcia, manipulates her emotions to sneak into the fairy castle and steal the plate) Dark Chick Zul(A Circus guy whom is turning children into goblins)
