    Luz Noceda/Kamen Rider Witch

Luz Noceda/Kamen Rider Witch

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rider_luz.jpg
"I am the hero who will shine a light in the darkness! The defender of all the innocent! I am Kamen Rider Witch, warrior of hope! Now eat this suckas!"
A 14-year-old human girl who stumbled upon a portal to the Demon Realm and came to stay with Eda, the Owl Lady. One day, Luz was kidnapped and subjected to the Sabbath ritual with the intention of being forcefully transformed into a Phantom, but unlike the other victims, Luz managed to overcome her despair and gained control over her inner Phantom. This attracts the attention of Haruto Soma/Kamen Rider Wizard, who gives her the tools to become a Kamen Rider herself.
  • Adaptational Badass: Luz was already skilled with her glyph magic in canon, but being Kamen Rider Witch greatly enhances her magical power. Later on, she even gains the ability to use magic from the nine covens thanks to rings she created with the help of her friends.
  • Affectionate Nickname: La Lechuza starts calling Luz “Niña” once they get to know each other.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Luz was a huge fan of Kamen Rider before she came to the Boiling Isles, and now, she can become a witch and a superhero like she dreamed of.
  • Battle Couple: She and Amity/Kamen Rider Heka become this once they start dating.
  • The Cape: Being the optimist she is, Luz is dedicated to helping people and protecting their hope as much as she can as Kamen Rider Witch.
  • Cast from Calories: The process of creating new rings is very taxing for Luz physically, so eating a lot of sugar is her way of replenishing her mana.
  • Character Catchphrase: Just like the person who helped her become a Kamen Rider in the first place: “It’s showtime!”
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Being a Kamen Rider, Luz will try her best to save whoever she feels needs helping, even jerks like Boscha and Hunter.
  • Cool Bike: Witch’s motorcycle is the Witch Speeder, which lacks wheels, but is capable of flight.
  • Covert Pervert: When Luz learns about the vampires on the Boiling Isles and how different they are from her perception of them, she reveals she has fantasized about being made into a vampire's servant. Her encounter with the Dracula Phantom naturally kills these fantasies.
  • Double Weapon: Witch's signature weapon is a copy of Kamen Rider Wizard's WizarSwordGun, which can transform into a gun or a sword.
  • Evil Me Scares Me: When Luz learns about how Oscura started out in a similar position as her, she worries about going down the same path as her, even after saving the alternate version of herself.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: The people of the Boiling Isles gradually start to turn against her and Heka thanks to some illusions from one of the Coven Phantoms.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Luz has a tendency of saying random words and sentences in Spanish.
  • Jumped at the Call: While Haruto isn’t thrilled that Luz is the only one capable of becoming a Kamen Rider due to her age, Luz doesn’t think twice when offered the chance.
  • Multiform Balance: Like other Kamen Riders, Witch has several forms at her disposal.
  • Me's a Crowd: In addition to the copies created with the Copy and Illusion Rings, Witch can summon three copies of her other Owl Style forms with the Owl Timer.
  • Oblivious to Love: Luz is painfully unaware of Amity’s crush on her at first.
  • Ring of Power: In addition to using some of the same rings Wizard used like Connect, Copy, Bind, Defend, and Kick Strike Rings, Witch gradually creates new rings to use in combat.
    • Freeze Ring: Allows Witch to conjure up ice to freeze her enemies with, though it's only used in Ice Style.
    • OwlRise Ring: Allows Witch to summon La Lechuza inside someone's Underworld to fight an inner Phantom.
      • After unlocking her Twilight Style, Witch gains the Owl Re:Rise Ring, which summons a magical construct of La Lechuza in the physical realm.
    • Ride Ring: Summons the Witch Speeder.
    • Sight Ring: Enhances Witch's sight to not only see in the dark, but also to see things from far away.
    • Fissure Ring: Creates a fissure in the ground that several vines sprout from, though it can only be used in Plant Style.
    • Flare Ring: Gives Witch a fiery aura that boosts her physical strength, though it can only be used in Fire Style.
    • Rubber Ring: Allows Witch to extend parts of her body, in addition to making her immune to electrical attacks.
    • Invisible Ring: Makes Witch invisible.
    • Flash Ring: Creates a blinding flash of light that can also heal curses.
    • The Holy, Cocytus, Gaea, and Quetzalcoatl Rings give Witch's Owl Style forms a part of La Lechuza's body to use as armor, similar to Wizard's Special Ring.
    • Witch also gradually gains rings that let her use the magic of the other covens, sans the Plant and Emperor's Coven: Abomination, Illusion, Bard, Potion, Beast Keeping, Healing, Construction, and Oracle.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Her and Amity defeating Grom caused him to give into despair and become Nuckelavee.
    La Lechuza

La Lechuza

Luz’s inner Phantom who tried to overtake her on the day of the Sabbath, only for Luz to suppress her and turn her into the source of her magic as Kamen Rider Witch. Arrogant and dismissive of Luz, their relationship is very rocky, but they grow closer as a team as time goes on.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Luz tends to call her “Lala”.
  • Anti-Hero: La Lechuza is not happy that she’s forced to essentially serve as a living mana battery for Luz. Initially, La Lechuza only agrees to help Luz fight the Phantom as Witch for three reasons: 1) Because of their connection, if Luz is killed by a Phantom, La Lechuza will die too. 2) Because La Lechuza wasn’t able to emerge from her vessel, she refuses to let any other Phantoms emerge from their Gates, if only out of sheer spite. 3) No matter what La Lechuza says, Luz will still fight the Phantoms anyway.
  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • Luz starts calling her “Lala” because of how long her name is.
    • Bast tends to call her “Laly”.
  • Can't Live Without You: Thanks to their bond, La Lechuza needs Luz to stay alive so she can stay alive.
  • Character Development: While she initially wants nothing to do with Luz, she gradually grows to care for Luz as a friend, even helping to reassure her when she starts to doubt herself.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Dry humor is La Lechuza’s go-to response to any given situation, even if nobody but Luz can hear her.
  • Ominous Owl: Being an Owl Phantom, this trope is pretty obvious.
  • Secret-Keeper: La Lechuza learns that Amity is Kamen Rider Heka after sensing Bast in public, but chooses not to tell Luz until she and Amity find this out themselves.
  • Synchronization: A side effect of their bond is that when Luz is sick with the Common Mold, La Lechuza is just as delirious as her host.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: This is how La Lechuza and Luz work initially, with the former repeatedly complaining about her current situation, and the latter trying her best to forge a friendship with her.
  • Troll: One of the few sources of enjoyment La Lechuza finds in live is teasing Luz over her love life.
  • Tsundere: A Running Gag in this fic is that Luz herself calls La Lechuza one of these
    Eda Clawthorne

Edalyn “Eda” Clawthorne, AKA, The Owl Lady

Luz’s mentor and the self-proclaimed most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles. While she initially doesn’t trust Kamen Rider Witch, once she learns her true identity, she starts to change her views on her while continuing to help teach the human about magic.
  • Anger Born of Worry: Learning that Luz is Witch causes Eda to question why Haruto would trust her of all people to become a Kamen Rider, especially after what happened with Adegast before the events of the fic.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Just like in canon, Eda loses her magic after succumbing to her curse.
  • Likes Clark Kent, Hates Superman: Initially, Eda is very distrusting of Kamen Rider Witch, completely unaware that she is actually Luz.
  • Mama Bear: The fic starts off with Eda searching for Luz after she was kidnapped for the Sabbath ritual.
  • Out of Focus: Because she isn’t nearly as powerful as the Kamen Riders, Eda doesn’t get to help out in the action as much.
  • Secret-Keeper: Eda becomes the fifth person to learn Luz’s identity as Kamen Rider Witch.
    King Clawthorne

King Clawthorne

A diminutive demon who lives in the Owl House with Eda and Luz.
  • Secret-Keeper: King becomes the third person to learn Luz’s identity as Kamen Rider Witch.
  • Sticky Fingers: When Eda takes away Luz’s Rings, King manages to steal back two of her rings and two of the magic stones needed to create more.
    Luz: King, when did you—
King: I’ve studied under the best pickpocket in town for years.
    Hooty

Hooty

The house demon who is the Owl House itself, acting as a security system for its residents.
    Willow Park

Willow Park

A shy, but strong girl in the Plant Track at Hexside, and is one of Luz’s best friends.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: In canon, Willow and Skara were simply teammates on the Emerald Entrails. Here, they start dating.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Willow in canon had Ship Tease moments with Hunter, but here, she starts a relationship with Skara, meaning she could either be gay, pansexual, or bisexual.
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • Willow becomes the second person to learn Luz’s identity as Kamen Rider Witch.
    • She also served as one of Amity’s confidants when it comes to her feelings for Luz while Luz herself was unaware.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Just like in canon, Willow has a crippling fear of ladybugs.
Willow: Ladybugs! Swarms of ladybugs! Going to eat me! Extra eyes, the black spots are lies!
Gus: Willow, we’ve talked about this. They’re just spots.
Willow: Lies! All lies! They’re watching me! They’re all watching me! (one of the ladybugs flies onto her nose) I WON’T BE EATEN BY YOU! (jumps and starts running, accidentally hitting a wall in her panic)
    Gus Porter

Augustus “Gus” Porter

A student in the Illusion Track at Hexside, and the founder of the Human Appreciation Society’s “Kamen Rider Club” branch.
  • Fanboy: Gus is a huge fan of the Kamen Rider shows in the human realm, which partially inspired him to create the Kamen Rider Club.
  • Master of Illusion: Like in canon, Gus specializes in Illusion magic, and ends up being the one to help Witch create her Illusion Ring.
  • Secret-Keeper: Gus becomes the fourth person to learn Luz’s identity as Kamen Rider Witch
    Amity Blight/Kamen Rider Heka

Amity Blight/Kamen Rider Heka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rider_amity.jpg
"I am the Rider who has tapped into an ancient magic and fights for the good of everyone! I who fight with grace and honor, will end your evil! The sun’s wrath incarnate! Kamen Rider Heka! Let the show begin!"
The former Academic Alpha Bitch at Hexside, after befriending Luz, she starts to warm up to her, and even starts to mend her friendship with Willow. However, while Luz values Amity as a friend, Amity sees Luz in a different way, and isn’t sure how to say it. While Luz is away in Amphibia, Amity takes part in her father’s experiment to awaken her magical power and become a Kamen Rider herself.
  • Ancient Egypt: Kamen Rider Heka’s arsenal is themed after Egyptian mythology and folklore.
  • Ascended Extra: Amity was already a major character in the show, this fic makes her a major character even before she becomes a Kamen Rider.
  • Battle Couple: She and Luz/Kamen Rider Witch become this once they start dating.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: A big part of Amity’s internal conflict is her struggle to confess her feelings to Luz.
  • Character Catchphrase: “Let the show begin!”
  • Cool Bike: Heka’s motorcycle is called the Solar Chaser, which can fly like the Witch Speeder.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Once Amity starts dating Luz, Odalia disapproves of it, and eventually, Odalia recruits Boscha as part of her plan to break up the couple.
  • Determinator: Unlike Luz, Amity has to willingly travel to her Underworld and subjugate Bast before she can become a Kamen Rider, and it takes countless tries for her to do so.
  • Golden Super Mode: Heka Champion is this.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: The people of the Boiling Isles gradually start to turn against her and Witch thanks to some illusions from one of the Coven Phantoms.
  • Hour of Power: Amity can only transform into Heka for a single hour every day. She overcomes this once she gets her Champion form.
  • Our Homunculi Are Different: Like in canon, Amity specializes in Abomination magic, which is boosted after becoming a Kamen Rider. Before she became Heka, Amity helped Witch create her Abomination ring.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Her and Luz defeating Grom caused him to give into despair and become Nuckelavee.
  • Walking Armory: While Heka lacks the form changes Witch has, she makes up for it by having multiple weapons at her disposal.
    • Lady Luck: Heka’s default weapon, a magic staff that she can use to either increase her own stats or decrease an enemy’s stats… provided she gets a good number on the roulette wheel attached to it.
    • Sphinx Shield: The first of Heka’s three auxiliary weapons, a sphinx-themed shield that can absorb kinetic energy to redirect at the enemy.
    • Scarab Saber: The second of Heka’s auxiliary weapons, a scarab-themed sword that gives Heka Super-Speed.
    • Griffon Ax: The last of Heka’s auxiliary weapons, a griffon-themed ax which can create powerful shockwaves when hitting the ground.
    Bast

Bast

Amity’s inner Phantom, awakened through Alador’s experiment. Playful and cunning, Bast loves to mess with Amity, even being sealed away by her.
  • Cats Are Mean: Being a cat Phantom, she fits this trope.
  • Foil: To La Lechuza. While La Lechuza is a very prideful and arrogant Phantom who only chooses to work with Luz to preserve herself, Bast is more of a trickster who tries to find ways to amuse herself after Amity seals her away.
  • It Amused Me: Pretty much the reason why Bast loves to taunt Amity so much.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • When La Lechuza is affected by the Common Mold thanks to her connection with Luz, Bast doesn’t laugh at how delirious her fellow Phantom is acting.
    • As Amity starts to fall under the effects of Boscha's charm potion, Bast panics and outright screams that there's something wrong with Amity, which tips off La Lechuza and Luz to the scheme.
  • Secret-Keeper: Bast learns that Luz is Kamen Rider Witch after sensing La Lechuza in public.
  • Troll: Just like La Lechuza, Bast gets a lot of enjoyment out of teasing her host for her romantic problems.
    “Haruto Soma”/Kamen Rider Wizard

“Haruto Soma”/Kamen Rider Wizard

A copy of the veteran Rider created to help answer any Kamen Rider-related questions Luz may have.
  • A Death in the Limelight: In "Until We Meet Again, Luz", Luz creates a new ring capable of giving Haruto a physical form to fight alongside Witch. Unfortunately, it exhausts the magic keeping him inside Luz's head.
  • It Only Works Once: Wow Witch now has a ring that allows her to summon Kamen Rider Wizard for help! Oh, it's a one-time deal? Okay, at least he'll still be in—and he's gone.
  • Parental Substitute: Luz sees him as one. It makes his "death" happening on the same day as the anniversary of her real father's passing even harder.
  • Spirit Advisor: Technically, he isn’t the real Haruto, just a copy created to serve as a mentor because the real Haruto can’t stay in the Demon Realm for long.

Students at Hexside

    Skara Grimamore

Skara Grimamore

A young witch studying under the Bard Track at Hexside and one of Boscha’s former “friends”. Skara grows closer with Luz and Willow and eventually starts a relationship with the latter.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: In canon, Skara was asked out to Grom by one of her male classmates, but in this fic, she starts a relationship with Willow, meaning she could either be pansexual or bisexual.
  • Ascended Extra: Save for two episodes, Skara was a fairly minor character in the show. In this fic, she starts to hang out more with the main cast, even if she isn’t fully aware of their secrets.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Skara gains more focus during "Musical Mayhem" and "Red Ruin".
  • Designated Victim: Not only is Skara one of the first Gates to be targeted by a Phantom, she's also the first witch to fuse with a Coven Phantom.
  • Magic Music: Like in canon, Skara specializes in Bard magic, and ends up helping Witch create her Bard Ring.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Skara’s last name was never revealed in canon, but in this fic, it’s Grimamore.
  • Secret-Keeper: Skara becomes the ninth person to learn Luz’s identity as Kamen Rider Witch.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: When it seems like she was behind a series of pranks on Willow in one chapter, Boscha praises Skara for showing “initiative”. It’s what causes her to start slipping into despair.
    Boscha Barbtalone

Boscha Barbtalone

A bully at Hexside studying under the Potion Track, and former “friend” of Amity and Skara.
  • Adaptational Karma: Boscha’s “friends” are shown to explicitly set boundaries and request to stop hanging out in this fic.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While not perfect, Boscha is shown to be somewhat nicer to others when the situation calls for it.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: While it was more ambiguous in canon, Boscha is shown to have feelings for Amity in this fic, to the point where she works with Odalia to find ways to break up Luz and Amity.
  • Alchemy Is Magic: Like in canon, Boscha specializes in Potions magic, and ends up helping Witch create her Potion Ring.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • As much of a bully as Boscha is, even she is disgusted when Luz tells her that someone at her old school blackmailed her into doing what she wanted under the threat of being outed as bisexual.
    • During the Bonesborough Brawl, Boscha steals Luz's phone with the intent of reading the notification out loud for everyone to hear before she defeats her. As soon as she reads the notification about the anniversary of Luz's father passing away, she immediately forefits.
  • Properly Paranoid: Boscha's suspicions that Circe and Ezra are manipulating Amelia are correct, given that they turn out to be Phantoms.
  • The Rival: She claims to be this to Luz in vying for Amity's affection... while Amity and Luz are already dating.
  • Slipping a Mickey: Boscha tries to slip a charm potion into Amity's food during her date with Luz, but Luz manages to break the spell.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: A non-lethal example After rightfully being called out by Amity and losing what little respect she had for her, Boscha is then chewed out by Odalia, who proceeds to cut her out of her plan to break up Luz and Amity.
    Amelia

Amelia

One of Boscha's friends who studies under the Plant Track at Hexside.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Love Starved" focuses on her growing closer with two other classmates.
  • Morality Pet: Surprisingly, she serves as this to Boscha, who is determined to prove that Circe and Ezra are up to no good.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Amelia isn't aware that the two nice students, Circe and Ezra, are actually the Phantoms Succubus and Incubus respectively.
    Viney Arwin

Viney Arwin

A student at Hexside who studies under the Healing and Beast Keeping Tracks.
  • Adaptational Explanation:
    • The reason Viney chose to study both Healing and Beast Keeping Magic was because she was inspired by her mother and stepfather.
    • Viney met Puddles as a young griffin while she was abandoned in the forest by her father for "survival training", and the two forged a bond .
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Viney had an abusive father who decided the best way to help teach her was to leave her alone in the woods when she was five years old.
  • The Beastmaster / Healing Hands: Like in canon, Viney specializes in Beast Keeping and Healing magic, and ends up helping Witch create her Beast Keeping and Healing rings.
  • A Day in the Limelight: We learn more about Viney's home life during "An Eggcellent Time".
  • Named by the Adaptation: Viney never had her last name revealed in canon, but in this fic, it’s Arwin.
  • Secret-Keeper: Viney is the tenth person to learn Luz's identity as Kamen Rider Witch.
  • Secret Relationship: Viney wishes to keep her relationship with Emira a secret.
    Edric and Emira Blight

Edric and Emira Blight

Amity’s older twin siblings, a pair of tricksters studying in the Illusion Track at Hexside.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The two get more focus during "Twin Trouble".
  • Cerebus Call-Back: Emira previously saying that her greatest fear was being stuck with Edric forever during "Enchanting Grom Fright" was played off as a joke, but when Edric thinks about it in this fic, it triggers his abandonment issues.
  • Hates Being Alone: Charybdis triggers Edric's fear of isolation in "Twin Trouble".
  • Secret-Keeper: They’re the next to learn Amity is Kamen Rider Heka after Alador.
  • Secret Relationship: Emira wishes to keep her relationship with Viney a secret.
    Matt Tholomule

Matt Tholomule

A transfer student from Glandus who studies under the Construction Track.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Matt becomes important during "Illusions of Grandeur".
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Matt specializes in Construction magic, and ends up helping Witch create her Construction Ring.
  • Red Herring: When Bria is revealed to be a Phantom, it seems like Matt would end up being that chapter's Gate, given how much time she spent manipulating him. Instead, Gus is the one who falls victim to despair and needs to be saved, while Bria didn't even know he was a Gate in the first place.
    Barcus

Barcus

A canine demon studying under the Oracle and Potions Tracks at Hexside.

Other Residents of the Boiling Isles

    Lilith Clawthorne

Lilith Clawthorne

Eda’s sister, and the former head of the Emperor’s Coven.
  • Badass Bookworm: Lilith is very smart when it comes to studying magic. She helps Luz create a new ring in a way that doesn’t drain her mana as much as it used to.
  • Brought Down to Normal: As a result of sharing the curse with Eda, Lilith loses access to her magic.
  • Secret-Keeper: Lilith becomes the sixth person to learn Luz’s identity as Kamen Rider Witch.
    Alador Blight

Alador Blight

The top inventor at Blight Industries and the father of Amity, Edric, and Emira. One day, he chooses Amity to take part in his experimental project to make someone a Kamen Rider.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: He and Amity start to mend their relationship far earlier than in canon, to the point where he's willing to cover for Amity while she goes to the Bonesborough Brawl.
  • Foil: To Eda. While Eda knew next to nothing about Kamen Riders at first and tried to stop Luz from being Witch as soon as she learned her secret identity, Alador was the one who gave Amity her Kamen Rider powers in the first place and served as a mentor for her.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He was already this in canon, but creating the gear necessary to make someone a Kamen Rider is another thing.
  • Secret-Keeper: Being the person who created the powers, Alador is the first person to know Amity’s identity as Kamen Rider Heka.
    Odalia Blight

Odalia Blight

Amity’s strict and overly controlling mother.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Odalia was already a piece of work in canon, but here, she actively conspires to break up Luz and Amity once they start dating.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Even though her husband created the gear, Odalia has no idea that Amity is Kamen Rider Heka.
    Gwen Clawthorne

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Clawthorne

Eda’s mother, an elderly member of the Beast Keeping Coven who wants to cure her daughter’s curse.
  • Secret-Keeper: Gwen is the seventh person to learn Luz’s identity as Kamen Rider Witch.

The Emperor’s Coven

    Emperor Belos/Kamen Rider Inquisitor

Emperor Belos/Philip Wittebane/Kamen Rider Inquisitor

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rider_belos.jpg
"Ah, I see now why the child enjoys doing this. For all the flare, it’s quite the powerful and intimidating form. Be grateful, Phantom, you will probably be the only one who will see me in this form. And feel free to address me by my moniker while in this form. Kamen Rider Inquisitor."
The tyrannical emperor of the Boiling Isles. Belos has plans for the Day of Unity, but he has to deal with both Kamen Rider Witch and the Phantoms before he can truly achieve his goal. Eventually, he forges an artificial Philosopher’s Stone and becomes a Kamen Rider himself.
  • Adaptational Badass: Belos was already an incredibly powerful witch, but after gaining his Kamen Rider powers, he becomes almost unstoppable in a fight.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: While their goals differ, Belos and Tiamat are the leaders of their respective factions.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: While the Phantoms are initially the primary antagonists of the fic, Season 2 puts Belos back in the spotlight at the true Big Bad after Belos converts Set into an artificial Philosopher’s Stone, kills Tiamat, and salvages some of the pseudo-Phantoms for his own use.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: Belos manages to create his artificial Philosopher’s Stone by converting Set into pure magical energy.
    Hunter/The Golden Guard/Kamen Rider Crusader

Hunter/The Golden Guard/Kamen Rider Crusader

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rider_hunter.jpg
"Kamen Rider Crusader! That is the name, monster, of the one who will end your reign of terror!"
The head of the Emperor’s Coven and nephew to the Emperor himself. Hunter is loyal to his uncle and will do whatever it takes to defend the Boiling Isles.
  • Adaptational Badass: In canon, Hunter lacked any natural magic and had to rely on either his artificial staff or Flapjack. In this fic, while he still doesn’t gain magic from it, he gains more weapons as Kamen Rider Crusader. He's also able to use other kinds of magic if he scans the ring, like Luz's Healing Ring.
  • Anti-Villain: Just like in canon, Hunter is this, but it becomes more prominent when he becomes Crusader. He genuinely wants to help people and even works alongside Witch and Heka to stop the Phantoms.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Crusader's rings give him all kinds of powerful weapons, but he lacks the versatility that Witch and Heka's magic has.
  • Enemy Mine: Despite their differences, Hunter will occasionally work alongside Witch and Heka to stop the Phantoms.
  • Flash Step: Like in canon, Hunter gets this ability from Flapjack, but is also able to use it as Crusader thanks to the Dash Ring, also created by Flapjack.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Hunter currently has no idea that Belos is the one responsible for creating the Coven Phantoms.
  • Token Evil Teammate: For Luz and the others. Even though Hunter is loyal to Belos, he still works with the other Riders to stop the Phantoms.
  • Token Good Teammate: For Belos and the Emperor's Coven. While Belos has plans to send the Pseudo-Phantoms after the citizens of the Boiling Isles, Hunter is genuinely dedicated to helping people.
  • Walking Arsenal: Crusader has access to five different rings that give him weapons themed after birds.
  • The Worf Effect: Crusader tends to get beat up by Phantoms a lot. Ironically, most of the Phantoms he struggles to beat are the Coven Phantoms, Belos' creations.
    Coven Phantoms (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

In General

When it seemed like all of the Phantoms were defeated, Belos managed to abduct a couple of Echidna’s pseudo-Phantoms and began to clone and experiment on them, infusing them with magic shared by the other nine covens.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Belos didn't even intend for the Coven Phantoms to merge with others, but decided to find a way to keep the Hybrid Phantoms under his control thanks to how powerful they are.
  • Engineered Heroics: Belos dispatched Hunter to take on some of the new Coven Phantoms in Latissa as a way to boost his image. Unlike other examples of this trope, Hunter was completely unaware of the scheme.
  • Fusion Dance: The Coven Phantoms have the ability to forcibly merge with someone, but they have to specialize in the type of magic they have. For example, Skara is used to demonstrate this ability when the Super Bard Phantom merged with her.
  • Monster of the Week: They take over the role the Phantoms originally had.

Original Coven Phantoms

The first nine Coven Phantoms created by Belos to attack the Coven Day Parade.
  • Flawed Prototype: These Phantoms aren’t nearly as strong as their successors.
  • Zerg Rush: Their plan involves overwhelming Witch and Amity nine-to-two.

Super/Hybrid Bard Phantom

A Coven Phantom who fuses with Skara.

Super/Hybrid Beast Keeping Phantom and Super/Hybrid Healing Phantom

A pair of Coven Phantoms who fuse with Matilda and Fang, Viney’s mother and stepfather respectively.
  • Anti-Villain: While they’re still dangerous Phantoms, as soon as they fuse with Matilda and Fang, they immediately set their sights on Barlow, Viney’s abusive biological father.
  • Battle Couple: A villainous example.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: They refuse to harm Viney, and their main objective outside of fighting Witch is making sure Barlow gets what he deserves.
  • Female Fighter, Male Handler: The Hybrid Beast Keeping Phantom is the more powerful one while the Hybrid Healing Phantom specializes in treating her injuries.
  • The Medic: The Hybrid Healing Phantom is naturally this.
  • Roaring Rampageof Revenge: The two Hybrid Phantoms plan to do this to Barlow.
  • Tranquil Fury: The Hybrid Healing Phantom is very calm when he declares vengeance on Barlow.

Super/Hybrid Potion Phantom

A Coven Phantom who fuses with Boscha.
  • Acid Attack: She can create acid corrosive enough to damage Crusader’s armor.
  • Adaptational Badass: Boscha becomes a bigger threat thanks to fusing with this Phantom.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Boscha’s knowledge in making potions is expanded more here.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: The Hybrid Potion Phantom angrily orders Maya to go along with her plan, and threatens her to not disobey her again.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: The Hybrid Potion Phantom is able to inflict this onto Amity.
  • Magic Potion: The Hybrid Potion Phantom can create all kinds of these.

Super/Hybrid Abomination Phantom

A Coven Phantom who fuses with One, otherwise known as the Greater Basilisk.
  • Adaptational Badass: The Greater Basilisk was already a dangerous creature in canon, but after being forced to merge with a Coven Phantom, it becomes an even bigger threat.
  • Blob Monster: It’s basically a sentient Abomination, with all the powers that entails.

Super/Hybrid Plant Phantom

A Coven Phantom who fuses with Willow.

Super/Hybrid Construction Phantom

A Coven Phantom who fuses with Warden Wrath. Unlike other Coven Phantoms, he fuses with Wrath's Inner Phantom, making him a much bigger threat.
  • Adaptational Badass: Wrath was already very dangerous thanks to the transformation serum he accidentally ingested, but after fusing with the Super Construction Phantom, he becomes powerful enough to nearly destroy all of the Boiling Isles.
  • Brutish Character, Brutish Weapon: This Phantom is savage in nature, and it's reflected in using a mace as its weapon of choice.
  • Magma Man: His primary ability.

Super Illusion Phantom and Super Oracle Phantom

A pair of Coven Phantoms who serve as Emperor Belos' enforcers.

The Phantoms

    The Phantoms’ Master (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

The Titan

The Boiling Isles itself, the Titan was the one who summoned the Phantoms in an attempt to get rid of the “creatures” who use his magic for their own ends.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Compared to the Titan we saw in the final episode, this version is far more ruthless and nowhere near as supportive.
  • Big Bad: Being the one who was responsible for the Phantoms in the first place, the Titan is this.
  • Final Solution: The Titan’s plan is to channel all the magic in his body and release it all at once in a single blast in order to wipe out all life on the Boiling Isles.
  • God Is Evil: The Titan is worshipped as a powerful being by the Boiling Isles, but he isn’t as friendly and benevolent as they believe him to be.
  • Grand Theft Me: The Titan’s spirit possesses the body of Barbatos for the final battle with Witch.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: Once the Titan sees the error of his ways, he asks Witch to finish him off to stop the spell that would wipe out everyone on the Boiling Isles.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After a talk with Luz, the Titan starts to realize he doesn’t actually believe everyone else in the Boiling Isles deserves to die.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Has a burning hatred for the citizens of the Boiling Isles and wants to wipe them all out.
  • Walking Spoiler: Anything we say about this character would reveal the Phantoms’ true goal.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: The Titan’s original goal was to stop Belos for abusing his name to benefit his own goal, but over time, it devolved into wanting to wipe out everyone on the Boiling Isles. Thankfully, Luz talks him out of it.
    Tiamat

Tiamat

The second-in-command of the Phantom army who commands a great deal of respect towards her kind.
    Ifrit

Ifrit

A brutish Phantom, always looking for a fight.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: As much as he and Ahuizotl tend to argue, when Ahuizotl is consumed by Nuckelavee, he furiously channels his magic to attack Nuckelavee to get his revenge.
  • Blood Knight: Ifrit is the most willing to fight first and ask questions later, much to the annoyance of his fellow generals.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Ifrit voices his opposition to Ahuizotl’s plan that involves essentially letting Witch kill their fellow Phantoms in order to get a better understanding of her powers.
  • HA HA HA—No: Has this reaction in response to Ahuizotl’s question about Witch potentially becoming stronger than him.
  • Playing with Fire: His primary method of attack.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Frequently butts heads with Ahuizotl.
    Ahuizotl

Ahuizotl

A Phantom who is usually at odds with Ifrit.
    Typhon

Typhon

An arrogant Phantom who is always itching for a fight.
  • Blood Knight: Even more than Ifrit. When the Phantoms are ordered to stay in their lair to avoid being hunted down by Nuckelavee, Typhon ignores Tiamat’s orders and goes to fight Witch himself. This leads to his downfall, and Nuckelavee getting part of his powers.
  • Blow You Away: His primary method of attacking.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Typhon is as fast as he is strong.
    Set

Set

Tiamat’s most loyal follower.
    Barbatos

Barbatos

  • An Arm and a Leg: Barbatos loses his arm during a fight with Nuckelavee.
  • Grand Theft Me: He ends up becoming the vessel for the Titan’s spirit.
  • The Mole: His disguise is that of an Emperor’s Coven Scout.
  • Spider-Sense: Barbatos has the rare ability to track down Gates.
    Nuckelavee (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

Grometheus, the Fear Bringer/Grom/Nuckelavee

Grometheus the Fear Bringer, once a mighty creature who terrorized the Boiling Isles, has been defeated countless times by young witches, but being defeated in such a humiliating fashion by countless young witches has caused him to fall deep into despair, becoming the only Phantom to not be born from the Sabbath.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: Nuckelavee’s main power involves consuming his fellow Phantoms and gaining their powers.
  • Canon Character All Along: His true identity is Grom, a Monster of the Week from Season 1 of The Owl House.
  • The Dreaded: Nuckelavee’s presence causes a sense of panic from everyone he meets due to how powerful he is, even the other Phantoms.
  • Evil Is Petty: Nuckelavee destroys the tree created from his defeat at the hands of Luz and Amity just because he hates it that much.
  • Hate Sink: Compared to the other Phantoms, Nuckelavee has not a single noble trait to him, and lives only to cause misery and suffering.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Nuckelavee proves to be a very serious threat, and the tone of the story becomes much darker while he is on the loose.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When Witch unlocks her Wonder Style and breaks his spell that placed his victims in comas, he loses a lot of his composure.
    Lesser Phantoms

Wendigo

The first Phantom Luz fights as Kamen Rider Witch.

Wil-O’-The-Wisp

A Phantom sent to bring Willow to despair.

Dracula

A Phantom born from a criminal on the Boiling Isles, Reven the Blood Count. Unlike other Phantoms, Reven was able to retain his personality while gaining the power to continue his killing spree.

Kitsune

A Phantom sent to bring Skara to despair.

Thunderbird

Lightning Lucille was another witch criminal who managed to merge with her Phantom, and was forced to go after Witch under Set's orders.
  • Forced into Evil: Downplayed. Thunderbird was far from a saint back when she was just a witch, but she genuinely had no intention of following orders and going after Witch until Set threatened to kill her if she didn't try to kill Witch herself.
  • Resurrected Murderer: Just like Reven, Lucille merged with her Phantom and retained her personality.
  • Shock and Awe: Thunderbird’s preferred method of fighting involves lightning magic. Even before she became a Phantom, Lucille had an unhealthy obsession with the element and all the ways it could be used to kill people.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Thunderbird was the first Phantom to properly defeat Witch in a fight.

Pan

A Phantom created by Scooter Crane, the Head Witch of the Bard Coven.

Succubus and Incubus

A pair of Phantoms sent to bring Amelia to despair.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The two pretend to be interested in a relationship with Amelia, only to fake their own suicides just to drive her to despair.
  • Charm Person: They can use their magic to conjure illusions of their victims’ deepest romantic desires.
  • Succubi and Incubi: The creatures these two are based on.

Troll

A brutish Phantom, and the first one to be fought by Kamen Rider Heka

Nightmarchers

A Phantom sent to bring Tibbles to despair.
  • Me's a Crowd: He can duplicate himself even more than Kitsune can.
  • Zerg Rush: The Nightmarchers aren’t exactly strong, but they can wear down their opponents thanks to their numbers.

Mad Hatter

A Phantom sent to bring Odalia to despair.

Scylla and Charybdis

A pair of Phantoms sent to bring Edric and Emira to despair.

Jabberwock

Eitchilon was another person who merged with their Phantom, and was later sent to bring King to despair.
  • Anti-Magic: He is able to create a magic-cancelling field.
  • Master of None: Other than the aforementioned magic-cancelling field, Jabberwock is very weak, and once Luz breaks past the field with her Fire Owl style, he doesn’t stand a chance.

Asura

Originally just Bria, a Glandus High student, Asura set out to find the Galdorstones
  • Adaptational Villainy: Bria in canon was already a massive jerk, but in this fic, she’s a Phantom.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Once she’s at the mercy of Witch and Heka, Asura begs for her life.
  • Death by Adaptation: Bria was never harmed in canon, but Asura’s existence means that Bria is as good as dead.
  • Eaten Alive: Her ultimate fate at the hands of Nuckelavee.

Cerberus and Orthos

Two Phantoms recruited by Barbatos to help him learn more about a rogue Phantom.

Echidna

A Phantom who was told by Tiamat to go into hiding in order to serve as her race’s “last resort”.
  • The Dragon: After the death of Tiamat, she takes over this role for her master, the Titan.
  • Explosive Breeder: Her primary ability is to create Pseudo-Phantoms through quickly laying eggs.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: While she doesn’t survive past “The Titan’s Gambit”, some of her Pseudo-Phantoms are salvaged by Belos for his own evil plans.

Goblin

Echidna’s right-hand man.
  • Not Afraid to Die: Even though he’s fully aware of the Titan’s plan to wipe out all life on the Boiling Isles, Goblin doesn’t care, thanks to his Undying Loyalty.
    Inner Phantoms

Dryad

Willow’s Inner Phantom.

Siren

Skara’s Inner Phantom.

Strix

Eda’s Inner Phantom, and La Lechuza’s sister.
  • Cain and Abel: Strix is only the Cain because the Abel, La Lechuza, is the one working with Witch. It doesn’t help that unlike other examples of this trope, La Lechuza doesn't show that much affection towards her.
La Lechuza: She’s only my "sister" in terms of both of us originating from a similar creature. She’s an owl and I’m an owl, our relation ends there.
  • Ominous Owl: Just like La Lechuza.
  • Sore Loser: She’s this, according to La Lechuza, as she plans to destroy Eda’s entire Underworld with La Lechuza and Witch with her.

Phoenix

Amelia’s Inner Phantom, and the reincarnation of one of Kamen Rider Wizard’s greatest rivals.

Spriggan

Tibbles’ Inner Phantom.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite being smaller than any Phantom Witch has ever fought, it is as strong as a giant. The only way Witch and La Lechuza can get the upper hand is through the use of the Small Ring, making them both even smaller than it so they can fight it like they do with the other Inner Phantoms.

Arachne

Odalia’s Inner Phantom.

Unicorn and Pegasus

Emira and Edric’s respective Inner Phantoms.

Kur

King’s Inner Phantom.
  • The Dreaded: While not outright afraid, La Lechuza is aware that if he broke out of King’s body, it would be a very powerful Phantom.
  • Dragons Are Demonic: It’s a very dangerous Phantom.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: It’s the first Inner Phantom to really give La Lechuza a challenge.

Yatagarasu

Lilith’s Inner Phantom, and an old rival of La Lechuza.

Changeling

Gus’ Inner Phantom.
