Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:

openShould We Re-create Ariana Grande's YMMV Tab? Music
Her YMMV tab was removed for being for a "Creator" page, but she's been moved to music. And singers like Lady Gaga have a YMMV tab! Should we remake it?
openDo interviews count as real life examples? Music
I noticed that a lot of TearJerker.Music pages list real-life events (mostly artist deaths) in violation of Tear Jerker's No Real Life Examples, Please! rule. On some pages. On TearJerker.Avenged Sevenfold, I removed an example about The Rev's death, but I noticed a couple of examples about other band members being interviewed afterwards. I think they be removed should since they're troping real life, but I'd still like to confirm.
Edited by SomeonemanopenAmen Break? Music
Here are a couple things I've noticed with the page Amen break:
- The page consists almost entirely of zero-context examples. One of the examples listed is "DE-SIRE alternative - "Trip Machine PhoeniX", which doesn't explain how or where the amen break is used in the song.
- It might not be in the correct namespace. Generally, lists of every appearance of a song go in the Music/ namespace. Examples: Ode to Joy, Pachelbel's Canon, Ride of the Valkyries, The Cancan Song. Should we move Amen break to the Music/ namespace, or is it fine in the Main/ namespace?
openFormatting question Music
Does punctuation go inside external links, or outside them? Asking because on The Protomen there's a period inside a link.
Edited by lalalei2001openThree Days Grace main page cover image Music
Three Days Grace has an image showing the old, pre-2013 lineup of the band (before they changed lead vocalist). Can I go ahead and add an image of their new lineup, keeping the old image in a /note ? Should I ask permission from somewhere else?
openMusic/VaadatCharigim - Translation help for Hebrew song titles Music
Hi, if there are any Hebrew speaking Tropers who catch this, can you check the machine translations of the two song titles in the Vaadat Charigim article?
"Lehitorer Velo Lada'at" = "To the Police and to the Witness" ? "Ein Nehama Ladoachim" = "There is no Consolation for the Oppressors" ?
Thanks.
open How do I get this user properly reported? Music
The article for SOPHIE was vandalized a few hours ago by this troper named weissman88, and going through their edit history, they specifically target any articles with LGBTQ content, including editing in dead names and improper pronouns for both characters and real people, and deleting some content altogether. Is there a more direct way to report this other than Contact Us, or is that the best option?
Edited by number9roboticopen I'm searching for a remix of "MEGALOVANIA" Music
As far as I remember, it starts with a piano performance, then shifts to electric sounds. Do you know where I can listen to it?
openAwesome/KanyeWest Music
I had to clean up the examples involving Kanye’s political views, but other tropers keep adding it back. I’ll admit I added some myself, but since it’s causing edit warring, I deleted the examples altogether. Should there be a mod warning to prevent any more politics-related examples from betting added back.
Edited by MsCC93openTroping Music Videos Music
Should tropes that occur in music videos (but not the song itself) still be listed in the Music section of a trope page?
openA page that vaguely describes a band or musician, with the answers set as spoilers. Music
Pretty much what the title says: the page is a big one full of such descriptions, and you can check to see if your guess was correct by opening the spoiler which tops each section off.
EDIT: I'm searching for this; probably should've made that clear oops
Edited by Automaton120openWhy is this locked? Music
The Lonely Island: Tried to add an example to that page and to crosswick to an obscure trope, but cannot do it. Why?

openIs what I found Creator Bashing? Music
In the trivia section of the article on Tim Buckley (the late singer), he gets outright called a Jerkass. He's dead, so he's not going to read it, but I still feel like it's too personally insulting for this site. I feel like I should cut it, but I thought I'd ask you first.
openReporting a troper Music
ryanisbetter repeatedly insists on listing Lorde as an example of Two-Hit Wonder, ignoring the fact that Madrugada officially ruled against this.
openCan my page be moved to the "Creators" namespace...? Music
Um okay, so a while ago somebody made a page on me: TurretBot
Which is fine, keep the page, I don't care. I don't want to disrespect The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours, I only did one edit to correct a few factual errors, that's it, and I don't plan to edit the page for any more than that... But I want the namespace changed. The page is currently under "Music", and it should be under "Creators".
"Turret Bot" is NOT a work. That's just my username. And, I do things other than music (the page conveniently leaves out my non-music stuff, but I can post links if you want proof). For all that, I believe the page should really be moved to "Creators"...
So can someone please move the page to Turret Bot for me? Since the page is about me, I feel like moving it myself would be crossing the line, I don't want to get in trouble or anything. Ok that's all. Thanks in advance...
openI'm a Newcomer Music
I'd like to learn more about how to write pages for TV Tropes. I'd like to write/add to pages in music categories mostly.
openCan I recreate the music subpage for Sesame Street? Music
I noticed that there are some pages for Sesame Street soundtrack albums such as Sesame Street Sing Along, Sesame Street Born To Add', and Sesame Street: Platinum All-Time Favorites''. Since the show has numerous soundtrack albums, I wanted to create a music subpage for the show, but I found out that it was deleted. Can I recreate it?
openCharacters/Disturbed Music
Sorry, but I worked for ages on the Characters for Disturbed. Whether it's allowed to trope real people, I'd still like a means to access the information stored there to integrate into the main article. One section of the page dealt with the band's mascot, who is certainly a character and not a real person.
Neoclassical Punk Zydeco Rockabilly and GenreMashup.Music have the same image, and I'm not sure what the difference between them is. This TRS thread from 2016 suggests Genre Mashup was created as a more general trope for Neoclassical Punk Zydeco Rockabilly (combining existing genres together) to clear up the misuse of Genre-Busting (when a work fits into no genre). This doesn't seem to have completely worked: Haruhi Suzumiya is on both pages with the exact same description.
