"Definitely don't want hay fever!"

The main protagonist of The Gray Garden, a cheerful and airhead female demon studying in the Gray Village's school. One day when going out at night to see the moon, she gets attacked by a flaming bat...

  • Acrophobic Bird: Due to an accident when she was younger, Yosafire developed a fear of heights and flying. She finally gets over it when Froze, A Friend in Need, is pushed down a cliff and Yosafire jumps after her to save her.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Yosaf.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Unlike most of her friends, she doesn't have long hair and she's less girly overall.
  • Cheerful Child: About the most cheerful cast member and the driving force of her group due to it.
  • Distaff Counterpart: A bonus CG in Garden Gray The shows the male version of Yosafire.
  • Does Not Like Men: Very harsh on boys, especially with Emalf.
    • On the other hand, this does not apply to adult men like Lowrie, who is her favorite teacher, or Kcalb, who is touched by her kindness. Emalf goes out of his way to earn her disgust.
  • Glasses Beams: Adjusting her glasses deals damage to enemies.
  • Fragile Speedster: Has high agility and good attack with defense being her lowest stat.
  • Genki Girl: Not much gets her down.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Her default weapon is cross sword.
  • Hot-Blooded: Always acts positively and like a leader, as well as being the driving force of her group.
  • I Can Still Fight!: Even after the girls get knocked out by a superpowered Ivlis at first, Yosafire is the only one of them who stands up.
  • Idiot Hero: Whoo boy. Yosafire has a bad habit of missing the often extremely obvious point. It also doesn't occur to her to question what the deal is with the Flame Bats because, in her own words:
".....I dunno why it happened, really!! But I got cured, so I don't care!"
  • Large Ham: Has a flair for the dramatic.
  • Love Freak: Often sports Heart Eyes when seeing people act positively toward each other and supports romance whenever she can.
  • Meaningful Name: Yosafire is a demon who indeed can breathe out fire.
  • Playing with Fire: Yosafire can use green fire breath attacks.
  • Plucky Girl: She's rarely bothered by anything and very cheerful. You know things have gone south when she isn't acting that way.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Averted, despite having red eyes she's a really good-natured person.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The lively, impulsive red to Froze's blue, which reflects in their palette.
  • Say My Name: "Fuh-roooze!"
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Has eyes for no one but Fuh-roooooze.
  • Shipper on Deck: For Lowrie and Greif, given that she excitedly thinks they're on a library date when she sees them together. Also supports Kcalb and Etihw.
  • Super Drowning Skills: As seen in a Bonus Room video, she is unable to swim. May have something to do with her fire power...
  • Sweet Tooth: If you examine the coffee cup on her table, the narration will note that there is a lot of sugar and milk in there. She also has a particular fondness for Dialo's apple pies.
  • Wingding Eyes: In the form of hearts, though not all the time.
  • Winged Humanoid: As a demon, she has bat wings.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Has a fear of flying after an accident where she fell from the sky and has to rely on Froze to carry her through the skies. She overcomes it in a moment of urgency to save Froze's life.

    Froze
A stubborn, reticent angel and Yosafire's best friend.

"I love frozen yogurt..."

A female angel and Yosafire's best friend. She’s a stellar student trusted by even the God of her world.

    Macarona
A timid angel who knows how to brawl.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20465da8_abd4_4daa_9329_1bb62ff7bbfb.png
"I will get stronger!"

An incredibly timid and insecure angel, though her ability to handle rage has its limits. Don’t push it.

  • Berserk Button: Don't try to harm her friends. Emalf learns it the hard way.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: When sufficiently enraged, she loses it and starts punching people around her hard. She doesn't even remember it afterward.
  • Cowardly Lion: Very often afraid and on the verge of tears, but knows to get serious when it counts.
  • Cute Bruiser: Definitely a cute, shy girl, but she is also an excellent close-quarters combatant.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: One of her attacks consists of this.
  • Fist of Rage: Don't push her.
  • Glass Cannon: Macarona's strong on offense, weak on defense, and even has the lowest HP stat of the girls.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Poor Macarona has had a very tough day, what with getting imprisoned in a cell in another world and getting chased by flame demons. Emalf trying to kill her friends was the very last straw.
  • Lovable Coward: She's cowardly and often mentions being afraid, but she's a good friend and knows to fight her fears when it counts, which is exactly why people like her.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Usually mild-mannered until Emalf tries to kill Yosafire and Froze.
  • Say My Name: How she snaps Rawberry out of an unstable state when she finds that Rawberry slaughtered a group of bats about to hurt her sister.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's the most with-drawn of the group and also the most quiet one. Unless someone threatens her friends.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: To Emalf for hurting her friends.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Really teaches Emalf a lesson on how to treat girls after seemingly killing Yosafire and Froze. She even gets a boost in Attack and Defense afterwards.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She really doesn't like bugs and other creepy crawlies. Too bad Rawberry won't stop showing them to her.
  • Winged Humanoid: As an angel, she has feather wings.

    Rawberry Preserves
A demon who's just about always hungry.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1386b8e1_294b_46a6_b2f3_b20eb7d91171.png
"I'm hungry. ♪"

Always hungry, always chompy - this cute little demon will not hesitate to eat anything and by anything, we meant it. Better keep her at sleepy state...

  • Berserk Button: Don't hurt her older sister.
  • Big Eater: Thinks about food all the time and talks about how hungry she is, again all the time.
  • Creepy Child: Definitely the most creepy of the main team, not helped by her Horror Hunger. Some of her attacks also have her smile, and it's terrifying.
  • Creepy Good: If she wasn't good-natured, she could easily be a villain instead.
  • Cute and Psycho: Definitely cute and bubbly, when she doesn't talk about bugs or eating the flesh left behind by whatever she kills. Also considers flaming bats to be tasty, and her attacks are fond of showing mutilation and terror.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Sports them, which makes it easier for her to suck on enemies.
  • Expy: Replace Rawberry's habit for eating with a habit for destruction, and you've got Flandre Scarlet to a T.
  • Extreme Omnivore: She eats anything. Anything.
  • Fangs Are Evil: She's not evil per se, but she has no problem with biting enemies to suck their health.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: In a fit of rage, she eats Macarona in one of the bad endings and in Raspbel's Secret. She's also not above cannibalism.
  • Mighty Glacier: Very powerful overall but tends to be the last to attack.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: She's not stated to be a vampire, but she acts like one since she's fond of bats, can shapeshift, sucks enemies dry and has the whole looks of it. She has no problems with sunlight, however.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Is not easily fazed by most everything that happens in the story. In fact, she smiles even when asleep, which is quite often.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: In the bad ending where she eats Macarona.
  • Slasher Smile: Some of her attacks have her smile, and it's creepy enough to cause damage to enemies.
  • Sleepy Head: When she's not eating, she's dozing off, even during tense moments.
  • Theme Naming: Raspberry and Strawberry Preserves.
  • Token Evil Teammate: She's...a little more unpredictable.
  • Winged Humanoid: As a demon, she has bat wings.

    Dialo
A demon who is known for her apple pies.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/edf46e26_7a6a_4b4a_afa8_9a0959f11b1d.png
"...Quiet places are best."

A female demon baker and Chelan's best friend.

  • Chef of Iron: Who specializes in pastries.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Wears a nice black-white dress.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Wears these, though they don't symbolize anything except maybe her showing dissatisfaction at some of her friends' weird antics.
  • Glowing Eyes: They turn red when she's in the middle of making pie.
  • Horned Humanoid: Has two large horns on her head since she's a demon.
  • The Stoic: Is rarely moved much when weird things happen around her, though she does voice dissatisfaction sometimes.
  • Winged Humanoid: As a demon, she has bat wings.

    Chelan
A gentle angel who lives with Dialo.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8e5abfed_1bd0_4728_abe4_fefd38894bb3.png
"........♪ "

An always silent angel and Dialo's best friend. Whether she’s actually able to talk is left ambiguous.

  • Cute Mute: She never speaks. People still understand what she wants to express, however.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Though the creator probably didn't know this, Chelan is an actual name for boys.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Easily the kindest person of the whole cast with blonde hair to match.
  • Say It with Hearts: Or rather, music notes ♪
  • The Quiet One: Not just quiet, but mute (apart from the occasional music note).
  • The Voiceless: Never says an actual word in the entire game. Dialo appears to be the only person she seems to actually talk to, and Dialo then tells everybody else what Chelan says.
  • True Blue Femininity: Her clothes are all in blue and she shows many feminine traits.
  • Winged Humanoid: As an angel, she has feather wings.

The World’s Guardians

    Etihw
The benevolent god who created the world of the Gray Garden.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bdddbbe7_9448_49d2_9741_2280d0a650dc.png
"I think I'm happier when I'm napping than when I'm moving around."

The God of the Gray World and can be considered the most powerful being there. In the past, they fought in a war with their devil counterpart, Kcalb, for unknown reasons.

  • Ambiguous Gender: According to Word of God, Etihw has fundamentally no gender, but Etihw is sometimes referred to as female in the story. The August update switched the feminine prononouns to the gender-neutral they/their pronouns. The April Fool's Day game turns Etihw into a male, though.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Kcalb calls them Eti.
  • The Atoner: Mentions to Dialo and Chelan how ashamed they feel for their role in the great war and the destruction and death caused by their feud with Kcalb.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: A casual slacker and also the most powerful being in the game.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Comes back in the nick of time when Ivlis' reinforcements arrive after the final boss battle. Their presence is what convinces them to retreat, with one hell of a Death Glare to boot.
  • Big Good: Is the God of The Gray Garden and a very kind-hearted and friendly person. Kind of snarky, though.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Wears hair that barely goes beyond the shoulders, in line with not having a gender.
  • Broken Tears: In the Normal Ending, when almost everything and everyone is dead.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Twice. The first was at the end of the war when the world was destroyed by Kcalb and the second happens in the Normal Ending when Ivlis kills Kcalb and everyone in the Garden, turning it into a wasteland.
  • Distaff Counterpart: In Garden Gray The. The alternate Etihw is a little more obviously perverted.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Their past self had long hair down to their ankles, and they were much more serious back then.
  • Have You Seen My God?: Put out of action for a while when they get trapped in the Flame World and doesn't appear until near the end. Though seeing how they effectively force Rieta - the No-Nonsense Nemesis who has beaten two war veterans Wodahs and Alela near death - to retreat with their mere presence, it’s for the plot’s sake.
  • Healing Hands: They instantly healed Yosafire after being attacked by a flaming bat at the garden, and offered to do the same on Kcalb near the end of the game, although he himself refused it.
  • I Hate Past Me: Doesn't hesitate to refer to their past self as a "true fool", for starters.
  • Light Is Not Good: During the war, they were much colder and a lot scarier, apparently.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Kcalb.
  • Physical God: Created the Gray Garden world and its inhabitants, even "recreating" their deceased subordinates into young angels.
  • Power Floats: Etihw moves around by floating for the most part. In the past during the war however, Etihw stood on their own legs, so it’s unknown if they just got lazy or something really happened to their legs.
  • The Older Immortal: Being the World’s creator, they’re definitely older than any of the War veterans, including their former enemy Kcalb. They still tease him on his age, though.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Black hair, chalk-white skin, and overall very pretty.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: A Sunahama update stated that their sexuality is "Kcalb".
  • Sdrawkcab Name: White.
  • Stepford Smiler: Is heavily implied to be this.
  • The Slacker: Etihw've gotten a little lax with all the peace around.
  • The Tease: Enjoys flustering Kcalb.
  • Theme Naming: The white to Kcalb's black.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Much more relaxed and friendly compared to their past self.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Even after a war, compared to other gods, they are more innocent and naive on subjects like brutality and other-world negativity, and lack knowledge on many topics. Because of this, Etihw is overwhelmed when dealing with new and uncomfortable situations, such as being held in captivity and tortured, to the degree where they cry.

    Kcalb
The Gray Garden's Devil and lord of all demons.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2b642fad_2867_4bf8_880b_c34987f4b505.png
........

The devil of the Gray Garden and the older brother of Wodahs. In the past, he fought in a war with his godly counterpart, Etihw, for unknown reasons.

  • Aloof Big Brother: Towards Wodahs. Subverted in that Kcalb is guilt ridden for ruining Wodahs' right eye during the Great War, and unfailingly offers a remorseful expression each time he sees his younger brother's eyepatch. While they do share an unusual, business-like relationship, they still refer to each other with familial terms, and he entrusts the Wodahs in a great deal of duties and errands despite not directly being under his command.
    • Cain and Abel: Sort of. During the War, Kcalb attacked his brother and injured his eye, which is why he wears an eye-patch.
  • An Arm and a Leg: He gets his arm slashed off by Ilvis during their confrontation.
  • The Atoner: Like Etihw, he is ashamed of his actions during the war and wants nothing more than to repent for his mistakes, even with death.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: A really powerful person with a sharp black suit to match.
  • Badass Longcoat: Wears one over his nice suit to show he's not someone to mess around with.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Despite his non-confrontational personality, Kcalb is still a Devil and thus not an opponent to be taken lightly.
  • Butt-Monkey: Gets teased by most everybody.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: As revealed in an omake comic, so he has to drink juice instead.
    • Noodle Incident: Apparently he did... something to Etihw last time he got drunk. He has no recollection of this, and given that it's Etihw...
  • Coat Cape: Wears his coat in this manner.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: His current self, while the Lord of all demons, is just a well-meaning introvert who would go quite far to keep his subjects safe. His past self is a different story.
  • Distaff Counterpart: In Garden Gray The. Female Kcalb is more of a Type A Tsundere towards Etihw.
  • Death Glare: It sometimes looks like he's giving this constantly, but this is true when his eyes turn completely black.
  • Death Seeker: Blatanly tells Yosafire that she shouldn't bother with saving "the likes of him" and that in death, he will finally be able to atone for his past actions.
    • Redemption Equals Death: He thinks death will finally redeem him, but Yosafire convinces him otherwise, since according to her, he has done enough redeeming and is a nice person now, so he really should forgive himself. He agrees and finally gets over it.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Had a long thin ponytail in the past.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Gets teased about this by others, even by Etihw, who's older than him.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Implied in the past.
  • I Hate Past Me: The reason he's quiet and shy is because he's constantly thinking about how horrible he was in the past and wants to atone for it. Yosafire helps him with finally accepting the past as the past and getting over it.
  • Killed Off for Real: In the Normal Ending, along with everyone else except for Ethiw.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Etihw and, to a minor extent, Wodahs.
  • Longer-Than-Life Sentence: Was sealed underground by Etihw for who knows how long.
  • Luminescent Blush: Gets this when he's flustered, which is often.
  • Sdrawkcab Name: Black.
  • Slasher Smile: Which meant bad, bad news for poor Ivlis.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: He swings between grumpy, moody, and seemingly annoyed and fairly nice, if shy. Though either way, he's still easily flustered.
  • Sweet Tooth: Though he'll deny it. His Spear Counterpart in the April Fools' extra likes chocolate cake in particular.
  • Theme Naming: The black to Etihw's white.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After the war ended, like Etihw.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Subverted in the present, but appears to have been played straight in the past.

Etihw's & Kcalb's Subordinate

    Wodahs
Head angel and Kcalb's younger brother.

"...I want ochazuke."

The responsible and rational Head Angel. As one of the survivors of the Great War, he is powerful enough to be entrusted with investigating the new threat by himself, but it is greater than he could handle.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Wod.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: Relentlessly fights Rieta even until he's half dead.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: A close combat expert in a sharp black suit.
  • Badass in Distress: Has max stats (though you never get to use him in battle), but ends up getting captured by the flame demons and put out of commission for a while.
  • Berserk Button: Grora found out the hard way to not mess up his flower beds. Yes, he was nearly breaking her leg for accidentally falling into it.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Inverted, with female Wodahs in GGT being Kcalb’s younger sister. She still goes out of her way to threaten a God into apologizing to her sister for making her cry.
  • Blood from the Mouth: Has a hard time not barfing blood after a beating from Rieta.
  • Chef of Iron: Does the cooking for Kcalb and Etihw, while also being a good fighter.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: One of his many roles as Head Angel is to act as a restraining figure for Etihw and Kcalb to make sure they don't start another war, and also to keep general order around the castle.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Has this inflicted on him while captured by the flame demons.
  • Death Glare: Most notably at the end of "Hot Pot Party" when stopping Kcalb and Etihw from starting a war over food. His female self in Garden Gray The is no slouch either.
  • Distaff Counterpart: In Garden Gray The. "Busty."
  • Eyepatch of Power: Courtesy of Kcalb.
  • Eye Beams: In a comic by Mogeko, Yosafire is shown doing her trademark glasses beam, and proceeds to ask him if he can do an eyepatch beam. His answer was yes, to her surprise. Whether he's serious, we can't say.
  • Hidden Depths: As revelead in the bonus video "eyepatch siblings", he secretly resents Kcalb for having ruined his eye and enjoys the sight of his brother's guilty face.
  • Idiot Hair: Subverted, since while he sports it, he's far from being an idiot.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: He wields dual katanas as one of his weapons.
  • Keeping the Handicap: He could have had his eye restored by magic - but he gets a kick out of seeing Kcalb's apologetic face and reminding him of his guilt.
  • Number Two: To Etihw and his brother.
  • Only Sane Man: His basic role is to be this, so much so that Etihw reveals that in the past he said something to Etihw that made them "wake up" and realize how futile the war with the demons really was.
  • Psychotic Smirk: The only time we see him smile is in the video Eyepatch Siblings, where he has a dark smirk while explaining to Grora that he keeps the eyepatch because he enjoys seeing Kcalb look guilty about ruining his eye.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Subverted in that Wodahs is never seen to have won a single battle; from being ambushed and subjected to Cold-Blooded Torture to being beaten half-dead by Rieta.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: During the bonus scene "Hot Pot Party", he wears an apron with a bunny on it. The bonus room also reveals that besides cooking, he also enjoys gardening.
  • Sdrawkcab Name: Shadow.
  • The Stoic: Puts up with all the weird things happening around him, especially Kcalb and Ehtiw, without complaining. Most of the time, at least.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Ochazuke.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Grora.
  • Winged Humanoid: Feather wings, due to being an angel.

    Alela Grora

"Where's my eye? Where?"

An angel subordinate of Etihw and Kcalb, and one of the handful of survivors from The Great War.

  • Action Girl: One of the most powerful fighters of the game and seems to actively seek danger.
  • A-Cup Angst: Mogeko's artwork depicts her as being quite... jealous of female Wodahs's breasts.
  • Annoying Arrows: She can fire arrows, but they're not that strong, apparently.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: On her second time, she relentlessly fights Rieta even until she's half dead.
  • Berserk Button: Usually cool-headed, but she doesn't take kindly to people thinking she and Wodahs look alike.
  • Big Damn Heroes: How she's introduced.
  • Blood from the Mouth: Gets a beating from Rieta twice in the game, and has difficulty speaking a sentence without spewing blood.
  • Can't Hold Her Liquor: In the omake comic.
  • Distaff Counterpart: In Garden Gray The. Male Grora is more grumpy in comparison to regular Grora.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Wears an eye patch, since Ater gouged it out (whether by accident or not is not elaborated upon).
  • Eye Scream: Her eye was actually gouged out by Ater instead of only injured like Wodahs's.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Befitting her Action Girl persona, she wears them, too.
  • Idiot Hair: She's more on the straight-forward side and her hair matches that.
  • Keeping the Handicap: She could restore her eye by magic - but she wants to find her original lost eyeball instead of growing a new one.
  • Little Miss Badass: A 150cm tall girl who easily defeats a swarm of Flame Bats.
  • Ship Tease: There are some hints that she may have a crush on Wodahs, which her male self in GGT almost outright admits.
  • Super-Speed: In the time it takes Yosafire to traverse part of Daybreak Forest, Grora is able to run from Blancblack Castle, through Gray Village, past the Sea of Tears, past a wasteland, cliff, and graveyard while escaping from Rieta.
  • Super-Strength: Able to carry an injured Wodahs from outside Blancblank Castle to his bed on the very top floor with ease.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Wodahs, with some hints of some other feelings on her part.
  • Winged Humanoid: Feather wings, due to being an angel.

    Ater and Arbus
A pair of cat demons who serve Kcalb, though they never obey him.

Arbus (Left) and Ater (Right)

Kcalb's two cat underlings and each other’s twin sister. She is one of the handful of survivors from The Great War.

  • Badass Adorable: A pair of adorable cat demons who have maxed stats, a multi-target normal attack, are able to survive their encounter with Rieta without being heavily wounded, and effortlessly defeats Emalf's "ultimate" familiar within minutes.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Arbus.
  • Brutal Honesty: Particularly when they utterly destroy the "Ultimate" Familiar offscreen, and rather bluntly tell Emalf how easy it was.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Very odd, single-minded, and straight-forward... but also very powerful.
  • Cats Are Mean: Joyfully beat up the "ultimate" familiar Emalf was about to sic on Yosafire and the girls. Furthermore, Ater was responsible for Grora's missing eye.
  • Cat Girls: Their usual forms look like normal demon girls with cat ears. They can also shapeshift into regular cats.
  • Hime Cut: Ater.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: They reduce Emalf's "ultimate" familiar to Ludicrous Gibs within minutes.
  • Right-Hand Cat: To Kcalb, though they mostly just mess around and get yelled at by him.
  • White-Haired Pretty Girl: Ater.
  • Wingding Eyes: Arbus gets hearts in her eyes at one point.
  • Winged Humanoid: Being demons, they have bat wings. Seraph bat wings, to be exact, hinting at their high rank and equally high power.

  • Blush Sticker: Gets them in one CG.
  • Cool Teacher: In comparison to Greif, he's more laid-back and doesn't get mad about students forgetting their homework.
  • Foreshadowing: When his students ask him how he ended up in the Gray Garden, he mentions that he was brought there by the Devil of his world, since he was unable to fit in there due to violent angels, which is a hint to the true identity of the Passing Demon.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Based off a bird.
  • Idiot Hair: That's orange while the rest of his hair is black.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Greif catches a glimpse of his true self.
  • Stepford Smiler: Type C apparently, from the bonus video "Fellow Outsiders". Passing Demon is more acquainted with Lowrie's violent side and finds his usual smiling face to be offputting.

"Hmph.... you haven't seen the last of me."

  • Abusive Parents: He suffered at the hands of his abusive father.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Mogeko released a a short animation on their website called "The Sun's Curse" which explains his past. As it turns out, he was originally created by Siralos, the god of his world, as the first demon. However, when he became an adult, he begun to question Siralos's ways and ended up getting brutally beaten and later disowned by the latter. In fact, it is implied that the reason he wanted to steal Kcalb's power was to enact revenge against his "father" for abandoning him.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: According to Word of God, this is the reason why he views Rieta as a Living Emotional Crutch despite his Incompatible Orientation regarding her.
  • Big Bad: He's the person who starts the attack on The Gray Garden and sends his minions to cause chaos and destruction.
  • Black Comedy Rape: In the Mogeko comics, Satanick does... things to him from time to time.
  • Brought Down to Normal: The girls' first boss fight with Ivlis has them unable to deal any damage due to Ivlis having taken Kcalb's power. Kcalb eventually puts Ivlis in his place and takes back enough power to allow the girls to actually damage Ivlis in the second fight.
  • Butt-Monkey: As shown in Mogeko's art, when Ivlis is not plotting something, he's being Reficul and Satanick's personal plaything.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: According to Passing Demon/Reficul, at least.
  • Continuity Nod: His profile in the bonus room reveals that he has another child besides Poemi. Said child, Vendetto, later appears in another Mogeko game, Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea, as a minor antagonist.
  • Evil Is Burning Hot: As a villainous Flame Demon, this is a given. His whole realm is burning hot, too.
  • Fetish: Apparently scarves. Emalf is quite shocked about this.
  • Freudian Excuse: He actually used to be a nice guy before getting disowned and kicked out by his father.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: It turns out that his ultimate goal is to take down a pantheon of Jerkass Gods who victimize the people living under them, including his abusive father. Unfortunately, he decides the best way to do this is to invade the one peaceful realm and kill its leaders to steal their powers, hurting many innocents along the way and justifying it as dismantling a “fake peace” but ultimately becoming the same sort of tyrant as the ones he seems to overthrow.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: Even though Word of God has confirmed his homosexuality, Ivlis views Rieta, Yosefire, and Reficul as exceptions.
  • Informed Flaw: The Passing Demon/Reficul mentions him as a hopeless airhead. In-game, he never once did something stupid. Without Passing Demon's interference, he would have successfully absorbed Kcalb's power with no difficulty. Then again, Reficul is somewhat of an Unreliable Expositor.
  • Karma Houdini: Subverted. At first, it seems like he got away without any punishment after Eithw showed up and made him run away, but then the Passing Demon managed to catch up to him and teach him his lesson.
  • Playing with Fire: His main power is to control flames, so much so that his Underworld resembles the biblical version of Hell and that his two children were born from magical fire.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: Two of them, actually.
  • Villain Has a Point: The ending and spinoff comics give a lot of credit to his claim that the Gray Garden is built on a “fake peace”, and the people he wants to bring down are Jerkass Gods.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Has no problem with manhandling Yosafire.
  • Who's Laughing Now?: Part of the reason why he wanted to steal Kcalb's powers was to have a comeback at Reficul and Satanick, who endlessly mocked and insulted him. Which makes Reficul ruining his plans more ironic.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds/Well-Intentioned Extremist: Though he doesn’t seem like one at first, in the end, his motivation for killing tons of innocents, seeking to destroy the Gray Garden, and attempting to steal Kcalb's powers was because he wanted to take down a pantheon of warmongering, tyrannical Jerkass Gods and show them all up for laughing at him, from his abusive father Siralos to his demon “friends” Reficul and Satanick. Unfortunately for him, by the end of the game, he is Brought Down to Normal, and if Mogeko's comics are any indication, after the events of the game, Ivlis is still as miserable as he was before.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Want to take revenge on your abusive father who exiled you, and the “friends” who looked down on you? Let's go to a peaceful land and steal the powers of the most powerful Devil to teach them a lesson! But wait, four brave girls want to stop you from destroying their land any further? It's okay, with your new powers, you are invincible! Oh wait, is that their God, who has broken free from your grasp? And the Devil you took the powers from gets them back from you? And then you find out that the reason you lost is because of one of your friends who also bullies you? Not a chance, without the Devil's powers, you're once again useless!

"Should it be in the cards... May we meet again."

  • All There in the Manual: There is a lot of extra information about her and her family on Mogeko's website that is not present in-game.
  • The Bully: To Ivlis, alongside Satanick. Which makes her ruining Ivlis's plans all the more ironic.
  • Catchphrase: "Should it be in the cards... May we meet again."
  • Epic Flail: She uses one when she's teaching a lesson to Ivlis and his gang.
  • Fallen Angel: She's an analogue to the biblical Lucifer, including Sdrawkcab Name, and became the Devil of her world.
  • Friends with Benefits: With her right-hand man, Lzet the fly.
  • Happily Married: To her wife, Sin the naga, as depicted in Mogeko's art.
  • Meaningful Name: Her real name is Lucifer written backwards and it was revealed on Mogeko's website that she used to be an angel who fell for an unknown reason and ended up becoming the Devil of her world.
    • Though it should be noted that she is much, much nicer than the original biblical Lucifer.
  • Mystical White Hair: Sports long, white hair befitting her status of a Devil.
  • Psychotic Smirk: Before bullying the flame demons.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: She has red eyes and she never messes around; instead, she always fights seriously to make her enemies suffer.
  • Sdrawkcab Name: Lucifer.
  • The Stoic: Unfazed with whatever is happening around her and always moves toward her goals.
  • Winged Humanoid: Sports Seraph Bat Wings, implying she is high-ranking and incredibly powerful. Being an analogue to the biblical Lucifer, she really is both.
