     As a whole
  • Aliens Are Bastards: Almost all the aliens are nationalistic, prideful, power-hungry bastards who think nothing of splattering blood to further their agendas. Earl believes his planet can't do anything wrong and encourages Kento to abandon his empathy to help bring it backnote , Catine and Judela only crave political power, and the Famed In-Story Generals pledge allegiance to Kloppen once they're told that Kento is a clone. The Zaal Empire are Galactic Conquerors that ravage planets and leave social hierarchies to keep people fighting between themselves, and the Helios Empire has a long history of oppression and humans rights abuse that only the Royal Family knows. Even minor planets such as Marios practice slavery, and the Princess of Proxia tries to murder Kento once she realizes he's no use to her. Notable exceptions to this trope are Harlin, Ramos, Gascon, Melipole and Palmillion, and even the last one is ambiguous as he must have known about the clones of the Helios Empire.
  • Aliens Speaking English: They all speak in perfect Japanese despite being aliens. Somewhat justified in the case of Harlin, who, while an alien, was raised by a Japanese couple.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil:
    • The Royals of Helios and Zaal are the Greater Scope Villains of the anime as they priorirized their own interests at the expense of innocent lives (Helios with the clones, Zaal with anyone who didn't pledge loyalty to them). Even Proxia, which for most of the story isn't involved in the war, has a Princess who's a Rich Bitch.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Boy, does this anime love this trope. Catine wants to marry Kento not because she loves him, but for the throne, General Neshia pretends to be a human woman to gain access to Ochame, and the Helios Empire were thought to be victims for most of the story until it was found out they created the Zaal by abusing their clones.
  • Fantastic Racism:
    • Dr. Earl is a Racist Grandpa variant. He is a father figure to Prince Harlin/Hayato Tate and a grandfather figure to Kento and the kids. Out of all of them, he treats Kento with importance since he's an Alien Prince, while looking down on the rest of the kids and deeming them "burdens". Many episodes show that he has warmed up to them, he just won't admit it.
    • Princess Catine of Proxia also hates humans, except Kento, because he's descended from Emperor Palmillion and she wants to marry him for the throne. When she finds evidence that contradicts his Heliosian heritage, she becomes angry and spurns him.
    • The Heliosian Generals led by Gascon hate clones, and when they're told Kento is one, not only do they defect to the villain's side, but one spits on Kento. In fact, clones are so hated, that even if all the alien planets are at war, they all agree that clones are to be looked down upon.
    • This is actually the main motive of the Greater-Scope Villain of the series, who was on the receiving end of it: Emperor Dolmen was born a clone of Emperor Palmillion. Being groomed from a young age to take his place should he ever die, Dolmen was forbidden from leaving his jail cell, tortured whenever Palmion was injured and treated like a lowly slave by the retainers of the Helios Empire. One day he snapped, had the Helios Empire massacred, and aimed to rule the galaxy. Even as he dies, he gives Kento one final Dying Declaration of Hate and tells him that the generational trauma and wrath of the clones will always live on. Prince Harlin, however, establishes a Republic where all beings are equal, and makes laws where clones are given equal rights, defying Dolmen's words.
    • If there's one thing the Heliosians, the Zaal, the Proxians and the other aliens can agree on, it's that clones are subhuman.
  • Human Aliens: The people of planet Helios resemble humans, while their Zaal counterparts are more monstrous-lookingnote . The Proxians are also rather human-looking.
  • Planetary Nation: Most planets are ruled by a single monarchy. Helios in particular went through great lengths to preserve this.
  • Schizo Tech: Both Helios and Zaal have made such great breakthroughs in technology that they can turn ordinary animals into mechanical monsters. They can also travel through space on a whim, track down people a planet away, and create Super Robots.
  • Sufficiently Advanced Alien: All of them are significantly more advanced than Earth, which leads to some (such as the ones from Proxia and Zaal) to look down on it.

Helios Empire (エリオス帝国)

A kingdom that existed on the planet Helios. Before the events of the series, it was destroyed by the Zaal Interstellar Empire. Some survivors, like Prince Harlin and Dr. Earl, fled to Earth, while the other survivors were scattered across the planets.
    In general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/heliosempire.png
The flag of the Helios Empire
  • All Planets Are Earth-Like: Planet Helios is rather Earth-like except the Heliosians have more advanced technology than the Earthlings. This leads some of them to view humans as primitive.
  • Asshole Victim: The Helios Empire created clones with the sole intention of sacrificing them at the alter when the time was right, including Dolmen and Kloppen.
  • Awful Truth: The Helios Royal Family are a bunch of cruel bastards who selectively bred and engineered a whole bloodline of clones to ensure their political power wouldn't be taken away, even if it meant confining them to their prison cells for their entire lives, maiming them to ensure they were exactly like their originals and killing them if they outlived their usefulness. The reason they fell wasn't because they were innocent people who happened to be victims of the Zaal, it was because the Zaal Empire was led by vengeful clones they had mistreated, and they wanted Revenge.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: Many Heliosians, fearing the wrath of the Zaal, committed suicide to avoid a Fate Worse than Death at their hands.
  • Clone Army: Each member of the Royal Family has a clone of their own - for Harlin, it's Kloppen, for Palmion, it's Dolmen. Due to the fact that the clones were treated badly, Dolmen rebelled and created his own empire.
  • Conveniently Close Planet: When the Helios Empire was destroyed, Earl was able to conveniently locate Earth as a refuge and take Prince Harlin with him there. Thanks to Heliosians being Human Aliens, Prince Harlin would grow up on the planet oblivious to his alien heritage until adulthood.
  • Crapsaccharine World: Unbeknownst to the masses, underneath the exterior of glamour and nobility of the Helios Empire exists a dark secret - the sacrifices of clones. At some unknown point in history, the Empire began manufacturing clones every time a member of the Royal Family was born. This was done to keep the bloodline intact, as well as to ensure that the Royal Family always had a heir. From cradle to grave, the clones were forced to surveil their prototype's life from their prisons. If the prototype was injured, the clone would be forced to receive the exact injury. If the prototype died, the clone was sent in their place. If an organ transplant was needed, the clone was harvested. When the clone outlived their usefulness, they would be eliminated to make way for the new successor. No matter what, the clones were simply puppets of their senior vassals. These facts were a secret known only to the royal family, and the oppression of clones was a common practice in Helios. This secret was so well kept that even Earl and Harlin didn't know of it.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Literally. The clones bringing Helios's downfall was likely inevitable, as the empire frequently tortured them, harvested their organs, and treated them like second-class citizens. It's not known when this practice started, but it's implied to have been the standard for centuries. Dolmen even lampshades that even if Daltanious kills him, as long as clones exist, their wrath and generational trauma will always exist. Harlin, to avert this, passes laws forbidding the discrimination of clones when he becomes crowned King.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The way the Helios Empire treats clones is similar to how Nazi officers and members of the SS treated Jewish people in concentration camps, from isolating them to prison cells, forcing them to endure extreme torture and killing them off once they outlive their usefulness.
  • The Empire: Formerly. The Zaal Empire tore them down as revenge for centuries of oppression.
  • Fantastic Caste System: Enforced. The Helios Empire created the clones for the purpose of serving the Royal Family's interests, which meant also subjecting them to cruel torture to keep them in check. Hatred of clones was rampant across many different planets, to the point that when Harlin/Hayato was suspected of being one by the Kingdom of Proxia, he was abandoned and offered to the Zaal.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture:
    • With their Western-sounding names and poofy wigs, they draw some parallels to the United States of America (pre-revolution). They also force another group to work in indentured servitude, maltreating and abusing them as they please (until they're finally granted equal rights after a war).
    • One of the founding fathers of America was Benjamin Franklin. Benjamin Franklin was offered regency by the British, but rejected it in favour of an independent American nation). He was also an outspoken critic of slavery and advocated for abolition. Similarly, Prince Harlin was offered regency as the true son of Emperor Palmillion, but chose to reject it in favour of forming a new nation, the Galactic Federal Republic. Harlin condemned the treatment of clones (who were treated to the slaves, having no rights and often abused by their masters) and wanted universal equality.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Had they not maltreated their clones, none of Daltanious would have ever happened.
  • Hidden Backup Prince: The role of the clones is to be a backup for the Royal Family in case they die. They are trained their whole lives to replace them, or until they suffer organ damage.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Emperor Dolmen was also one of these clones. Out of resentment for being oppressed as a clone of Emperor Palmion, he built the Zaal Empire and eventually destroyed the Helios Empire.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: Many Heliosians were fervently patriotic to their nation and chose to die alongside it as it fell.
    • Downplayed in the case of Earl, who still wanted the Helios Empire to rise from the ashes and exist once more after even after learning of the Awful Truth, unlike Harlin who was shocked at their brutality and decided to let them stay finished for good. While he's disappointed at the Prince's choice, he respects it nonetheless.
  • Puppet King: Some of their clones served as figureheads for the Heliosian Royalty, and were disposed when they were no longer needed.
  • Succession Crisis: The Helios Empire feared that one day, they would lose their heirs to outside influence. To avert this, they began producing clones of the Royal Family every time a member was born and trained them to follow in their footsteps.
  • Theme Naming: The Royals tend to have names that end with "-en".
  • Would Hurt a Child: Dolmen recalls his childhood under The Helios Empire being filled with blood-curdling words and deliberate torture to ensure that he would be the perfect clone of Palmion.
    Earl

Earl (アール博士)

Voiced by: Toshiya Sugita (Japanese), Dario De Grassi (Italian), Elbio Nessier (Latin American Spanish)

A former senator of the Helios Empire and the scientist who developed Daltanias. He also guided Prince Harlin for a short while on Earth, before setting them both to sleep for fifty years.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/earlw.jpg
Earl
  • Babysitter's Nightmare: All the kids in general, but Kento in particular. As the pilot of Daltanious and future Emperor of Helios, Earl tries to get the boy to take his duties seriously, only to be rebuffed and mocked each time. Kento addresses Earl as "Old Man" whenever he's speaking to him and often responds to him with "whatever!"note
  • Big Good: He's the opposite of Dolmen, and wants a world free of Zaal tyranny.
  • Calling the Young Man Out: He does his best to steer Kento into being an ideal Prince and diplomat, despite Kento repeatedly stating that he has no interest in it. His repeated rebellions against Earl cause them to butt heads.
  • Cool Old Guy: While Kento disrespects Earl, Manabu idolizes him because of his immense knowledge and becomes his assistant. Sanae also views him as such.
  • Crusty Caretaker: He manages the Adalus base and always has a sour demeanor.
  • Fantastic Racism: He only cares about Kento for his Alien Prince factor and looks down on his friends for being ordinary humans. In episode 4, he reveals the rooms he has for them - Kento's is exquisite, lit by a studded chandelier, draped in tapestries of many colours, has a throne and , while the others have one that doesn't even have a lightbulb and is covered in cobwebs. Not only is it much smaller in size, but it's also expected to house six people. Manabu straight up calls it discrimination, but Earl insists it's the norm. Kento, being Kento, grins and happily accepts this, much to their anger.
Earl: "Your origins are different from that of Prince Kento's! You cannot have the same treatment!"
    • A large part of Earl's Character Arc is overcoming this and eventually becoming attached to the children of Adalus Base, even if he won't admit it. By the end of the series, while his sense of nationalism towards Helios still remains, he's happily accepted that Harlin won't bring back the Helios Empire and formed a tight bond with the kids.
  • Jerkass Realization: Earl is touched when he's told that the children of Adalus base (and the ones in the neighborhood) look up to him as a Cool Old Guy. This is the first step of him abandoning his backwards beliefs on non-Heliosian humans, and he becomes a much nicer guy afterwards.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Downplayed. When him and Harlin departed from Helios to Earth, he set up his cryo-sleep device to awaken them both in 50 years. Somehow, this malfunctioned, and Harlin awoke much earlier than he should have. He was found by a kind Japanese couple who gave him the name "Hayato" and raised him as their own. He grew up believing himself to be of Japanese heritage like his parents, and forgot his memories of being born as the Prince of Helios. He only found out the truth when as an adult, his ship was wrecked and he was saved by a fellow Heliosian who told him of his true heritage.
  • Human Popsicle: Earl's cryo-sleep device had him be one for over 50 years.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Earl states many times that he doesn't care about the fate of the Earth and Helios takes priority. Over time he grows a heart and learns to have compassion for both nations.
  • Lack of Empathy: Big time. Earl often prioritizes pragmatism in combat and the mission to save Helios over morality. For example, when Beralios felt saddened about having to fight his lover, Meralion, Earl suggested that Beralios be reprogrammed to forget her. He's called out for this by Kento.
    • He also regularly suggests abandoning the children of Adalus Base when they're in danger and deems them "distractions" to Kento's mission.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite initially critisizing Kento for searching for the Team Pet, when they eventually do locate him, he jumps with joy.
  • Older and Wiser: Earl is the eldest of the main cast ( in fact, he's over a century old) and the one who invented Daltanious. This is contrasted by the young Manabu, who's a pre-teen genius and creates upgrades to the robot.
  • Old Retainer: Earl was a Heliosian senator who served the planet's Royal Family as a scientist. When the planet was invaded by the Zaal, Emperor Palmillion ordered Earl to take his son, Prince Harlin, and flee to the Earth. Earl agreed and took the boy to safety, but even after Harlin mysteriously disappeared, Earl never stopped holding out hope for a reconstructed Helios and was elated to find Harlin's long-lost son and last descendant of Palmillion, Kento Tate.
  • Racist Grandpa: Earl doesn't hide the fact that he looks down on non-Heliosians, even if they're ones that respect him like Manabu. It takes a lot of time for him to break out of this mindset and even then, he's prone to slipping up and going back to his old ways. For what it's worth, he's supportive of Harlin establishing the Galactic Federal Republic and helps him govern it.
  • Resentful Guardian: Downplayed, but he's fed up with Kento's bratty behavior and frequently criticizes him for not being like his father.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: A rare heroic example with Dr. Earl's frustration with the hijinks of Kento and his gang.
  • This Cannot Be!: When Namil claims that Harlin was a clone of Kloppen, Earl refuses to believe it and exasperatedly grabs his head. He's so shocked he even contemples ending his mission, but pulls through in the end.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Earl is aghast when he sees that his old friend Dr. Namil (who was once loyal to Emperor Palmion) is now working with the Zaal Empire and a confidant of Kloppen. Earl repeatedly refuses to believe his claims of Kloppen being the true Prince of Helios. It turns out that Namil was lying all along and Earl was right to be skeptical.

    Prince Harlin (Spoilers)

Prince Harlin (ハーリンは), Hayato Tate (楯隼人)

Voiced by: Motomu Kiyokawa (Japanese), Vittorio di Prima (Italian), Ricardo Lani (Latin American Spanish), Qingchuan Yuan (Hong Kong Cantonese)

The father of Kento and the heir to the throne of Helios, before it was destroyed by the Zaal Empire. Formerly presumed to be missing after a shipwreck, he was alive all along and now works with Kento to bring justice to the victims of Grand Emperor Dolmen.

Current
  • Alien Among Us: When Earl and Harlin fled Helios to Earth, Earl programmed his cryo-sleep device to awaken both of them in 1995, so that they could fight the Zaal invasion in time. Unfortunately, a malfunction happened in the device and Harlin awoke much earlier than he should have, in 1945, while Earl remained asleep. Prince Harlin (then three years old) escaped his ship and began wandering the mountains, where he was found by a Japanese kite painter, Kazuto Tate. Kazuto decided to adopt the boy and named him Hayato. Due to his young age, he forgot his Dark and Troubled Past, and believed he was an ordinary Japanese boy. However, he would freqiuently have vivid dreams of his memories of his birthplace, the Planet Helios, which he chalked up to Hallucinations, until as an adult, Melipole told him the truth.
  • Alien Prince: Of the Helios Empire. Unfortunately, he was forced to flee the planet with Earl when the Zaal Empire invaded.
  • Blue Is Heroic: He wears blue and is the only ruling Heliosian monarch to recognize the struggles of the clones and treat them fairly.
  • Dub Name Change: Prince Arlin in the Italian dub.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When he learns the truth of the Helios Empire - that it was a fascist empire built on the sacrifices of innumerable clones - he's disgusted and decides against bringing it back. Instead, Harlin gives rise to a new nation where everyone is equal.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change:
    • His hair was longer when he was Made a Slave, but after reuniting with Kento, he shaves it into a short man-bun.
    • He cuts his hair again near the end of the series, lopping off the man-bun in favour of a more dignified look.
  • Expy: Of Gohl from Voltes V, as they're both Princes and heirs of their respective empires and they both fled to Earth where they have made new lives as Kentaro Go and Hayato Tate respectively. Both also seek to end the discrimination and promote equality to all. They even share the Manly Facial Hair too as well. However, the difference is that while Gohl claimed his rightful place on the throne of the Boazanian Empire, Harlin chose to let the Helios Empire remain history and instead establish the Galactic Federal Republic after learning the horrible dark truth of the said empire he was heir to.
  • The Good King: Rejects bringing back the Helios Empire because of their cruelty.
Harlin: "The universe shouldn't be governed by one man, but all the people who live in this universe."
    Kento: "Awesome! That's my dad!"
  • Good Twin: He couldn't be more different from Kloppen if he tried.
  • Happily Adopted: When he was three years old, Kazuto found him wandering in the mountains alone. Realizing the boy must have been an orphan, he took him in and named the boy "Hayato". Unbeknownst to Kazuto, the boy was no ordinary human - he was Crown Prince Harlin of the Helios Empire.
  • Hallucinations: As a child, Hayato would often receive vivid visions of another world, but didn't know where they were from. These were actually his memories of his true home, the Helios Empire. He became a sailor so that one day, he could find the mysterious place that frequently appeared in his mind.
  • Human Popsicle: When he was three years old, Earl put him into cryo-sleep for his own safety. Unfortunately, he awoke much earlier than he should have.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father:
    • Harlin, the long-lost Prince of Helios, is Kento's father. However, he didn't know this until after he was an adult.
    • Since Kloppen is his clone, that means he was made from Harlin's DNA. Depending on how you read this, he's either his brother or his son. This was somewhat hinted at due to their similar appearances, but confirmed for good in episodes 41/42.
  • Made a Slave: He was temporarily made a slave on the Planet Marios, but he took the opportunity to make friends and escape together.
  • Nice Guy: He is a benevolent person, even in the darkest of situations. His kindness attracts many to befriend him. He's even kind to Kloppen, telling him that he doesn't view him as an enemy even though he's his clone.
  • Nice to the Waiter: Harlin/Hayato treats people with respect no matter what their class is. He tells Toragoro that there's no need for formalities between them, and is also eternally grateful to Earl for everything he's done for Kento and the kids.
  • No One Could Survive That!: When Kento was four years old, Hayato went missing during a shipwrecking accident, leading the Tate family to presume he drowned. Afterwards, Kento's grandfather Kazuto became the prime paternal presence in his life and helped his mother raise him and his sister. Hayato was actually saved by a fellow Heliosian, Melipole, but enslaved on Planet Marios later. In Episode 31, the cruiser he captured was sunk by the Zaal, but he also survived that and came back seven episodes later.
  • Older Than They Look: Despite his youthful appearance, he's 53. His youthful appearance is a result of spending time in cryo-sleep.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Kento tells him his mother and sister died, Harlin's usually happy and upbeat demeanor takes a serious turn as he stares at the supermarket they used to live in and manage. Harlin stares at it sadly and whispers words of apologies to Kimiyo and his daughter.
  • Politically-Active Princess: After the death of Dolmen, he abolishes the monarchy and establishes a federation. He also takes an active role in making sure clone discrimination never happens again.
  • Princess in Rags: Literally. On Marios, he's clothed in hideous rags.
  • Rightful King Returns: Eventually. However, there's a bit of a twist - after learning the truth of the Helios Empire, he opts not to bring it back, and renounced his right to the imperial throne. He establishes the Galactic Federal Republic instead.
  • Royal Blood: He is the only child of Emperor Palmion and the real heir to the Heliosian throne, unlike Kloppen.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Even though Dolmen ruined his planet, massacred millions including his loved ones and turned him into a refugee, he still feels saddened after learning of his backstory.
Harlin: Dolmen, you weakling who cursed the human world! If you hadn't been born as a clone, you wouldn't have met such an end...!"
  • Walking Spoiler: All of his entries are whited-out, and for good reason, too.

  • Determinator: Melipole scoured countless planets in search of Earl and Harlin, assembling a search team to aid him in his efforts, even though decades passed with no results. His son, Ramos, was also born during this time. When Ramos was a young boy, he found Harlin drowning, and alerted his father, saving him.
  • Driven to Suicide: Melipole felt endless despair after the Zaal destroyed Helios and wanted to kill himself to follow in Palmion's footsteps. However, Earl's survival gave him a Hope Spot.

Younger

  • Mr. Exposition: He tells Earl and Kento the fate of Hayato and his backstory. Even though Sanae tells him it's better not to speak so that he can heal, he insists on telling them everything, from the mystery of Hayato's visions to his life as a slave.
  • Sole Survivor: The rest of his crewmates died, but the Adalus base rescued him and tended to his injuries. Unfortunately, Ramus still couldn't make it and died. Before he bit the dust, he told Kento not to hate his father, and that for the past 12 years, the Tate family were all he could think of.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Had he not found Harlin that day, Kento would have never reunited with his long-lost father.

    Gascon

Gascon (ガスコン)

Voiced by: Osamu Kobayashi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gascon_0.png
Gascon
  • Famed In-Story: He's nicknamed "the Galaxy Tiger".
  • Friendly Rivalry: With our main character. They have an arm-wrestling fight at one point and give each other friendly jabs from time to time.
  • Killed Off for Real: He is killed in Episode 36.
  • The Leader: Gascon is a skilled warrior and lead a million soldiers to rebel against the Zaal Empire. He fights against the Saar army using a special mecha of his own.
  • Token Good Teammate: When the Generals lead by Gascon hear rumours of Prince Harlin being a clone, they disavow Kento (one of them even spits on him) and defect to Kloppen's side. Gascon is the only one who refuses to and asks them to reconsider.

Proxia Empire

A prestigious Empire neighbouring the Empire of Helios.
    In General
  • Satellite Character: Both Catine and Judela are obsessed with having Kento wed Catine so that she can be the Empress of Helios. Once they find out (read: are duped into thinking) that Kento is a clone, the Gold Diggers abandon him and forget all plans of marriage.

    Princess Catine

Princess Catine (キャティーヌ)

Voiced by: Utako Shibusawa

Catine
Second outfit

  • Abhorrent Admirer: She really, really wants the Heliosian throne and will do whatever it takes to get it. She travels all the way from Proxia to Earth so that she can woo the descendant of Palmillion, the last Emperor of Helios. Unfortunately, she's oblivious to how her pushyness is rather alienating to him.
  • Alien Princess: Of the Kingdom of Proxia. However, she's of the Rich Bitch variety and looks down on humans and clones.
  • Alpha Bitch: She's nothing but a haughty bully to Sanae and enjoys picking on her insecurities. While Sanae is aggravated by her, she refuses to talk back and holds her anger within.
  • Arch-Enemy: She thinks Sanae is the reason why Kento doesn't return her affections, rather than the fact that she's just not that appealing as a person. As a result, she's frequently rude to Sanae and insults her by calling her a "servant girl".
  • Betty and Veronica: Despite her Ojou image, Catine is the rude, wild and mouthful Veronica to Sanae's simple and girl-next-door Betty.
  • Cool Crown: Hers is exquisitely designed. It has three prongs at the center, two prongs near the ends, and two leaves at the side, all made of gold.
  • The Ditz: She's not very bright and tends to get angry over small things. Even Judela admits it.
  • Dub Name Change: In the Italian dub, she was known as Principessa Florinda.
  • Dude Magnet: In spite of her horrible personality, both Kento and Hata remark that she's a beautiful lady. Kento is surprised when moments after meeting him, she gets on her knees and says that she wants to be by his side forever.
  • Easily Forgiven: Once Catine's bigotry towards clones is revealed to Kento, he's enraged, and his anger worsens when he finds out that Catine and Judela worked with the Zaal to have him killed. While he rages at Catine, he's stopped when he recalls Gascon telling him not to hold on to things because the universe is vast and infinite. Thus, he decides to spare the Proxian Princess and her lady-in-waiting from his wrath.
  • Expy:
  • Gold Digger: Once she found out that the descendant of Emperor Palmillion, Kento Tate, was residing on Earth, she instantly flew there with her wet nurse and sought out his hand in marriage because she wanted to become the Empress of Helios.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: Both of her outfits are mostly purple, and her hat is a pretty lavender colour.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She tries hard to win over Kento's heart, such as trying to feed him with a spoon during the banquet. When she senses Kento disliked it, she throws a tantrum afterwards, howling as she blames Sanae for "stealing his heart".
  • The Load: Catine is a stupid, self-obsessed gold digger who wants Kento's attention more than anything. She even pilots a Humongous Mecha during one of his battles (despite not having any experience with it) so that he would look at her.
  • Rich Bitch: Catine looks down on Kento's friends for not being of Royal Blood. When she hosts a banquet, she says that only Kento is invited. He has to convince her to let his friends attend, and she reluctantly does.
  • Royal Blood: She is the daughter of the King of Proxia.
  • Shipper on Deck: While Catine hopes to wed Kento, she proposes the idea of Judela getting together with Earl because of their old ages. Judela initially laughs at the thought, but during their banquet, she spoon-feeds Earl, who's overcome by a Crush Blush. Judela also stares at him lovingly, and later, she blushes when Catine brings it up.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Her horrible attitude and refusal to take no for an answer earns her the ire of Kento's friends. When she finally leaves, Ochame yells at her to never come back ever again.

    Judela

Judela (ジュデラ)

Judela
  • Cardiovascular Love: Her interaction with Earl at the banquet ends with her winking at him, causing a bunch of hearts to pop up as she does.
  • Coy, Girlish Flirt Pose: She often makes this at Earl. While she laughed when Catine initially suggested they hook up, she actually grew to really like him.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Episode 34. Judela finally gets sick of Catine's tantrums and claps back when she blames her.
Judela "If you courted him harder, he would have wanted to be with you"
  • Easily Forgiven: Judela and Catine are bigoted towards clones, and when they're told Kento is one, they're disgusted. They team up with the Zaal to have him killed, but are caught in the act. While Kento's angry and shouts at them, he remembers Gascon's words, and decides to let it go. He bids them farewell, and him and Danji laugh about the situation.
  • Expy: It's no secret that Daltanious borrows a lot from Daimos, and Judela is a clear Expy of Margarete. She's the Alien Princess' closest confidant who helps her pursue a romance with a Japanese boy who pilots a Super Robot. Even their clothes are the same!
  • Opportunistic Bastard: Downplayed, but she won't let a single moment go to waste if she can use it to further Catine's position in Kento's eyes. When they attended a funeral in episode 31, she told Catine to go comfort Kento and win his favour, instead of grieving for the fallen.
  • Pink Is Feminine: Her gown is bright pink, as a homage to the character's she's an Expy of.
  • Rich Bitch: She calls Kento "worthless" when she believes he's a clone, since that means he's not of Royal Blood.
  • Shipper on Deck: Judela aims to help Catine become the Empress of Helios. She prepares her for meeting Kento and gives her advice on how to woo him.
  • Shipper with an Agenda: If Catine marries Kento, she'll be able to rule Helios, which is why Judela supports her courting him.
  • Ship Tease: She gets some with Earl, who blushes after she feeds him. This is sunk after Kloppen informs them that Kento is a clone, leading Judela to disparage the boy and leave the Adalus base with Catine.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Judela believes clones are an abomination and has no problem with having Kento killed because she thinks he's one.

Zaal Empire (ザール星間帝国)

Originally a planet that had a friendly relationship with the Helios Empire, it was renamed to the Zaal Interstellar Empire by Emperor Dolmen the Great. Dolmen destroyed the Helios Empire and embarked on the domination of the entire universe.

The recruited soldiers are aliens from other planets ruled by Emperor Dolmen.

From their front-line base created on the far side of the moon, the Zaal Empire aims to capture the Adalus base and Daltanias, with Kloppen as its commander-in-chief.

    In general
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zaalflag.jpg
The flag of the Zaal Empire
  • Airborne Aircraft Carrier: They have a diverse array of airships that primarily engage in Beam Spam on the planets they invade.
  • Alien Invasion: By the start of Daltanious, they've already conquered Earth and destroyed the framework of its nations - now humans try to survive in their makeshift villages in lands full of no law and order. A common practice for them is to completely demolish a nation, place surveillance robots to put down any opposition and kill anyone suspected of being a clone.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: The Zaal place surveillance robots (towers that literally have one gigantic, red, eye) on planets they conquer to catch dissidents on sight.
  • The Empire: After destroying The Helios Empire, the Zaal Empire took its place and started assimilating other planets into its fold.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: To the Soviet Union.
    • One of the ways to render their name in Japanese (ザール) is "Saar", a.k.a Tsar, the title of Russian monarchs.
    • Their modus operandi is to colonize countries and insist their inhabitants cut ties to their old nations and culture, which is similar to what Russia to it's colonized countries in a process known as "Russification."
    • They also place surveillance robots on planets they conquer (including Earth) to quell dissidents. In other words, Big Brother Is Watching.
    • The Zaal have advanced spacecraft and arms like their Arch-Nemesis, Helios, which hints at the Space Race between the US and the Soviets. At one point Kento is frustrated and demands a change in Daltanious' powers, prompting a Mid-Season Upgrade.
    • The anime also premiered in 1979, when the Soviet Union was in full swing under the leadership of Leonid Brezhnev.
  • Galactic Conquerer: Coming from Dolmen's desire to never be oppressed again, the Zaal Empire aims to subjugate every planet in the universe.
  • Human Aliens: Played with. Kloppen and Dolmen are indeed humanoid, but they're clones of other aliens.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Is it the Zaal, Zaar, Zar, Zahl, Saar, or Saal Empire?
  • Lack of Empathy: All of them are cruel and have supremacist beliefs, and also treat one another badly for not being "strong" enough or other similar reasons. Neshia is hated by Prozarus and Boider for being a Plant Alien, and Kloppen turns his own pet into a Robeast because he's embarassed about being a failure in Dolmen's eyes.
  • Multinational Team: They're recruited from all over the galaxy, though they're not above Fantastic Racism to one another.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: As the Zaal Empire is a fairly new nation that lacks a proper populace, it opens opportunities to people from all planets, which leads to it's denizens being a diverse Multinational Team. Even clones like Kloppen are allowed in their ranks, except he doesn't know he's one.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The surveillance robots consist of tall towers with a singular red eye on the apex, and automatically become KillerRobots at the sight of any rebellion.
  • Robeast: The Bemborgs are the series' monsters of the week. They range from Animal Mecha to Killer Robots, and can even tower over Daltanious.
  • Take Over the World: With the destruction of Helios complete, the Zaal Empire is confident that it's only a matter of time until the rest of the world falls to their clutches.
  • We Used to Be Friends: The Zaal Empire used to be on friendly terms with Helios. However, once Dolmen hijacked the throne, the Zaal Empire wiped out the Helios Empire, and began conquering planets all over the galaxy to expand it's reigns.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Their Robeasts don't discriminate between age groups and have threatened Ochame, Jiro and Manabu on multiple occassions. Even in the first episode, their surveillance robot attempted to mow down the main children through vicious lasers.
    Kloppen

Kloppen (クロッペン)

Voiced by: Osamu Ichikawa (Japanese), Romano Malaspina (Italian), Carlos Romero Franco (Latin American Spanish)

The Commander-in-chief of the Zaal Empire's Earth Invasion Force. He is the clone of Prince Harlin of the Helios Empire.

Kloppen
Suited (original)
Suited (current)
Unmasked
As a child
As a child, masked

  • 0% Approval Rating: Kloppen is reviled amongst the Zaal for his domineering cruelty, with most showing him obedience out fear, rather than respect. Even Dolmen truly never loved him and viewed him as a pawn at best. It is only after allying himself with the Adalus Base that he experiences a brief amount of genuine friendship...before he chooses to sacrifice himself for Harlin's sake.
  • Abusive Parents: His relationship with Dolmen. Dolmen speaks to him in a way that encourages his most violent aspects, while threatening him with consequences if he disregards them. Whenever Kloppen loses to Daltanious, Dolmen subjects him to a tirade of insults. He also deliberately hid the fact that he was a clone from him.
  • Agent Peacock: He has thick hair, long eyelashes and wears his hair in curls. He's also a ruthless murderer with a Dark and Troubled Past.
  • Alien Prince: Even though he serves Zaal, Kloppen proudly proclaims that he's the Prince of Helios and that Palmion is his father. To his shock, it turns out that he's Harlin's clone.
  • Animal Motifs: His hair and armour resemble a lion's mane.
  • Arch-Enemy:
    • Kloppen deems Kento one, because Daltanious became a symbol of freedom amongst the other planets invaded by the Zaal. The fact that Daltanious is from Earth, a nation the Zaal supposedly ravaged, also makes him feel insecure.
    • He also considers Prince Harlin one because he thinks that Harlin is his clone, and clones don't deserve to live. It's actually the other way around.
  • Awful Truth: Kloppen is Prince Harlin's clone. When he was a child, Dr. Namil brought him to Dolmen so that he could groom the boy into being his successor. Because he wanted the Emperor to accept him into his services, Namil helped Dolmen groom him and reinforced the lie that he was the actual Prince by telling him the Imperial Cross on his arm was proof of his heritage. He raised the boy into following Dolmen's footsteps and being a warrior for the Zaal Empire. After he had grown into an adult, Namil had a change of heart and exposed the truth to everyone. In his pre-recorded video, he admitted there was a way to differentiate clones from their prototypes - clones, when exposed to UV radiation, will experience detoriation in their skins. Kloppen is hit with a UV ray and his skin detoriates - and then he realizes that his entire life has been a lie.
  • Bad Boss: He abuses his subordinates for petty reasons such as "showing weakness" and being unable to bring down Daltanious.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: After using Nova as a means to maul those he disliked, Kloppen eventually has the poor animal tortured and turned into a Super Robot that he sends after Daltanious. Daltanious rips Nova to shreds in the battle.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Kloppen has devastated nearly every planet in the galaxy with his military leadership, and when Kento screams at him for murdering his family and loved ones, Kloppen can only laugh.
  • Captain Patriotic: To the Zaal Empire, but he also takes pride in being the Heliosian Prince.
  • Clone Angst: Kloppen has a mental breakdown when he finds out he's a clone, tearing down the Zaal flag and begging Dolmen to hear his cries. He egts nothing in response.
  • Conquering Alien Prince: By the start of the story, he's already conquered several planets and left them in ruin.
  • Cool Mask: There's actually a very sad reason for it. Dolmen wanted to hide that Kloppen was a clone. He only allowed Kloppen to remove it after he was certain Prince Harlin was dead.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Groomed from a young age by Dolmen to be a pawn for the Zaal Empire, Kloppen in actuality is a clone, something the Zaal Empire looks down upon. Kloppen had a mental breakdown when he found out the teuth, as he had been raised to hate clones.
  • Deflector Shields: Uses them against Kento when he tries to shoot at him.
  • Demoted to Dragon: Once it's found out he's a clone, he's booted from his position and Neshia is promoted to General in his place. Kloppen is humiliated and turned into a hostage so that the Zaal could fall into the Adalus base's good graces. However, Kento refuses to take him, saying that those who sell out their own allies are cowards unworthy of joining his side. Touched by Kento's mercy, Kloppen apostates from the Zaal and switches sides to the humans.
  • The Dragon: To Dolmen. Valuing his brutality in warfare, Kloppen was assigned to lead the Alien Invasion of many planets and subjugate the political dissidents of the Zaal Empire. However, Dolmen isn't impressed with Kloppen's failures and constantly threatens to have him executed if he doesn't put down the robot causing the Zaal Empire unnecessary grief. Kloppen is eventually demoted for good and abandoned by Dolmen after the truth of his creation comes out.
  • Dirty Coward: A hilarious example when he chases Prince Harlin to the end of cliff, thinking he'll kill him. Daltanious emerges from the sea and carries Harlin to safety, causing Kloppen to have an Oh, Crap! moment and try to run away.
  • Dramatic Irony: Kloppen falsely accuses Kento of being a clone, marking him with shame amongst the alienfolk. Come episode 42, it's revealed that Kloppen was the clone - of Kento's father, Hayato.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Sics Nova, his panther, on one of his own men because he expressed fear at Daltanious, stating that he did not want weaklings on his team.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: When Dolmen tasks him to kill his adoptive father, Dr. Namil, Kloppen stares in blank silence and hesitates to press the button.
  • Evil Counterpart: Literally, he is Harlin's. He was originally made to be subserviant to him as a clone, but Dolmen destroyed Helios before that could happen.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: After he's knocked out in battle, he awakens in the Adalus base and hears Kento begging Earl to do whatever he can to keep him and his father alive. Kento acknowledges that while Kloppen did bad things in the past, he's trying to turn over a new leaf and is deserving of mercy. Kloppen is shocked that Kento is still willing to forgive him after everything, and feels a newfound bond with the boy.
Kento: "Please, Old Man! Do whatever you can to save my father and Kloppen! I know Kloppen was once our enemy...I know he killed my family and Ochame's...he killed so many, but he's trying to repent for everything! He risked his own life many times in order to save us!" *wipes tears from his eyes* "Like when he saved Adalus! Save my father and Kloppen! I beg of you!"
  • Expy: Of Garuda from Combattler V. Both are military generals that want to invade other planets, and look down on the human race. They both serve an abusive parental figure (Oleana and Dolmen, respectively), that constantly berate them over their failures in stopping a Super Robot. Most ultimately, they're both clones.
  • Fallen Prince: Well, more like Fallen General, but once it's found out he's a clone, his own generals betray him and try to defect to the Adalus base, offering Kloppen as a hostage. Kento is having none of that.
  • Foil:
    • To Daltanious, as he's the Big Bad to Daltanious' Big Good, and they both have lion motifs. But while Daltanious functions by the co-operation of several individuals (Kento in the lead, Danji as the backup and Earl as the adviser), Kloppen works alone.
    • Kento spent most of his life thinking he was a human and was shocked to find out he was Heliosian, while Kloppen spent most of his life thinking he was Heliosian and was shocked to find out he was a clone. Though Kento's father is loving and supportive of him, Kloppen's father seeked to exploit him. Kloppen also died thinking Dolmen was an actual Heliosian and never knew about his history, while Kento was educated about his bloodline thanks to Earl.
  • I Regret Nothing: After he willingly chooses to give up his organs for Harlin's sake, he professes the following:
Kloppen: "Glory to the entire galaxy...! Glory to Harlin, the leader of the entire galaxy, the crown prince of the Helios Empire!"
  • Jerkass: He is extremely cruel to his underlings and punishes them for any sign of weakness. It's no surprise they all turned on him once they got the chance. In general, Kloppen is an arrogant, haughty and despicable General who views everyone that isn't Dolmen as inferior to him.
  • General Ripper: If you're a Zaal General, you either die in battle with Daltanious or by Kloppen's hand.
  • Heel–Face Turn: 42 episodes in, he comes to terms with the Awful Truth and realizes that he doesn't want to die for Dolmen's cause.
Kloppen: "Kento Tate, I will no longer fight you. A new enemy has appeared to me. His name is Dolmen!"
  • Heroic Sacrifice: After his own side betrays him, and Kento welcomes him with open arms, Kloppen realizes that Dolmen was the true villain all along. He willingly gives up his organs to a severely injured Harlin, even though Kento tries to stop him. Kloppen, despite being injured, forces himself towards Harlin and sings his praises as his last words.
Kloppen: "Transplanting my organs into Harlin isn't just for him, it's also for me. I want to live through him! Harlin! This body I received from you...I will now give it back!"
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Is it Kloppen or Cloppen?
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: Inverted. Kloppen is male, but he has long hair that's puffed up French aristocrat-style.
  • Noble Demon: Kloppen started out as an obsessed warlord, and was reviled by his associates for his cruel nature, but by the end of the series, he's surrendered his violent tendencies and works with the heroes to defeat Dolmen. Kento is moved by how Kloppen risked his life several times to save them, and before the Grand Finale, he sacrifices himself to give Harlin a second chance at living.
  • Oh, Crap!: When he believes that he has Harlin cornered at the edge of the cliff, he believes that he can finally end him for good...only for Daltanious to rise behind him. Kloppen's facial expression suggests he knows he's screwed.
  • Patricide: Dolmen had Kloppen murder his adoptive father, Dr. Namil, because he feared Namil would reveal the boy's secret to him.
  • Redemption Equals Death: While Kloppen apostates from the Zaal Empire after they shun him for being a clone, he performs one last heroic act before dying - willingly offering his intact organs to Harlin, even though he's injured himself. He refuses to take no for an answer when Kento disagrees, and it's all thanks to him that Harlin is able to live and establish the Galactic Federation Republic at the end of the series.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Kloppen's lion-themed helmet has red eyes.
  • Royal Blood: Kloppen thinks that he is the son of the Emperor of Helios, and Harlin is the clone. Oh, the irony!
  • Staff of Authority: His staff is gold and has a round green gemstone encrusted on the top.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: As seen on the page image, Kloppen was once a wide-eyed scared little boy, who was groomed to be a hateful later on due to his position as Harlin's clone.
  • We Have Reserves: No one is safe from this, as Kloppen is willing to toss out everyone under his command to stop Daltanious.
  • You Are What You Hate: Kloppen calls clones "the most abominable things in all of space". Now, take a gander as to why he has such a strong physical resemblance to Harlin...
  • You Killed My Father: It was Kloppen who led the attack that killed Kento's mother and sister.

    Nova

Nova (黒豹ノヴァ)

Voiced by: -

Kloppen's panther.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nova_70.jpg
Nova
  • Ambiguous Gender: Nova's gender is never stated.
  • Cats Are Mean: Nova is vicious and feared by Kloppen's generals for being unrelentlessly violent.
  • The Dreaded: When the Generals see Nova, they're terrified and know they've pissed off Kloppen.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Nova makes its debut by tearing apart one of Kloppen's men...because he expressed concern about the might of Daltanious. The panther continued to attack him even as he begged for mercy.
  • Killed Off for Real: After being humiliated by Dolmen, Kloppen fashions Nova into a Bemborg known as "Jaguar Borg", desperately hoping Nova would kill it. Nova is the one who's killed instead.
  • Panthera Awesome: Nova is of the Evil Is Cool variant.
  • Right-Hand Cat: Nova is Kloppen's pet black panther and mauls people at his bidding.

    General Neshia

A Plant Alien General of Kloppen.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nesia.jpg
Neshia
Human disguise

  • Arch-Enemy: Fellow General Prozarus. He despises her for being a Plant Alien and often calls her "leaf" to demean her.
  • Bad Boss: Despite disliking Kloppen's cruelty, she's just as awful to her former subordinates when she gets promoted.
  • Beauty Is Bad: Her human disguise is actually beautious. However, she uses it to deceive the humans of Adalus, most particularly Toragoro and Sanae.
  • Green and Mean: She's green-skinned, willing to hurt small children (and once plotted to harm Ochame to threaten Daltanious) and a General of the Zaal Empire.
  • Green-Skinned Space Babe: She's a green-skinned humanoid woman that resembles a plant stem.
  • Mushroom Samba: When Neshia disguises herself as "Midori", she brings delicious food to Tate's gang. While the children enjoy it and praise how good it tastes, it turns out she actually laced them with drugs to drive them crazy.
  • Plant Aliens: She resembles the stem of a plant, while her "hair" resembles the leaves.
  • Rank Up: After Dolmen ousts Kloppen for being a clone, Nesia is selected to take his place. She actually managed to badly cripple Prince Harlin and would have killed him, had Kloppen not offered to donate his own organs last-minute.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Is it Neshia or Nesia?
  • The Starscream: She has no genuine loyalty to Kloppen and when the truth of his birth came out, she happily partook in spreading gossip about him. She became his successor afterwards.
  • Token Girl: Neshia is the only female General of Kloppen's forces.

    General Prozarus

General Prozarus
  • Amazing Technicolour Population: He is a blue tyrannosaurus rex. And he has hair.
  • Arch-Enemy: He hates Nesia because of Fantastic Racism.
  • Dub Name Change: General Prozar in the Italian dub.
  • Fantastic Racism: He does not like Plant Aliens, and is often cruel to General Nesia because of this fact.
  • Jerkass: He's awfully smug, has a superiority complex and is a suck-up to Kloppen on top of being a repressive Military General.
  • Killed Off for Real: He's the first of Kloppen's generals to die, being killed off in Episode 27 after he dispatches Terragamedon to defeat Daltanious. To his shock, Daltanious invades the lunar base and defeats Terragamedon, and he dies thanks to the robot's flaming sword.

    General Boider

Voiced by: Tomomichi Nishimura (Japanese), Unknown (Italian), Elbio Nessier (Latin American Spanish)

A Mineral Alien General of Kloppen.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/generalboider.jpg
General Boider

  • Fantastic Racism: Like Prozarus, Boider views Plant Aliens as subhumans and abuses Neshia for being one. When she's promoted to Commander-in-chief after Kloppen's fall from grace, she makes sure to rub it in his face.
  • Killed Off for Real: Boider is killed in episode 44 when his attempt to betray Kloppen and Neshia Goes Horrribly Wrong.
  • Manipulative Bitch: He sends Bemborgs to Earth disguised as meteorites, and after Neshia is appointed commander in Kloppen's place, he orchestrates her removal. It comes to bite him when he tries to shoot Kloppen, who shoots him first and overtakes his battleship.
  • Meteor-Summoning Attack: He summons this in episode 10.
  • Punny Name: His name is a pun on "Boulder".
  • The Starscream: Boider tries to usurp the position of Commander-in-chief from Neshia when she gets promoted and he doesn't.

    General Mizuka

General Mizuka (ミズカ)

Voiced by: Kenichi Ogata

A Disembodied Eye General of Kloppen.

  • Hero Killer: Two times over. Mizuka creates a trap that heavily injures Harlin and Kloppen and leaves the chances of their survival low. Kloppen, full of shame for his past as a wrathful invader, tells Kento and Earl to transplant his organs into Harlin and save his life. Though Kento initially refuses, he comes around to it, and Harlin is saved.
  • Killed Off for Real: In episode 44, after managing to land a hit on Harlin and Kloppen, Daltanious slashes his ship into half, and Mizuka dies when it explodes.
  • Starfish Aliens: Mizuka is a jellyfish-like alien in a jar mounted on top of a robot body.

  • Replacement Mooks: He's sent to replace the General that Nova mauled to death.

    Dr. Namil

Dr. Namil (ナミール博士 )

Voiced by: Takeshi Ono

Formerly Dolmen's top scientist, Dr. Namil is the very man that raised Kloppen and made him into the man he is today. Apart from Dolmen, he is the only one who Kloppen shows affection towards.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/drnamil.jpg
Dr. Namil
  • Ambition Is Evil: Namil states that he was motivated by wanting to serve the Zaal Emperor.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Dolmen orders Kloppen to blast his spaceship so the Awful Truth won't get out, and Kloppen does just that. However, Namil has a capsule sent from his ship broadcast a pre-recorded message for Kloppen. His message reveals the truth about Kloppen's birth and states that Dolmen hid his clone heritage from him, as well as giving his admission of compliance with Dolmen's crimes. Kloppen refuses to believe it and calls Namil a traitor, but when he's hit by UV radiation and his skin discolours, he realizes the old man was telling the truth.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Namil was ordered to raise Kloppen so that he could become a subserviant servant to Dolmen, and in doing so, began to view Kloppen as a son.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He wanted to be of service to Dolmen, so he brought him a clone of Prince Harlin and helped groom him into being the monster he is today - Kloppen. He eventually felt full of remorse for what he did, and defected from Dolmen's forces.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: As Namil raised the little Prince, he began to develop fatherly feelings for him, to the point he willingly died just so that Kloppen could learn the Awful Truth behind his creation.
  • Karmic Death: Namil groomed Kloppen into being a wrathful warlord; it is the wrath-filled Kloppen that blows up his ship and causes his demise.
  • Morality Pet: On both ends.
    • He's an emotionless, cold man and had no issue helping Dolmen rise to power. However, he never forgave himself for what he did to Kloppen, and confessed to his crimes at the price of his own death.
    • Kloppen visibly shivers at the order of shooting Namil, while silently asking himself why of, all people, it had to be him.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He is ashamed that he played a role in Kloppen's indoctrination. He has made peace with the fact that there's liekly never going to be any redemption for him and remarks that he will be watching the battle of the galaxies from Hell.
  • Redemption Equals Death: After achieving the power he sought out, Namil enjoyed prestige in the Zaal Empire, but it also came with the caveat of knowing that he was duping the boy he viewed as a surrogate son. Eventually the guilt was too much, and he owned up to his actions, knowing that Dolmen would kill him for doing so.
  • Scientiat Video Journal: Despite being his top scientist, Dr. Namil always anticipated that Emperor Dolmen would eventually murder him because he was one of the few people who knew the Awful Truth behind Kloppen's birth. He is proven right, as Dolmen orders Kloppen to take him out, something that the Prince himself hesitates since Namil was a surrogate father figure to him all his life. Though he does murder Namil, Namil publicizes a recording where he confesses that Kloppen was never the true Heliosian Prince and it was Harlin all along. He also reveals that Kloppen is actually a clone of the Prince, and Dolmen has been grooming him all his life to be his pawn. Namil's last words are the following:
Namil: "Now I will be watching from hell."
  • We Used to Be Friends: Both Namil and Earl served the Heliosian Royal Family, but later, Namil joined the side of the Zaal.

    Grand Emperor Dolmen

Grand Emperor Dolmen (ドルメン大帝)

Voiced by: Yuzuru Fujimoto

Grand Emperor of the Zaal Empire's Earth Invasion Force. He is the clone of Emperor Palmillion of the Helios Empire.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grandemperor.jpg
Dolmen
Disguised form
One Winged Angel form
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's never shown how a mere clone like Dolmen somehow managed to escape his bonds and topple the Helios Empire.
  • The Atoner: After accepting the magnitude of his actions and realizing how much blood is on his hands, Dolmen commits suicide.
  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: Dolmen was born a Heliosian clone of Palmion.
  • Big Bad: He's responsible for the Zaal invasion, pressured Kloppen into committing several atrocities, and single-handedly brought down the Helios Empire.
  • BFS: His mecha's weapon is this in form of a Laser Sword for battle.
  • Boomerang Bigot: All the rhetoric he spouts about clones is this after it's revealed that he is one too.
Dolmen: "Clones have no human value! If only they had killed Harlin as ordered, his secret would never have been known!"
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He was one of the shadow warriors of the successive emperors created by the Heliosians. Because of his clone status, he was treated no better than livestock. He gradually came to hate everything in the world, and after destroying the Helios Empire, he tried to rule the entire galaxy.
  • The Dog Bites Back: The very same nation that enslaved him was the first that he destroyed once he came to power. However, Dolmen wanted to go further and rule the entire universe.
  • Doppelgänger Gets Same Sentiment: Played for Horror and even enforced: as Dolmen explains, clones in Helios are forced to endure the same injuries that their originals suffered to keep them exactly the same, except when the injuries are life-threatening in which case the clone's organs are given to the original. One example we see on screen is Prince Palmillion falling off his horse and getting broken bones when he was a kid. Dolmen was immediately tortured to have the same injuries. No wonder Dolmen went crazy.
  • Dub Name Change: Dolmen became Ormen in the Italian dub.
  • Dying Declaration of Hate: In his final words, he tells Kento that he cannot kill his legacy, and that the hatred clones have for their oppressors will always exist. As a result, Prince Harlin decides to pass a law making anti-clone discrimination illegal and works for an Empire where all are equal.
  • Expy: Of Emperor Zambajil. They're both genocidal, warring Planet Barons who exploit and abuse their dragons, and have long blonde hair tied into curls around their heads. The main difference is that Dolmen has a shocking Dark and Troubled Past that changes the tide of the whole story, and that Dolmen is willing to fight until his dying breath, in contrast with Zambajil who immediately loaded the cart with riches and tried to flee Boazania.
  • Humongous Mecha: Dolmen pilots a personal robot that is so massive it dwarfs Daltanious.
  • Hypocrite: Hates The Helios Empire for using clones as if they were disposables....as if that's not the same thing he's been doing to Kloppen.
  • Meaningful Name: Of course an artificial, man-made being would be called "Dolmen".
  • Sadist: He takes pleasure in inflicting pain on Kento through his sword, asking him how it feels afterwards.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Since Kento is Helios' Alien Prince, Dolmen deems it fit to take out his anger of being maltreated as a clone on him. When Earl begs him to have mercy and says that Kento has nothing to do with his past, Dolmen retorts that doesn't care because the boy is a member of the Heliosian Royal Family, and he hates them with a passion.
  • To the Pain: Dolmen threatens to have Kloppen dismantled and sent to a bio-parts factory if he fails to kill Harlin.
  • One-Winged Angel: In the Grand Finale, after the UV radiation exposes Dolmen as a clone, he decides to take it on the chin and assume a new form, before telling Kento the history of the clones in Helios.
  • Planet Baron: Dolmen is the ruler of Zaal, Earth, Marios and several other planets thanks to being a ruthless conquerer.
  • You Are What You Hate: Dolmen is a clone of Emperor Palmillion, meaning that he wasn't any different from the disgraced Kloppen.
  • You Cannot Kill An Idea: Even as Daltanious brings him to death's door, he gives out one final Dying Declaration of Hate.
Dolmen: "Kento Tate, even if I am dead, don't think for a second that this is over!"
    Kento: "W-What?"
Dolmen: "As long as planets have a need for clones, or if clones like us exist on a planet somewhere...our hatred and sadness will never disappear!! There will come a time when the flames of rebellion will flare up again!"
