Well, it is in there, at the end of the first paragraph, but yes, the emphasis should be better.
It says "If the work's set in Australia", implying to me that it's optional.
Clock is set.
This trope pretty much only says "Kangaroo". It's sort of a mix of Useful Notes on kangaroos, the way that kangaroos represent Australia, and a very short list of common ways kangaroos are represented.
We do have Boxing Kangaroo, Kangaroo Pouch Ride, but what else can a kangaroo be used for? If I interpret the trope name strictly (show an Australian connection using a kangaroo), I get the following from a wick check:
Correct:
- Australian Rules Football
- Beanie Babies
- Captain Ethnic
- Curious George
- Eiffel Tower Effect (pothole)
- Hollywood Atlas
- Characters/Housepets (though in the form that kangaroos are archetypically Australian)
- Lady Windermere's Fan
- Axis Powers Hetalia/Oceania
- Ovide and the Gang
- Skippy: Adventures in Bushtown - ZCE, but set in Australia
- The Fabulous Kangaroos - ZCE, but discussed in intro
Incorrect:
- Animal Stereotypes - discusses stereotypes about kangaroo characters
- Austin & Ally - discusses what the kangaroo causes
- Cool Pet (also a pothole) - only mention of a kangaroo
- Everythings Betterwith Penguins - discusses the mere presence of kangaroos
- FlashForward (2009) - it has escaped from zoo
- Monsters We Met - "kangaroos in show"
- Mortal Kombat 1 - Hollywood guy that once turned into a kangaroo
- Napoleon Dynamite - just presence of a kangaroo
- Power-Up Mount - totally ununderstablable; also a pothole
- Ridiculously Cute Critter (also a pothole)
- Shirokuma Cafe - simple presence of kangaroos
- The Wuzzles
- What Measure Is a Humanoid? (also a pothole)
- Animorphs: Animorphs
- At Arm's Length
- Video Game/Ballz
- Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
- Blinky Bill
- Video Game/Bomberman
- Boomer Express
- Dot and the Kangaroo
- End Run
- Everything Trying to Kill You (also a pothole)
- Fur Fighters
- Green Antarctica
- Ink OCT
- Kangaroo Jack
- Katekyō Hitman Reborn! - Protagonists
- Museum Madness
- Noahs Island
- Comic Strip/Pluggers
- Rocko's Modern Life
- Shirt Tales
- Spyro the Dragon
- Streets of Rage
- Super Robot Wars G
- Video Game/Tekken (also a pothole)
- The Magic Treehouse
So we have 12 correct examples, 13 incorrect, and 25 zero context ones.

I agree, the description should be rewritten to emphasise that this is, basically, what it says on the tin. Currently, it is way too chairy, but I for one think that the current trope title (what the trope actually is now) is definitely tropeable.
Example cleanup is definitely necessary, with that many incorrect and zero-context. At least one of the zero-context is technically correct, but in need of rewriting. I could go do that now, if you'd like, being familiar with what it's talking about.
Re-clocking. What is up with these stop-and-go threads?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanEvidently nothing. Putting this to sleep.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
Okay, discovered that Kangaroos Represent Australia got its current name via the old Everything's confusing with "EverythingsBetterWith" tropes clean-up thread.
One problem: Apparently, everyone forgot to rewrite the description to explain what it's now intended to be about: Kangaroos representing Australia.
Therefore, examples of kangaroos appearing in the work (but are not representing Australia in some way) are still examples, even if they'd normally constitute People Sit On Chairs. I don't think this is what we'd want in the first place.
