Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

I do not expect that anybody will search for either term at all, let alone ahead of Mega City or Metropolis, which are highly common in English whereas the other two are not.
And what exactly are you basing this assertation on? The Google search results that I made conclusively debunk the idea that the two terms are not commonly used in English.

If you've ever lived in America you will know that probably not even 1 in 10 is aware that the word diaspora exists. Megalopolis and megapolis are words that are known by those who have studied the language and chosen to learn correct vocabulary, and by those native speakers who need to use it or also choose to do extra studies. These words are beyond uncommon for most native speakers. Lots of obscure technical jargon do get a lot of google results now, because of specialist forums and from academic papers being freely available online. And, even if the terms were somewhat known by the general public, they are still nowhere near the level of recognition of Metropolis — I have zero doubts that if people are searching for the concept of a Mega City that they will search for that first.

Simply, those words are just not known by most native English speakers in any capacity. As I said before, I've only heard them used in fiction (specifically, science fiction set in the future/other planets). So, you know that they are words, and what they mean — most don't.

Requesting adding this to Playboy:

Trope Namer for I Read It for the Articles. This really was a legitimate justification as recently as the 90s. Literary greats published in the magazine include Joseph Heller, Roald Dahl, Ian Fleming, Gabriel García Márquez, Margaret Atwood, John Updike, Haruki Murakami, Norman Mailer, and Ray Bradbury.

At Literature, please remove Creepypasta from works with their own pages. It's really only applicable to Fan Works and Other Media, so it should stay there. Thanks.
Also, at Web Original, please unlock it. We're giving that its own page.

  • 15284: Seems misleading, as "Permanent" is a critical part of that trope.
  • 15309: Unlock Monster.Web Original? You could just pull it from Page Source if you are creating a different page and then request the deletion of the moved content.

Apparently that old issue about redirects not showing up on the Related page has not been conclusively resolved, as City-State is absent from Land of One City's Related page.

On a different note, please redirect Psychoreactive Powers to Psychoactive Powers.Rationale

  • 15265/nombretomado regarding my last post.
I did post a sorta argument on the Discussion page for Fallen Creator which would probably be good to read, but I figure I'll write more. Not sure what sorta angle I could go for, more so what you'd be willing to accept. I have noticed people don't cite sources here for page changes other than just offhandedly mentioning them but I'm willing to link to them if requested. Sorry I'm so awkward at writing things up. A lot of my issue comes from not really knowing HOW to clear him from the list? Do I cite examples of him being spoken highly by the games industry? What's considered a biased source? etc. Like this is first and foremost a site for fans. So even though he's often cited as a legend by other game developers and as one of the fathers of cinematic games by people like Jim Sterling, magazines like EDGE Uk, Playstation magazines at the time of Heart of Darkness' release, has his work featured in magazines, exhibits, etc. it ultimately matters what his FANS think. And researching into people who are fans of his work I could only find one real person total who was disappointed in Heart of Darkness and From Dust, with a considerable amount thinking that his games have held up in quality. Generally speaking people prefer Another World, but still hold Heart of Darkness in high regard, with From Dust being enjoyed as well. Youtubers who seem to consider themselves fans of his work or to have enjoyed games of his design for instance Pew Die Pie, Dan Avidan (of Game Grumps fame) for their comments on Heart of Darkness, and Markiplier's comments on his playthrough of From Dust, are visibly impressed by the art direction and nature of the games, citing them as intuitive and wellmade. Other than Dan though, they are not truly "Eric's fans" more so just enjoying one or two of his games. Eric's fans just aren't the type to primarily get really loud and vocal about their opinions most of the time. Searching him on twitter you'll find people casually mentioning how he's their favorite developer or something of that nature but I wouldn't know what specific person to cite entirely that would matter. There's simply no bad blood between Eric and his fans. The issues largely with Heart of Darkness and its development was that the video game market and the advent of 3D graphics made it very difficult for small independent developers to put out games that could measure up to those their larger competition released. Amazing Studio, the company Eric was a part of but not to sole owner of consisted of 5 main team members, and at most numbered up to 12 as certain others were hired to work on the project. They functioned out of a small apartment in Paris and couldn't use or afford expensive equipment or programs to work on the game, creating most of their content from scratch. When the game was released it generally got around 70% positive rating for PC and 80% positive for Playstation. The biggest complaint was simply that 2D games weren't viable anymore and the 3D cutscenes that were impressive when it was first ready for release in 1996 were now a little less than average when compared to what larger studios were producing. The section on Fallen Creator makes it sound like Eric attempting to make a perfect game resulted in Heart of Darkness' downfall when in reality it was the company that signed on to release the game (Virgin Interactive Entertainment) were having financial turmoil and dropped the project before publishing it, leaving the team in limbo for much of 1997 and early 1998 as they attempted to find another publisher, by then releasing the game at a very rough time for a slightly dated 2D game to come out. The vast majority of criticism that Eric's games do get are not from fans, and are people who clearly haven't heard of him before and don't know the background of his indie titles made by small studios. There's also far more people who view him in a positive light than a negative one. Eric Chahi's acclaim is far more noticeable in French-speaking communities, simply because of the nature of being a French citizen and being a relatively secluded man working on smaller indie titles, however he is still very much lauded as a pioneer of video game intuition, in particular for the argument that video games are an art form. in 2012, his most famous game Another World was part of an exhibit on influential pieces of the game industry in the Museum of Modern Art, and in 2013; JMJV, a European Expo for video games loosely translated to "World Video Game Days" featured an entire exhibit on his life and works. Eric Chahi would then go on to create a real time volcano simulator featured in Reunion volcano museum. It was ended up correctly predicting an active eruption of the creator it was built to simulate. Eric as of 2013 has had a biography written about him (In French of course) by Pixnlove where the explanation that it was not failure of Heart of Darkness or of negative fan reception that drove him from the industry for so long, but rather the amount of time he worked on games without break during the currently shifting industry. His most recent project is still very much unknown aside from him getting a sizable money grant to produce it, and it being a virtual reality game called "Paper Beast" that he reportedly founded a new small development studio to create it. I admit I don't feel too confident in my abilities to write this. I would appreciate talking to me further on the subject as it's likely you're looking for very specific examples to indulge on in order to remove the entry. I do understand though that you are likely too busy to play a game of "help me explain in ways that are best for you" as this is one very small issue on a very obscure topic. So if not, here is at least the current section of the page with all outright inaccurate information removed:

" Eric Chahi, after making his Magnum Opus Another World in 1991, disappeared from the public eye for nearly decade. The long protracted development cycle caused by Virgin Interactive Entertainment letting go of the project near the end of development caused Heart Of Darkness to be released to warm but ultimately less enthusiastic ratings than Another World, due primarily to the game being 2D and the cutscenes visibly still leftover from its original intended 1996 release date. (released in 1998, it actually sold very well around 1.5 million copies and getting a platinum release in Europe. The game despite not being seen as revolutionary as Another World is still enjoyed by his fans.) He left the game industry for several years but came back in 2006 with the digitally distributed Updated Re-release of Another World, and through the new budding market for indie games developed the title From Dust which soon after was released on Steam and virtual console through Ubisoft. "

Sorry I couldn't be better at writing up this. Public debate is not one of my strong suits.
