"Hey, do you want to help us save the—? Okay, is making out all anyone thinks about in this place?"
Raz

Psychic Children from all over the world training at Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp - or so they should be. More pressing to the kids themselves are not the Evil Plan to Take Over the World, or even dreams of becoming Psychonauts, but rather, gossip and love drama.

Most of the information to be found on them comes from the Campster, fake Friendster accounts detailing, among other things, their ages and hometowns. The Campster was confirmed to be canon when Tim Schafer spoke about it during a conference on character design, and largely deals with what was going on with the campers prior to the start of the game.

  • All There in the Manual: Most of the campers' information, including age, hometown, Psi-Cadet rank, and favorite media can be found in their Campster pages.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Most notably Bobby and Benny, who are blue and purple respectively, but everyone's skin color is a little off.
  • The Cameo: Several of the kids show up as fragments in 2 in the camp section in the Fatherland Follies stage.
  • Cast of Snowflakes: All of them have very distinct designs, to the point of not even having consistent proportions or design rules.
  • Children Are Innocent: Averted. Bobby and Maloof both run protection rackets, many of the campers list PG-13, R, or NC-17 rated movies as their favorites on Campster, and most of them are obsessed with dating and kissing.
  • Creepy Child: Milka, who frequently uses her powers to snoop, is a standout example, but since they all have psychic powers and a tendency to act older than their age, they all qualify.
  • Dysfunction Junction: Two suicidally depressed cheerleaders, a bully with daddy issues, a kid who grew up in a brothel, a girl with precognition that foresaw her parent's affair... and that's not even counting the kid that makes heads explode.
  • Entertainment Above Their Age: Pretty much all of the kids list PG-13 or R-rated films as their favorites. Nils lists NC-17-rated films as his favorites. Likewise, their tastes in books and television also fit this trope.
  • Foil: To the Interns of the second game. Both groups serve as side characters for Razputin to interact with throughout the game, and both are captured at one point by a dangerous villain who need to be saved by Razputin. However, the Campers were a group of dysfunctional kids around Raz's age who were disinterested or less focused on Psychonauts training compared to Raz and Lili, and they mostly tended to be friendly at best with Raz, or just didn't care too much about him for the bulk of the story. They also were not willing to help out Raz even after he saved them from the villains, either due to being indifferent of the situation, or having very Skewed Priorities. The Interns by contrast are mostly older kids, who despite their eccentricities, tended to get along well enough with each other, are keen to take on real missions as Psychonauts, and initially don't think too highly of Raz at all. However, their opinion of him improves after the Casino Mission, and they end up aiding him several times throughout the story, including against the final boss of the game.
  • Gonk: Seriously, at least half the kids are borderline deformed and barely even recognizable as human beings.
  • It's Up to You: When the fate of the world is on the line, the kids are unconcerned with saving it and leave Raz to do it instead. Only a handful opt to do anything more than grant a little extra mental energy to you, and none of them are helping on the front lines.
  • Kids Are Cruel: Bobby likes to torment fish AND children, and Kitty and Franke are flat-out mean.
  • Most Writers Are Adults: Generally, the kids seem to be written as acting anywhere from actual age to late teenagers. Largely, this depends on Rule of Funny.
  • Psychic Children: All of them. Whispering Rock is a summer camp for psychic kids, after all.
  • Pint-Sized Kid: Despite most of them most likely being average, if a little below average, height, they're incredibly short compared to the 7-foot-tall counselors.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Most of the kids will have moments of acting much older than their age, though it's normally Played for Laughs.
  • While Rome Burns: The campers that decide to help out with saving the world are in the minority.
    Dogen Boole

Voiced by: Nika Futterman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dogen_med.jpg

"One time, I made someone's head explode. [...] Actually, it happened four times. Now they make me wear this special hat, so I don't have any more accidents."

A psychic with uncontrollable psychic powers with a mild obsession with hats due to the form of his Power Limiter (a Tinfoil Hat), Dogen is simplistic but nervous. He's the grandson of Compton Boole, one of the founders of the Psychonauts. Despite his several instances of, erm, head explosions, Dogen is a sweet kid who loves cute baby animals.

He is the first camper to get his brain stolen as part of the ploy to Take Over the World.

  • And Call Him "George": Dogen has a love of cute, small animals, like kittens and puppies, but when he gets stressed, things explode.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Borders on Blessed with Suck. He is described as being an INCREDIBLY powerful psychic by Milla, and Mikhail, the strongest of the campers and no slouch himself, admits he wouldn't want to fight him because of his absurd power. Problem is, Dogen has little to no control over his psychic powers, requiring him to wear a tinfoil hat to control them, and even then, he'll have a hiccup over his powers ever so often with messy results.
  • Butt-Monkey: His simpleminded nature makes him a prime target for bullying and his unstable psychic powers make him more Blessed with Suck than any of the others. He's also the first camper to be targeted for having his brain stolen.
  • The Cameo: He appears as a figment in Rhombus of Ruin and 2.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Early on, he is seen arguing with some squirrels claiming "I couldn't possibly... kill everyone." before blowing them up. When re-brained, he tells Razputin that he killed the squirrels for saying "The tiny man is going to kill everyone." Turns out they were referring to Coach Oleander, not Dogen.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: He's a little odd, which more or less ties into his mental issues. He has a fixation on hats and seems to be rating the ones that the other kids wear. On Kitty's Campster profile, he goes off on a random tangent about how he loves kittens even though he got ringworm from one once.
  • Creepy Child: Dogen's a sweet kid, but his quiet nature coupled with him killing a bunch of squirrels because he thinks they're lying to him is meant to be a little unsettling (in a funny way, at least).
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Milla, who is a professional psychic superspy, refers to him as an incredibly powerful psychic. However, he can't really utilize his powerful psychic abilities without accidentally killing other people.
  • The Ditz: A nice kid, but slow on the uptake and prone to misinterpretation.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: More like the family that never hangs, but he doesn't talk much about his grandfather or his sister because they were likely not conceptualized as characters yet..
  • Heroic Lineage: He's the grandson of Compton Boole, one of the founders of the Psychonauts.
  • Identical Grandson: As seen in the second game, he looks like a smaller (and hairless) version of his grandfather Compton.
  • Innocently Insensitive: To Clem on Campster. Doubles as Hypocritical Humor.
Dogen: But no matter what I do, Clem says I won or I'm a winner, even when I know I haven't won. So I think he might be a little... not too smart maybe.
  • In the Blood: His sister Sam and grandfather Compton all have the ability to communicate with animals. He also shares Compton's issues with anxiety and his blastokinesis abilities.
  • Noodle Incident: When Raz tells Sam he met Dogen, the first thing she asks is "Whose head did he blow up this time?".
  • Power Incontinence: Made manageable by a tinfoil hat Power Limiter. Without it, he's been known to cause accidental head explosions.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: He can communicate with squirrels. It's not made clear if this is via verbal communication or telepathy.
  • Tinfoil Hat: He wears one, partly because yes, he does hear conspiracies (from squirrels, no less), but also it's supposed to function as a Power Limiter.
  • Your Head A-Splode: Oh yeah. "Blastiokinesis" is even listed as his psychic specialty.
    Bobby Zilch

Voiced by: Doug Giorgis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bobby_zilch.png

"Hey new kid. Welcome to camp. You're dead meat."

A veteran of Whispering Rock, Bobby is the camp bully with Benny as his Dragon, and, armed with his age, size, and penchant for violence, he organizes protection rackets, beats up other kids, and is generally a Jerkass to everyone at camp. He immediately tries to enforce the social hierarchy on newcomer Raz, and when Raz bites back, Bobby marks him as a high-priority target, and spends the majority of the game trying to get in his way.

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Bright blue!
  • Ambiguously Related: Bobby's bright blue skin and serious daddy issues, coupled with Dr. Loboto's reveal in 2 that he had a kid he left behind in Whispering Rock, point to Bobby being Dr. Loboto's son, but the relation is never outright stated.
  • Bad Boss: Regularly threatens to beat Benny up.
Bobby: I pay by the pound. And speaking of pounds, maybe you better shut up unless you want some right now.
  • The Bully: Along with Benny.
  • Bullying a Dragon: He attempts to pick a fight with Mikhail in the parking lot. Mikhail then proceeds to demonstrate why mocking one of the strongest kids at camp is a bad idea.
  • The Cameo: Appears as a figment in Rhombus of Ruin and 2.
  • Expy: He's visually inspired by Scut Farkus from A Christmas Story.
  • Freudian Excuse: He's implied to have major daddy issues, as most of his Campster movie picks deal with themes of abusive or missing fathers, not to mention that he tears up when Ford credits Raz's father with imbuing Raz with the qualities that make him a good Psychonaut. It's very telling that he demands Raz admit that since Raz never had his brain stolen, he thinks he's better than Bobby. Even though Raz is obviously humoring him, it appears to be a psychological victory for Bobby.
    Bobby: HA! You admit it!
    • Given that his father is heavily implied to be none other than Dr. Loboto, his daddy issues are magnified by the fact that his father was the one who stole his brain.
  • Funny Afro: It's about half as tall is he is and screaming bright orange. Raz once says he looks like cotton candy.
  • Gonk: In a series filled with incredibly bizarre characters with highly unusual proportions, Bobby seems designed to be especially nasty-looking in comparison with his crooked teeth, needle-like proportions and cartoonishly huge afro.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: True, he's a total ass, but he's very nice to his crush Chloe, opting to help her with her radio rather than help prevent the Evil Plan or bully Raz some more. He also states on Camper that everyone's fair game... except her.
  • Jerkass: Runs protection rackets for dream fluffs, regularly threatens to beat up even his own dragon, tortures fish on the docks? Yeah, he's a jerkass, alright.
  • Kids Are Cruel: The player gets to see him not only harassing the other kids but torturing fish on the camp docks.
  • Look Behind You: Used to bully Raz during the obstacle course.
Bobby: I'm not stupid. You're stupid. The coach is stupid. The whole camp is stupid. That thing flying at you is stupid.
Raz: What's flying at me? [he turns to look; Bobby punts him off the platform]
Bobby: Ahahahahaha! Bobby Zilch's foot, that's what!
  • Metal Head: Big time. Most of his favorite bands also have songs dealing with daddy issues.
  • Morality Chain: Has one in the form of his crush, Chloe. On Campster, she's capable of getting him to rescind threats and play nice.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: He has several photos of roadkill on his Campster, and he loves violent, gory horror movies.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever happened to him in the GPC was so traumatic that he has a Freak Out when shown a button that came from it. When asked about it, he only states that it "reminds me of a bad place. That's all."
Bobby: No! Don't put me back in there! Please! I'll be good!
  • One-Steve Limit: Psychonauts 2 introduces the Psychic Six member Bob Zanotto, who is sometimes called "Bobby" in the story. There's also an NPC in the Motherlobe named Bobbie.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Seen on Campster.
Bobby: Understand, rubber band? I'm the boss, applesauce.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: Given how the tears are shaped, likely invoked by Bobby himself via ripping them off.
  • Those Two Guys: With Benny.
  • Trauma Button: Literally. Whatever Sasha did to him in his lab, it certainly was not pleasant, briefly having a panic attack when he sees the button Sasha gave Raz.
Bobby: GAH, NO! DON'T PUT ME BACK IN THERE, PLEASE! I'LL BE GOOD!
  • Victory Pose: A little dance of his that later Raz adapts as his own. (This dance also has a cameo in another Double Fine game, Brütal Legend.) According to Tim Schafer, it's something he and his siblings did as children.
    Benny "The Nose" Fideleo

Voiced by: Bill Tanzer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/benny_fideleo.png

"Hey, slow down, new kid. If you pass me or Bobby you'll make us look bad, and Bobby will pound you deaf."

The Dragon to Bobby Zilch, but not exclusively - Benny is more than willing to ditch Bobby for any bigger villain to swim his way. However, due to his love of musicals and the fact that Parma, Ohio, his hometown, is famously safe, it's largely implied Benny only wants to be evil for the glamor of it all, and doesn't understand what real brutality is like.

  • Air Guitar: When he's initially rebrained, he stays in the observation cell playing air guitar. He eventually leaves.
  • Ambiguously Gay: On his Campster page, he lists his interests as being with "Bullying, Musicals, and Bobby".
  • Animal Motifs: Elephants, given his nickname, large ears, and skin tone.
  • Camp Straight: If he isn't Ambiguously Gay, he's this, as his favorite book largely seems to detail many, many sexual encounters between Burt Ward (of Batman (1966) fame) and women. Lots of women.
    • He also says his "ears are burning" when pyrokinesis is used on him, taking it to mean that Kitty must be talking about him, implying a small crush on her.
  • The Chew Toy: Bobby shoves him and threatens to beat him up on the regular, and Maloof and Mikhail go after him first, and it's ALWAYS funny.
  • Cowardly Sidekick: When Bobby isn't around, Benny's courage quickly shrivels up, causing him to quickly wheedle and beg for whoever's threatening him to not hurt him. This is best seen when Bobby outpaces him during Basic Braining and leaves him behind, and when a newly confident Maloof sics Mikhail on him.
  • The Dragon: As mentioned, to Bobby Zilch.
  • Ironic Nickname: His nickname is "The Nose", but he doesn’t appear to have one, while his enormous ears go completely uncommented on.
  • Jerkass: You've got to be able to maintain a certain level of jerkassery to keep up with Bobby and enjoy it.
  • The Quisling: He tries to defect to Coach Oleander's side after he has his brain restored, asking Raz if Oleander is looking for a lickspittle.
  • Those Two Guys: With Bobby.
  • Villain Song: Writes one for Bobby. It's...pretty bad.
    Chloe Barge

Voiced by: Brett Pels

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chloe_barge.png

"I would like to speak to whatever cosmic entity has been sending me these voices to my head since I was a kid. And visit that entity if possible."

Chloe is an alien girl, trapped in a camp for suspected extra-terrestrials - or so she believes. Her proof is that she has been hearing faint voices supposedly coming from space ever since she was a child, but the jury is out on whether it's really aliens, or if she's just psychic.

She spends the game largely dismissive of Raz, who she views as a distraction and annoyance to her quest to build a working rocket, but her Campster reveals that she's quite nice and supportive. She spends a lot of time considering who she can take with her to space, and who's to be left behind.

  • Alien Among Us: If her story is to be believed. Her face under that helmet is somewhat fishy-looking...
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: She doesn't seem to mind Bobby's crush on her and, though she views Raz as an annoyance, she lets Bobby help her call for help using the Coach's radio after being re-brained.
    • Her love of hardcore rappers is also an example of this.
  • The Ark: Chloe mentions that "rad dudes" like Quentin should be on it, when it happens.
  • Ambiguously Human: On the one hand, her face looks inhuman under her helmet, but on the other, her brain looks just like a human's.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Her very first reaction when Raz briefs her on the situation the camp's facing is to try to page for help... from outer space.
    • Extends to some of her other fantasies regarding aliens, including her Noah's ark ship, or wondering if Crystal and Clem's energy can be somehow harnessed as fuel.
      Chloe: Zool!
Lili: Is that good or bad, Chloe?
Chloe: Not sure. I just wanted to — ZOOL!!!
  • Fantastic Anthropologist: If she is an alien, her interest in elimiDATE definitely qualifies.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid: Subverted: she tells Raz after being re-brained that she will use the Coach's radio to call for help but she specifies that she's wired it up so it broadcasts into space and talking to her afterwards reveals she's trying to pick up a ride off the planet since Earth is a "goner".
  • Hidden Depths: Chloe's Campster reveals that she's really into hardcore rap.
  • Morality Chain: Is one to Bobby, forcing him to curb his bullying on Campster.
  • Parental Substitute: If her story is to be believed, her human parents are this.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Once her brain is returned, she tells Raz that she's trying to hitch a ride into space so that she can leave if Oleander's plot suceeds.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Chloe wears a bow under that helmet.
  • The Xenophile: If she's actually a human.
    Clem Foote

Voiced by: Andy Morris

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clem_foote.jpg

"Well, I guess if peoples' love was something you could trust, we wouldn't be here now, would we?"

One half of the cheerleading duo, Clem is SUPER-POSITIVE, SUPER-ENERGETIC, and SUPER-DEPRESSED. His annoyingly cheerful façade masks a crippling, suicidal depression - poorly. His father, at least, is verbally abusive, and his positivity/self-help schtick is him trying to fake it 'til he makes it.

Clem is the more eloquent and intelligent of the two, and takes on more of a caretaker role to Crystal when she's feeling down. He also tends to be more passive-aggressive, playing the Straw Nihilist to Crystal's Wide-Eyed Idealist.

  • Abusive Parents: His dad. His mom seems to live with them, meaning she's a complacent bystander at best. It's mostly played for laughs.
Clem: My dad says I'm a total idiot when it comes to canoeing. And most other things. He said he'd rather ride a seal into a pool of sharks than ride in a canoe into a lake with me.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: Tries to do this, but...see Straw Nihilist below.
  • The Cameo: Appears as a figment in 2 — alongside Crystal, of course.
  • Cheerful Child: Subverted. He's clearly trying to be one, but his depression and cynicism get in his way.
  • The Dividual: Clem is never seen without Crystal in-game, and his first thought after being re-brained is to go running to her. Their differences become more apparent on Campster.
  • Driven to Suicide: His father is abusive, his mother is either complacent or worse, and he lives in Gary, Indiana, which is known for being a ghost town in the making as the steel industry disappeared and with it, most of the city's income. In addition to that it's implied that he's bitter about being a weak psychic.
    • The message boards scattered around the camp mention that they've been bullied and taunted for years due to their attempts to bring cheer. Clem is the more vindictive of the two, claiming that everyone "will be sorry" in his message.
  • The Insomniac: Has noticeable dark circles around his eyes. Likely a symptom of his depression.
  • Interrupted Suicide: His joint suicide with Crystal by jumping off the roof of the Main Lodge was interrupted by the brainwashed Linda. Their earlier attempt, with poison, is interrupted by Raz.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Cynical and suicidal though he might be, he clearly cares deeply about Crystal and tries his best to cheer her up and comfort her.
  • Kids Are Cruel: Invoked.
Clem: They are ants, Crystal. Cruel, cruel little ants.
  • Meaningful Name: "Clem" is usually short for the name "Clement," meaning "merciful" - which is exactly how he describes death.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever happened involving sharp objects that made it so they weren't allowed to handle sharp objects anymore. Implied to be another suicide attempt.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: "Clem" is the shortened form of several names, but none of the longer forms are ever given.
  • Stepford Smiler: Of the depressed variety.
  • Straw Nihilist: His favorite book is No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre, a famous existentialist work. His rants on life and love tend to end on dour notes.
Clem: Some of our hearts are big, and some are small, and some of them are dark, and still, and stopped beating long ago, and yet somehow we manage to slog through this shadow puppet theater day in and day out, waiting for the merciful velvet curtain of death.
  • Suicide Pact: Has one with Crystal. It never seems to take, though.
    Crystal Flowers Snagrash

Voiced by: Colleen O'Shaughnessey

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/crystal_flowers_snagrash.jpg

"My brain hurts all the time too! So bad that sometimes I just want to die! We should form a club!!!"

The other half of the cheerleading duo, Crystal is a sweet girl that tries to see the best in everybody, and wants nothing more than to spread cheer and joy throughout the camp. Unfortunately, this naïveté often leads to getting hurt, which doubles back into her crippling depression.

Her hometown - Peoria, Illinois - is known for being haunted, and, indeed, Crystal seems to have some tie to the occult, as their suicide has a ritualistic flavor that can't be explained by Clem's influence. She is the Wide-Eyed Idealist to his Straw Nihilist, and believes that committing suicide will make her more powerful.

  • Ambiguously Human: A few campsters are subject to this, but Crystal stands out with her orange skin and the strange shape of her face.
  • Came Back Strong: Believes suicide will lead to this.
  • The Cameo: Appears as a figment in 2 — alongside Clem, of course.
  • Cheerful Child: Subverted. Even though she is cheerful, it doesn't take much to bring her crashing down.
  • Creepy Child: Her ties to the occult, and the ritualistic nature of "The Project" likely being due to her influence, mark her as one of these more than Clem.
  • The Dividual: She's never seen without Clem, and they're often treated as a single, annoying, cheerleader unit. Their differences become more pronounced on Campster, however.
  • Driven to Suicide: Her home life, unlike Clem's, is never mentioned, though she does say her "brain hurts" so badly she wants to die - which may indicate an outside or genetic factor. Could be the Psitanium.
    • The message boards scattered around the camp mention that they've been bullied and taunted for years due to their attempts to bring cheer. Bobby, especially, likes to single out Crystal as a target on Campster since she's extremely gullible.
    • She also suffers from extreme insecurity/self loathing, as she has a Freak Out when she makes a bad rhyme and starts calling herself "stupid." Again, it's unclear whether this was instilled in her due to abuse, or if an external factor like genetic predisposition or Psitanium poisoning is at play.
  • Embarrassing Last Name: Crystal Flowers Snagrash.
  • Interrupted Suicide: Her joint suicide with Clem by jumping off the roof of the Main Lodge was interrupted by the brainwashed Linda. Their earlier attempt, with poison, is interrupted by Raz.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Thinks that Coach Oleander is nice. Not only is Coach Oleander not very nice, he's the Big Bad.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever happened involving sharp objects that made it so they weren't allowed to handle sharp objects anymore. Implied to be another suicide attempt.
  • Precision F-Strike: The only instance of the f-word in the entirety of the series canon belongs to Crystal on Campster.
  • Stepford Smiler: Of the depressed variety.
  • Suicide Pact: Has one with Clem. It never seems to take, though.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Unlike Clem, who's trying to fake it 'til he makes it, Crystal genuinely wants to bring cheer and joy to the rest of the camp.
    • Also applies to their suicide. Since Clem's existentialism is at odds with the idea that suicide will make them stronger, it's likely that this is Crystal's ideology, and he's just going along with it.
    Elka Doom

Voiced by: Victoria Hoffman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elka_doom.png

"Oh, Nils. What happened between us? I don't understand. I saw the future and we were together. My predictions are never wrong!"

Gifted (or cursed) with precognition by her bloodline, Elka is a stuck-up, love-obsessed girl with a fixation on Nils. Her preoccupation with him - and the lengths she'll go to for his attention - are so extreme that even he calls her "crazy." Her current ploy is Operation: Jealousy, using her relationship with J.T.

A leaked production document reveals that her power can only predict bad things, and, with it, she predicted that one of her parents would have an affair over the summer. This power has always historically gotten Elka's family into trouble, and now, she is no exception.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: To both Nils and J.T., due to all her crazy.
  • Alpha Bitch: She has the trappings of one, but in a summer camp setting she doesn't have as much power as a school version.
  • Blessed with Suck: She can see the future... but only bad things, including the fact that one of her parents is going to have an affair over the summer.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Flat-out tells Chops that he can't see J.T. now that she's dating him.
  • Cursed with Awesome: On the other hand, her parents revel in bad news, so up until the affair prediction, they saw Elka's powers as nothing but a good thing.
  • Deathbringer the Adorable: Elka Doom is an eleven-year-old girl.
  • Doomy Dooms of Doom: Again, Elka Doom. It also plays into the fact that her precognition is aimed at disasters.
  • Freudian Slip: Accidentally lets slip Nils' name when talking about the "great future" she sees together with J.T.
  • Love Triangle: Elka likes Nils, and J.T. likes Elka (or, at least, won't say no to dating her). Elka deliberately invokes this to get Nils jealous.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Dating J.T., getting rid of Chops, all to make Nils jealous.
  • Meaningful Name: The Dooms can predict disasters.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Elka Doom has disaster-predicting powers to match.
  • Operation: Jealousy: She's dating J.T. in a ploy to make Nils jealous.
  • Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: Nils calls her "crazy". No one wants to get in the middle of her tirade on Nils' Campster page.
  • Seers: The entire Doom bloodline can predict the future.

"Milka, you have shown me that you're never too old to change. You saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I'm found. Was blind, but now I'm kissing."

Raised in a brothel, though Elton himself doesn't realize it, his father was apparently a "sailor in the navy" and that's why he never comes home to visit. Elton himself is aquaphobic, but can talk to fish. He has a crush on Lili, but that crush is quickly replaced by a relationship with Milka once she successfully scares Bobby and Benny away from harassing fish on the docks.

Nervous and awkward, Elton doesn't have a strong grasp of social cues, and misinterprets Lili's radio silence as complicit agreement to their nonexistent relationship. Prior to Maloof's arrival, Elton was the most bullied kid at camp.

  • Berserk Button: Saying Lili is pretty seems to cause Elton to freak, which Maloof tries to blackmail him for.
  • Dastardly Whiplash: If Clairvoyance is used on him, he sees Raz as this, presumably because Raz is "stealing" Lili from him.
  • Irony: Elton is the son of a sailor and can speak to fish, but he is afraid of water.
  • No Social Skills: Thinks he and Lili are in a relationship even though she's ignoring him, borders on stalker-ish territory regarding knowledge of Lili's personal life, and accidentally sends her a page on plant sex when trying to bond with her over plants.
  • Official Couple: With Milka by the end of the game.
  • Son of a Whore: Heavily implied by his Friendster profile, though he doesn't seem aware of it.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Elton's special psychic power is that he can talk to fish.

"Hey, look! I've got an ugly face! Can I join your ugly club?"

Kitty's best friend and one-girl fan club. While she, herself, admires and tries to play into Kitty's Alpha Bitch tendencies, she's not exactly the brightest, and so she tends to come off as the "nicer" of the two.

  • Ambiguously Gay: Her Campster profile heavily implies that she is a lesbian; her favorite movie is gay, her favorite show is gay, her favorite book was written by a lesbian, and her favorite band came under fire when it turned out they WEREN'T gay. Her hometown is Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which was also named the #1 city for lesbians in 2001 by Girlfriends magazine. To top it all off, she lists her sole interest as her best friend Kitty, and the two of them both list their relationship status as being in an open marriage. Within the game itself, though, she just comes across as Kitty's ditzy follower.
  • Beta Bitch: She's essentially defined entirely by being Kitty's orbiter.
  • The Bully: She's mostly following Kitty's lead, but she is still a bully.
  • Dumb Is Good: Well, she's certainly nicer than Kitty is.
  • Evil Redhead: More like a bratty redhead, but still.
  • Girl Posse: A one-woman example.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Maybe. Franke loves pedicures, friendship bracelets, and Kitty Bubai.
  • Official Couple: Maybe. Kitty and Franke are both listed as being in an "open marriage" on Campster, and the rest of Franke's profile heavily implies her to be a lesbian. In the game itself, though, they don't appear to be anything more than friends.
  • Satellite Character: Pretty much defined entirely through her relationship with Kitty.
  • Those Two Girls: Kitty and Franke are only nice to each other, and always appear together.
  • The Vamp: While her attitude doesn't fit, she's certainly using her feminine wiles to get Vernon to do her homework for her.
  • While Rome Burns: Kitty and Franke are giving themselves manicures while Coach Oleander is attempting to conquer the world with an army of brain-operated death tanks.
Raz: Wanna help me save the world?
    Kitty: Ummmmm... No.
Raz: Wanna help me save the world?
    Franke: Ummmmm... No.
    Kitty Bubai

Voiced by: Brett Pels

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kitty_bubai.png

"Hey, look! My dad's poor, and I was raised in the circus. Can I join the Psychonauts?"

The head Alpha Bitch at camp, Kitty Bubai is rich, pretty, and mean. Her father was in the Navy, but got kicked out - so she's finally able to settle down. She doesn't like Raz and makes it known immediately, insulting him first chance she gets.

She's currently using her powers of "confusion" to get Quentin to like her, though she seems to take little notice of him beyond that.

  • Alpha Bitch: The camp's token bitchy queen bee, though her Girl Posse only consists of Franke.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Like Franke, her Campster profile lists her favorite media as being things with lesbian themes, such as Xena: Warrior Princess, but she also shows overt interest in Quentin. Her profile also states that she's interested in "making friends" with both men and women, while her interest in "confusion"-based psychic powers may be a sort of Stealth Pun on the subject. Like Franke, though, there's no suggestion of her orientation anywhere within the game itself.
  • The Bully: On the girls' side.
  • Costume Porn: Several clips in X-formations and a small green bow, likely in pursuit of a Harajuku/deco kei aesthetic.
  • Excessive Evil Eyeshadow: Kitty has noticeable green eyeshadow under her eyes, and her Campster's "About Me" section is one big list of all the makeup she uses.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Kitty has spiral eyes, though it's unclear if these are natural or contact lenses. Either way, she's the one doing the Mind Control, not the victim of it.
  • Frivolous Lawsuit: Kitty threatens this on Raz's family.
  • Interchangeable Asian Cultures: Played with. Kitty is obviously of Asian descent, but her Campster biography keeps her origins very vague, listing multiple Asian cities as her hometown. Though there is a reason for that, as detailed below in Really Moves Around.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Her favorite book is How to Win Friends and Influence People, and she's manipulating Quentin for sure.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Refers to Raz as "Spaz".
  • Meaningful Name: Quentin Hedgemouse is being toyed with by Kitty Bubai.
  • Military Brat: From her profile: "thank god dad finally got kicked out of the navy"
  • Mind Control: Possibly the true form of her "confusion" specialty; it's currently being used on Quentin to turn him lovesick for her.
  • Official Couple: Maybe. Both she and Franke's Campster profiles list them as being in an "open marriage", implicitly with each other. Within the game itself, though, there's no suggestion that they're anything other than friends.
  • Really Moves Around: Her Campster bio lists six cities as her hometown with the implication that her family moves around a lot because her dad is/was in the Navy. She seems to have settled down in Bakersfield.
  • Rich Bitch: Apparently rich and definitely a bitch.
  • Spoiled Brat: Very good at using people to get what she wants.
  • The Tease: Tries to be this to Quentin, but he doesn't seem to be especially interested.
Quentin: But how about that J.T. though, eh? I heard he can hog tie a calf in 10 seconds.
Kitty: Hmmm. I could get into that.
    Quentin: Whoa... Uh...
  • Those Two Girls: Kitty and Franke are only nice to each other, and always appear together.
  • Uncanny Valley Makeup: Kitty wears green eyeshadow and lipstick, and has noticeable patches of blush. It's likely this is in pursuit of a look similar to her favorite band, and Harajuku/deco kei fashion as a whole.
  • The Vamp: Is using her powers to get Quentin to like her, for an unknown reason.
  • While Rome Burns: Kitty and Franke are giving themselves manicures while Coach Oleander is attempting to conquer the world with an army of brain-operated death tanks.

"Stand back, greenhorn, or yer gonna git a nasty hotfoot."

J.T. is a Cowboy, through and through. All those good ol' fashioned Southern values of hospitality and chivalry, packaged under a bandana and a 10-gallon hat. He loves ropin', ridin', and playin' the harmonica. JT is an expert at marksmanship, though for some reason, has never gotten the official badge.

He and Chops are Heterosexual Life-Partners, though J.T.'s relationship with Elka is threatening to ruin that. However, due to his Extreme Doormat tendencies, it takes Elka pushing him to the edge before he retaliates by breaking up with her.

    Maloof Canola

Voiced by: Brett Pels

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maloof.png

"I have a sentimental weakness for you, Raz. But you talk when you should listen."

A crybaby and weakling, Maloof is the most bullied kid at camp. He's the favored target of Bobby and Benny, but Kitty and Franke get in on it, too. This all changes, however, when Mikhail steps up to defend him, whereupon it's revealed that Maloof is kind of a jerk.

His favorite media include The Godfather, The Sopranos, and SpongeBob SquarePants, and he styles himself as a benevolent version of The Don, offering Mikhail's protection from bullies... at a price.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He's a crybaby and a weakling, but even before Mikhail is on his side, he's seen on Campster blackmailing other campers.
Maloof: Elton is usually nice, but once I told him I thought Lili was pretty and he got really mad at me. Elton, I will forgive you if you let me have 3 dream fluffs. And for 2 more dream fluffs, I won't tell Lili what you said.
  • Butt-Monkey: Rather thoroughly subverted later on.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Is totally fine with letting Mikhail "half-kill" Benny for all the bullying Benny did to him.
  • The Don: He sees Raz as this with clairvoyance, but he also begins styling himself after a benevolent version of one once he has Mikhail's strength under his control.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Starts off as the most bullied kid at camp, ends with the strongest fighter at camp on his payroll. While he seems to be playing the part of a crusader for justice, his Pay Evil unto Evil and Disproportionate Retribution tendencies tend to overshadow the good he's doing.
  • It's Personal: Has something against jocks for some reason.
Maloof: Someday, all jocks will pay.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: He basically threatens to have Mikhail kill Benny, but Benny kind of deserves it.
  • The Mafia: It's implied Maloof's family is this, though he may just be modeling what he's seen in The Godfather and The Sopranos. He's seen having Mikhail wire a bomb to Coach Oleander's car, claiming "this is how we take care of things in my family".
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: His modus operandi.
Maloof: A lot of things are going to change around here, Razputin. A power shift. Some big figures are going down. Some new stars rising. For the meek, justice. For the abusers of power, wedgies and Indian burns.
  • Spoiled Brat: A large part of why no one's stood up for him before Mikhail is that he's so well-known for being a crybaby that even "nice" campers like J.T. and Phoebe think he cries too much, and needs to learn how to stand up for himself.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: He acts like a hardened mafioso, complete with using Mikhail as his muscle and blackmailing people.

"Chloe likes me because I come down to this place from a cold, mostly empty world where the beings talk funny. It's called Canada! HAHAHA! See? We can make fun of ourselves. We're not all sensitive about it."

J.T.'s main hombre and Canadian as all get-out, Chops likes hockey and playing acoustic guitar. He's generally down-to-earth and relaxed, and is one of the nicer kids at camp, one of the few that offers to actually help Raz during the crisis, offering to patrol the camp.

Most of the game, however, is spent caught up in drama between J.T. and Elka, as he tries to rescue his best friend from Elka's clutches.

    Mikhail "Misha" Bulgakov

Voiced by: Mark Ivanir

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mikhail_psychonauts.png

"Instead of beating up bears, I get to beat up anyone who picks on Maloof. Unbelievable, no? And he's not even charging me."

Hailing from Kazan, Russia, Mikhail likes four things: bears, wrestling, wrestling bears, and bears wrestling. He has a strong sense of justice, but is kind of oblivious to the world outside his bear-wrestling sphere, and tends to miss obvious details.

Later on, after intervening between Bobby and Maloof, Mikhail becomes Maloof's bodyguard/enforcer. The whole time, though, he's looking for a "giant, hairless bear" stalking around camp, and would appreciate if you could point him in its direction.

  • Amazon Chaser: Mikhail, as implied by his movies, which almost invariably feature strong female characters. He also tells Raz he has no interest in girls unless they are good wrestlers.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Looks out for Raz and Maloof, recognizing that they need protection from other campers. He spends time with Maloof teaching him how to use his telekinesis to protect himself.
  • The Big Guy: He's both physically taller than just about every other camper and psychically stronger than most of them. He even implies that he's used his signature "Deadly Nelson" to kill before. It's maybe Kayfabe... Maybe.
  • Blood Knight: Every single comment he leaves on Campster is about how he'd take down the camper in question in a fight. Every single one.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Way too obsessed with fighting.
  • Bully Hunter: "Bullying now forbidden. All bullies acknowledge, please."
  • Captain Oblivious: Is not aware of Maloof's reputation as a Spoiled Brat or Bitch in Sheep's Clothing. He just thinks he's getting to hunt bullies for free.
  • Combat Pragmatist: His Campster posts are filled with pragmatic, "playing dirty" moves, such as using Quentin's scarf against him, or picking Crystal up by the ponytail and throwing her out of the ring.
  • The Dragon: Becomes this to Maloof. Mikhail himself isn't aware of Maloof's Bitch in Sheep's Clothing tendencies, however.
  • Funny Foreigner: Has a thick Russian accent and is generally more interested in wandering the fringes of the woods looking for bears to fight than interacting with the other kids.
  • Genre Savvy: When it comes to pro wrestling, at least. His bear wrestling schtick at least seems to be partially a "character" he plays. He also takes into consideration advancement in the career.
Mikhail: Then again, as he is crowd favorite, maybe I pretend to hurt my ankle and throw match so as not to damage long range career goals.
  • Heel: Misha most often seems to see himself playing the heel in his Campster posts, noting that he might throw a match against fan-favorite J.T..
  • Hidden Depths: His Campster profile has a picture of Zangief on it, and aside from him just liking Zangief due to him being a Russian pro-wrestler, he might be into video games despite his jock-ish personality.
  • Insistent Terminology: The proper way to shorten his name is "Misha", NOT "Micky".
  • Meaningful Name: Taken directly from a Russian playwright famous for The Master and Margarita.
  • Mind over Matter: His specialty. He displays it against Bobby and Benny at different points in the game and is seen teaching Maloof to use it on fish.
  • Mother Russia Makes You Strong: In his case, a strong psychic, as he's not at all Husky.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: His name comes from the Russian novelist Mikhail Bulgakov.
  • Professional Wrestling: Mikhail is a huge fan.
  • Shaped Like Itself: He explains the "Half-Deadly Nelson" move is like "Deadly Nelson", but less deadly. How much less deadly? By half.
  • Signature Move: The "Deadly Nelson", which is deadly. He also has the "Half-Deadly Nelson", which is less deadly. By half.
    • He also lists a move called the "Telekiliminator" on Campster.
  • Unabashed B-Movie Fan: All his favorite movies are B-Movies.
    Milka Phage

Voiced by: Lara Jill Miller

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/milka_phage.png

"Sometimes I'm watching you, Franke. And you don't know it. But I know. I know everything."

Milka is extremely skilled at Invisibility, and uses it both to snoop and to avoid people she would prefer not to deal with, like Raz. Though she may come off as a Shrinking Violet, she's actually extremely forward on Campster, both towards the people she likes and the people she doesn't.

She has a vision that tells her that she and Elton belong together, and, shortly afterwards, strikes up a romance with him, which involves a lot of kissing. A LOT of kissing.

  • Abusive Parents: Her mom says "mean things" to her unless she's invisible, since Milka's face looks like her husband's. Milka herself doesn't seem to mind much, but she prefers it when her mom isn't mean.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: She hardly speaks to Raz, but she threatens to bury the camp bullies in the lake.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: After she and Elton hook up, she leaves a note on the bulletin board threatening Lili, Elton's former crush, to stay away from him.
  • Creepy Child: Her quote is a good example.
  • Disappeared Dad: Implied by her favorite movie, Hollow Man. Her face also reminds her mom of her dad in a bad way.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Tells Kitty, Franke, and Lili that if they continue to bully Elton, she'll drown them in the lake.
  • Dysfunction Junction: Milka looks like her dad, so her mom asks her to be invisible. It's the only way for them to hang out without her mom saying "mean things" about her. Milka herself doesn't seem to mind much, however.
  • Invisibility: Her specialty.
  • Invisible Introvert: A quiet, shy camper who uses the Invisibility skill to disappear when Raz approaches her, a skill honed due to her mother saying she was "hard to look at" due to her resemblance to her dad.
  • Invisible Jerkass: Uses her invisibility to snoop. She's not actively mean, but she will let you know that she knows what you're up to.
  • Mood Whiplash: On Lili's Campster page, Milka tells Lili she threw her homework into the lake, threatens to put her, Kitty and Franke (who she calls hos!) in there if they mess with Elton again... and then she does a complete 180 and compliments Lili's skirt.
  • Mysterious Animal Senses: Her cat can still see her while she's invisible.
  • Personality Powers: She's The Quiet One and a snoop and her specialty is Invisibility.
  • The Unfettered: On Campster, she will say what she wants to who she wants to, without hesitation. Probably because of the Invisibility thing.
  • The Quiet One: She barely talks to others in the game. It's possible to go a whole playthrough without ever hearing her talk.
  • Wild Child: Accused of this by Kitty and Franke due to her tendency to disappear into the forest sometimes to "just chill."
    Nils Lutefisk

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nils_lutefisk.jpg

"Um, excuse me, but my parents let me watch R-rated movies, so I think I know a little bit more about this than you do, okay?"

A self-admitted uncharismatic guy, Nils loves ladies and Lamborghinis and gets neither. Hailing from Long Beach, California, Nils is well-off and entirely undesirable.

He's caught Elka's eye, and according to her, they're destined to wind up together. They actually start the game having already broken up, but he ends up with her in the end, as long as she promises not to talk.

  • All Men Are Perverts: Nils definitely is. He seems to feel camaraderie with other guys in camp, even if it's not reciprocated.
  • Casanova Wannabe: Hits on every girl that moves, can't get a date with any of them.
Nils: But you are the girl model of whatever it is you are, right?
    Chloe: Affirmative.
Nils: At this point, that's totally close enough.
  • Cool Car: Tim Schafer confirmed Nils likes cars.
  • Dirty Kid: His favorite movies are different installments of Girls Gone Wild, which is essentially softcore porn. Raz can also find him plotting to spy on the girls' cabin.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He's absolutely girl-crazy, but even he thinks that Elka is just regular crazy.
  • Handsome Lech: Compared to the rest of the kids, Nils is relatively attractive. He's also a huge pervert.
  • KidAnova: He would if he could, but no one seems willing to date him except Elka, and she's crazy.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Living in Long Beach probably means he's probably pretty affluent, but he has no friends at camp because of the way he acts about girls.
  • The Peeping Tom: Tries to spy on the girls' cabin through clairvoyance. This is also his Establishing Character Moment since it's the first thing you see him actually doing once you're in control of Raz.
    Phoebe Love

Voiced by: Crystal Scales

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/phoebe_love.png

"Look, you know when I have a good solo going, sometimes things get hot. I can't help it."

The drummer for The Firestarters/Levitators, Phoebe has a fire problem that she totally swears is under control now and a deep love of psychology.

The rest of the camp is very aware of the totally "not-a-problem-anymore" and give her a wide berth, even in spite of her definitely being one of the cooler kids at camp.

  • All Drummers Are Animals: Played with. On one hand, Phoebe is one of the nicest and chillest girls at camp, but on the other, she's got a fiery temper.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Milla was the one who told her not to burn kids anymore. Kids and fire are a particularly bad combination for Milla, after all.
  • A Good Name for a Rock Band: Phoebe prefers "The Firestarters", while Quentin prefers "The Levitators".
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Quentin ribbing her about the name "The Firestarters" is enough to make Phoebe mad enough to set some bugs on fire.
  • Hipster: Hails from Portland, Oregon. Ironically, Quentin fits the trope better.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Phoebe wants to name the band "The Firestarters", and occasionally talks about using her, only semi-controlled, pyrokinetic talents to create pyrotechnic displays. But if someone else talks about fire, she gets offended and claims they're being insensitive to her issues.
  • Kill It with Fire: When Phoebe loses her temper, things burn.
  • Noodle Incident: That time she melted Quentin's records with an "unplanned pyrotechnics display".
  • Personality Powers: She's a pyrokinetic with fire-powers.
  • Playing with Fire: Pyrokinesis is Phoebe's specialty.
  • Psychological Projection: Tends to do this when trying to psychoanalyze other campers.
Phoebe: Chloe, we all feel like aliens from time to time. [...] It doesn't mean we should run away, or "blast off" or "burn things." Even if they are just small things that nobody wants, it's important not to burn them, even if you really really want to see what happens to it when it burns. Do you see what I am getting at?
  • Pyromaniac: But it's under control. At least, until she gets mad. Or has a good solo going.
  • The Shrink: The well-meaning but ineffectual variety. Phoebe tries to play psychologist with almost everyone on Campster, but she frequently lapses into Psychological Projection or Wrong Genre Savvy.
  • Those Two Guys: With Quentin.
    Quentin Hedgemouse

Voiced by: Sherrie Jackson

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/quentin_hedgemouse.png

"Hey, how can you tell there's a drummer at the door? [...] The knocking speeds up!"

The DJ for The Levitators/Firestarters, Quentin is one chill dude. He's the only camper Phoebe can't set on fire, since she's got a "mental block" when it comes to him, and it gives him leeway to tease her that other kids don't have.

He's really good at levitation and is one of the nicest kids at camp, not to mention being well-off and not too bad to look at, making him quite popular with the ladies. May or may not be under Kitty's "confusion" to like her.

  • all lowercase letters: His Campster messages are written like this.
  • Cheerful Child: He's super relaxed, easy to get along with, and finds good in everyone. What's not to like?
  • Chekhov's Gun: Quentin asks Phoebe if she ever had a nightmare with a bathtub in it. In Raz's nightmare, there is indeed a bathtub, which represents taking the children across the lake to get de-brained in Oleander's Evil Plan.
  • Chick Magnet: Comes with being a relatively chill dude with more conventional good looks.
  • Genius Ditz: He's kind of airheaded, but he's got the highest possible Psi-Cadet rank.
  • A Good Name for a Rock Band: Quentin prefers "The Levitators", while Phoebe prefers "The Firestarters."
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Quentin can't sing.
Phoebe: That's not even a song, dude. That's like a weird slowjam.
  • Jive Turkey: Speaks in "soft hip-hop".
Quentin: We don't really have any songs yet, but when we do it's going to be killer. Kill-er. You will freak out on its dopeness.
  • KidAnova: A much better one than Nils. Milka and Kitty are both interested in him, and he's one of the rare few that Lili is willing to hang out with. Other guys at camp comment on how popular he is with girls.
  • Meaningful Name: Quentin Hedgemouse is being toyed with by Kitty Bubai.
  • Think Happy Thoughts: Levitation runs on this, and Quentin's specialty is levitation.
  • Those Two Guys: With Phoebe.
  • Totally Radical: Going with his Jive Turkey tendencies. The only reason why this wouldn't apply is that, apparently, Scott C., the art director, actually talks like that.
    Vernon Tripe

Voiced by: Faith S. Abrahams

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vernon_tripe.png

"But sometimes, I'm just saying...sometimes maybe the harmonica jam sessions at the campfire go a liiiiittle long, is all I'm saying. Sometimes somebody's got a really good story they want to tell, but they can't because it's all harmonica, harmonica, harmonica, and I think honestly, just a tip — people would like to hear maybe more stories, less harmonica."

The most annoying kid at camp, Vernon claims to descend from storytellers all the way from caveman times. This is probably an exaggeration, but even if it isn't, he has a love of storytelling anyways, even if everyone else wishes he didn't.

He owns a dog named Lady, and he'll go on about her forever if you let him - literally. Franke is currently taking advantage of his gullible and simple nature to get him to do chores and homework for her.

  • Animal Motifs: Refers to himself as "the mongoose"... during a game of hide-and-seek.
  • The Bore: He's not just a storyteller, he's a thorough storyteller and remembers every tooth-grinding detail about his stories to the point where he can go on for quite literally forever because he refuses to cut the fat and just get to the end already, constantly repeating himself and going off on tangents, completely glossing over any part that veers even close to sounding interesting. His near-monotone droning voice doesn't help.
  • Captain Oblivious: Doesn't realize Franke is not interested and that their "secret" relationship is just her taking advantage of him, or that the "aliens" that tricked him into taking off all his clothes and climbing the flagpole were Bobby and Benny playing a prank. If he's rebrained before her, he'll be pleasantly surprised she's letting him get closer than usual.
  • Character Filibuster: Played for laughs. He will literally keep talking forever about walking his dog if you let him.
  • Creepy Monotone: A droning monotone, as befits a natural storyteller. Not creepy by itself, but Raz mistakes him for one of the lobotomized campers, simply because there's no discernible difference between their brainless monotones and Vernon's natural voice. It doesn't help that Vernon doesn't realize anything's wrong and is happy to have a captive audience, so he plays along with their zombie-like groaning for "teeveeeeee" and "haaaacky-saaaaack".
  • Dirty Kid: He's excited by the idea of going skinny-dipping with the girls.
  • Giftedly Bad: Vernon loves telling stories and believes he's a fantastic storyteller. He is really, really not.
  • Hated by All: The other campers can't stand him, to the point Elka actually predicted he would "annoy everyone at camp" on the bus ride over.
  • Mad Libs Dialogue: In the tutorial level, he'll tell Raz a very, very boring story about the time he went to walk his dog. All of the dialogue of that story consists of various lines picked at random.
  • Meaningful Name: "Tripe" is a term to describe when someone's words are worthless, which is an adjective that can be easily applied to Vernon's boring and meaningless stories.
  • Naked People Trapped Outside: On Campster, he mentions a supposed "alien encounter" (actually Bobby and Benny) telling him to climb on the flagpole take off his clothes, which he does. This results in him getting laughed at by the other kids when they see him naked. Comments on Crystal's profile also tell a story of him getting tricked into skinny-dipping alone and then getting his clothes stolen by Benny.
  • Overly Long Gag: His stories go on forever. Literally, in the case of the one about walking his dog when you first meet him in Basic Braining, an endless randomized listing of every turn and momentary stop, punctuated by digressions about falling down a manhole or getting chased by bees.
  • No Social Skills: Finds Elka in hide-and-seek, gets punched, keeps playing anyways. He also doesn't believe her when she predicted he'd annoy everyone else at camp, and, well...
  • The Storyteller: Vernon styles himself as one and claims he's descended from storytellers on his Campster. Unfortunately, just because it's something he likes to do doesn't mean he's very good at it.
  • Super Gullible: He's an easily-tricked kid.
