I kinda suck at these so the one I guess the one I liked the best was a short story i did in highschool once that was inspired by Edgar Allen Poe. Basically it involved a man being tortured by being laid on a table with his eyes kept open as a pair of needles were placed directly over his eyes, then having a bug crawl on him.

Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.

On a snowy mountainside, a woman gets pinned to the ground and her eyes burnt out with acid, then raped by the same man who blinded her.

According to my sister this counts as literal Gorn.

^ Reminds me of Titus Andronicus.

Hmm... thusfar the most horrifying thing I've written was probably a scene where a character's eye swelled up and she couldn't open it except by hand, whereupon she discovered it was full of holes. That was in a dream sequence, though. Said character was later threatened by a needle-holding doctor with a broken clock for a face, which I suppose is potentially disturbing, as well.

In terms of my current project, I have a transformation sequence planned for one of my characters, Feidl, which I'm going to aim to make creepy, though I'm not sure how I'll do that yet.

Let's see.

There is a hanging of a central character in an unknown area far away from home. They are left on the noose.

The protagonist has a Heroic RRoD. It is not pretty.

Yet another central character is shot many times before dying and returning as a magic-user.

That's all I'm going to say.

I've got one. In a nutshell, it's Kick the Dog taken to its (illogical) extreme.

Imagine, if you will, the hero after the battle of his life. He's been battered and beaten, but after dozens of chapters of struggling against him, he comes out victorious, and has taken the baddie's throne as his own. But just when he's about to take the final step and save his girlfriend, the REAL Big Bad shows up. And unfortunately, she's many times more powerful than the villain the hero just beat. Why? The old villain had power over all the ghosts in the world, and was essentially an embodiment of death. The new villain, however, has power that reaches to infinity and back — the power of nothingness.

By the way, old baddie? Ten-foot-tall, masked Black Knight. New baddie? Well...

The hero's clearly outmatched. But wait! Suddenly, here comes an old friend, being a big damn hero! And he's sending his dog in to attack!

It doesn't go well. Sure, the dog manages to sink his fangs into her arm, but that's as far as he gets. Because, not even ten seconds later, he starts decomposing. Fur, muscles, tissues, organs, his entire lower half melts away before she flings him to the ground. And then, with his body half-turned into a bloodstained, crumbling skeleton, she tells the friend to call his dog to his side. He obliges (albeit shakily), and the dog — loyal to the end — drags his body toward him, leaving a trail of blood, whimpering all the while.

But then she stomps on his back, holding him in place and breaking a few bones, and forcing a few pathetic squeals from his body. She holds up a hand and starts counting down. Five, four, three, two, one.

Boom. The dog explodes in a burst of bloody fireworks, spraying all over her body. But she doesn't care. Because she can't stop smiling.

I actually got the idea to write that from a nightmare that I had a while back. This scene, above all the others in the story, scares the hell out of me; it's not perfect, but it's definitely one way of setting up the true villain of the story.

Man, I'm starting to regret making this post. Just thinking about it gives me the creeps...

Around the 3/4 of my story, the protagonists finally track down the Serial Killer. The leader of the team delievers a long and hammy speech about justice and power of determination and friendship.

Then he pulls out Slasher Smile out of nowhere, grabs aluminum bat*

, and bludgeons the killer into bloody pulp, all the while laughing like a madman and ignoring the killer begging for mercy.

For those of you who are familiar with my posts*

, he's The Lancer.

Let's see, I have a future story bit involving a girl that's knocked unconscious. When she wakes up she finds herself in a very small confined space that she doesn't recognize. But then it starts getting warmer and she realizes that she's actually inside of an oven and that it's been forced shut. Meanwhile the temperature continues to rise...Oh and it's in her POV too.

I need to do some research first though...You know, It'sForaBook

Grossest? A guy gets sliced open and his intestines are tied to a railing in order to keep him upright. Then his head is cut off and placed in the cavity that his intestines used to fill.

Most horrifying? Just from what I have scripted, it's probably the moment where Nicole almost kills the young child of an assassination target and has a flashback to the event that made her what she is, resulting in a Heroic BSoD. Better Than It Sounds.

I dabble in horror quite a bit, so hopefully I'll have a good amount here.

Jordan Eats Normally Now was my first attempt at a horror blog, though I attempt to be realistic to the point that horror is hard to pull off. But that's all part of the challenge, isn't it? >w> And I think the character of Sam was developed well enough to offer some good, clean horror. For starters, making it clear that Sam is an American who lives in America, only to have her suddenly show up in England.. well, that was my first attempt at a scare, and it probably didn't work.

Then we have the head turn in this entry. Y'know, it wasn't easy to shoot that. I had to lug a laptop around, and get the camera just right, and I had to rely on that actress timing it just right. But it came out much better than I could have hoped. Still gives me goosebumps, especially with the sound effects.

Then we have this video. It's got some funny points, but the background stuff can freak you out, what with Sam teleporting, and the Genesis album teleporting.. it's a little creepy. Then THIS was my attempt at a big scare. We wound up breaking that bathroom door; it wasn't an easy scene to shoot. xD But I think it was worth it.

Then we have the climax of the second movement. We pulled out all the stops for that one, and I think it came out very well. I don't know if anyone was expecting the ending, which brought up a little Chekhov's Gun from waaay earlier. And I think this was the entry where my acting finally stopped sucking. xD I wonder if anyone can spot the two tentacles in the video, too. >w>

Oh, on a less story-based note, "4" and "5" scared people, I'm sure. >w> Then "6" surprised everyone, no doubt. "8" was my last attempt at experimenting with that kind of video.

In terms of text-based entries, this particular one got a number of people. Countdowns are pretty much always scary. And this one actually scared myself. I don't know about anyone else, though.

Moonlit Whispers has scared just about everyone I've shown it to. This entry was the first I know of to truly scare people. Then this one got people, too.

This entry speaks for itself.

Dark Chao Adventures, being mah baby for the past seven years, has been subject to much experimentation with writing styles and genres. It is in DCA that I discovered just how awesome it is to write horror. I've had the main protagonists in your average post-apocalyptic future, meeting their Action Hero future selves most of who are actually some distorted version of gruesome zombie.

I think the most horrifying moments from DCA, though, are Wilson Constable Kilburn *

and the third Halloween special * . Not to mention sub-story of the latter, "Bound to a Stream of Consciousness," which is pretty much the single scariest thing I've ever written. >.>;; * I may have went overboard with that Halloween special. >.>

Me and My Family of Friends, a collection of creepypastas I'm making, has one story in particular that's just the right amount of creepy. >w> "Forest of Faces," see, is of a character who gets lost in a forest *

and hears endless laughter, a sort of wheezing laughter. Occasionally, he'll see a mask amidst the trees, only for it to disappear. In the end, a stranger knocks him out and he awakes surrounded by figures in masks. The large figure in front of him is not wearing a mask; his face is just extremely pale and has a purple gaping mouth. The figure cackles and wheezes as he bends down and puts a mask over the protagonist's face.

The Mouse in the Doorway, generally one of my most interesting stories, deals with an old man/mouse who watches a little girl/gerbil as she sleeps. Yet the Unfortunate Implications aren't the scary part. The gerbil spots the mouse at the start of the story and gets to know him. She begins to realize why this mouse has no choice. *

Now if only I could find a nice place to post that story.

I think that's about it. My Shameless Self-Promotion is over now. Sorry. xD

My most horrifying stuff usually focuses on disturbing deaths and injuries, or the character's panic and Heroic BSoD-laden reactions. Probably the best example of both involves a terrified character with fire powers trying to hide, holding a trapped guards face and proceeding to burn it off with her hands as he is shrieking desperately before dying. Depending on your perspective, its ether improved or made worse by the fact that I tend to get into very visceral detail about that sort of stuff.

Oh, that and unsettling landscapes. Not really horrifying, but I know how to make a setting give off nice creepy vibes, with or without descending into an Eldritch Location.

I'm such an awesome writer, you guys, and I came here onto TV Tropes to tell you guys that my horror is so totally more horrific than yours. It's so horrifying that I don't even want to tell you guys about it, because you'll probably end up just having panic attacks. Just imagine it being crazy scary.

It's also full of spoilers, which I wouldn't want to spoil for you guys. But trust me. It's amazing. So just imagine the most amazing thing possible, and know that it's better than that.

In fact, I think this just goes to show how awesome of a writer that I am. They should just make websites based off of me. I just need to write it down. You guys know.

The main character essentially winds up looking up an alien's skirt while it attempts to consume him. Mind you, these aliens have appeared throughout the entire book, and they all looked fairly mundane and harmless. But when he gets the chance to see one from underneath, he discovers that the semi-digested bodies of every human it's ever killed in its lifetime are still visible (this incidentally leads to the revelation that the Gold Digger had a Bus Crash).

I just love to make my protagonist pass the moral event horizon but still save the day, and then start to blur the lines of an anti-hero soldier, villain protagonist, and start to cross the line into tragic hero and a mentally unstable person with hints of a Dark Messiah. Though, it could be argued that it is more of the character decaying over time, with an underlying and unrecognized mental illness sinking in.

As far as the moral event horizon, it is kind of vague if he ever entered it, leaving open alternate character interpretations on purpose, getting the readers to realize that even they are capable of such things. It is to blur the lines, destroy labels, and just present a complex and honest story about the human soul.

Unfortunately, it is pure Nightmare Fuel on one level, to see my hero be such an honest and well meaning person, who's sense of justice leads him to revenge, and his hate corrupting him, and the hate and good part of him clashing, and that clash rip apart his physc more than he can stand.

The scene in question in though? It can be anything from overkill up to eleven in the name of it feeling good and being purely sadistic and phycotic against his foes, to something selfish or completely wrong, but it is all motivated by his sense of vengeance. It twists him, and part of him loves it.

The part where it gets the high octane rating? I am no stranger to this struggle in the least.

Take your pick: None of these are really intended to be high octane, but they may be disturbing to people. YMMV.

One of the main characters chained to a wall watching mountain trolls eat his friend alive.*

I spare few details.

For you arachnophobes: A 6 foot wide spider. It's mostly legs, but either way, for some people...

A character gets shot by a poisoned arrow and is bleeding to death without realizing anything is wrong. No one else notices how badly she is injured until she falls dead. *

A summoned daemon which causes every living thing that touches it to disintegrate into dust, slowly. Slow enough to (for example) watch it progress up your arm. It also has lots of mooks (see below)

These little daemons that are invisible, fairly small (the size of a medium sized dog), hungry, lightning fast and love to ZergRush. [[Spoiler: They are not invisible to infrared]]

Edit: Spelling boss.

I don't tend to write much horrifying stuff. I like my works idealistic and light-hearted, not horrifying.

The few times I've written about someone getting really badly injured, though, I'll try and make that horrifying for the characters. I usually hint at something a little then back away rather than show all the gory details.

The only concrete things I can think of right now are Del, my fire mage, who is deliberately blinded by slavers. He's unconscious when it happens, though, and just wakes up with his eyes gone.

Or an experimental sequence I wrote (about the only time i was deliberately trying to be creepy) about a character (named Gwin)having guilt-fuelled dreams about a friend he killed himself on someone else's orders. The dream friend has a reasonably rational conversation with him, acknowledging that yes, he's dead, and it's all Gwin's fault. He then begins to play a recorder that he was very fond of in life... only, mid-song, the wound across his throat that he died of slowly begins to open, gushing blood everywhere, and he doesn't appear to notice and carries on playing.

Be not afraid...

Human sacrifice is par for the course, so it doesn't really count. I tend to pull Gory Discretion Shots on these, although I show a particularly gruesome one to great detail.

I do avert Annoying Arrows, and I'm thorough when describing violence. Melee combat ain't clean or surgical. It's messy. People don't die instantly, they scream in agony for minutes. Body parts get crushed, torn apart or generally mangled, people die senselessly, y'all know the drill.

There's also some torture, some rape, and some utterly pointless brutality.

That's more or less what I meant earlier. In my opinion it's not the graphic detail that makes a scene scary, but the emotional impact it has.
