Extracanonical Characters

This lists the Original Generation characters originating in the spin-offs of Date a Live, the Visual Novels and the movie. Date A Live Visual Novels Perfect Visual Guide stated that all VN are Canon and took place between seasons.

Date A Live: Rinne Utopia

Rinne Sonogami (Unmaked Spoilers)

The eponymous character originating in Date A Live: Rinne Utopia, Rinne Sonogami is (supposed to be) Shido's childhood friend. As per standard, she goes to the Itsuka household every morning to wake him up and prepare his lunch. Although Shido is uncomfortable with this fact at first, he grew to quickly accept this after seeing everyone else accept her as such.

• And I Must Scream: After Eden is destroyed, Rinne is effectively erased from existence with no one left to remember her. Now a powerless Spirit, she is left alone in her own empty world. This, is after all she has done for Shido. She even lampshades it, asking herself "This is the right thing to do... right?" It doesn't last long though, as Phantom seems to Mercy Kill her or save her shortly after.
• Anti-Villain: Of the 'villain in name only' variety. She only becomes an antagonist because the protagonists disagree with her view of happiness, which is embodied within Eden. It's really up to the player whether her actions are good or bad, as Rio Reincarnation's Central Theme is to determine just that.
• Back from the Dead:
  • Rinne somehow returns as a transfer student in the real world after Eden's destruction during the What If? ending of the game.
  • In the beginning of Rio Reincarnation, Rio also revives Rinne as a powerless Spirit in her new Eden.
• Big Bad: She means well, but Rinne does kickstart the plot of the game with Eden's creation. The story begins with her birth, progresses due to her feelings, and ends with her death.
• Big Bad Friend: Although responsible for trapping Shido and the others within Eden as well as rewriting their memories so she can fit in, Rinne tries her best to earn their friendship through her actions and not her powers.
• Big Brother Is Watching: Rinne is mentally connected to each and every one of her summons, allowing her to respond quickly to anything that happens within Eden.
• Bling of War: Astral Dresses are essentially combat suits for Spirits, and Rinne's features numerous accessories that appear to be made out of gold, such as extensions on her shoulders and hips, and an emblem on top of her headdress.
• Canon Immigrant: Sort of. She makes her light novel debut in the 11th volume, however it's merely Phantom borrowing Rinne's face to talk with Shidou. If she actually exists in the novel beyond a disguise used by Phantom is still unknown due to the state of the game's canonicity, making her true fate at end of the game unknown.
• Childhood Friends: She's a childhood friend to Shido and by extension, Kotori. Or at least, that's the story she sticks to. Most of the bad ends have Shido realize she isn't before he gets killed.
• Cleavage Window: Her Astral Dress features two of these, a large one around her chest and a smaller one right under her neck.
• Code Name: "Ruler"; as the Spirit who rules over Eden, the world where the game takes place.
• Crucified Hero Shot: Mirroring her role, Rinne gets one of these when she is trapped within Eden's core, entangled by its roots.
• Curtains Match the Window: Pink hair with a darker shade for her eyes. Downplayed in her Spirit form, as her eyes glow a much deeper pink, almost red in color.
• Death-Activated Superpower: She is born from the large amount of Spirit energy that was released when Shido was accidentally killed by Tohka in the beginning of the game.
• Determinator: She'll do anything for Shidou, literally anything. Lampshaded in Rinne Bathtime, where she said that she will do and become anything for Shidou. Even Origami is taken aback, and that's saying something.
• Deus ex Machina: On the What If? ending of the game, despite being effectively erased from existence, Rinne miraculously returns as a transfer student in the real world. Not only that, her appearance causes Shido to remember everything about her.
• The Faceless: Downplayed as the Spirit Ruler. She has the majority of her facial features covered by a veil, but her glowing crimson eyes allow you to make out some part of her face, although usually not enough to recognize who she really is. Her identity is not revealed until near the end of her route.
• Flower Motifs: By Rio Reincarnation, Rinne is associated with the forget-me-not/myosotis flowers. They represent "memory" in floriography, and purple myosotis in particular means "true and undying love." It's appropriate given Rinne's role, as well as her fate in the true endings in both Rinne Utopia and Rio Reincarnation. By the latter's true ending, it's all that is left of her.
• Girl Next Door: She seems to stylize herself as one of these, being the "reliable Childhood Friend" of the Itsuka residence.
• Go Out with a Smile: When Eden finally crumbles after she is kissed by Shido, Rinne bids him goodbye with a smile before disappearing. Happens to her once again when Shido chooses not to live in Eden, as she disappears after one last goodbye hug.
• Happily Married: In her alternate route in Rio Reincarnation, after deciding to stay in Eden, Shido and Rinne eventually get married. She then gives birth to a reincarnated Rio in the epilogue.
• Harem Nanny: She takes this role quickly after she appears.
• Heroic BSoD: In Rio Reincarnation, she nearly breaks down when Marina accuses her of pushing all the responsbility to Shido, as well as doing absolutely nothing to help him make up his mind. Considering that she had tried to dictate Shido's happiness before though, she probably feels that she has no right to do so.
  Rinne: I know, I know about that... but then what should I do? What should I have done!?
• I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: She takes this to a whole new level with Shido. Rinne literally wouldn't mind what she has to become or what she has to do so long as he is happy. And as Ruler, she is more than capable to back that up.
  Rinne: If Shido wants me, then I'll gladly give my everything to him. To become his lover, kiss him, have sex with him, marry him, give birth to as many babies as he wants, grow old together with him. But, even if Shido chooses someone other than me, I won't mind. If Shido thinks to marry Tobiichi-san, I'll bless him with all my heart. Of course, it also applies for other person as well. Even if Shido chooses Tohka-chan, Kotori-chan, Yoshino-chan or perhaps someone that I don't know. Of course, I don't mind if he doesn't choose to be with anyone, or even if he chooses everyone I'll support his wish. I'll do anything for Shido's happiness. If Shido wishes it, I'll grant any of his wish. I don't mind becoming his childhood friend, his lover, his wife, his younger sister, his older sister, his mother, his daughter, his superior, his subordinate, his enemy, his nemesis or even someone unrelated to him. As long as Shido is happy, I'm satisfied....Oh sorry, it seems I got too worked up by myself. But it is true that I don't mind whoever Shido chooses.
  • Played for Drama in her own route. After Shido tells her that the happiness that Eden grants is not "true happiness", Rinne follows his wish to destroy Eden, even though she is aware that it will result in herself being Ret Goned from his memories and being put into a horrific And I Must Scream. Why? Because it will allow him to attain "true happiness." Rinne even makes sure that Shido won't hesitate by not telling him these facts.
• Lotus-Eater Machine: Her Eden's primary ability, "Paradise Lost" is this. It's far more elaborate than typical examples of this trope however: with the Angel as its core and the world around it as its basis, Eden creates an alternate world with the user as its "Ruler." Rinne has an almost absolute control over this world, capable of rewriting memories, events and even time flowing within the realm through triggering a Reset Button of the user's choosing. During the game, Rinne made it so Eden will reset every time Shido dies.
• Meaningful Name: Her first name (凜祢) is a play on word with 輪廻 (also read as "Rinne"), a Japanese term of Samsara; a concept of reincarnation/cycle of rebirth as well as the one's actions and consequences in the past, present, and future in several South Asian religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism. Makes sense since her Angel's ability Paradise Lost is based from this concept.
• Mercy Kill: Phantom does this to her after her Eden is destroyed, although it's unknown whether it is out of compassion or because it has no more use of her. Depending on the game's canonicity and Volume 11, it's also equally possible that Phantom may have saved her instead.
• Nice Girl: Unquestionably, and not just for Shido. Everyone (except for Kurumi) likes her to an extent, and with good reason.
• One-Hit Kill: Physical contact with Eden's core will result in this. The very consciousness of the offender will be drained, instantly knocking them out or killing them. It's this attack that allows her to curb-stomp pretty much everyone, although Shido manages to survive it near the end of her own route due to her Power Incontinence and Shido's own strong will.
• Our Angels Are Different: The Guardians she creates resemble a humanoid figure with six wings, wearing a cloak that are either white, red, or black.
• Power Incontinence: Due to her conflicted feelings about imprisoning Shido within Eden, she begins losing control of her powers in her route. It worsens as the route goes on, and it ends up being the primary reason for her defeat and Eden's destruction.
• Pure Magic Being: She's made of Tohka, Yoshino, Kotori and maybe Kurumi's (due to the latter being trapped inside Eden) Spirit powers, and has no physical form, a trait she shares with Mayuri. When she's sealed, she effectively ends up dying.
• Purple Is Powerful: Rinne's Astral Dress consists of a clock dress and a headdress that are primarily purple in color. And as the owner of Eden, she is extremely powerful and dangerous.
• Red Baron: Like the Angels of other Spirits, Rinne's Eden has one, "Paradise of Calamity"
• Red Eyes, Take Warning: Curiously, her eyes turn into a more intense pink, crimson-like color when she is in her Spirit form]]. As with her hair, [[spoiler:this change is also exclusive to her Spirit transformation.
• Ret-Gone: When Eden finally crumbles in the true ending, every event that occurs within it are forgotten by Shido and the others, including Rinne's very existence. The only one who remembers her is Phantom.
  • Happens to her once again in the true ending of Rio Reincarnation, although downplayed as she seems to be left as the flower accessory that decorates Shido's housekey this time. Rinne can send telephatic whispers to Shido at that state, and even though he can't recognize her, he does feel nostalgic whenever he is holding it.
• Star-Crossed Lovers: With Shido, tragically. In her route, Rinne manages to make Shido fall in love with her, but because of his refusal of Eden's form of "happiness"; as well as her own wish for his happiness, Rinne willingly allows Shido to erase herself from existence to free him from Eden. Shido then learns from Reine that no one will remember anything that ever happened or existed within Eden after its destruction. Realizing that he would never remember Rinne, Shido spends his last moments within the crumbling world with a tearful Skyward Scream.
  • Even in Rio Reincarnation, this trope holds true as Rinne will disappear again unless Shido decides to stay in Eden. Even then, this trope is only averted in her own (alternate) route, where Shido chooses her as his love interest again.
• Story-Breaker Power: Her Reiryoku density is said to be second only to the First Spirit, and if she lost control of her power, a Spacequake large enough to destroy the whole Japan would occur. She can easily kill Shido and one of the heroines in all routes, and in her own route Rinne fights and defeats Tohka, Yoshino, Kotori and Kurumi (and Origami) simultaneously.
  • This is likely another reason for her disappearance, as similar to Kurumi, Rinne could likely deal with most of the problems that come up later in the story easily.
• Summon Magic: As Ruler, Rinne can create Guardians made of her Spirit powers that help her watch over Eden.
• Superpower Lottery: Databooks state that her Eden is an SS-class Angel. Considering its power, it deserves the rank. Even her other stats are insane, her Astral Dress and Spacequake clocks in at S-class, which is beyond any other Spirit shown so far.
• Tragic Keepsake: Rinne returns a duplicate of Shido's housekey before the end of her route, to symbolize that she is done with the pretense. It's the only thing left of her in the real world after Eden's destruction. It becomes a plot point during Rio Reincarnation as the "most important thing" Rio's trying to find.
• Troubled Fetal Position: At the end, when she is drifting endlessly in her own empty Eden.
• Undying Loyalty: To Shido. Ultimately, this is the reason why she gets Ret Goned at the end of the game - her loyalty to his wishes exceeds her regard for her own life.
• Unwitting Pawn: After Eden's destruction, Phantom visits the powerless Rinne in her now empty Eden. It leaves a Wham Line that implies that Rinne is this. Though depending on if the game's canon to the main story and her use of Rinne's form to disguise herself was by actually using her physical body, the Wham Line might just be her telling Rinne to rest until she needs her again.
  Phantom: Good work. Now, time to sleep.
• Walking Spoiler: Her eyes have whitened pupils, which is a sign of Spirit powers. Her Ruler form shows up whenever Shido reaches a Bad Ending that isn't Kurumi's, triggering a ResetButton in the process, and is integral to the climax of Rinne's own route. Even her first light novel appearance is not what it seems, as it's only a form Phantom adopts in Volume 11 to communicate with Shido.
• World Tree: Eden's core sustains the world it creates, and it takes the form of a massive tree that Rinne disguises as the Shin Tenguu Tower.
• Yamato Nadeshiko: Her general demeanor is that of a proper lady who is soft spoken, very kind, and polite. This doesn't change even after she reveals herself as Ruler.
• Yandere: She is born in response to Shido's death in the real world, and creates Eden, a whole world, for his sake. Then she sets up his death as its Reset Button, and actively seeks to kill him (and whoever heroine is with him at the time) when he is close to finding out about the truth. Compared to Kurumi, she is a far, far straighter example. She mellows out by the end of the story, though.
• Year Inside, Hour Outside: Some of Utopia's endings take place several years in the future, and all of the endings are implied to actually happen since Rinne resets the world every time. This means that Shido and the others are trapped inside Eden for at least several decades, but when Eden is finally destroyed after Rinne's Ret-Gone and Shido and the others return to the real world, barely a day has passed since Eden's creation. This is implied to be part of Eden's powers to affect the flow of time.

Arusu Install

Maria Arusu (Unmarked Spoilers)

"I am here for long. I have a question I can not answer ..... What is love?"

An original character made for Date A Live: Arusu Install. While testing out the newest, virtual reality date training game developed by the Fraxinus's crew, Shido meets and is trapped by Maria Arusu, the main A.I. of the system. She wants to know love, and asks that the sealed Spirits enter the simulation so that she can hear their opinions on what love is (Origami and one of Kurumi's clones also joins in eventually). Hearing their varied and contradictory opinions, she proposes that they and Shido act out date scenarios so she observe for herself.

• 11th-Hour Superpower: Maria prays for strength with which to protect her loved ones near the end of the game. She gets it due to the powers of other Spirits are accumulated within the virtual world, allowing her to use them as hers, turning her into a Spirit with her own Astral Dress.
• Artificial Intelligence: She's the A.I. controlling the virtual reality of the game, meaning she is neither a human nor a spirit. Until the collective energy of the Spirits accumulated in the system turns her into an Irregular Spirit, that is.
• Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Kind of. She's still an A.I., but now she can interact with the real world as Shido's personal assistant on his phone.
  • A straighter example happens to her again in Rio Reincarnation, as she is reincarnated by Rio into an actual human in her Eden.
• Back for the Finale: Before being erased from Fraxinus' system, Marina manages to download Maria's personality data and attach it into an email that Shido receives in the epilogue. She is now attached into Shido's phone as his personal A.I. assistant.
• Bad Habits: Due to copying Marina's data, Maria is dressed like a nun minus the coif (nun's hat), although she doesn't act like one.
• Become a Real Boy: Not her primary motives, but her interactions with Shido slowly humanizes her to a point where she can realize that she has fallen in love with him and cares for his happiness.
• Big Sister Instinct: In Rio Reincarnation, it's very clear early on that Rio likes Maria the best when compared to other characters (who isn't Shido or Rinne), to a point where Rio refers to her as "Onee-san." Maria returns the sentiment and affection just as much. This may or may not because she is sharing her body with Marina, who exhibits this trope to much greater degree than Maria.
• Canon Immigrant: In Volume 14, one of the features of the newly repaired Fraxinus EX is that the ship's AI can now speak and interact with its operators using a girl's voice. The A.I. is code-named "MARIA". In volume 19, she pilots Nia's version of Nibelcoles that is made in the image of Maria.
• Date Peepers: Watches all of the dates for the sake of learning love.
• Deadpan Snarker: She has a sarcastic streak by the time of Rio Reincarnation.
• A Glitch in the Matrix: Played with. Maria is native to the system, but her appearance isn't, and she isn't supposed to interact in the simulation at all.
• Go Out with a Smile: Alongside Marina, in each other's arms, when Shido destroys their Crystal.
• Heroic Sacrifice: Alongside Marina, Maria allows Shido to destroy their newly formed Sephira Crystal to shut the system down, erasing the two of them alongside the virtual world in order to restore Fraxinus' system and prevent it from falling into the Tenguu City.
• Innocent Blue Eyes: Fitting for an A.I. who wishes to learn about love and deeper emotion.
• Inside a Computer System: The only character not based on a real world person. She IS the computer system, after all.
• Mystical White Hair: Maria has silvery white hair, which indicates her status as a non-human A.I. Made more significant as she turns into a Spirit later.
• Nice Girl: Becomes this due to her interactions with Shido later in the game. It's much more clearly seen in her behavior in Rio Reincarnation.
• Robot Girl: Her Astral Dress has this as its theme, with mechanical-looking armor and metallic halo on her back, as well as several electronic circuit cables around her hips that seem to serve as Combat Tentacles.
• Secret Character: Possibly in the light novels. The Fraxinus's AI recommends some lines in Volume 11 that it simply couldn't possibly do without a deeper understanding of love or at least Origami's personality than it had previously. Then in Volume 14, the AI can now communicate with its operators directly and is codenamed MARIA, but still shows no physical form.
• Sharing a Body: Maria and Marina share a body in the new Eden during Rio Reincarnation. As a Call-Back to Arusu Install, Maria is active during the day while Marina takes over during the night.
• Tomato in the Mirror: She isn't the real Arusu.
• What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: The tagline of the game, and the central question of Maria's life. Sure enough, figuring love out for herself is the key to unraveling the whole story.

Marina Arusu (Unmarked Spoilers)

"How do you feel in this world where you are surrounded by girls?"

The second original character of Arusu Install. Marina's appearance looks like a shadow counterpart to Maria, replacing Maria's white-and-black color scheme with black-and-gold. She only appears on Maria's route whenever it is nighttime, and only when Shido is alone. She remains a mystery up until the end game, where she reveals her true colors.

• 11th-Hour Superpower: Not even Marina expects herself to turn into a Spirit once she takes control of the virtual world fully, due to the accumulated Spirit powers in the system.
• Artificial Intelligence: Like Maria, she is neither a Spirit nor a human. By the end of the game though, she becomes an Irregular Spirit with her own Sephira Crystal, presumably due to the accumulated Spirit powers within the system she has taken over.
• Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Happens to her in Rio Reincarnation, as Rio reincarnated her as the Ruler's Guardian in the new Eden.
• Back from the Dead: During Rio Reincarnation, Rio resurrects Marina as her Guardian in the new Eden. She returns again in Ren Dystopia within Samael's artificial world.
• Bad Habits: For some reason, Marina is dressed like a nun minus the coif (nun's hat), despite acting nothing like one.
• Because You Were Nice to Me: Her interactions with Shido and Maria causes Marina to slowly warm up to them. She even admits near the end of the game that she likes having her head patted. This is the primary reason of her Heel–Face Turn.
• Big Bad: It's clear that she is the main antagonist of the game from the get-go. Marina is the one responsible for trapping Shido and the Spirits in the system, and by the end of the game she eventually manages to take over the Fraxinus. However, what is not obvious, is that Westcott is the offscreen Greater-Scope Villain who ordered her to do all of the above.
• Big Sister Instinct: Develops this in Rio Reincarnation. Rio allows Marina to return as Eden's Guardian, to which she is very grateful for (not that she will ever admit it). Out of gratitude, Marina greatly cares for the child in return, she breaks out of her sarcastic and rude behavior whenever Rio is around, and the Guardian outright supports the Ruler in her goal to complete and preserve Eden despite Marina's personal opinion that the world has no future. Rio is aware of this, and acknowldeges Marina as her "Okaa-san," as in, her parental figure in return.
• Brutal Honesty: Marina never holds back her opinions and doesn't sugarcoat whatever she has in mind. This is best seen when she almost drives Rinne into a Heroic BSoD in Rio Reincarnation by launching one accusation after another when they finally meet face-to-face in the sixth day. When she returns in Ren Dystopia, she muses that despite the eponymous character's posturing as a Card-Carrying Villain, she's really just a weak-willed girl scared to remember her first wish. Ren tries to deny it, but later admits to Shido that Marina wasn't wrong.
• Canon Immigrant: Sort of, in Volume 16. She returns not as an A.I., but as Beelzebub's spawn, "Demon King's Daughter - Nibelcole" summoned by Westcott, complete with a different design. Volume 17 reveals that there are dozens of them, so Nibelcoles essentially become the Elite Mooks for Westcott, being much stronger than typical shadow mooks created by the same Demon King previously.
• Combat Tentacles: She has a lot of tentacles growing from her Astral Dress once she becomes a Spirit, especially on her back and her hip.
• Dark Is Evil: She is essentially a Darker and Edgier Maria, and also the Big Bad.
• Evil Brunette Twin: She looks like Maria with black hair, a rude personality, and villainous role. Even her Spirit form looks positively more demonic than Maria's, with changes similar to a Spirit's Inversion. Subverted after her Heel–Face Turn.
• A Glitch in the Matrix: Marina is assumed to be this by Maria. She is right. While Marina might be the invader A.I., she's the original Arusu; Maria's appearance is a result of the system being affected by Marina.
  • In Rio Reincarnation, she invokes this intentionally when Rio makes her the new Ruler of Eden, where she decides to forgo Eden's timeloop and make it so Eden will end when Shido dies like before, giving everyone in Eden a chance to actually live a lifetime, but also let Shido continue life the way he should without Eden's existence.
• Go Out with a Smile: Alongside Maria, in each other's arms, as Shido destroys their Crystal.
• Heel–Face Turn: Slowly undergoes this throughout the story, before finally earning Redemption Equals Death at the end of the game. Fortunately, we get to see the results of this trope on her in full in Rio Reincarnation.
• Heroic Sacrifice: Alongside Maria, Marina allows Shido to destroy their newly formed Sephira Crystal to shut the system down, erasing the two of them alongside the virtual world in order to restore Fraxinus' system and prevent it from falling into the Tenguu City.
• Inside a Computer System: The other only character not based on a real person. She's the malevolent A.I. trying to take control of the system.
• Jerkass: She regularly badmouths people with malice, and deletes any NPC that annoys her during the game. It gets downplayed post her Heel–Face Turn, but she is still very blunt in her words and opinions.
• O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Marina breaks her Brutal Honesty, Deadpan Snarker, and Jerkass attitude whenever she is around the titular character in Rio Reincarnation.
• Parental Substitute: Fittingly for her role as Rio's Guardian, Marina is this for Rio throughout the game, which Rio herself acknowledges in every route bar the true ending.
• Power Gives You Wings: She gains a pair of wings made of tentacles upon becoming a Spirit.
• Redemption Equals Death: It's implied that Marina could have downloaded her own personality matrix into the internet instead of Maria's to save herself before the system shuts down, but she chose to save Maria instead.
• Self-Duplication: Her power as a Spirit allows her to make unlimited copies of herself, which she uses to take on all the protagonists at once.
• Sharing a Body: Marina and Maria share a body in the new Eden during Rio Reincarnation. As a Call-Back to Arusu Install, Maria is active during the day while Marina takes over during the night.
• Stripperiffic: Her Astral Dress is a long, black dress with a Navel-Deep Neckline that is complimented with shorts that couldn't be tinier than an actual underwear.
• Supernatural Gold Eyes: She has glowing golden eyes to signify her status as a non-human A.I. Made more significant as she becomes a Spirit later.
• Tsundere: In Rio Reincarnation, Marina goes tsuntsun whenever Shido is being particularly nice to her. Also toward Rio, as despite all she says about Eden being worthless, Marina still helps Rio to try and complete it anyway.
• Undying Loyalty: To her creator and father, Isaac Westcott, as she is willing to become a villain just to please him. Interestingly, it's unknown whether she keeps this loyalty or not after her Heel–Face Turn, since she has no chance to talk about him again afterwards, even in Rio Reincarnation.
  • In Rio Reincarnation, she also shows this for the titular character. Marina ignores her own feelings and motivations if that means helping Rio, see the spoilered entry of Big Sister Instinct and O.O.C. Is Serious Business above.
• Walking Spoiler: Her identity, her role, as well as her backstory spoils the entire game. Likewise, in her first light novel appearance, she appears as an entirely different entity, being part of Westcott's Demon King, Beelzebub.

After meeting Maria, Rinne, and Marina in the first day of the new world he is trapped in, in the next night Shido met Rio in a park. She refers to Shido as her "Papa" as well as reminding him to search for the "most important thing", before disappearing.

Like Rinne before her, she is a Walking Spoiler, and are intergral to the game's plot.

• Affectionate Nickname: Rio is fond of these. She refers to Shido and Rinne as "Papa" and "Mama" respectively, Maria as "Onee-san" and Kurumi as "Kurumin." Rio also refers to Marina as "Okaa-san" before disappearing in every route that isn't the true ending, signifying Marina's role as her Guardian and the new Ruler of Eden.
• All-Loving Hero: Rio wants everyone that she knows to be happy. Which is why she wishes to fully restore Eden, which she believes to be the only way for her wish to come true.
• Armor-Piercing Question: Near the end of the game, Rio gives Shido one of these, questioning whether or not he hates the world she has created. Shido's answer is determined by the route he is in, and by extension, decides the ultimate fate of the new Eden.
• Big Eater: Not to the extent of Tohka, but still counts.
• Bling of War: Astral Dresses are supposed to be a Spirit's armor and while not as decorated as Rinne's, Rio's dress still has some accessories that seem to be made of gold; most notably the emblem on her stomach, which is the same emblem Rinne had on her headdress.
• Cryptic Conversation: In her first meeting with Shido. She does explain herself in a few days, though.
• Determinator: Not unlike her mother and father. Nothing will stop Rio from finishing her role to complete Eden. Even when she knows that she will die regardless of her success or failure to do so, meaning she won't live to see the results of her efforts. In all routes bar the true ending, Rio manages to convince Shido to stay in Eden precisely because he is touched by the sheer determination she has.
• The Glomp: She is quick to tackle-hug anyone that she likes. Maria and Rinne are the most common targets.
• Go Out with a Smile: When it's finally time for her to disappear, regardless of route, Rio will always disappear with a smile on her face. Either because Rinne assures her that Shido's choice is correct (in the true ending) or because she is giving her last regards to Marina, her Guardian (in every other route).
• The Heart: Rinne and Marina don't get along when Rio isn't around. Heck, even when she is around, they still have more than a few arguments.
• The Heartless: As it turns out, she is a manifestation of Shido's longing feeling for Rinne since her Ret-Gone, and thus recalls Eden into existence. She is also part of Eden's function to search for Eden's key, that Rinne gave Shido at the end of Rinne Utopia. This means that Rio really is, in a sense, Shido and Rinne's daughter.
• Heroic BSoD: At the seventh day, Rio is barely holding it when she reveals that she is going to die, no matter what happens in the end. She only recovers after Shido talks her out of it.
  Rio: Rio wants to stay with everyone more! Rio wants to play with everyone a lot more! But... Rio is...
• Innocently Insensitive: She has no problems calling people that are clearly older than her without honorifics (such as Kotori and Marina). This is considered rude in Japan, and especially notable as she likes to give people nicknames, and some of those nicknames do use honorifics correctly, so Rio certainly knows how to use honorifics.
• Late-Arrival Spoiler: Rio casually talks about Eden, which is a major spoiler for Rinne Utopia.
• MacGuffin: What Rio calls "the most important thing." She needs it because it's the key to fully restore Eden. It's a duplicate of Shido's housekey, Rinne's Tragic Keepsake from the previous Eden. Whether or not Rio gets it depends entirely on Shido's choice.
• My Death Is Just the Beginning: If she gets her hands on "the most important thing", Eden shall be fully restored (likely more powerful than before, now with more Spirits around) and Rio will disappear. Before doing so though, she will choose her Guardian - Marina - as the next Ruler.
• Nice Girl: Just like her Mama, she has a kind personality.
• Pure Magic Being: Just like Rinne. However, she differs as she is only Eden's function to search for the key to complete itself. She is nowhere as powerful as her mother was, and will disappear once Eden is complete.
• Red Baron: As Rio shares her Angel with Rinne, her Eden is also referred as "Paradise of Calamity"
• Red Eyes, Take Warning: Unlike Rinne, Rio's eyes are perpetually red. However, Rio is not nearly as dangerous as Rinne was, downplaying this trope.
• Reincarnation: In Rinne's alternate ending, where Shido decides to stay in Eden, Rio is eventually reincarnated as their actual daughter.
• Ret-Gone: If she cannot find her "most important thing" to complete Eden in seven days, she will be Ret Goned, alongside Rinne (and, albeit without being forgotten, Marina as well). This happens in the true ending, Rinne's own route.
• Shipper on Deck: In contrast to her mother's role as a Harem Nanny. Rio excitedly and actively encourages her Papa and Mama to do "romantic things" as often as possible. Being an innocent child... this goes as well as you'd expect. In the sixth day, Rio even asks Shido and Rinne to have bath together, not even understanding why they shouldn't do it.
• Sleep Cute: Twice, first on Maria's lap during day 5, second in Rinne's arms as Rio and her parents sleep together during day 6.
• Strong Family Resemblance: As befitting of her origin, Rio shares a lot of traits with Rinne. They are both Rulers of the Angel Eden, and look similar for the most part, except that Rio looks younger, has purple hair instead of pink, her Astral Dress is mostly lavish-red instead of purple, and wears a ribbon instead of a headdress.
• Third-Person Person: Rio refers to herself as Rio, this is likely justified by the fact she's a child.
• Token Mini-Moe: Her height is never specified, but she is at least shorter than Kotori and Yoshino, around child height.
• Undying Loyalty: To Shido and Rinne. Despite her All-Loving Hero tendencies, Rio is ultimately loyal to her parents. This is best shown in the true ending; Rio clearly doesn't understand why Shido rejected Eden before and again in the present day, and she is made even more confused seeing Rinne's support for his decision. Despite this, Rio doesn't resent either of them, and accepts the futility of her efforts with a smile on her face as she disappears.
• Walking Spoiler: Not as bad as Rinne before her, but knowing what she actually is and why does she refer to Shido and Rinne as her parents are massive spoilers for the ending of each route.
• Younger and Hipper: She seems to be this in comparison to her mother's Ruler form. Rio essentially looks like a younger version of Rinne, and her Astral Dress doesn't show any skin whatsoever, she even wears a pantyhose to cover anything that her clothes don't.
• Your Days Are Numbered: No matter what, Rio will disappear in the seventh day of the new Eden. Either because Eden awakens fully and a new Ruler is chosen, which occurs in most endings, or because she cannot find "the most important thing" and thus unable to complete Eden in time, which occurs in the true ending. This only gets averted in Rinne's alternate route, after Rio's reincarnation into Shido and Rinne's daughter.

• The Bus Came Back: After the last reference given to her was her appearance as part of Ain Soph Aur, she returns as one of the returning characters in Ren Dystopia.
• Canon Foreigner: Created solely for the movie.
• Canon Immigrant: Sort of. She appears in Volume 18 as part of Mio Takamiya's Angel; Ain Soph Aur, which appears as a flower containing her silhouette at the center of the petals.
• Composite Character: In-universe example. She was created from the Spirits' energy and memories, which means she also shares their feelings for Shido.
• Dope Slap: Gives several "Judgment" whacks on the head in Ren Dystopia. She jogs Shido's memory of Rinne (who initially only remembers her as Phantom's disguise), makes Origami switch to her new timeline self, and knocks Marina out cold for being insensitive to Ren (which leads to Maria resurfacing).

• Ambition Is Evil: Kaguya's ambition to become Isaac Westcott and later cause the destruction of the multiverse is pretty much the reason why she turned into the Big Bad. She has ambitions, and is not going to give on them simply because she found a new family to comfort her loneliness.
• Ax-Crazy: Even more so than her inspiration, Isaac Westcott. While Westcott was able to control his sadism and psychotic side, Kaguya could barely hide it from her victims. She regularly directs massacres for sheer pleasure, and laughs when she thinks about how joyful is to kill humans and destroy worlds after making all its inhabitant suffer before killing them in the most brutal ways. Her greatest hobby is to nothing more than betraying others to feel their despair and hurting their loved ones to see them in pain. Her sadism is so great that one wonder if she was truly inspired by Westcott or was even worse.
• Badass Boast: There is a moment she openly challenges EVERY single hero around her to fight her. The quote is so memorable that a black screen accompanied her words.
  Kaguya: "I'm an union of every Spirit's information. I could mutilate you by sword, or exterminate you by light, or immolate you with flames. I can you kill in one billion different forms... or maybe I could use the power of Nightmare to go back in time for the second time. But I'll give you a reward for unmasking me. Gods and Familia alike, try stopping me."
• Beauty Is Bad: Kaguya was already beautiful but with Impostor Kaguya, she easily becomes one of the most attractive characters of the setting. Also its most rotten.
• Big Bad: The main antagonist of Memoria Freese - Ais Catastrophe. Kaguya was the mastermind who teleported the heroes of Date A Live's universe to Danmachi's world, was the responsible for turning the Loki Familia on the Spirits, the vicious Spirit who caused Ais' inversion and almost destroyed the world of Orario and the multiverse of both worlds. Moreover, Kaguya was the first most evil antagonist to the game while Memoria Freese's first crossover with Attack on Titan had the tragic Bertolt Hoover, the Colossal Titan as the primary threat. By comparison, Kaguya puts Bertolt to shame.
• Blood Knight: She loves chaos and destruction solely for its own sake; she has nothing to prove and hopes to accomplish nothing. She just wants to screw everyone and everything. She has no targets or specific places. Everything she can touches can be used to entertain her. She takes this to an insane level that not even Westcott can be compared.
• Blow You Away: Impersonating Kaguya gives her similar control over wind. Kurumi figures out that she's the one who turned Ais into an Inverse Spirit because they both have affinity for wind.
• Card-Carrying Villain: The most evil Spirit that appeared so far in Date A Live while her predecessors were all redeemed at some point. Kaguya was a Spirit with complete and utter obsession with death, genocide, despair and destruction, and even stating she sees the multiverse as her plaything to travel and destroy worlds with her heart's content. She loves sorrow in any and all of its aspects; even if she is the one suffering or having her own life at risk provokes nothing but glee and excitement.
• Chained by Fashion: There is a reason why she impersonated Kaguya, including her Astral Dress. Kaguya's Astral Dress is mainly the color purple and has chains on her right hand and foot.
• Chaos Is Evil: Her primary goal is to unleash total chaos upon the world of Orario to torment and destroy all races, including the Gods of said world. After that, she plans to cause the same in other worlds without limits in her quest to bring more pain, despair and destruction to the multiverse.
• Cold-Blooded Torture: She subjected Bell Cranel to this, breaking his bones and ripping his flesh in the process. Fortunately for him, Shido managed to save him. Not only physically torturing Bell but also exposed him to psychological torture by breaking his determination.
• Combat Sadomasochist: Not different from Isaac Westcott in this point. She obviously enjoys hurting and killing others, but also deeply enjoys being hurt on the process even while Bell and Shido are beating her within an inch of her life. In her last moments, she laughs insanely as she finally experienced the feeling of death, like her inspiration who begged to experience such feeling.
• Die Laughing: As a straight sadomasochist and nihilist, there is no better way to go. After she was sliced by the combined forces of Bell and Shido, she laughs insanely as the Grim Reaper arrives to take her soul to the underworld of Orario's world. While this might be a bad ending for the villain, for Isaac Ray Peram Westcott and Kaguya Westcott, there is no better fate.
• Dragged Off to Hell: Once the heroes destroy her, the Grim Reaper arrives to drag her soul down to the underworld.
• Empty Eyes: Like Isaac Westcott, Kaguya's eyes are red and empty to the point one could say she was brainwashed or even dead. However, veteran readers of Date A Live knows perfectly what dead and dull eyes means in-universe. People with eyes plunged into darkness are living beings who has no shred of humanity or kindness. And Westcott is the only person who possesses such eyes. And like Westcott, they also show how much she's absolutely insane.
• Evil Counterpart: If there is any other Spirit born from the Reiryoku of other Spirits sealed by Shido, it's Mayuri who was born from pure Reiryoku that Tohka, Yoshino, Kotori, Kaguya, Yuzuru, and Miku unconsciously emitted due to their stress and desire to have Shido all to themselves during the events of Mayuri Judgment film. Mayuri, however, was a calm and gentle girl that rarely shows her emotions while Kaguya was energetic and foul-mouthed to the point of arrogance. Mayuri was born innocent like Kaguya but instead of loving Shido like the other Spirits, Kaguya was a Spirit who admired the worst human alive, Isaac Westcott and decided to become him.
• Evil Feels Good: Kaguya is this to the extreme, so much that she makes even the Evil Gods from Danmachi world look like saints in comparison. Not only she enjoys the suffering of humans but also loves corrupting them to unleash their inhuman side. Her entire fighting style revolves around Cold-Blooded Torture, and she constantly goes out of her way to ensure her enemies die in pain and despair before crushing their sanity. A perfect example is when she tortured Bell in front of everyone after calling him a loser and weak for never being able to save Ais.
• Evil Plan: Kaguya is a evil entity who is not above hiding her true intentions. When the Loki Familia asked what was her purpose after hurting so many people, she simply responds she is causing destruction for the fun of it as stated by her quote above. After that, she plans to do the same to other worlds across the multiverse.
• Evil Sounds Deep: After revealing her true colors, her voice tumbles down compared to the actual Kaguya (or Lili, who shares her voice actress).
• Face Death with Dignity: Unsurprisingly, given she's a nihilist and has no real attachment to her life. For her, as long she lives, she will continue her vicious plan to plunge the multiverse in chaos. But if she dies... well, she dies and it's over. Without any resentments or long hate speeches.
• Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: In the case of the original Kaguya, she had the face of an angel with the mind of a jerk. But in the case of the Spirit Amalgam who impersonated her, she had a lovely and alluring face with a psychotic, hideous and manipulative mind.
• Faux Affably Evil: Like Kaguya, she is usually childish and immature. She often speaks rather unrealistically, as if she is acting to pass the image she is confident and strong, and therefore must act appropriately to gain the trust of Bell and his party. Despite her immature behavior, she is actually very caring and soft. However, this is nothing but a facade to hide her true colors. Once she showed her true intentions, she even tried to act like an innocent person by using a cute and kind voice to break Liliruca while saying why she pretended to be her sister. As if it wasn't enough, she even said what she was going to do to her once she kills her; bury her head in cold blood. Once she was in her full psychotic mode, she was literally another character.
• For the Evulz: She could easily destroy the world and collect the remaining Sephira Crystals of the Spirits immediately after manifesting her true power but decides to drag things out so she can enjoy watching the heroes suffer after losing their friends and family. Her only reason to live are the total suffering of all living things, including Gods.
• From Nobody to Nightmare: When she was born, she was just a clueless and innocent Spirit who didn't know nothing about life and the world. However, the first thing she saw in this world were the terrible atrocities and crimes of the series' main antagonist, Isaac Ray Peram Wescott. Once she witnessed his darkness and madness, she became... somewhat his fan and decided to become like him.
• The Hyena: All that evil laughing at her evil deeds; all the time.
• Knight of Cerebus: Things were already serious even before she appeared after she turned Ais into an Inverse Spirit but it was only later revealed that she was behind everything that happened so far. Not only does she beat out Kurumi as the most "evil" Spirit, the humor level drops at the very moment she reveals herself. From there on, the story is dark and horrifying with psychological torment and creepy scenarios. And by a far extension, she's also one of the most vile foes Bell and Shido faced, making her name in both worlds of Date A Live and Danmachi.
• Ms. Fanservice: From all Spirits teleported to Orario world, Kaguya is obviously the Spirit with the most revealing Astral Dress that exposes almost all of her skin. Her entire lower half of her body has a half skirt around her waist which drops to the knees and opens around her thighs. Even in the original canon story, Kaguya's Astral Dress was already considered to be a Dominatrix style outfit.
• Omnicidal Maniac: Surpasses Westcott in this regard as she decided to become the ruler of all existence by tearing apart the multiverse and killing all gods in existence for nothing more but experience the despair of all living things.
• Physical Goddess: Not really a Goddess but a Spirit, but considering the power level of both worlds, Spirits are considered to be God-like beings to the people of Orario. And Kaguya, as a Spirit born from the Reiryoku of all Spirits from DAL world, is literally a living disaster able to destroy entire countries with no difficulty using spacequakes.
• Psychopathic Womanchild: Acts like a very spoiled girl who throws a fit whenever things don't go her way, repeatedly setting up rules to "beat" her only to immediately break them when she in disadvantage. Indeed, she acts like the original Kaguya, a childish teenage girl with problems to keep acting strong... but this Kaguya takes this to another level. She not only reacted violently to critiscism and refused to let others tell her what to do but also sees everything existing for her sake and inflicts betrayal purely because she loves the expression on her victim's face when their friends and family are turned against them.
• Redemption Rejection. She wouldn't be a copycat of Westcott if she hadn't done this. She is completely unrepentant of everything she's done to Liliruca and Ais, and everyone else she's ever crossed.
• Red Eyes, Take Warning: Once she was exposed, her eyes don't only turn red, but she's also revealed to be one of the most vile foes Bell and Shido faced.
• Sadist: And how so. Kaguya really enjoys making others suffer to experience their negative feelings: anger, despair, fear and hatred. She often smiles and laughs as she slaughters and torture people by the score. She also appears to get off on being a Manipulative Bitch, and can't resist the urge to gloat to her enemies that she's literally signed their death warrant, or take cruel pleasure in discarding and betraying her own friends and allies, even her new sister, Liliruca.
• The Sociopath: Different from Isaac Westcott who is sane and still has human feelings, Kaguya has absolutely no compassion whatsoever. She kills in droves without remorse. She manipulates people at every turn. And she does it all for the sake of causing cruelty at her own amusement.
• Straw Nihilist: A woman devoid of any compassion or hold for life. Many of Kaguya's beliefs run consistent with nihilism, as she does not see any meaning to life, be the lives of her "friends", enemies, sister and the entire multiverse. She sees her actions as a child's play, even if said game results in the loss of lives, her very own included.
• The Unfettered: There is nothing she won't do to achieve her dream of spreading war, chaos and destruction; she has no limits of any kind.
• Walking Spoiler: She is the mastermind behind the events of the crossover who teleported Shido and his harem to the world of Orario with the intention of using Ais to destroy the multiverse. Originally born a pure and innocent Spirit, she grew to admire Isaac Westcott and his atrocities, leading to her copying his personality on her own free will.

• Card-Carrying Villain: Once she turns on Shido and her contractors, she proclaims to have been born a villain, so it's just natural for her to trick and kill people.
• Curtains Match the Window: Purple hair with purple eyes.
• Disappears into Light: Ren's body dissolves into light after she's sealed by Shido in the final route.
• Enemy Without: She is the embodiment of Mio's sorrow and hatred brought on by Shinji Takamiya's death.
• Evil Knockoff: After stealing Reiryoku from all the sealed Spirits, she gains a dark version of Mio's Astral Dress.
• Good Scars, Evil Scars: Ren has two running down her eyes.
• Hellish Pupils: Her glowing white pupils as a Spirit are also slit.
• Impossibly-Low Neckline: Her Astral Dress exposes her shoulders and cleavage.
• Jackass Genie: Ren often twists the words in her contractor's wishes so as to keep them coming back for more wishes when they're dissatisfied. She's also secretly absorbing their Reiryoku and attempts to kill them once they've used up all three wishes.
• Meaningful Name: Samael means "Poison of God". Her Angel is considered poisonous because it sucks out her contractor's Reiryoku for her to take once she's done granting wishes.
• Pure Magic Being: Like Rinne and Mayuri (who could be considered her sisters), she has no human base and disappears when she kisses Shido to seal herself.
• Sealed Evil in a Can: Mio was so afraid of her that she not only sealed her power, but put her in the gap between the world and the neighboring world. Shido and Kurumi messing with time brought her back into the world, and she sucks out Reiryoku from her contractors to regain her power.
• Technicolor Eyes: Her eyes have a golden tint similar to Tohka's.
• Then Let Me Be Evil: Mio sealed her away out of fear that she would eventually pose a threat to Shido. Once she's unsealed, she decides to do just that as payback.
• Villain: Exit, Stage Left: In most of the good endings, she'll suddenly disappear once the Spirit for that route turns the tables on her.
• Walking Spoiler: Her backstory heavily foreshadows Shido's relationship with Mio.
