Edited by GoldenDarknessopenCharacters page for Warcraft NPC species? Videogame
Wondering if it'd be reasonable to create a Characters page for NPC species in the Warcraft franchise. We of course already have pages for the playable factions, but the franchise has a number of species introduced at every expansion with their own themes, story beats and quirks. It would inevitably be a rather big page (probably big enough to be split in some way; something to think about if we decide to do it), but we honestly have similarly large pages for NPC's in other fantasy franchises (see the NPC pages for Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder, for example), so I don't think extent alone should be seen as a reason NOT do to it.
Should we do it, we'd also have to think about maybe reworking some already-existing pages; the page for Pandaria, for instance, alredy brings some entries on NPC races introduced in the Mists of Pandaria expansion. Those entries should maybe be moved.
Alternatively, we could create individual pages for characters introduced in each expansion, listing significant NPC's and having entries for the species there instead. "Big" characters (i.e. cosmic entities) could be kept separate, as they already are, but we add entries for every new species on their corresponding expansion page.
Edited by ZeroCCOopenInconsistency in page titles for a video game series. Videogame
Cross posting with the games' Discussion Page and forum thread but posting it here since no one pays attention to those pages.
Basically, the Super Robot Wars pages are inconsistent on whether or not they use the "expanded" titles for their games or not. For example, we have a page for Super Robot Wars Advance, even though Super Robot Wars A is what other sites use and it's what the art on our page uses. This is admittedly an extreme case since the Updated Re-release was on the PSP and it was very explicitly A and not Advance there, but it's equally true for Super Robot Wars Judgment which is usually referred to as Super Robot Wars J. We don't even have it as a redirect. The same is true for a bunch of other games in the series.
And then we have Super Robot Wars V, but no Super Robot Wars Voyage.
Given that the expanded titles aren't really part of the game or packaging or anything as far as I can tell (I'd say it's All There in the Manual but the games I own where this applies do not have manuals) I'd like to move all the pages to their shortened versions and turned the expanded versions into redirects.

if yes, thank you so much since i really love puyo
openTrope Examples Folders: When to use the "Other" folder? (for genres) Videogame
Hi, I noticed a whole ton of tropes listed under any given media are often not crosswicked to the trope page as examples, so I've been meaning to do that whenever I can.
This might be pedantic but when should I use the "Other Games" folder vs just making a new genre folder to put the example in?
For example Absurdly High Level Cap has many examples in its "Other Games" folder. Some of these games could probably be moved to their own genre folders now. But there's also some folders which only have single examples- games could have gone to "Other Games" instead (I imagine it would be pointless to change that now unless there's too many folders one day).
So what's the best course of action when adding a new entry and there's no fitting genre folder (yet). Put it in "other"? Make a new folder unless there's too many folders already? Or does it not even matter?
Thanks.
resolved Indentation edit-warring Videogame
On YMMV.The Legend Of Zelda I, Tailikku had added two entries, one of which was improperly indented and also began with word cruft ("Speaking of"). I fixed both issues and sent them a word cruft notifier... then they edited the example to reinstate the lone third-bullet asterisks for the second entry (they cited "fixing indentation [and] formatting" in the edit reason, but what they're doing is repeating an editing issue).
I'm writing this query to ask for permission to revert that improper bullet sorting once again.
Edited by MyFinalEditsopenWho has the most experience with Joke Characters? Videogame
Earlier today, I created the Analysis.Joke Character page, where I tried to explain the different ways these characters are made (such as being underpowered, having unbalanced splats, or having hindering gimmicks).
I initially wanted to also add one example for each variety to better explain the situations: for example, I wanted to put Magma Rager for the "Only One Good Stat" category, Farfetch'd (specifically the Pokémon Yellow incarnation) in "Wrong Person At The Wrong Place", and one of the secret characters from Gourmet Fighters for "Literally Unplayable".
But I couldn't think of examples (that I knew of) that would fit the "Bad Perfomances" and "Built This Way" categories.
Is there a place in this site where I can ask for suggestions?

Toffolus unilaterally changed the pronouns of the character A in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - The Founders, citing the newly-released art book. Given some of the other things in the book they decided to not change (Nikol and Glimmer's ages are different, for example), this comes across as a wonk.
They also included this edit reason https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.XenobladeChronicles3TheFounders&page=21#edit40210361
Requesting a reversion since they're going for the serial tweaking route.

resolved Trolling, edit warring Videogame
User Calm Hill Of Treasures,
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/el.php?findfor=CalmHillOfTreasures
has been engaging in blatant agenda-based edit warring and trolling on the ymmv page for Unicorn Overlord,
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/UnicornOverlord
Their particular focus is the Woolseyism trope (a noisy minority of chuds on twitter have raised a big stink over the localization).
Calm Hill has ignored invitations to discuss issues they have with the example, their edit reasons have been utter nonsense (citing Zero Context Examples despite including more than sufficient context), they've deleted Les Yay and Ho Yay from the same page because, "Grammar", they deleted a Crowning Funny example (that has a quote from the localization) because "typo", and they re-worded the Woolseysim trope to be hostile to the localization because, "fixing a sinkhole", before just deleting their own revised version because, "Grammar".
Edited by Raxisresolved Are these examples correct? Videogame
Found this on FireEmblemThreeHouses.Tropes A To D
- All Lesbians Want Kids: If a female Byleth gets a paired ending with Mercedes it is stated that they ended up opening an orphanage and raising many kids together. Byleth also ends up adopting children in her paired ending with Dorothea but only in the Japanese version of the game.
Looking at the trope page, the trope is about various lesbian women who wants to have a kid. This entry simply states that Female Byleth and Mercedes opened an orphanage and becoming mothers to many orphaned children. No mention of them wanting kids. Any other thoughts?
Characters.Fire Emblem Three Houses Adrestian Empire
- Psycho Lesbian: She doesn't express any sort of romantic interest in any of the male characters and has an extreme obsession with Edelgard which goes to the point that she keeps track of every meal that Edelgard has eaten, the amount of times she's sighed, the amount of times she's said Monica's name, or to her chagrin, the names of others compared to her own. Downplayed, as while Monica's obsession with Edelgard is clearly unhealthy she doesn't actually physically hurt anyone over it.
The trope is about a woman is psychotically obsessed with another woman, to the point of actively harming others. As written, Monica sounds more like a lesbian Clingy Jealous Girl than anything.
Edit: The examples are misuse per here and here. Locking as resolved
Edited by Ayumi-chanopen(The sort of maybe) Harsher In Hindsight misuse... again Videogame
/TW: abuse/SA mention/
It took me a lot longer to realize, and something I last expected to be misused, but back in December of last, this Genshin Impact example was added to the Video Game sub-page of Harsher:
- Tighnari’s voice lines (at least the original ones done by Elliot Gindi, Tighnari’s original voice actor) in Genshin Impact(specifically, “What are they gonna do, lock me up?”) sting very badly knowing that Gindi had been abusing minors with his status as a voice actor.
Ignoring the fact that this is the only example of Genshin being added to that page at the (the game's YMMV page has a lot of In-Universe Harsher examples), this feels like misuse. While it's true that the line has been memed to death for darkly humorous purposes, if you take the line in context, it's more about him doing courses for the Forest Rangers without permission from the Akademiya and doing such would be considered "dissemination of information" according to Nari - while Gindi was fired for something similar ("breach of contract" according to MiHoYo), nothing from that line implied or insinuated that Tighnari used his power as a teacher to abuse his students (and hypothetically, it will be Out-of-Character for Nari since one of his patients and fellow comrades is a victim of abuse themselves). Furthermore, fans of the character have learned to separate the art from the artist and hate it when you associate that character with their now-disgraced voice actor. Seemingly the closest connection to Nari and his old VA is that the Dramatic Irony between their situations (Nari takes care of abused and disabled child who views him as a brother to her, while Gindi used his fame to abuse minors, some of whom had mental disabilities). I apologize if I may come off as a bit to insensitive in this post, I spent the majority of the day editing the character pages for Black★Rock Shooter.

If I want to crosswick/add a Visual Novel example in a trope page and it doesn't have a Visual Novels folder or subpage, should I create it myself, or should I put the VN under Video Games?
In the case that the Video Games folder already contains some VNs, is it better to move them to a new Visual Novels folder, or to leave it like that and add my example there?
Edited by animuacidopenAssPull example re-added without discussion Videogame
I originally had brought the example of Ass Pull on YMMV.Star Wars Jedi Survivor regarding Bode being a traitor and his true nature up on the "Is This An Example" thread, pointing out that it had extensive foreshadowing listed on the main page. So it was decided to be removed.
Now, Chris116 is has re-added it without discussion, saying that only his identity as a former Jedi is the Ass Pull, when the foreshadowing entries also mentioned the hints in the story for this as well.
I don't want to incur in an edit war so I'm bringing this in here.

I found these Ice Magic Is Water wicks on Characters.Trails Series
Characters.Trails Series Crow Armbrust
- Ice Magic Is Water: His secondary element is water and his Freezing Bullet Craft in the first game had him fire a round that triggered an ice explosion for magic damage.
Characters.Trails Series Crossbell Special Support Section (Tio)
- Ice Magic Is Water: Her primary element is water and her Absolute Zero Craft and Ether Debuster S-Craft has her transform her Orbal Staff into a Chainsaw-Grip BFG and release an icy explosion to inflict magic damage.
Characters.Trails Series Erebonia Ironblood (Claire)
- Ice Magic Is Water: Her primary element is water and her Frigid Rain Craft has her conjuring and shooting a large block of ice to do magic damage.
Trails Series Erebonia Thors Class VII New (Musse)
- Ice Magic Is Water: Her primary element is water and her Brilliant Shot S-Craft has her encasing the enemy in a flower made of ice before firing a Reflecting Laser at them.
Trails Series Ouroboros (Vita)
- Ice Magic Is Water: Her secondary element is water and her Frozen Prison Craft has her encasing the enemy in ice to inflict magic damage.
For some context, each of the characters in the Trails Series have some starting elements (one primary one and one secondary one) in their orbal arts (the series' magic system) via whatever technology they have that can be freely customised if the player desire to. Meanwhile crafts are the characters special skills and some are magic based but freely independent of orbal stuff.
None of the examples listed above correlate that their crafts are water based (then turning to ice) but rather saying that they are tied to certain element and their crafts happen to be ice. Additionally, the orbal arts page of the wiki has some water arts that turn them into ice. So this is also more of a general thing rather than a character specific one.
However, I could be wrong so would more opinions on this.
openDogwhistle on Memetic Mutation Videogame
So i was reading the YMMV page for the cancelled Video Game/Hyenas, and i came across the following example of memetic mutation:
- JOIN THE ACK- explanation At the end of the announcement trailer for the game, the slogan "JOIN THE PACK" is supposed to be displayed. However, due to the fact that You Tube puts the thumbnail of the next recommended video on the screen at the end of every video, said thumbnail ends up covering the word "PACK" and turning it into "ACK"—a common exclamation for sudden dismay or frustration—making it seem like the writer of the slogan got into some unfortunate incident and couldn't finish writing it. The abrupt cancellation of the game itself just adds to it.
The part "common exclamation for sudden dismay or frustration—making it seem like the writer of the slogan got into some unfortunate incident and couldn't finish writing it. " really bugged me, this whole sentence felt really weird. That feels terribly specific and it's overall just a clunky piece of writing.
So i decided to investigate on google for "hyenas "join the ack" " and my suspicious were validated, all of the results containing the phrase where from Kiwi Farms and 4chan, with true context of this "Ack" that the troper pretends it's a "common exclamation for sudden dismay or frustration—making" was actually a mockery of the suicide of transgender individuals, one other example of "join the ack" that i found was an steam user making a community post with this as the title and going full transphobe.
Now, the point i'm trying to make is that based on my research, there is absolutely no way KB Zheng 123 didn't know what the context of that was about, which means they intentionally and knowingly added a transphobic joke to the site and tried to pass off as a regular joke, and that requires action by the moderators, as there should be zero tolerance for transphobia and transphobic users in this site.
openFallout 4 Brotherhood of Steel Character Page still claims Brotherhood are Nazis. Videogame
A while back, it was declared by Word of Mod that the Brotherhood of Steel, even as envisioned in Fallout 4, do not count as an example of A Nazi by Any Other Name. The issue, along with the associated page featuring heavy, heavy emphasis on the Brotherhood's Fantastic Racism and other flaws, came back up a few years later but stalled out with an at-best limited resolution.
I don't know if any agreement was ever reached elsewhere on the site (it's kinda hard to look back through the archives) but from what I can tell this has just sat there unfixed.
Edited by MinisterOfSinisteropenHM:AWL vs SoS:AWL: Do Character/Game Tropes apply to the Remake? Videogame
selphius and I have been working in harmony on the pages for VideoGame.Story Of Seasons A Wonderful Life and VideoGame.Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life, including character pages (This also includes pages for VideoGame.Harvest Moon DS), discussing things back and forth to try and keep things consistent. However something's come up and I feel like community census will help to make sure we're both on the same page with the community, regarding games being in the same universe so facts from one would apply to others.. Forgive me if this is long, I'm trying to be as clear as possible what the issue is.
Explanation: HM:AWL was released first on the GameCube, later followed by HM:DS/DS Cute on the Nintendo DS. In the Japanese version of DS, it's clear that the characters are the descendants of the HM:AWL characters, not them in a remake version—this is helped by the characters having different names. However, Natsume's English translation gave everyone the exact same names, which made everything confusing about it being a sequel. e.g. Celia's descendant 100 years later is also named Celia, and looks almost exactly like her and lives in the exact same place and everything—and because of the same names, DS/DS Cute can appear like a remake, not a sequel.
Now SoS:AWL is out for the Switch, which is a enhanced remake of said GC game with some changes on some characters, but the same overall in story beats and characterization as HM:AWL. So I'm not sure if this game is considered related to the DS Games at all, being a remake, or should be troped like its own separate universe, even though this interview states a relation between them.
My reasoning is that, for example, the Pokemon Games aren't treated as the same game universes—Fire Red/Leaf Green are remakes of Red/Blue, and so are the Let's Go games, in that they have some of the same gyms and story beats. But things from Red/Blue aren't always applicable to FR/LG or Let's Go, and because they're remakes of the old Red/Blue this doesn't make, say, Let's Go connected to Soul Silver. Another example would be how the Final Fantasy Remake is a remake of FF7, but it's not the exact same universe as that game and almost like a different timeline.
The interview is closer to Word of God. There's no confirmation in game that it's related to DS/DS Cute, just items outside the games relating them and what might be some Easter Eggs. So mentioning that, say, Witch Princess is in DS/Cute and stated there she's lived in the valley for 100s of years doesn't 100% confirm she's in the Switch game.
Can y'all help us make things clear between what's related to DS/Cute and what's not?
Thanks.

Should we list former examples that, due to nerf/buffs, are no longer the case?
Former Low-Tier Letdown examples can be listed under Rescued from the Scrappy Heap, but I don't know the equivalent for Game-Breaker (intentional or not).
Clarifying EDIT: I asked this because 2.5 months ago, someone added a game-breaking bug to Team Fortress 2 that was patched in 2008.
