openEdit warring and weird message? Film
So on https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/PatchAdams, I deleted a Funny moments entry because it was worded awkwardly, lacking in context, and for some reason I mistakenly thought the page already had a "heartwarming" section. HarleyQuinnIsGreat (who I guess entered it in the first place) reverted it back with an added " % % Do not delete the above entry without consulting someone first," and sent the deleting YMMV notifier while telling me not to delete without consulting them. (MOD EDITED TO REMOVE PM TEXT; ADDED SUMMARY INSTEAD)
At this point, I feel like the edit itself isn't really the problem here.
Edited by nombretomadoopenimproper use of pages needing wicks
So, I was going to put Gacha Life on Pages Needing Wicks since it has 4 wicks, but I was reading the rules and read this.
So I was like 'oh okay, I should put it on a different page then.'
However there's a work page folder for Pages Needing Wicks despite that rule. I'm assuming that this is going against that rule and should be removed.
So where should I put these works? What's the appropriate page to put works that need more wicks?
openUnintentional Period Piece cleanup
Unintentional Period Piece has a recurring problem. It's potentially littered with vague references of fashions, music, and technology that dates that work, examples with only one reference, examples that scream "instantly dated", and shoehorns. There's this thread that's supposed to set a threshold to the thread, but somehow it's been shifted to a cleanup drive regarding these examples.
Recent edits seem to put recent examples to the page, despite the saying that 2010s works shouldn't be put there until 2025, with certain exceptions. One recent edit has been added regarding the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is still occurring now.
It has gone this to question:
- Should we make a separate cleanup thread for this? or,
- Convert this thread into a cleanup thread?
openIs this a good idea?
I’ve been pondering about a hypothetical So You Want To cleanup thread, where people would suggest future pages and make additions to the current pages, is this a good idea?
openTrope Finder not working?
I've been trying to ask something on "Trope Finder", but everytime I keep clicking on "submit", my entry does not appear. I have tried this both on my phone and my laptop. Is not the first time that it happens either.
openQuote about Volga from HogansHeroes Live Action TV
TLDR: I need exact quote or link to video of specific scene from Hogan's Run about Russian pilot saying that Volga is the longest river.
In the Original Klingon mentions that In Hogan's Heroes "pilot keeps insisting that ... a Russian invented the telephone, the Volga is the longest river in the world" and attributes this to "he had been fed propaganda".
The Russia HAD inventor with his own original design of phone in 1878 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavel_Golubitsky.
The Volga too happens to be the longest, but in Europe, not the world. Thus I'm looking for someone who knows this episode in the series and can check if pilot indeed said "in the world" or something else. If it happens that he didn't explicitly say "in the world", that would make his words correct, considering the series European setting and I would remove those examples.
I'm kinda tired seeing "those Reds are all propaganda brainwashed" in articles and rest of Cold War propaganda drivel (oh, the irony). Especially when it is edit's author who is actually clueless.
Also down the same article there's "The Soviet Union claimed that many famous inventions were really made by Russians." in Real Life section. Considering that there are no specific examples, and that many famous inventions were indeed made by Russians or independently made by Russians along with other inventors in the world, which can be easily found in Wikipedia or English-language history books, I'm inclined to remove that too.
openAerithAndBob or not?
I'd like to add an Aerith and Bob entry for Xiaolin Showdown, but I'm not sure if the following character' names fall more under Aerith or Bob, if there are any unsual names (Aeriths). Definitely Aerith: Dojo, Wuya (but even then, I'm not expert with Chinese names, so I'm not sure if they're viable names or made up). Definitely Bob: Jack, Kimiko (normal Japanese name), Raimundo (normal Brazilian name). Unsure: Omi (possibly a Chinese or Japanese name), Clay, Fung (possibly a Chinese name), Chase, Hannibal.
openShould there be a Complete Angel trope?
This trope would be the exact opposite of Complete Monsters. A Complete Angel is a character that is very pure of heart. They've committed selfless acts, they are forgiving, incorruptible, and overall extremely nice. I'm pretty sure theres a lot of characters who would fit the Complete Angel trope.
open"So you want to" red links
I was going through the See the Index list, and I saw a whole bunch of red links about Tabletop RPGs. What's the deal with those and should I remove them?
openEdit war on YMMV/FireEmblemWarriors Videogame
227someguy posted a Rescued from the Scrappy Heap entry that originally read:
I deleted this entry because not only is Corrin a popular character who consistently scores high on popularity polls, but Warriors didn't exactly make any changes to their personality, which was why I felt the entry didn't fit. In my edit reason, I mentioned that if they wanted to contest the deletion, they should bring it up in the Scrappy cleanup thread.
Instead, they re-added the entry without any edit reason, and also changed it to read:
I sent them a notifier that YMMV cannot be played with, so Downplayed Trope cannot apply. They have yet to respond, but seeing how this is now an edit war, I thought I'd bring it up here.
openWall-of-texty example on Atelier Ryza
Insane Pryomaniac has added this to YMMV.Atelier Ryza Ever Darkness And The Secret Hideout:
- Contested Sequel: While many new players introduced to Atelier were very happy with the game, the split among fans of the previous games in the series is significantly more divisive. While most admit Ryza does have quite a few positive points like the improved graphics, great tutorials, a great new art style, and an intuitive node based crafting system that make it a decent game, many also claim the game fails on some of the innovations it attempted. The story is very short with minimal character interactions that are a series tradition (there are more scenes of the individual characters bonding in the first several or so hours of Atelier Sophie or the Dusk games than in the entirety of Ryza), less enemy types present than previous games that were already criticized for their lack of enemy variety, the ease of duplication and gardening with infinite gems rendering the post game boring, a split opinion on if the ATB battle system is amazing or awful, near universal hatred of the CC item system, easy difficulty of even harder modes, massive simplification of the traits system, the contrast of Lent's subplot with the rest of the game and how it poorly resolves itself halfway through the game, lack of an English Dub, and rampant Complacent Gaming Syndrome over most stats, traits, the usual DLC problems the series has faced in recent years with the extra episodes for this game being very short but expensive, and usable items being fairly useless compared to just building items with massive skill damage stacking leaving little options for the player compared to previous entries. While this doesn't mean the game is hated, the fanbase at large seems to see it as more of a flawed first step into making an Atelier game that could be more than a Cult Classic and gain widespread success than a total improvement on the past titles.
Methinks it looks like it's piling on every single criticism that could be made about the game, making it pretty hard to read. Anyone agree? Because if so, I'd be able to make it much more concise.
openProblematic edit in YMMV.YandereSimulator
Recently, the troper Hashiriya R 23 made this edit on YMMV.Yandere Simulator. Basically, he removed examples relating to YandereDev being annoyed about emails because:
"Removed all mentions of the "email issue" because it's becoming very clear at this point that the issue was a fabricated excuse from the get-go, and because the artwork that he used as an example of "kids sending in bad art" was drawn by someone that neither sent him an email, nor volunteered in the first place."
Even if this is true, these edits, from the top of the edit history, made one example not make grammatical sense, deleted an objective example, and turned an example into a ZCE.
Furthermore, Hashiriya has had a history of problematic edits on the page. In particular, he added a bunch of memes that were memeing about Yanderedev himself, instead of the game, which we have since deleted.

I`ve written the URL in the manner normally used to create a pothole and it doesn`t work.
openTwo images for the same page Videogame
Kimiharu added a second page image to VideoGame.GranblueFantasyVersus, so I'm asking here if this is okay because I don't know what the policy is for adding more images to the main page.
Edited by NouctopenCorrect thing to do, V2
Sorry for any confusion for the people so saw the first version of this, realizing a few things about the situation made me need to repost it with a less accusatory tone.
Now I noticed earlier that Grotadmorv removed the ZCE markup and tag on Toon Town Online. My original post was wrong in thinking they did this randomly; they actually did add context to a lot of the examples (as pointed out to me by Rally Bot). So that's fine, though hopefully the fact that I pinged them to the ZCE thread first won't create too much of a headache for them. I was thrown off by the deletion of the tag itself and that colored my perception of the rest of their edits.
However, my real question and the source of my earlier stress remains: What's the correct course of action when you notice months late that an issue had occurred? Lets' say I was right the first time and they didn't add any new context- I noticed their edit months afterward, long past the point of being able to request a mod revert. In this case that's not necessary anyway, but in other cases (say the case of Darkness Falls and the troper who kept reverting our work on that one), what's to be done if the revisions weren't noticed until a long time after the fact?
It feels petty to report people for things that happened months ago, even if usually I'd report them immediately had I noticed in a timely manner. But the amount of time in between it happening and it being noticed...makes it harder for me to know how to respond. Is it still edit warring in that case to fix it? Is there still a point in reporting the troper? Is it best to just ask for other tropers to help and move on? What's to be done when problems aren't noticed early enough to act on them?
Since that was my real question and the Grotad thing was just a catalyst to my asking it, that's why I decided to just recreate the query rather than stick with the misinformed earlier version.
openConflicting entries on YMMV.MyHeroAcademia Anime
- Americans Hate Tingle:
- Mineta is reasonably popular in Japan, reaching 17th place on the first popularity poll, but many Western fans loathe him with a passion thanks to him being an obnoxious, cowardly, and tasteless idiot whose Dirty Kid antics are a walking sexual harassment suit waiting to happen, and are wondering why the hell it hasn't gotten him expelled, because creeping on women the way he does is taken extremely seriously in American high schools. Most of them are praying for the day where he either 1) turns evil, 2) dies, or 3) turns evil and then dies so he could be replaced in Class 1-A by Shinso. The fact that Horikoshi has openly admitted Mineta is one of his favorite characters doesn't help matters either. Although even he's losing fans in Japan after his extremely inappropriate comment to Eri.
- The Scrappy: Mineta has a sizable hatedom and tends to rank low on popularity polls. This seems to be attributed to his perverted antics, which to a lot of fans comes across as annoying and/or gross rather than funny, and his arrogant attitude and looking down on others (like Todoroki or Bakugo) despite bringing nothing substantial to anything himself. There's also the fact that his character is painfully underdeveloped compared to others, yet, Horikoshi confessed that he is one of his favorite characters, due to being easy and fun to draw, so he tends to get a lot of screentime and page-time compared to other "side characters" in the class. It doesn't help that he's had virtually zero plot relevance at all since his introduction and has very little character development or exploration in the class. Many fans desperately wish (and write Fix Fic where) he leaves Class 1-A and is replaced by Shinso.
The Scrappy and Americans Hate Tingle are mutally exclusive, so one of these entries have to go. The last paragraph in Americans Hate Tingle implies that he's gotten hate in Japan after the Eri incident, but dosen't say anything if he has recovered from that since then, or if it was a temporary thing.
I'm asking here to get a consensus on what to do, I also asked here.
openRecap pages
Hello, again. I have a quick question regarding the recap pages. Are they considered optional or not?
Edited by gjjones
The Bi The Way TRS thread (subject of previous ATT announcements) has reached it's conclusion. Bi The Way is no longer a trope (click the link and you will see that its location is now just a disambiguation page, in order to catch inbounds). Do not link to it on the wiki. If you see wicks on this site linking to the page, please remove them. Or join our dewicking effort.
Do not come to the thread to try to dispute this. The decision has been made and dewicking has already begun.
Please do not respond to this. This is only an announcement.
