Making disambigs for works that share names...

Recently someone (Piterpicher) made a video game page for Earthbound (1983) (unrelated to the SNES game) before they changed EarthBound as EarthBound (1994) but this causes a problem.

I've never heard of this Earthbound (1983)◊, and about every page on this list refers to the more-known SNES EarthBound◊.

EarthBound should have been left as it is without the 1994 since now the Earth Bound link leads to an ambiguity page when all pages on the list shown above refers to the SNES title.

Nope. That's just the consequence of a big disambig. Just means I and possibly others are gonna spend their time cleaning that.

Better if the Year version were made, wicks cleaned, then things moved, but it happened.

It is admittedly a bit annoying but it is the consequence of this. If we were to not disambiguate it, it means we would basically give preferential treatment to the SNES game just because it is more popular.

So yeah what Piper did was correct.

It also frees us up (theoretically) for Franchise.Earth Bound, but it isn't eligible for Franchise/ at the moment, and might never be.

Well, that's alright... since Earthbound (1983) was made just recently with the year included, I figured that both titles could be differ more easily without having to disambig the original and avoid a massive cleanup, but that's that.

Funnily enough, on The Other Wiki specifically recommends such preferential treatment in assigning the most popular namesake to the least disambiguated name (i.e. the primary topic system). Pages there get moved all the time to do specifically what you warn against (and IMO, I like how Wikipedia handles this kind of issue).

TBF, Wikipedia cares about notoriety and we don't. Giving preferential treatment to one of the works would fly in the face of that principle.

Notability, not notoriety.

Same thing IMO, but yes, I used the wrong word.

But something can be notable without being famous though.

One Night Stand has 5 works, which is good for me, but I thought we had a trope for the act, that I could target, not just One-Night-Stand Pregnancy?

Also need to clean its 4 wicks.

Thought to myself re EarthBound: Could always just put a comment note at the top of the game's page instructing to use the curly brackets markup if one wants to hide the year disambig in the wick (I'm assuming the other works named Earthbound aren't spelled with camelcase).

Yes, that's the most obvious disambiguation.

Or by author, e.g. The Book Of Lies Moloney and The Book Of Lies Kristof

Ouch, we've run into a custom title collision that might be a pain to resolve. We have a trope that looks like it should be Space "X" (with a space) but it's colliding with our Useful Notes page for Space "X" (the IRL space program). Unless the trope was named as a pun (the company was founded in 2002 after all).

The Host really needs some kind of disambiguation, as the YMMV page has sections for four different works (the book, the film of the book, an unrelated film, and an unrelated video game). Pretty much all the other subpages are having collisions too, if not as extreme as the YMMV page is.

However, The Host itself (the main wiki page) is a trope page that describes TV hosts. Frankly, I don't think we'd lose anything of value if we turned it into a disambig page, but that would probably have to go through TRS.

Since there are two films that share the name Belle (the 2013 one and the 2021 one directed by Mamoru Hosoda), do you think we should disambiguate them by year?

Year makes the most sense here.

Technically it s not required as they don't share a namespace but if there are some issue poping up probably better to do so.

I agree too. Splitting is ideal in this situation.

Anyways, it's best that I out myself. I'm sorry for splitting the pages by year before discussion. I promise that, from now on, I'll discuss splitting works here before make any more moves.
