Chaos is a powerful and unpredictable energy that can chaorrupt (short for "chaos corrupt") objects and beings. It is a recurring theme of AQ Worlds and controlled by Drakath and his 13 Lords of Chaos. Lords of Chaos try to summon the Chaos Beasts

As always, the opposite of Chaos is, in fact, Order. And while Order magic makes almost no appearance in the main universe, the Mirror Realm includes Drakath The Champion of Order, and his friends, the Lords of Order.

Also, as revealed by the Void Larva in the Void, as well as the Great Void Dragon itself, the closest magic related to Chaos magic is Void magic - which is exactly why the Void Dragon entrusted the Lords of Chaos with four different colored Void Spheres needed to unlock the door to its lair.

Tropes that most people and creatures affiliated with Chaos have in common:

  • Chaos Is Evil: Most chaorrupted beings are evil in the traditional sense (with Drakath being the evillest of all), but can be subverted, as Wolfwing proves. As well as Kimberly, Khasaanda and Iadoa. Even the Good Hero can subvert this with the Chaos items and classes. According to King Alteon, Chaos by its very nature cannot be good or evil. The reason it has been causing so much harm is because of the way Drakath has been shaping it.
  • The Corruption: Chaorruption, a portmanteau of Chaos Corruption, is the usual term. Chaos seeks to spread and infect other beings. There is no known cure, save death and an ancient, single use artifact called the Tears of The Mother.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: One of the first and most disturbing signs of Chaorruption is bloodshot purple eyes growing out of the afflicted's skin.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Sometimes a Chaos-infected individual will sport glowing purple eyes when they get angry or are feeling evil.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Chaos infection sometimes comes with demon like wings.
  • Hades Shaded: While no NPC or monster shows up with this (Except Drakath) some armors show that chaos infection also make the infected person unnaturally black in shade
  • Horned Humanoid: Some people who are infected become this.
  • Our Demons Are Different: While some infected people and creatures are not demons (Well except for Slugfit and Faust) they closely resemble classical demons by having horns and demonic looking wings and some have it have and some don't.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Chaos magic is the strongest, most virulent magic known, and its signature color is purple.
  • Purple Is the New Black: The Chaos whispers assert that everything looks good in purple!
  • Third Eye: Chaorruption likes giving these out. And fourth ones, and fifth ones, and...
  • The Virus
  • Winged Humanoid: Some who are infected get demonic looking wings
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: According to Iadoa, fighting Chaos is like letting acid flow through your veins. But embracing it rewards the victim with both power and madness.

The Rulers of Chaos
    Drakath, Champion of Chaos

Drakath, Champion of Chaos

Drakath is the Big Bad of AdventureQuest Worlds. He leads the 13 Lords of Chaos. After being abandoned by the Queen of Monsters following his defeat, which was required in order for her to truly be free, he starts fighting against the Queen and builds the Chaos Militia in his new stronghold in Crownsreach, with Cemaros serving as his current right-hand woman.

Associated tropes:

  • Achilles' Heel: By far the best weapon to use to kill him is the Chaorrupter, which can only be gotten off the High Chaos Knight from the Chaos War zone. When combined with the Chaos Slayer class, this combination will wreck his face VERY, VERY BADLY.
  • Adaptational Badass: This version of Drakath is the most powerful one yet. In stark contrast to being an undead dragon, or a minion of Sepulchure. He is the Champion of Chaos, the Big Bad rather than The Dragon, and hands down the strongest character for a vast portion of the game.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Drakath has always been a villain, but this is a much eviler Drakath than any other version, and has a much larger role in the greater scheme of things.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: The Darkblood Primarch reveals that Drakath has actually become Chaos.
  • Arch-Enemy:
    • To the Hero, being the one to resist Drakath at every turn and indirectly responsible for his downfall.
    • To Gravelyn, for killing her father and therefore she has sworn vengeance on him.
    • He himself cites Alteon and Sepulchure both as this to him. Alteon for killing his father and taking away his kingdom which he believed was his birth right, and Sepulchure for the years of humiliating servitude he put him through.
    • He seems to consider a "pesky DragonLord" to be this to, which is the Hero of DragonFable and an Alternate Self of the AdventureQuest Worlds Hero.
  • Bad Boss: Is revealed to be this to Pettivox during the Magic Thief event as he does not take Pettivox's defeat lightly. Also, he specifically wants each of his Chaos Lords to be defeated so long as they summon their Chaos Beast first.
  • Big Bad: Of the 13 Lords of Chaos arc, masterminding the entire plan to release the Queen of Monsters, his secret master.
  • The Champion: He is The Champion of Chaos.
  • The Chessmaster: Hatched a very complex plan involving 13 Lords of Chaos to release the Queen of Monsters.
  • Composite Character: He is both his AdventureQuest Dragon Self and his DragonFable Human Self since he has his AQ Dragon Wings and possibly his AQ Strength and he has his DF Human Appearance.
  • The Corrupter: He can Chaorrupt others into being his Chaos minions.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Drakath finally gets to show off his true power during the Chaos finale, and holy crap does he ever. Not only does he utterly wreck Shadowfall again and come within a hair of finishing off Gravelyn, but he also one-shots both Stalagbite and Vordred when they rise to oppose him during the final battle.
  • Depower: He defeats The Hero over and over again, but ultimately loses because the Mother of All Monsters needs him to. She then strips him of his status as the Champion of Chaos.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: He successfully slays The Hero in his/her true form as the Eternal Dragon of Time. And then he takes control of Death himself to prevent The Hero from simply coming back again.
  • Entitled Bastard: His main motive. His father, King Slugwrath, managed to conquer the entire world with an alliance of monsters. As a result, Drakath saw the world as his birthright. But King Alteon overthrew his father. As a result, Drakath became a bandit in an attempt to reclaim his throne, and he eventually became the Champion of Chaos.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He helps the hero defeat Ledgermayne and convert it back into the raw mana from which it was made, both to punish it for its disobedience and to stop it from destroying all life on Lore.
  • Evil Counterpart: To The Hero. As a side effect of the process that created The Hero, Drakath gained the attributes of his own alternate counterparts and both of their destinies are tied.
  • Evil Gloating: After defeating The Hero, Drakath proceeds to gloat about The Hero's imminent death and the identity of his final Chaos Lord.
  • Evil Laugh: Has started to do this more and more as the Chaos Saga nears its end.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: A giant one on his chest.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Went from being Sepulchure's Butt-Monkey servant and a failed Starscream in DragonFable to the physical embodiment of Chaos itself.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Massive dark violet bat wings.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: Your first battle against Drakath on Mount Doomskull (originally in the Chaos Realm but later Retconned) is one of these in spades. He possesses an insurmountable number of Hit Points, every attack you land on him does Scratch Damage, and he eventually unleashes a One-Hit Kill on you. At which point the game moves on to a cutscene, showing the Hero's defeat. He continues to defeat the Hero time and time again. He ultimately only loses due to his mistress requiring it.
  • Manipulative Bastard
  • Necromancer: The end of the Etherstorm saga shows that Drakath can use his Chaos powers to create undead much like a necromancer — which he does by transforming the remains of Desoloth into quite possibly the most powerful Dracolich in current existence.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: He claims to be strong enough to destroy the entire world with a wave of his hand. He probably isn't exaggerating.
  • Pet the Dog: He gives Sally Vordred's head after he was slain then flies off. Though he probably does have his own agenda.
  • Physical God: Remember how an injured Sepulchure fought at the same strength as your planet-destroying dragon in DragonFable Drakath curbstomps him and Alteon at the same time without even breaking a sweat. It's also mentioned in the Thunderforge arc that Drakath is no longer human, and is now the living incarnation of Chaos itself.
  • Reality Warper: He was able to temporarily warp the world such that Sepulchure was not defeated by him.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Cemaros' red. Drakath is more composed and expresses annoyance with things in a manner of calmness, wheras his current right-hand woman Cemaros is much louder and more upbeat and cheerful.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: His past is the same as the Drakath from DragonFable, up until the point Dragon Drakath is defeated by the Hero and Sepulchure combined. DF Drakath succumbed to his wounds and died, while AQW Drakath was spared this fate where just before he was about to die he stared into the Chaos Amulet around his neck and became the Champion of Chaos.
  • Stable Time Loop: Thanks to the events of the 3rd Birthday event, young Drakath—after being saved by the hero and having a great adventure with him—vows that he will become strong no matter what the cost. Also, he also wishes to meet up with the hero again.
  • Superboss: His Ultra Boss variant has two forms, the first in his regular form and the second in his Prime form. The first form boosts the damage of his power each time he unleashes a destructive attack with every 2,000,000 HP lost, while the second does the same thing but also gains evasion each time as well. When he gets down to his last 2,000,000 HP, he'll start charging an attack that, if he's not finished off in time, can cause an instant total party kill. If you can get enough Insignias by defeating him, you can merge them into a Parallel Chaos Amulet, which is just one of the items you'll need in order to unlock the Chaos Avenger class.
  • The Battle Didn't Count: The outcome of your second boss fight with him.
  • Truly Single Parent: He is said to use Chaos Magic to create Chaos Lord Ledgermayne when he states that his chaos magic unexpectedly give the Chaos Lord life.
  • Unreliable Narrator: In his recounting of his backstory, he goes over the events of Book 1 DragonFable but with him changing significant details such as him gathering all the generals for Drakath including Sek-Duat, the pirates, and ninjas (which did not happen as all these factions opposed Sepulchure), while claiming he gathered all of the Elemental Orbs himself (Drakath failed to gather any, with the Wind Orb being the most notable failure as he turned tail and ran, while others were collected by Sepulchure himself or his spies). A message then pops up saying if the Player wanted to play through what actually happened they should click the link to the game itself.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: The 3rd birthday event reveals that thanks to the hero saving him from the collector, Drakath vows to get power no matter what the cost so he wouldn't be captured or hurt again.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Starts to lose it when the hero returns from the dead as both Death and the Eternal Dragon of Time. His Superboss version that you unlock upon completion of the Chaos storyline starts charging up an instant-death attack while screaming that he will not lose everything again when his HP is nearing depletion.
  • Villainous Crush: He once had one on Princess Victoria.
  • Villainous Rescue: He's saved the hero twice. The first one was from Nessie, unknowingly. The second was giving the Supreme Arcane Staff enough Chaos Magic to obliterate Ledgermayne.
  • Was Once a Man: He once was human, but that is no longer the case.
  • Why Won't You Die?: Drakath's last words before the Hero finally takes him down basically amount to the "how many times do I have to kill you?!" variety of this.
  • Winged Humanoid
  • Worthy Opponent: Both the Hero and Drakath consider the other to be this. It's the primary thing, other than how it will affect the timestream, that keeps an Evil Hero from killing kid Drakath.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He certainly doesn't have a problem punching Khasaanda when she tries to kill him. Or trying to kill Gravelyn.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Drakath doesn't just not care if all his Chaos Lords are defeated. He actually wants them to be defeated after they unleash their Chaos Beasts because this is a requirement for unleashing the Mother of All Monsters upon Lore. He ultimately tells the 13th Lord of Chaos these very words before killing them and he later kills the last two surviving Chaos Lords.

The 13 Lords of Chaos
There are a total of 13 Chaos Lords (with extra ones appearing after the end of the 13 Lords of Chaos Saga) and all thirteen of them serve Drakath, the Champion of Chaos. The 13 Chaos Lords are the secondary antagonists of lore, the primary being Drakath. Their purpose is to find and awaken their corresponding Chaos Beast, scattered all around Lore

Tropes that The Chaos Lords have in common:

  • Arc Villain: Each major story arc (with the exception of Doomwood) had a Chaos Lord as the main villain except for Khasaanda who did not make trouble in Bloodtusk.
    • Escherion - Chiral Valley
    • Vath - Dwarfhold
    • Kitsune - Yokai
    • Wolfwing - Darkovia
    • Discordia and Kimberly - Mythsong Canyon
    • Ledgermayne - Arcangrove
    • Tibicenas - Sandsea
    • Krellenos and Khasaanda - Bloodtusk Ravine
    • Iadoa - The ChronoSpan
    • Lionfang - Thunderforge
    • King Alteon - Swordhaven
    • The Hero - World War Lore
    • Beleen - Drearia / Pastelia
  • Co-Dragons: All the Chaos Lords are this to Drakath, except for Beleen, who didn't become a Chaos Lord herself until after his defeat.
  • Fallen Hero: All of the first thirteen Chaos Lords qualify as this. They were heroes in a previous version of reality who sealed the Mother of All Monsters into the Chaos Realm. But in the current version of events, most of them were evil to begin with and become her Unwitting Pawns. And even those who weren't eventually succumb to the madness of Chaos.
  • Reincarnation: In spite of appearances, neither the number of Chaos Lords, nor the Chaos Lords themselves were chosen at random. All of them are actually recreations of the same heroes who originally defeated the Mother of All Monsters in a previous version of reality.
  • She Is the King: The Female Chaos Lords are called Lord rather then Lady. Beleen, of course, is called a Chaos Queen.
  • 13 Is Unlucky: At least for the 13 Lords of Chaos saga. And then we have the "Chaos Queen Beleen" event, which introduced an extra Chaos Lord.

    Escherion

Escherion

The First Lord of Chaos, Escherion is a powerful Chaos sorcerer with the power to invert people and things using the Staff of Inversion.

Associated tropes:

  • Cool Helmet
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Got defeated by his own Inversion magic and turned into a frog.
  • Homage: According to the Design Notes, Artix mentions that Escherion and Chiral Valley was based on M.C. Esher's works.
  • Killed Off for Real: Smashed into a froggy smear under Drakath's armored boot during the final battle, just to further cement the latter as an utter bastard. He is the last Chaos Lord to die as a requirement for the Mother of All Monsters's release.
  • Laughably Evil: He gets a rather funny moment at the end of the 'Chiral Valley' story-arc when The Hero 'uses' the mirror he/she found in the Cornelis Ruins to reflect his inversion spell right back at him and make him invert his own powers, causing him to suffer the Humiliation Conga of using his own spells on himself and eventually polymorph himself into a harmless frog.
  • Obviously Evil: He has Chaorrupted skulls on his shoulder plates and necklace, and even has Spikes of Villainy on said shoulder plates. And he hides his face within his hooded helmet, only showing his Glowing Eyes of Doom.
  • Smug Snake: He's manipulative of his minions who're looking for the three pieces of the Runix Cube, and is arrogant enough to be confident that no one is a match for his Staff of Inversion. He thinks of his staff a lot and says he doesn't need it to swat the "flies" as he calls the heroes, although the staff is loyal to him and can protect him of its own free will, which implies his invulnerability as long as the staff is alive.
  • Squishy Wizard

    Xing and Xang

Xing and Mirror Xang

Once the Good and Bad Angels of Lore, Xing and Xang became the Second Lords of Chaos when Drakath got hold of them. As revealed during the Bloodtusk saga, Drakath replaced the good Xang with her Mirror Realm opposite, making both of the Angels evil.

Associated tropes:

  • Achilles' Heel: The humble Healer class has a main attack skill called Heartbeat that does more damage the more health you have. When Xang gives you loads of health during the fight with their Fusion Dance form of Xiang, your damage with that skill goes through the roof, and you can defeat Xiang quite easily.
  • The Chessmasters: Very skilled in manipulation.
  • Co-Dragons: To Drakath
  • Fusion Dance: Xing and Xang merge, becoming known as chaos lord Xiang, right before you finally confront them. Notably, this actually backfires somewhat, as the original good Xang was the one who merged with Xing, and not mirror Xang. During the bossfight, she actually casts healing magic on you even while fighting with you
  • Good Angel, Bad Angel: At least before Angel Xang got replaced with Mirror Xang.
  • Light Is Not Good: Xang the Angel Twin - when Drakath transforms her, she is shown to be more evil than Xing the Devil It turns out that this is because Drakath replaced the good Xang with her very evil 'counterpart' from the Mirror Realm.
  • Manipulative Bastards: And HOW!
  • Mama Bear: In a previous version of reality, the two sisters had children, but they were murdered by The Mother of All Monsters. To get revenge, they created a beast to seal her away
  • Shout-Out: Xing and Xang, Yin and Yang? Ring any bells?
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Indeed. And they do not get along. Though in a previous version of reality, they were actually quite close.

    Chaos Dragonlord Vath

Chaos Dragonlord Vath

A powerful and exceptionally cruel Drow warlord, Vath is the Third Lord of Chaos. He and his forces are responsible for the enslavement of Dwarfhold. He commands a powerful chaorrupted dragon known as Stalagbite through means of a Chaos Dragon Amulet and the legendary Sword of Dragon Control given to him by Drakath himself.

Associated tropes:

  • Bad Boss: He is very abusive to his fellow drow, not caring for their suffering at all.
  • Cool Sword: His Legendary Sword of Dragon Control.
  • Dual Boss: The final battle of Dwarfhold pits you against both Vath and Stalagbite. Attacking Vath first will lead to Stalagbite curb-stomping you for quad-digit damage.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: As much of a bastard he is it's revealed he has a daughter who considers him to be a "loving father".
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: When the hero breaks Vath's Dragon Amulet with the Legendary Sword of Dragon Control, Vath's dragon, Stalagbite, turns against him.
  • Killed Offscreen: His death is not shown, but since the resurrection of the Mother of All Monsters required it, he has presumably been slain.
  • Oh, Crap!: When he realizes that Stalagbite has turned against him after both his Chaos Dragon Amulet and Legendary Sword of Dragon Control are destroyed through the hero's Accidental Aiming Skills.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes turn red when he's angered.
  • Smug Snake: Was like this until...
    • This Cannot Be!: "What?! Impossible. Those useless... filthy... I don't believe you."
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: Inverted. The hero throws Vath's own sword at him, shattering both it and his Chaos Dragon Amulet and therefore frees Stalagbite from his mind prison.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When he realizes that his Drow soldiers are losing the battle, he becomes extremely pissed off. Cue Red Eyes, Take Warning.

    Chaos Shogun Kitsune

Chaos Shogun Kitsune

Kitsune is the Fourth Lord of Chaos. Once a kind and peaceful fox-spirit, Kitsune was part of the 'divine' protection which guarded Yokai Island against all outsiders, including Chaos. He worked as a partner to the Emperor, and Yokai, humans and monsters lived together in harmony for centuries. But when the Emperor decided to extend the island's hospitality to the rest of Lore, Kitsune did not share his kindness, and wanted more than anything to restore Yokai Island to its secluded sanctuary. When Drakath came to him, the once peaceful spirit was turned into an epitome of Chaos. He has placed the Emperor under his trance and now seeks to revive the powerful O-dokuro and make the Yokai, the masters of everyone in Lore.

Associated tropes:

  • Affably Evil
  • Animal Motifs: Foxes. Kitsune is a Japanese Fox, and he also can transform into a 'giant' shadow fox.
  • The Chessmaster: He planned to steal the Hanzamune Blade after the hero defeated Ryoku.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: He wore a white robe before he was a Chaos Lord. While white is the color of purity and goodness in western culture, it is also the colour of death in Japanese and Chinese culture.
  • Cool Helmet: He wears a shogun type helmet.
  • Four Is Death: Kitsune is the 'Fourth' Chaos Lord plus he hails from the Japanese-themed Yokai Island. Makes perfect sense as the number four is considered unlucky in both Japanese and Chinese superstitions.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: The Hanzamune Blade, which Kitsune wants to use to open a rift between Lore and the Yokai realm.
  • Killed Offscreen: His death is not shown, but since the resurrection of the Mother of All Monsters required it, he has presumably been slain.
  • Legacy Character: Of Okuchi No Okami from DragonFable.
  • Manipulative Bastard
  • Mind Control: On Ai-No-Miko's father, the Emperor of Akiba.
  • Pet the Dog: To his fellow Yokai.
  • Samurai: When Kitsune wears his Chaos Shogun armor, he looks very much like one of these.
  • Shout-Out: His armor is based on Shredder's from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as told by Artix himself.
  • Super-Speed: Can move extremely fast.
  • This Cannot Be!: Once again he gets a moment like this when the hero 'accidentally' tears open a rift in front of him that sucks him in and takes him back to the Yokai-monster world.
  • The Trickster: He's quite fond of illusion, trickery and lies.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Originally he felt the foreign visitors to Yokai Isle posed a threat to his fellow Yokai. Though this seems to get twisted after he is chaorrupted and wants to overthrow humanity itself.
  • Youkai: Yup.

    Wolfwing

Wolfwing

Wolfwing is the Fifth Lord of Chaos found in Darkovia. He was a man who was bitten by a large Werewolf and left to die. Queen Safiria took pity on him and bit him as well, but the bites had mixed in and thus gave a re-energised Wolfwing his form as a ''Werepyre'', half Werewolf and Vampire! He seeks to turn both werewolves and vampires alike into his Werepyres so he wouldn't be so lonely (due to his hybrid appearance, he was outcast by both the clans).

Associated tropes:

    Discordia

Discordia and Kimberly

Discordia is a brilliant musician who was working on the ultimate song, that would win over the heart of anyone who heard it. According to Don Giovanni, Drakath then appeared and offered Discordia a powerful shortcut, which he accepted. He can now use his music to not only win over hearts and minds, but control them.

But as it turns out, Discordia isn't the Sixth Lord of Chaos. During the finale event featuring the band One Eyed Doll, it transpires that Discordia is being controlled himself, by none other than One Eyed Doll's front-girl, Kimberly Freeman, who it turns out is the real Chaos Lord. After defeating her, it's learned that she was herself being controlled by Drakath, who sung a Chaos tune that got stuck in her head and turned her Brainwashed and Crazy. She gets better.

Associated tropes:

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Discordia uses his music to brainwash people. In reality, he was brainwashed by Kimberly, who herself had a Chaos Tune stuck in her head by Drakath.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Dicordia is pretty much not evil but mind controlled. Same can be said about Kimberly who has is also mind controlled and even her make up as well as her red and black motif invokes the trope.
  • Decoy Antagonist: Discordia was presented as the Chaos Lord of Mythsong, but the real culprit turns out to be Kimberely.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Kimberly is one of the only two Chaos Lords to date who has joined the heroes' side after being defeated.
  • Ear Worm: The Chaos tune that Kimberly had stuck in her head.
  • Expy: Discordia looks similar to the Phantom of the Opera.
  • Killed Offscreen: Her death is not shown, but since the resurrection of the Mother of All Monsters required it, she has presumably been slain.
  • Make Me Wanna Shout: One of Discordia's attacks involves him sending out a sonic scream.
  • Malevolent Masked Man: Discordia. Actually, since he was brainwashed by Kimberly, he's not really that malevolent.
  • Mind-Control Music: Discordia's music could quite literally mind control others into being his loyal followers.
  • The Power of Rock: Kimberly invokes this especially when she's able to send the hero back in time to fight her Chaos Beast.

    Ledgermayne

Ledgermayne

Created from mana and Drakath's Chaos Magic, Ledgermayne is the Seventh of the Chaos Lords. It soon defects Drakath when it boasts that its more powerful than him, and wants to cut off the Para-Elemental Plane of Magic from Lore. Since magic is tied to life itself, this will result in everyone and everything dying.
  • Ambiguous Gender: "This form is this trope personified. Naturally, this form is sometimes called a male by the NPCs in game, and is shaped like a female, but this form is actually genderless." This often leads to confusion among fans as to what gender Ledgermayne is.
  • Badass Boast: Gives one to Drakath of all people.
Ledgermayne: "You will not be allowed to harm this form. This form was a mass of mana in the para-elemental plane of magic when your chaotic influence accidentally caused this form to be self-aware. This form is grateful for that gift, but this form is NOT one of Master's Chaos Lord puppets whom you have gifted with Chaos Magic. This form is LIVING MAGIC. Even your powerful CHAOS magic...is still just magic, which this form can still control. This form has no desire to destroy you. Stay out of our way."
  • Botanical Abomination: Much of Ledgermayne's appearance is plant-like, and it's a being made of living magic. Just look at its body, armor, and robe.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: It is the most rebellious Chaos Lord, who is able to defy Drakath's wishes. It eventually betrays Drakath entirely.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Well, what else could you possibly call a creature in humanoid form made of magic with plants making up most of its body and an eyeless sphere of light for a head that refers to itself as "we" or as "this form" and wishes to eradicate all life by closing off all magic in the world from Lore itself?
  • Evil Versus Evil: Ledgermayne eventually defects from Drakath, after believing him to be overconfident and having his priorities wrong. Ledgermayne's Evil Plan to eradicate all life on Lore is so extreme that even Drakath does not approve and pulls an Enemy Mine with the Hero to defeat Ledgermayne.
  • Expy: Appearance wise it heavily takes after Mysterio with the fishbowl head and the cape like design of the body.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Its body heavily resembles that of a human woman, but its head is a huge sphere of magic, it's made of living magic, and it refers to itself as "we" or as "this form".
  • Killed Off for Real: The Hero and Drakath killed Ledgermayne in the climax of the Arcangrove saga.
  • Machine Monotone: Its consistency to speak in a cool and collected, never-changing monotone voice. Until it lets out a Big "NO!" when Drakath gives the Supreme Arcane Staff enough power to defeat it. It even refers to itself as "we" or as "this form". As Artix puts it, "It's sort of like a magi-borg!"
  • Made of Magic: It states its form is "magic personified", literally living magic. As a result normal weapons have no effect on it.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: Proves to be almost invincible (except against the Supreme Arcane Staff) as well as even more competent than previous Chaos Lords.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: The reason why it defects from Drakath, believing its former master be a Smug Snake with his priorities wrong. Ledgermayne on the other hand is Crazy-Prepared and does not want any risk of the Hero stopping its plans.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: It wants to seal off all magic along with the para-elemental plane of magic itself from Lore, which will result in all life on Lore itself dying off once it does so.
  • Plant Person: Its physical appearance.
  • Power Nullifier: Manages to nullify Drakath's powerful chaos magic of all things.
  • Pure Magic Being: It is literally a being of pure mana.
  • The Starscream: Once Ledgermayne feels as though Drakath's plan is a failure, it betrays Drakath, depowering his Chaos magic and takes its own plan of action.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: Drakath's Chaos Magic gave Ledgermayne self-awareness, but Ledgermaybe defies its creators wishes and takes matters into its own hands.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: After Drakath voices his belief that the hero won't be able to find all of the pieces of the Supreme Arcane Staff even with Rayst's help, it sees Drakath as overconfident and states that his overconfidence will be his downfall, and while it doesn't actually try to kill him directly, concludes its business with him saying that it no longer has any need for him. This, in fact, leads to its betrayal against him.
Ledgermayne: The hero has proven to be resourceful. The Master is overconfident. It will be your downfall.
Drakath: What did you just say to me, Ledgermayne?
Ledgermayne: The plan will fail. This form will take matters into its own hands. This form no longer has any use for the Master.

    Tibicenas

Tibicenas

The Eighth Lord of Chaos, Tibicenas was once a Ghul (an evil Djinn) who wanted to depose the Efreet, the ruler of all Djinn, and took Drakath's offer to become a Chaos Lord in order to gain enough power to challenge him. The Efreet cast him out of the Djinn Realm, and he was later trapped inside a ring which was found by a guy by the name of Zahart, who now controls him for his own purposes. When Zhoom destroys the ring, Tibicenas returns to the Djinn Realm, intent on revenge against the Efreet for sending him into exile.

Associated tropes:

  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: He has eyes on his arms
  • Godhood Seeker: He tried to become as powerful as the Efreet by playing with Chaos magic. The Efreet caught him and cast him out of the Djinn world.
  • Jackass Genie: In spades.
  • Revenge: His motivation against the Efreet for all the years he made him spend as an outcast after kicking him out of the Djinn world.
  • Satan

    Bloodtusk Chaos Lord (SPOILERS)

Bloodtusk Chaos Lords: Krellenos and Khasaanda

The Ninth Lord of Chaos, who is behind all the events in Bloodtusk Ravine.

He is later revealed to be Krellenos, the brother of Khasaanda. He proved himself a talented manipulator, turning the Horcs and the Trolls against each other for the sake of Drakath's evil plan. But the one thing he did not count on was Khasaanda growing sick of his treachery and using the link between them to steal all of Krellenos' Chaos powers before killing him. As the new Chaos Lord, Khassanda has grown sick of people laughing at her, ignoring and not believing her, using her gift (and that of Krellenos) in order to ensure their lives stayed orderly and predictable.

However, Khassanda decides to use the power of the Chaos Lord to fight Drakath and decides to aid the Hero on their path to stop him. She leaves to follow her destiny, stating that they would eventually cross paths once more.

Associated tropes:

  • Ambiguous Gender: Until The Chaos Lord is revealed to be a guy... until Khasaandra takes over instead.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: All her life, Khasaanda has been ignored, disdained and laughed at. But the final straw came when Krellenos, the only one who really believed her, abandoned her to become a Chaos Lord and chaorrupted her little brother besides. Not a good move when she has a spiritual link with you.
    • However, Khassanda has no grudge against her people. She decides to aid the player in their quest to stop the other Lords of Chaos and to defeat Drakath once and for all.
  • Driving Question: Who is The Bloodtusk Chaos Lord? Krellenos.
    • That is, until Khasaanda used the link between herself and Krellenos to steal his power, becoming a Chaos Lord herself!
  • Hate Sink: Krellenos chaorrupted his brother Antiphuus and allowed his kin to blame the Horcs for his death. He proceeded to steal an Arashtite ore of the Accord of the Dark Sun from the Ravine Temple to corrupt friends and family alike, doing so to his family and to the Horcs as well. He began using the corrupted generals of both sides of the Alliance to try to shatter said Alliance and get the Hero blamed for it all. Krellenos proved willing to sacrifice anything—even family—for Chaos power, all while starting a huge war.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Khasaanda is the second major Chaos Lord who has joined the Hero's side.
  • Killed Off for Real:
    • Krellenos, courtesy of Khasaanda.
    • Khasaanda herself gets killed when she tries to keep Drakath from entering the Realm of Chaos during the final battle.
  • Revenge: Khasaanda has one hell of a vendetta against Drakath for he did to both of her brothers.]]
  • The Unfought:
    • Krellenos was shaping up to be the Chaos Lord fight of this particular part of the Chaos saga — up until Khasaanda killed him and became the Chaos Lord herself.
    • Subverted with Khassanda as you fight her either way.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Khasaanda counts. She was laughed at and made fun of by the other trolls for her unbelievable power. Then she was betrayed along with all the other Trolls themselves by Krellenos. Her response? Usurp his position as the ninth Lord of Chaos and kill him afterwards, then leave to attempt to kill Drakath only to be humiliated by him. She must really have a tough life.

    Iadoa

Iadoa

Iadoa, the Tenth Lord of Chaos, is a Chronomancer who first appeared during the 2012 New Year event, seeking to stop all time on Lore. After being defeated, he was Chaorrupted by Drakath to become his newest Chaos Lord. Unlike many of the other Chaos Lords, Iadoa actively fights the Chaorruption raging through him and seeks to help out the Hero however he can before the Chaorruption takes him over completely. Through him, the Hero learns just what is at stake if Drakath wins.

Associated tropes:

  • Anti-Villain: Intends to mentor the Hero into realizing their true potential before the inevitable battle.
  • Big Bad: of The 2012 New Year Event and supposedly The Time Span saga.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Tells one of his minions not to give The Hero any spoilers.
  • Death Is Cheap: He is killed off by the Hero at his own request. But while the particular instance of him you trained with is dead, being a powerful Chronomancer, there is a chance that the Hero will meet a past incarnation of him or that an instance of him might recover in the TimeVoid.
  • Cool Old Guy: His true identity.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: During The 2012 New Year Event
  • Evil Is Hammy: During 2012 New Year Event
  • Heroic Willpower: Manages to fight off the chaorruption long enough to hint at what the hero needs to know. Of course, his very resistance is probably what causes his sanity to shatter.
  • Mercy Kill: Requests one at the end of his saga.
  • Not As You Knew Them: During the aforementioned New Year Event, he pretends to be a Chronocorrupter trying to stop time while chewing scenery, but in the Time Span saga, he appears Older and Wiser and willing to mentor the Hero before the inevitable combat.]]
  • Secret Test: Gives one to the hero by pretending to be a Card-Carrying Villain during the 2012 New Year Event.
  • Time Master: As a Chronomancer he has powerful time manipulation powers.
  • Time Stands Still: One of his powers as a Chronomancer.

    Maximillian Lionfang

Maximillian Lionfang

Maximillian Lionfang is a famous general for King Alteon, but didn't get the memo about the Truce between Good and Evil against Chaos. He has no respect for the Truce, and believes that Good and Evil can never coexist. During the Lionfang War, he captured all the heroes with intent to torture them into accepting his twisted outlook, holding them in a tower surrounded by a poisonous mist that kills any living creature that enters it. Empress Gravelyn turns the Heroes of Battleon undead so that they can get through the fog unharmed and battle his Golden Onslaught soldiers. When Lionfang finally falls, he is visited by Xing and Xang, who chaorrupt him.

In the 2010 Frostval event, Lionfang returns as a villain who is out to destroy Frostval, determined to make all of Lore suffer for "giving in to Evil." He traps the Spirit of Frostval in a snowglobe, threatening to break the globe and kill her. He then burns all the Frostval gifts and ultimately succeeds in breaking the globe, but as it turns out, the Spirit of Frostval cannot be destroyed so easily, and she wastes no time in restoring the gifts. Lionfang is remanded to Swordhaven Prison shortly afterward.

During the Thunderforge saga, Lionfang is visited by Drakath himself. Taken in by Drakath's lies, Lionfang accepts Drakath's power of Chaos, becoming the Eleventh Lord of Chaos and turning his wrath against the Darkblood Clan, who he sees as evil and not worthy to live. He seeks to find a cure for Chaorruption so that he can use it as a weapon against Drakath and unmake him.

Associated tropes:

  • Animal Motif: The Lion, both in his choice of mount and his armor motif.
  • Berserk Button: DO NOT be aligned with evil when you cross his path. He does not take kindly to evil at all.
    • Interestingly, he ends up finding himself in the inverted side of this trope when he ends up pressing your own Berserk Button by burning the Frostval gifts MEANT FOR EVERYONE and giving Blizzy his Big "NO!", which immediately sends you flying into This Is Unforgivable! mode.
  • Big Bad: of AdventureQuest Worlds 1st Birthday and The 2010 Frostval Event, as well as the Thunderforge saga.
  • Black-and-White Insanity: The Darkblood, seem to be a case of The Spartan Way, having no patience for weakness, but no use for the backstabbing corruption of Evil either and pretty much just don't want to be bothered by the other races. Lionfang however sees them as an Always Chaotic Evil race, to be wiped out like all who he sees as Evil. After getting chaorrupted, he pretty much concludes that everyone that doesn't follow him is "Evil" and seeks to kill anyone that isn't a member of the Golden Horde.
  • Damage Over Time: One of the nastier tricks in Lionfang's arsenal as a Chaos Lord is Curse of Chaos, a Damage Over Time effect.
  • Dual Wielding: Upgraded to two whips in his second appearance. Shame that he Forgot To Level Grind and is still at level 20.
  • Hate Sink: Maximillian is one of the most unforgivable scumbags to grace AdventureQuest Worlds, having no tolerance for the truce between good and evil, knocking the hero out when he/she voices how stupid his idea of starting a war on two fronts is, kidnapping the heroes of Lore with the intent of torturing them into accepting his way of thinking as correct, using his Chaos Lord powers to lay siege to Falguard, Chaorrupt the old Primarch and murder Logash while he is on guard duty, trying to execute the hero after his Manticore is defeated, wasting the last vial of the Tears of the Mother on Drakath and trying to kill the hero again once he realizes that the Tears won't work on him, and worst of all, stealing the Frostval gifts and kidnapping the Spirit of Frostval, burning the same gifts he stole that were meant for the people of Lore in front of both the hero and Blizzy and laughing about it, and finally kicking the snow globe containing the Spirit of Frostval out of the hero's hands and shattering it, and laying bare his intent to make the entire world pay for serving evil by destroying Frostval. And to contribute even further to the hatred towards him, he's incredibly arrogant about his beliefs and views everyone who refuses to follow him as evil and therefore not worthy of living. In fact, he was so despicable that he even got his own Doom Lord counterpart that was made by the Mysterious Stranger.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Because of Lionfang's attempt to douse Drakath with the Tears of the Mother, the skies above Thunderforge became seeded with it, removing Lionfang's Chaorruption but also unmaking the Chaos power holding his final fortress, Storm Temple, together, resulting in Lionfang once again taking a big fall. It's doubtful if Lionfang has met his end or not, but his reign as a Lord of Chaos is over.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Lionfang was always a little suspect in his morality even before being Chaorrupted, but his plans for the Darkblood after being Chaorrupted can't really be seen as anything other than evil to those who don't subscribe to his particular brand of Black-and-White Insanity.
  • Kick the Dog: Burning the Frostval gifts with his whip, complete with Evil Laugh, as well as destroying the globe with the Spirit of Frostval inside. And that's not even getting to his actions against Falguard nor what he does to his own lion. His most despicable act, however, is wasting the very last vial of the Tears of the Mother on Drakath, whom it turns out they will not be able to affect at all due to him being an avatar of Chaos, which only makes things worse as it serves to fuel the eventual tragic events of the Swordhaven saga.
  • Killed Offscreen: His death is not shown, but since the resurrection of the Mother of All Monsters required it, he has presumably been slain.
  • Knight Templar: Believes that Good and Evil can never coexist, and is willing to torture people in order to bring them about to his way.
  • Lawful Stupid: Didn't get the memo about the alliance between Good and Evil against Chaos.
  • Light Is Not Good: Well more of a Lawful Stupid.
  • Moral Myopia: He firmly believes he is doing good by opposing Evil, it's just that the Evil he opposes isn't an active threat and he ends up being worse.
  • More than Mind Control: The way Drakath sways him to his side. He both appeals to Lionfang's beliefs and uses chaos magic to influence him.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: He adamantly believes Evil must always be fought, even when the Evil in question is fighting a good cause. However, in his crusade to take down Evil, he ends up being far more villainous than the Evil Faction, being willing to torture just to make people comply with his ideology.
  • Redemption Rejection: After the Shadowscythe honour the truce by defeating Lionfang and rescuing the heroes he captured, he realizes that maybe Good and Evil can work together. Up until Xin and Xang chaorrupt him.
  • Smug Snake: He has a very high opinion of his way of thinking, which is that good and evil should never be allowed to work together and that good alone must triumph over both evil and Chaos. However, his plan to torture the heroes of Lore into agreeing to accept his way of doing things as correct is easily foiled by the heroes who come to rescue them, aided by the Shadowscythe, which honors the truce by helping to defeat him in his tower. His ego only gets worse when he becomes a Chaos Lord, and when he attacks during the Frostval events.
  • Tautological Templar: Becomes this upon embracing his Chaorruption.
  • This Cannot Be!: He says this when he realizes that the Tears of the Mother are unable to affect Drakath.
    • Villainous Breakdown: He then throws a muderous fit of rage afterwards, threatening to kill the hero upon deciding that he's had enough of what he believes to be their "tricks and lies".
    • In the Frostval events, he gets another "This Cannot Be!" moment when he hears the Frostval Spirit talking to Blizzy just when he was sure that he killed the Frostval Spirit when he shattered the snow globe containing her.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Had Lionfang not wasted the very last vial of the Tears of the Mother on Drakath, the eventual tragic events of the Swordhaven saga that Drakath was responsible for would've been avoided, including King Alteon succumbing to the Chaorruption and becoming the 12th Lord of Chaos, Brittany's murder at the hands of her own father in his Chaos-induced madness, the Chaos Dragon unleashing horrible destruction upon Swordhaven, and ultimately Alteon himself having to be slain when the Chaos proved too much for him.
  • Villain Forgot to Level Grind: During the Frostval event featuring him, he is no stronger than he was during the Lionfang War despite upgrading to two whips. As a Chaos Lord, however, he is much more powerful, especially due to the nasty powers that he has at his command.
  • The Worf Barrage: Lionfang sought to use the Tears of the Mother, which can cure Chaorruption, on Drakath himself. But Drakath is no mere Chaos Lord, but the CHAMPION OF CHAOS, and all they really do is boil off into vapor against him. Drakath does do a fair bit of hilarious trolling on him before revealing the truth.

The 12th Lord of Chaos (SPOILERS)

King Alteon

The 13th Lord of Chaos (SPOILERS)

The Hero

The Hero (you) ends up being chosen by Drakath himself to be the 13th Chaos Lord.

See this page for more details.

    Chaos Queen Beleen

Chaos Queen Beleen

An extra Chaos Lord appearing in the "Chaos Queen Beleen" event. Beleen wanted to turn the sad, abandoned town of Drearia back into the upbeat and cheerful town that it once was. Accidentally, she stumbled upon Nulgath, who was planning to merge the Chaotic forces of Oversoul with the Chaos found on Lore, and tapped into the Chaos itself, becoming Chaos Queen Beleen and beginning her Pink Madness.

Associated tropes:

Chaos Beasts
There are a total of 13 Chaos Beasts. Each beast is summoned by one of the Chaos Lords (except for Chaos Queen Beleen, who didn't have a Chaos Beast of her own at all).

Tropes that the Chaos Beasts have in common:

  • The Dragon: The Chaos Beasts are always fought before the battle against the Chaos Lord proper.
  • Reincarnation: They are recreations of the beasts who served the 13 heroes who defeated the Mother of All Monsters in a previous version of reality.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Pretty much every one of the Beasts of Chaos, who mainly serve as The Dragon for the Chaos Lord who awakens them. two exceptions are The Dracowerepyre which is more of a created evil then a Sealed Evil in a Can since Wolfwing just bites a random dragon before it transforms to The Dracowerepyr and The Gruaige Baas who is just a Serpentress being transformed by Krellenos. Interestingly enough, they themselves had something to do with the seals that were preventing the Mother of All Monsters's return.
  • You Can't Thwart Stage One: Try as he or she might, The Hero has never succeeded in stopping a Chaos Lord from awakening a Chaos Beast. The one time he or she did, it turned out Discordia wasn't the real Chaos Lord.

    Lake Hydra

Lake Hydra

The First of the Chaos Beasts, and released by Escherion using the Runix Cube. It was defeated by the player after using its teeth to burn magic flames (and bringing the Tower of Relativity down upon it).
  • Anvil Drop: More like "Drop the Tower of Relativity" on it!
  • Hydra Problem: Every time you kill a head, it's just going to come back. The way to kill it is to collect teeth from each head in order to activate the runes and send the tower crashing down on it.

    Chaos Harpy

Chaos Harpy

Technically considered to be the Second Chaos Beast, though it appears out of order and towards the end.

    Rock Roc

Rock Roc

The Third Chaos Beast. Unlocked by Vath via the harvested Gemeralds, known for its giant form and rocky exterior. Was defeated when the player takes Vath's Chaos Dragon Amulet, rides Stalagbite, and then fights it in the air before finishing it off at the foot of the mountain.

    O-Dokuro

O-Dokuro

The Fourth Chaos Beast released by the use of the Hanzamune Dragon Koi Blade by Kitsune. A HUMONGOUS skeleton with hundreds of skeletons inside it, it towers as the largest of all the Chaos Beasts.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: It's a HUMONGOUS skeleton. That's all you need to know.
  • Gashadokuro: Specifically a version of this kind of yokai. Odokuro literally translates to "giant skull/skeleton", which are said to be born from the bodies of soldiers who were not given proper burials and stand 15 times taller than a normal human.
  • Undead Abomination: A colossal skeleton yokai who towers above buildings.

    Dracowerepyre

Dracowerepyre

The Fifth Chaos Beast, it was a dragon that was taken by Wolfwing's minions and then bitten by Wolfwing on the Mystic Wolf Moon, turning it into a hybrid of dragon, vampire and werewolf.

Associated tropes:

Gruaige Baas

The Ninth Chaos Beast. She is a powerful Serpentress that was Chaorrupted and then grown to giant-size by use of unchaorrupted Arashtite ore by The Bloodtusk Chaos Lord Krellenos. .

    Kathool

Kathool

The Tenth Chaos Beast and an Eldritch Abomination that has temporarily allied with Chaos for its amusement.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: It is a gigantic squid like monster.
  • The Bus Came Back: We last saw it in DragonFable as the Big Bad of the Water Orb Saga.
  • Demoted to Dragon: Back in DragonFable, it was the Big Bad of the Water Orb Saga. It is content with being a Chaos Beast for now.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: Kathool is one of the only Chaos Beast's with sentience and free will. It temporarily allies with Chaos for its own amusement, but its clear that it will turn tail once a better deal comes its way.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Not very apparent in this continuity, but he is an Expy of Cthulhu. Rather than being Chaorrupted by Chaos like most beings, he merely tolerates a small hold over him. In the Voice in the Sea Saga, he is made into the God of the Depths by the hero where he will be able to taunt the hero with nightmares until the end of time.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He became this to The Span, ironically you fight the Chaos Beast before its Chaos Lord, Iadoa.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Kathool is only loosely tied to the Chaos War, and is a far bigger presence that spans multiple timelines.
  • Save the Villain: It turns out throughout the Voice in the Sea Saga, Kathool wasn't the main antagonist. Kathool is being eaten by the main antagonist, Neso.

    Chaos Manticore

Chaos Manticore

The Eleventh Chaos Beast and a Minticore Chaorrupted by Chaos Lord Lionfang.

  • Damage Over Time: The Manticore's main nasty feature is its ability to poison you with Pestilence, getting worse with time until you either die or cleanse it.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Body and head of a lion, wings of a dragon and tail of a scorpion, not to mention a good number of Chaos Eyes.
  • Right-Hand Attack Dog: For Lionfang.

    Master

Master/Exos/Chaos Knight

Associated tropes:

  • Reused Character Design: As a Chaos Knight he looks like a cross between Chaorrupted Armor and Pactagonal Knight
  • Sanity Slippage: Following the Dreamweaver's betrayal, he has started to lose it, creating a chimera of different creatures in an attempt to create a Chaos Beast. He lost his complete sanity as a Chaos Knight.
  • Smug Snake: Is revealed to be more of this over the course of the story, telling from showing signs of being unsure what to say, as well as signs of panic and nervousness. He fully achieves this title when the Dreamweaver betrays him. But not so much as a Chaos Knight that lacks an ego.
  • The Undead: As a Chaos Knight but with only his skull head while the body is made of chaos tentacles and eyes and you can't see the skull head until you defeat him
  • Villainous Breakdown: Becomes furious when the Dreamweaver betrays him out of desire to be free from his clutches. His ego gets even worse as he makes his Chaos Beast Attempt, and even more so after the hero destroys it, ultimately seeking to replace Drakath himself as the Champion of Chaos.
  • You All Look Familiar: Interestingly, his silhouette looks strikingly like Captain Stratos. That's because Stratos, Exos, Tropos and the late Lithos all looked alike.

    Chaos Mana Walker Knight

Chaos Mana Walker Knight

The second Knight of Chaos and War Boss of the Chaos War.
  • Flat Character: He merely serves as a war boss, with his personalty and past unknown. Nevertheless, he does get a quick cut scene partially devoted to him.

    Desoloth

Desoloth/Desolich

The great elemental dragon sung about in children's songs, Desoloth has been sealed for 800 years by the four Prime Dragons Moganth, Udaroth, Cellot, and Zellare. X'Dir opened the 11-11-11 portal for him so he could find someone to free him before he was sealed away forever. In reality, it's all according to Desoloth's plan to become free from confinement so he can devour the elements.
  • A God Am I
  • And Then What?: In the cutscene played after defeating Desoloth's shade, Desoloth flies out of the portal to begin devouring the elements. And guess what? After that, it says "To be continued in the Etherstorm Wastes...", which means that the Dragonplane story will continue into the Etherstorm Wastes itself.
  • The Chessmaster: His plan was for X'Dir to use the hero to get the four Dracoscintilla to free him. And the plan succeeded.
    • Manipulative Bastard: And he even left his shade in the Dragonplane so the hero can come back to fight it whenever it wants!
  • Dracolich: At the end of the Etherstorm saga, Drakath raises Desoloth's remains using his Chaos power, transforming him into Desolich, a Dracolich that is possibly the most powerful one that Lore has ever seen!
  • Elemental Powers
  • Kick the Dog: Desoloth does this a lot throughout the Etherstorm saga. Notables include biting off Galanoth's arm, encasing Arradia in painful crystal and ruthlessly disposing of As'iiur, but his final and worst one was what he did to Omom for trying to stand against him.
  • Our Dragons Are Different
  • Sealed Evil in a Can
  • Shout-Out: Looks like a combination of all four Prime Dragons, complete with Moganth's lower jaw, Udaroth's tail, Cellot's arms and wings, and Zellare's body and head.
  • Smug Super
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: As a reward for the hero's service to him by using the Dracoscintilla to free him, he attempts to eat him/her and make him/her his first meal in 800 years. The hero defeats him, though... only to discover that what he/she fought was just a shade of Desoloth's true power!

Associated tropes:

  • Back from the Dead: When the Hero becomes Death, (s)he resurrects him, though he gets killed off again by Drakath shortly afterwards.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Most Dragonlords regard their dragons as partners, or at least as beloved pets. Vath on the other hand, specifically calls Stalagbite his tool in order to emphasize how much lower Stalagbite is. When The Hero breaks both of the artifacts used to control Stalagbite, the dragon turns on his former master.
  • Dual Boss: During the Chaos Lord battle, you have to fight both Vath and Stalagbite. It is very recommended that you fight the dragon first, as attacking Vath will lead to Stalagbite curb-stomping you for quad-digit damage.
  • Killed Offscreen: After most of the Chaos Lord sagas, its revealed he died defending Dwarfhold from chaorrupted drows.

Associated tropes:

  • Happily Married: It took a while, but now she's happy to be with Ryuuji.
  • Merlin and Nimue: Nythera frequently plays Nimue to Warlic's Merlin. There's no romantic or sexual content to their relationship though.
  • One-Winged Angel: Nythera usually takes the form of a punkish elf, but every now and then, she'll take the form of a powerful purple dragon.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Gives this to her dad to try and get her out of her wedding with Ryuuji.

  • Psychotic Smirk: Her default expression sports a grin that looks quite cocky.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Drakath's blue. She acts much louder and more cheerful and upbeat than her boss while he expresses annoyance with things with utmost calmness.
  • Reused Character Design: Her hairstyle looks very similar to the Chaos Mage Ponytails helm, which can be bought from the Chaos Slayer shop and is the default hairstyle of the 13th Chaos Lord as a girl and as a mage.
