    General Protagonist Traits
While each protagonist has a different personality and story, they each share similar traits.
  • Chick Magnet: Poor guy, attracting the attention of Yandere girls who might kill him.
  • Distressed Dude: No matter what happens, The Protagonist is always placed in danger. He'll be lucky if he gets to live the rest of his life with his selected girl.
  • No Name Given: The love interests use masculine pronouns such as "Onii-chan" in place of a simple name.
    • Nagisa's track alludes to what his surname is by looking at hers.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: It's never stated how old The Protagonist is, but each one is somewhere in high school.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Often times, he'll say or do the wrong things, which seal his fate with the love interest or get him killed.
  • Unlucky Everydude: The Protagonist is supposed to be a normal guy who's thrown into a horror story.
  • The Unseen: This is done so that the listener can place himself in the story.
  • Unwanted Harem: The poor guy is stuck with a bunch of insane girls who want to kill him or other girls.
  • The Voiceless: The girls say whatever it is that he says. It's sometimes left for interpretation what he says.

    General Love Interest Traits
Each girl has her own distinctive trait and background.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The more common reason why the girl falls for The Protagonist is because he showed her a little bit of kindness.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: They're very possessive and refuse to share their loved one with anyone else.
  • Cute and Psycho: Don't be fooled by their smiles. These girls are psychologically traumatized and mentally unstable.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Their mental instability will lead to them believe that The Protagonist is unfaithful to them and kill anyone that stands in the way of their "affections".
  • If I Can't Have You...: A good chunk of these girls end up killing The Protagonist while others threaten to do so.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: Their love for the protagonist causes them to become unhinged and determined to make him theirs, even if they have to kill other girls or him to do so.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: Either they kill a rival or they at least consider doing it.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Some of their reactions to The Protagonist rejecting them or choosing someone else over them.
  • Stepford Smiler: Type C's, all of them. In addition to being Cute and Psycho, they're also great actresses by hiding their psychotic sides with a friendly smile.
    • A few are exceptions as they were originally Type A's. Then The Protagonist showed up in their lives and changed their lives forever.
  • Weapon of Choice: They each have their own, which they use during their breakdowns.
  • Yandere: Each track starts with them being very affectionate towards the protagonist. That is, until something causes them to let their psychotic side show such as him being with another girl. The degree to their nature varies. Only one "love interest" expresses their devotion to another character.

Yandere No Onna No Ko 1

First Protagonist

A friendly Nice Guy who is quite an airhead. He is the older brother of Nagisa. He also has been friends with Ayase since childhood and they are officially dating. At school, he is quite popular and a member of the Gardening Club. There, he always helps and encourages Sonoko, a bullied girl and his classmate. All of these three girls are in love with him, but he is unaware of it.

Because he is so airheaded and Oblivious to Love, he never ends up well in any scenario. In Nagisa’s track, he is stabbed to death after being immobilized of his legs and being forced to eat Nagisa’s food. In Ayase’s track she paralizes his whole body using a hammer, feeds him using a knife and bludgeons him as she forces him to live with her forever while in Sonoko’s track, he is kidnapped, killed and his skull is turned into a flower pot.

  • Big Eater: According to Nagisa and Ayase.
  • Body Horror: In Sonoko’s track, she kills him and uses his skull as a flower pot.
  • Chaste Hero
  • Fate Worse Than Death: It's implied that he's injured so much in Ayase's track that he may be forced to rely on her for the rest of his life.
  • Killed Off for Real: In all the tracks.
  • Oblivious to Love: Has no idea of Ayase, Nagisa or Sonoko's feelings for him.
  • Nice Guy: And perhaps the nicest of the protagonists. Causes lots of conflicts later.
  • No Name Given: However, based on Nagisa, his surname might be Nonohara.

Nagisa Nonohara

Voiced by: Yurika Ochiai

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yandere_chara01b_2815.jpg

Nagisa is the younger sister of the Protagonist. She loves him dearly, but he is oblivious to this. She also does the housework and cooks dinner for him, because of their absent parents. Later, Nagisa goes well off the hook, feeling that her brother has been spending time with Ayase and Sonoko rather than her.

Ayase Koumoto

Voiced by: Ryo Hirohashi

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yandere_chara02b_8746.jpg

Ayase is the childhood friend of the Protagonist. She has a massive crush on him and wants to marry him in the future. Apparently, they are dating, but she might be a Unreliable Narrator. She is clingy, lively, outgoing and cheerful around him but later starts becoming jealous and paranoid, thinking that he is spending more time with Nagisa and Sonoko.

  • Alpha Bitch: Towards Sonoko.
  • Aggressive Submissive: She's willing to do simple housework for The Protagonist, take care of him, and do anything for him. Unfortunately, she kills anyone that she considers a threat and physically handicaps him, which forces him to depend on her.
  • Boobs of Steel
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's so upbeat and cheerful, it's really disturbing to hear her turn Yandere.
  • Body Horror: In Sonoko’s track, she is killed and turned into fertilizer.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: She's known The Protagonist since they were kids.
  • Failed a Spot Check: It's implied that she was covered in Nagisa's blood when she returns in the second part of her track and was unaware of why the Protagonist was scared of her.
    • She also fails to understand why he utters the words, "Save me", believing that he's asking her to save him from all the other women that come near him.
  • Genki Girl
  • Girl Next Door: She's this combined with the Childhood Friend trope.
  • Hair Decorations: Wears a dark blue ribbon in her ponytail.
  • Killed Off for Real: In Nagisa’s track she is stabbed to death while she is turned into fertilizer in Sonoko’s track.
  • Laughing Mad: As she's beating The Protagonist with her hammer, she laughs hysterically at the screams he makes.
  • Loves the Sound of Screaming: She becomes addicted to The Protagonist's screams as she's beating him with her hammer. In fact, she loves it so much that she finds something new to love about him and decides to hit him some more.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: When they were younger, she would always stand up for The Protagonist whenever he was in trouble.
  • Patient Childhood Love Interest: A stereotypical one. She grew up together with the Protagonist since childhood and while she originally though of him as a crybaby, she later fell in love with him. Instead of taking the initiative to become his girlfriend, she decided to take it slowly, developing a Like Brother and Sister relationship with him. Plus, she prepares food for him. By the time of her track, she has already got impatient of his airheadness and starts treating him like they are dating.
  • Through His Stomach: Ayase often invites the Protagonist to have lunch with her. It does not help the fact that she is a Supreme Chef. He is, as usual, oblivious to it, but Nagisa quickly notices Ayase’s intentions and goes into a rage which ends up with Nagisa killing Ayase and the Protagonist in her track.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Tomboy to Nagisa’s Girly Girl.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail
  • The All-Solving Hammer: In her track, she uses a hammer to bludgeon the Protagonist to the point he cannot move anymore and confines him in her house. Forever.
  • Supreme Chef: It rivals Nagisa. In fact, Nagisa's track ends with her killing him because he's prodded to say that Ayase's cooking is better than his sister's.
  • Victorious Childhood Friend: What she believes to be.
  • Weapon of Choice: A hammer.
  • Would Hurt a Child: She ends up killing Nagisa for being "in her way".

Sonoko Kashiwagi

Voiced by: Shiho Kawaragi

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yandere_chara03b_5712.jpg

A shy and meek girl from the Gardening Club who is often bullied by her classmates. The Protagonist was the only one who stood for her and was nice towards her. Because of it, she develops a crush on him. However, he only regards her as a classmate and holds no feelings towards her. She does not see it that way and believes that they are dating. That’s why she becomes jealous of Ayase, his clingy childhood friend.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: She is bullied by her classmates, with the exception of the Protagonist.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Killing the Protagonist and making his head into a flower pot? Man, that’s fucked up.
  • Boobs of Steel
  • Break the Cutie: She was a victim of bullying at school, especially at the hands of Ayase. The abuse causes her to snap and kill Ayase and the Protagonist.
  • Broken Bird: She's targeted for bullying at school. This was how The Protagonist met her.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She kills The Protagonist for being with other girls.
  • Cute Bookworm: She's known for being quiet and bookish.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Even after she killed the Protagonist in a rather gruesome way. Also, she never does an Evil Laugh like the other girls, but she is creepy nonetheless. She only loses her composure after Ayase calls her a "thieving cat"note  for "stealing" her boyfriend.
  • Expy: Of Kotonoha Katsura from School Days. Ironic, and doubly hilarious when you realize that Sonoko's voice actress voiced Sekai, Kotonoha Katsura's foil and fellow Yandere in School Days.
  • Fragile Flower: She's very sensitive and introverted.
  • Innocent Flower Girl: She has the look and is also part of the gardening club.
  • Killed Off for Real: She is stabbed to death in Nagisa’s track and bludgeoned to death in Ayase’s track.
  • Meaningful Name: Sonoko (園子) literally means "garden child".
  • Not Quite Dead: In Ayase’s track. Even after Ayase bludgeons her and gravely injures her, she resists and screams for help. Unfortunately, Ayase’s room was sound-proof and no one heard her when she was finally Killed Off for Real.
  • Pet the Dog: Unlike Ayase, she lets Nagisa live because she's the Protagonist's little sister. However, that doesn't mean she didn't consider killing her.
  • Rapunzel Hair: Long hair that goes past her hips.
  • Shrinking Violet: A result from being bullied.
  • Shovel Strike: She stabs Ayase in the stomach with a shovel.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: She has long purple hair.
  • Stalker With a Crush: After the Protagonist saves her from some bullies, she believes that the two of them are dating. What she doesn't realize is that she's actually stalking him and becomes obsessed with him.
  • Stepford Smiler: A Type A with some Type C elements thrown in.
  • Weapon of Choice: A shovel.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Subverted.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Purple to be exact.

Yandere No Onna No Ko 2

Second Protagonist

A honest yet kind Deadpan Snarker. His parents are currently away on vacations, so his cousin Yumemi is currently taking care of him. Unlike the first Protagonist, who was oblivious to the girls crush on him, he is shown to be aware of it, but he is insensitive about the other girls feelings, because he is too kind and does not want to hurt their feelings. He also is afraid of the fact that each of the girls want to claim him for themselves. To his own misfortune, he is honest to a fault and woefully ignorant when it comes to matters of love, earning the girls’ wrath and frustration.

Because of his Selective Obliviousness, he never ends up well in any scenario. In Sakuya’s track, he is forced to live with her forever and threatened by her attack dog, after refusing her money in order to become hers forever. In Iori’s track, she makes him a purifying ritual which ends with him being sliced in half. In Nana and Nono’s track, he is stabbed to death by them. And finally in Yumemi’s track, she imprisons him in her room, forcing him to love her forever.

Sakuya Ayanokouji

A Lonely Rich Kid who has a requited crush on the Protagonist. However, she is unable to show her feelings for him, because of her distant parents, who rarely show love to her, acting like a tsundere towards him. She later starts becoming jealous about him spending more time with other girls and decides to buy him in order for him to be hers forever.

Iori Nanamiya

Voiced by: Hiromi Konno

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/04yandere_d2_yan_4085.jpg

A miko who has been sheltered from the world in order for her miko-training. She is extremely devoted to her god and her life goes centered about it. However one day she met the Protagonist, and she was charmed by his kindness. She then started to refer him as her new god. They started dating soon after in her track, but he cheats on her with Sakuya, causing Iori to believe that she has been tainted by the world because she sacrificed her connection with God and her powers due of her love to the Protagonist.

Nana and Nono

Voiced by: Tomoko Kaneda (Nana), Sayaka Aoki (Nono)

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/04yandere_d3_yan_5644.jpg

A pair of amoral twins who befriend the Protagonist after meeting him in the park. However, they started to become more obsessed with the Protagonist, often asking him to play, even when he did not have the time to do it. After long days of him evading the twins, they arrive to his house carrying some weapons in order to play the last game...

Yumemi Takanashi

Voiced by: Ryo Hirohashi

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/o0300060011235857418_7574.jpg

Cousin of the Protagonist. After his parents went on vacations, she took care of him and gradually fell in love with him. However, due to his Selective Obliviousness, he prefers to ignore it. Yumemi gradually got suspicious of the existence of rivals, because he is oblivious to her love. Then, she started stalking him with some gardening scissors in order to get rid of her love rivals.

  • All Take and No Give: In the end of her track
  • Ax-Crazy: She kills her rivals in the most brutal of fashions. When she corners the protagonist in his room, she happily tells him how she killed the girls. She even gets excited by the prospect of torturing and/or killing him with scissors if he called her crazy again.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing
  • Evil Redhead
  • Hair Decorations: Wears a yellow ribbon in a side of her head.
  • Japanese Sibling Terminology: She refers to the second Protagonist as “Onii-chan”. They are cousins, however.
  • Kawaiiko: And she is still one of the most brutal yanderes.
  • Last Girl Wins: In her track. However, she forces the Protagonist to love her and threatening with killing him if he doesn’t.
  • Manipulative Bitch
  • Miss Swears A Lot: So very much and combined with Cluster F-Bomb:
    "Fucking bitch!"
    "That’s just not fucking possible!"
"If you understand, at least fucking answer me!"
  • Pink Means Feminine
  • Running With Scissors: A creepy example, combined with Evil Laugh:
"These scissors...make very nice cuts...If Onii-chan keeps making jokes like this I might accidentally stab Onii-chan with them. If you would get stabbed it would hurt, wouldn’t it? I think it would hurt. I think it would really hurt and if I twisted them around you you would scream from it hurting so much! "
  • She Cleans Up Nicely
  • Stalker Shrine: In her room, she eventually covers the whole walls and even the ceiling with photos of the Protagonist.
  • Stalker With a Crush: She knows about the girls that the protagonist talked to because she had been following him.
  • Supreme Chef
  • Verbal Tic: "Mukyuu~"

  • Woman Scorned: In her track, she doesn’t take the Protagonist rejection well. She resolves it by killing all the girls and her paranoia grows to the point she also decides to kill the Protagonist’ parents.
  • Would Hurt a Child: In her track, she kills Nana and Nono in a jealous rage. In the twins' track, she started fighting them with her scissors.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: She pretends to be this for the Protagonist.
  • Yandere: Fans think of her as the most violent.
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Bright pink hair.

Yandere No Onna No Ko 3

Third Protagonist

A kind and carefree yet blunt and direct boy. He is a long distant relative of the Sakuranomiya sisters who just happens to be in their same school. Elise develops a massive crush and attachment to him and they later start dating. However siscon jealous sister Alice starts flirting with him in order to separate them. He also founds a robot maid whom he calls Yumia, whose he found in the garbage. He also has a part-time job, where he is slightly attracted to his kohai and co-worker Tomoe.

Because he is Innocently Insensitive and blunt to a fault, he never ends up well in any scenario. Well, with the exception of Elise’s track, in which she kills Alice and they live a happy, normal life. In the other endings, he is not so lucky. In Yumia’s track, he is decapitated and has his head grafted onto Yumia's body, keeping him alive almost indefinitely, with implications that she intends to embark on a campaign to exterminate humanity. In Tomoe’s track he runs away from an AxeCrazy Tomoe and his fate is left ambiguous while in Alice’s track, he is kidnapped and bludgeoned to death by a berserking Alice, who was mentally unstable after Elise’s suicide.

  • And I Must Scream: His fate in Yumia’s track, who keeps his decapitated head alive with her powers.
  • Dirty Coward: In the Elise and Alise tracks.
  • Easily Forgiven: By Elise, in her track.
  • Innocently Insensitive: His main trait, which only serves to make things worse. For example, inviting Alice to his date with an insecure Elise or calling Tomoe gross after finding out that she's transgender.
  • Jerkass: He is quite a jerk in Alice’s track, not caring at all that Elise died for him and only complaining that Alice’s love for him was not real.
    • He's a jerk in Elise's track too. He and Elise are already dating, and yet he asks her if Alice could join them on their next date, which leaves Elise crying as she runs away from him.
  • Karma Houdini: In Elise’s track.
  • Kissing Cousins: Alice and Elise are his distant relatives.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: For Elise.

Elise Sakuranomiya

Voiced by: Shiho Kawaragi

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Chara01_b_3053.jpg

Elise is a distant relative of the Protagonist. She has admired him since he was younger and she later becomes his girlfriend. She is quiet and sort of a loner and has an inferiority complex towards her sister Alice. However she is uncapable of hating her, since she is also proud of her. In her side-story, Alice flirts with the Protagonist, because she has a massive crush on her sister, causing Elise to mentally break down and bringing all her insecurities to the fore.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's very kind and patient. However, when her sister takes things too far by kissing the guy she likes, Elise kills her in retaliation.
  • Break the Cutie: Poor Elise. Her sister has taken away anyone who tries to engaging in a relationship, thus making her feel unloved and alone. It's even worse when Alice's route reveals that she did this because she a Clingy Jealous Girl for her own sister.
  • Broken Bird
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: In Yumia and Tomoe's tracks.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Does this in her track. After Alice successfully steals her boyfriend (due to her yandere siscon tendencies), Elise snaps and kills her. She is never aware of the fact that the reason why she was a social leftout and why all her possible boyfriends died was because of Alice’s doing.
  • Dogged Nice Girl
  • Driven to Suicide: Only in Alice’s track, though.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: She kills Alice in a rage fit of jealousy but she actually ends up with the Protagonist.
  • First Girl Wins: Only in her track.
  • Fragile Flower: All she wanted was to be loved and have a relationship. Unfortunately, no matter what, her sister refused to let her have any form of happiness.
  • Japanese Sibling Terminology: She refers to the third Protagonist as “Onii-sama”. However, they are only long distant relatives. She also calls Alice "onee-sama", making her the older twin.
  • Knife Nut
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: She tries this in her track, upon realizing that the Protagonist cheated her with Alice, but Alice was the one who took initiative. She succeeds in her track but in Alice’s track she is unable to do it and commits suicide instead.
  • Nice Hat: The white cabbie hat which is part of her uniform.
  • Nice Girl
  • No Social Skills
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Blue Oni to Alice's Blue Oni.
  • Shrinking Violet
  • Spell My Name with an "S": Even the official page does not decide if her name is Elise or Elis.
  • Stepford Smiler: A Type A. Later becomes a Type C.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards the Protagonist at least, Elise never tries to kill or force the Protagonist to love her.
  • Weapon of Choice: A knife.

Yumia

Voiced by: Kaoru Mizuhara

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Chara02_b_4086.jpg

She is a robot created by Sakuya’s family company. Yumia is the latest model of Maidroid, possessing artificial intelligence and emotions that are almost indistinguishable from human. The Protagonist founds her in the trash, takes her home, and when he switches her on, he finds she has no memory of how she got there, or who her master is. And thus he gains a robot maid.

Tomoe Asakura

Voiced by: Asami Shimoda

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/100_character_questions_tomoe_asakura_by_yanderetrap_d76w96x.jpg
Click here to see Tomoe's true appearance (spoilers)

Tomoe is a girl who starts working with the Protagonist at his part-time job. She fell in love with him at first sight and would often find ways to talk with him. She is often mistaken for an elementary schooler due to her being a Genki Girl. When asked about her school or her home address, she only replies, "That's a maiden's secret!"

She is transgender, and she tried to hide that from the Protagonist. She also suffers from Chuunibyou, and thus has delusions of having been romantically involved with the protagonist in a past life.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing
  • Bokukko: Because her birth sex is male.
  • Cheerful Child: What she pretends to be.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: In Alice and Elise's tracks.
  • The Cutie: Subverted.
  • Evil Albino: It is actually a wig. Her true hair is short and black.
  • The Fake Cutie: She's genuinely quite innocent and naive, but in contrast to that she's probably one of the most brutal characters in the story. Her track makes it pretty clear that her “cute little girl” act is just an act. Her track implies that she is delusional and lives in a state of denial, believing herself to have been both biologically female, and in a relationship with the protagonist, in a past life.
  • Freudian Excuse: Tomoe never tells anyone even the Protagonist about her sizes, address or school. Justified since she's a transwoman and is insecure about it.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Subverted. They are actually fake.
  • Hair Decorations: On the hairbands that hold her pigtails. When her wig falls off, she wears a headband.
  • I Call It "Vera": She calls her sword "Levathain".
  • Killed Off for Real: She is vaporized to death in Yumia's track.
  • Kawaiiko: Subverted.
  • Knife Nut: She has a "sacred sword", which she tries to use against the Protagonist to get her to "remember their past".
  • Love at First Sight
  • Miss Imagination: Has elaborate delusions about how she and the Protagonist were lovers in a past life. She even calls the Protagonist "Elsion", believing him to be an ancient knight and believing herself to be a magician healer called Tiary T. Luna.
  • Sempai/Kohai: Tomoe is the Protagonist’s kohai.
  • Shout-Out: Her "sacred sword" Levathain, which is an attack of Axe-Crazy Flandre Scarlet from Touhou.
  • Stalker With a Crush: She has stalked the Protagonist and taken several pictures of him, which she shows to him to convince him that everything she's saying about them being lovers in the past is true. She even planted a tracking device on him, which she uses to chase after him.
  • Token Mini-Moe
  • Transsexual: She believes in a long, complicated story that she used to be a woman in another life. She was "cursed" to possess a male's body in her "current" life. She's physically male, but she dresses in female clothing and wears breast pads in her shirt. When the Protagonist learns the truth about her, he's disturbed by this revelation and runs away.
  • Weapon of Choice: A dagger. She believes it is a sacred weapon called Levathain.

Alice Sakuranomiya

Voiced by: Kaori Mizuhashi

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Chara04_b_5894.jpg

Alice is Elise's older sister. She is popular and outgoing, which in turn has caused Elise to have an inferiority complex. Ironically, Alice has more feelings for Elise than just a normal sibling's relationship and steals Elise’s boyfriends and friends out of jealousy. She does not hold any feelings for the Protagonist, and is merely acting to "protect her sister".
