Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:

openMisuses of the POV Cam trope Videogame
So, one thing I have noticed while cleaning up the Video Game pages is that P.O.V. Cam trope is sometimes just stuck onto any game that's played from a first-person perspective. Here's the latest example: Your Toy.
I mean, that's textbook Trope Decay, right? Given its relative prominence (this is like the fifth time I see this, and I am sure doing a wick search will reveal a few more), should we outright amend the trope page itself to clarify that's 'not what it's meant to be about?
openTroper bumping media forum threads
Recently Smashup has been bumping media threads (Wonder Park, for example) to talk about an image on a Nightmare Fuel page. Should those kinda things go to Image Pickin' or the Nightmare Fuel cleanup thread, or both?
Edited by lalalei2001openProblem with the No Historical Figures trope
Some of the examples are for characters based on people who were alive at the time, when Historical for /No Historical Figures Were Harmed is defined for people who were dead at the time of the release of the fiction in question.
For example, take the Godfather series: Moe Greene would count, since he is based on Bugsy Siegel, who was about 30 years dead in the ground when the film was released. But Hyman Roth is not an example, because Meyer Lansky (who Hyman is based on) was still alive when the film was released.
What to do?
openNo Title
Do we have a "works whose description needs more" thread somewhere? Because if I take "Like every other book Jodi Picoult writes" at face value on Literature.House Rules, its description essentially contains no information.
openAre first person pronouns allowed on Gushing?
While clicking on Gush.New Media on this query, I found out that it's littered with "I" and "This Troper". Is that encouraged on Gush and such subpages? I mean, it's hard to know who wrote it in non-forum pages.
Edited by alnair20aug93openPossible issue with a Polanski YMMV
From YMMV.Chinatown:
- Harsher in Hindsight: The sexual abuse Noah Cross commits within the movie could be seen in a whole new light after attention was brought to a real-life court case implicating Roman Polański himself in something similar. This article on Cracked explicitly notes the parallels between how Cross gets off scott-free for his crimes and how Polanski himself escaped jail time by fleeing the U.S.note This is technically not quite what happened, as Polanski's tvtropes page attests. Polanski confessed to his crime, and as per a plea bargain accepted to spend time in Chino Prison as part of a psychiatric evaluation. Polanski spent 42 Days in Chino, honouring his part of the plea bargain and was released early as per the recommendation of his probation officer. It was only when Judge Rittenbrand decided to back out of the plea bargain and planned to bring fresh charges that Polanski decided to flee, an action which the prosecutor of that case admitted was a justified response. In other words, unlike Cross whose crime is never unearthed and who does not admit to his crimes, Polanski both admitted to his crime and subjected himself to the justice system, only running when they backed out of the plea bargain.
Is it me or does the justifying note need changing?
Edited by Chabal2openWhy was the Power Rangers Tear Jerker page removed?
It had plenty of legitimate examples and the individual series pages show that they werent moved there either.
openShould this thread be locked?
So I started a thread in the Manga & Anime forums called "Anime series you'd like to see fansubbed?", but was informed by troper AegisP that it's against the rules due to it being a blatant promotion of piracy. If that's the case, I don't want the thread causing anymore shenanigans if anyone suggests more potential fansubs (I assume suggesting ideas for fansubs would count as promoting piracy), so would that warrant locking the thread, and if so could anyone do the honors?
openTLP disruption
Dannyosei is being a bit disruptive and rude over at the TLP. Every post of theirs has just been demanding the draft sponsor add folders- they aren't adding examples or contributing to the drafts in any constructive way. They're just showing up, insisting upon folders being added, and then never commenting on the draft again- which seems a bit wrong to me. They don't do anything else there.
openIs incest kosher on FanFic Recs?
Yuck. I dont think it is.
The Loud House...I'm kind of speechless.
openCan YMMV subpages have images?
Image Pickin' Special Cases says that YMMV subpages merely default to no pic, but this post apparently says they should never have images. I've seen a lot of images on YMMV subpages (especially for Nightmare Fuel and Tear Jerker), so do we have to delete them all or did I just misunderstand something?
Edit: It turned out I ignored a post that explained it: pages for individual YMMV concepts can get images. Pages in the YMMV namespace (except for YMMV.Home Page) don't.
Edited by MathsAngelicVersionopenMortal Kombat X Quotes Videogame
There are several quotes that are gone from the page such as "Match Intro Dialogue", "Generic Mid-Fight/Round Win One-Liners", and "Unique Mid-Fight/Round Win One-Liners". From what I see they used to be moved to Mortal Kombat X Storyline Quotes before they were moved back to the main Quotes page. However, the only things left are opening and comic quotes with those three I've mentioned above are gone. I've tried to use the history page, found the quotes and tried to preview the changes. And while I seemingly can recover many, there are some are gone from the history like Alien and Triborg, my guess that they used to be on Mortal Kombat X Storyline Quotes. So, can said page be restored or I just have to use the ones with some missing things on the main quotes page?
Edited by KanekiKunopenPage blanking
Infinite Stratos Vs Sekirei Brave New World was blanked by Hubertus Isegrim, same editor who created the page. (I don't know if they're the author of the fanfic too.)
Update: apparently, that was to move the page to the new title IS and Sekirei Brave New World. Blanking was still a problem, it should have been turned into a redirect.
Edited by StFanopenInconsistent Dub confusion
On the main page for Inconsistent Dub it says "Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgement will be in full effect." Implying the trope is super controversial or something. Maybe this is just me being dumb but, why would that be the case?
openHow do i request a image change
How do i request a image change? Do i make a thread to make my case or go to the Image Picking thread for it?
openSeries.CrisisOnInfiniteEarths2019 Live Action TV
Series.Crisis On Infinite Earths 2019
For the last few weeks, people have been ignoring the rules at the top of the page and adding Speculative Troping or uncited tropes. So I'm making this thread to follow someone's advice.
Lately, Doctor Cooper unhid all the commented out tropes without fixing the problems and adding citations even after I sent them a notification.
Should we lock the page until the release of the first episode?
Edited by Silverblade2open Plenty of Non-Kosher stuff on Superlative Dubbing
Lots of arguing examples, bashing people for not liking the dub, and the whole TROPER SECTION. I think something must be done about this.
openHow do I underline? Web Original
Is it possible to underline what you type on here, and if so how?
For instance, if in The Alice and Bob Show, Alice is an Action Girl, do we list Action Girl under both The Alice and Bob Show and fanfics of it? I personally think no, it's superfluous, but other people disagree.
