This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is), and post the results on TRS Queue and wait your turn if a problem is present. The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread to collect evidence if you need help.
- If a wick check is too much for you, you can leave the issue at Tropes Needing TRS citing the discussion.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

We got you covered, so go ahead and rest up.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportSince All Love Is Unrequited is getting taken to TRS, Would we need an "Unrequited Love" trope or would it be redundant with Hopeless Suitor, Romantic Runner-Up, and Did Not Get the Girl?
I feel like people are misusing ALIU bc there's no clear "Unrequited Love" trope (there's only an index with that name) that focuses on the one-sided love itself, not on the person and resulotion of the romance. Sometime a One Sided Love would end up requited at the end as a subversion and sometimes there's a Unrequited Love Switcheroo, etc.
I think that's something to hashout in the eventual thread (that I keep pushing back), but it comes down to whether or not we think Unrequited Love is tropeworthy. I'm on the fence, having been the one to wick check All Love Is Unrequited and put it on the queue. On the one hand, if it's limited to character A pining away for character B who never reciprocates or notices their feelings for the entire story, then maybe. But if it's just "any time a character likes another and those feelings aren't immediately responded to (but they may get responded to over time)", then it starts becoming indistinguishable from "character has a crush on another", which I don't think is tropeworthy in of itself. I bring this up because many of the examples of ALIU in the wick check fall into that latter category.
I see an Unrequited Love trope as potentially ending up similar to how Happily Married is very often misused / given Partial-Context Examples to just say "these two characters are married" because they don't elaborate further on the lack of issues in the marriage. (Yes, Happily Married has many issues, but at 10k+ wicks, I'm not poking that bear for a good long while).

It might be tropeworthy if we can put the caveats that the love must be unrequited for 90% of the work and said love must last longer than the average crush. Just spitballing here though. *shrug*
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsJust found Recovery Sequence. Created in 2010, 13 wicks. Probably another trope this can be merged with that I can't track down at the moment. Or just cut.
We'd need to see how much of the ALIU misuse would fall under such a definition to see how much that would help.
Agreed. I think you can just toss it on the queue.
EDIT: With crosswicking, around 24 wicks. Technically not Not Thriving, but TBH I'm not sure if it's particularly worth keeping as is. Could a mod provide input?

TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallIf there's no other issues with the definition, crosswick it first and let's see how it turns out after some time.

Thanks Synch. So ~badtothebaritone based on that, with crosswicking we can just leave it alone for now (barring definition issues).
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallRe: All Love Is Unrequited, yeah the discussion should wait for the thread to launch, but sometimes even noteworthy/non-chairs tropes end up with lots of ZCEs because people ignore the whole meaning of the trope (c'mon Happily Married is named this way, so one gotta explain how the characters are happy in their marriage, tropers are just lazy) or don't bother reading the description to get what's the trope is about.
A "One-Sided Love" trope would obviously need these unrequited feelings to be the focus, and not just "any one-sided crush ever." It may go through Trope Decay, but honestly, any tropes about Love Triangles (Betty and Veronica, etc.) are overdosed tropes which is why there is lots of misuse and ZCEs.
Is Robot Clown just "robot + clown", or is there something more to it? Asking here because I don't think this is a tropeworthiness issue necessarily.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI think it's just robot + clown. Also, I am not sure if we need both this trope and Funny Robot.
Macron's notesFewest wicks remaining: Blade On A Stick (317), What The Hell Casting Agency (209), Overly Long Title (174), Acceptable Target (93), Electra Complex (38)
Closable upon completion: Keigo (567), Power Walk (498), Overprotective Dad (468), Camera Screw (382), Blade On A Stick (317)
Thoughts: What Measure Is a Non-Badass? only needs its on-page examples cleaned for it to close. Backyard Wrestling just needs its real-life troping removed. BOAS might finish today.
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailI've had concerns about Lying Creator for some time now. Often times I've seen examples where the creator didn't intend to lie, but things kinda went the other way, which is misuse.
...Oh, and I'm also worried about just how negative the complaining is, especially on WMG pages where people are likely to complain about theories getting Jossed due to a lie.

I'm lovin' it. (My Troper Wall)~Phantom Dusclops 92 Backyard Wrestling just closed, so you're up next on the queue.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper Wall~Phantom Dusclops 92 You are next up on Sandbox.TRS Queue.
Macron's notesImpressive speed on Blade On A Stick, I gotta say. Went from over 4k wicks to just about the finish line in two weeks. Only 70 wicks left to remove.
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailThe bulletin really helped there.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportThat sandbox was for the disambig text so it can just be cutlisted.
Macron's notesI'm going to get back to handling wiki maintenance after I took a break this week, though there isn't much to do on TRS right now since I don't think any threads are currently closable, and the threads that haven't had crowners and haven't been starred aren't old enough to have crowners, so I can't handle those yet anyway.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. Why Won't You Die? predates No New Stock Phrases, but a large number of on-page examples are just a character saying "why won't you die". Worth a wick check, or no? And if it is, are there potential tropes hidden in here? I feel like there are, but I can't quite describe the one I'm thinking of well.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallBumping to bring light to my Lying Creator comment a few posts up.
I'm lovin' it. (My Troper Wall)Might be worth a wick check. Lying Creator sounds pretty clear as a title, but maybe it isn't clear enough.

Cross-posting from the Absent people thread.
I've been worn out lately, so I'm taking a break from mod work until the weekend. I'll still be active on the forums; just not in an official capacity.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
