YMMV / Escape from Vault Disney!

Go To

  • Audience Awareness Advantage: Acknowledged in the Loki (2021) episode, in which they discuss the third episode of the show shortly after the episode was released, yet the podcast would not release to the public until after the entire first season was out. This made all speculation instantly dated, and their success with their predictions was better than one would expect, but is still considerably off the mark from reality.
  • Bizarro Episode:
    • One mini-sode, simply titled "The Top Ten Episodes of Escape From Vault Disney", makes you think it's going to be a discussion about what fans considered to be the best episodes so far, but it is instead all ten episodes played simultaneously, leading to an out-of-body experience for many listeners.
    • In the A New Hope episode, Tony and the guests looked at the film as if they were from an alternate universe, where the film flopped and the film faded into obscurity.
    • The "Arendelle Castle Yule Log" episode has Tony and company - Santa/Carl Featherbottom, Agatha Vile, and the Ghost of Gilbert Gottfried - talk over the video itself, since there is nothing for them to watch (except for the occasional appearance from Olaf).
      • The following year had the Arendelle Castle Yule Log: Cut Paper Edition which again featured Carl, Agatha and the Ghost of Gilbert talking over the video itself again after the first 7 minutes.
  • Crazy Is Cool: Carl Featherbottom embodies this idea. He is unhinged and nonsensical, and his arc every Christmas episode makes him an even more mysterious being, going from a 9-year old kid to a shapeshifting space demon who has taken up the mantle of Santa Claus. It gets to the point where, by his third appearance, he states he (maybe) only wants part in this podcast to eat everyone and that he is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and no one seems to bat an eye at it. This insanity has made the "guest" a fan favorite.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Happens many times with the comedy in this podcast.
    • One joke in the Richie Rich's Christmas Wish episode has Carl say he was in Miracle on 34th Street. Randee asks why he "did that to Natalie Wood."note
Carl: This just got real dark.
      Tony: She knew too much.
    • In the Arendelle Castle Yule Log episode, the Ghost of Gilbert Gottfried claims he's now friends with Jesus Christ in the afterlife.
Carl: Is he as cheap as you?
      Agatha: (Spit Take)
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Agatha Vile, the great-granddaughter of Dr. Vile and regular guest. She often finds Success Through Insanity and her Large Ham antics made her popular. She even had her own Twitter blog. Sadly, the account was suspended multiple times when she tried engaging with trolls, to the point where as of June 2023 she can no longer appeal the latest suspension. While there were calls from other cast members of the show to undo it, these have largely died down when it was revealed that one of her followers had actually directed the trolls to her profile.
  • Fandom Nod: During the Arendelle Castle Yule Log: Cut Paper Edition episode, Morgan Funder turned out to be Agatha Vile. Tony asked her how long she had been pretending to be Morgan and Agatha said just this episode. This is a nod to a long running rumor that Morgan is playing Agatha. However, it should be noted that Tony has publicly said that Agatha is not being played by anyone else and she is just an over the top character of her real self.
  • Growing the Beard: Many fans believe the podcast considerably improved after the 5-month long hiatus imposed by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Reasons include a new intro and intermission music replacing the generic banjo music with impactful licks based on the "Walt Disney and You" VHS promos from the 80's, the transition from in-person only guests to Zoom allowing a more diverse and fun group of guests than whoever's near Tony in Southern California, and the temporary inclusion of the State of the Parks segment leading to interesting theme park discussion when needed.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In one episode, one of the co-hosts refers to The World According to Jeff Goldblum as the only National Geographic show he'd want to review. Disney+ would later remove it in May 2023, before the podcast could ever cover it. Tony has since stated that it would still qualify for a Disney+ Originals month, but only if another streamer posts it by then.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight:
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • In the podcast discussing the Behind the Attraction episode about Space Mountain, Tony cracks a joke while discussing the various overlays done in the Disneyland version of the ride that they should put the Red Hot Chili Peppers into Star Wars. Just over a month later, band member Flea would play the character Vect Nokru in the Star Wars show Obi-Wan Kenobi.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "CRAB EXPERIMENTS", the Running Gag from the fan-favorite The Little Mermaid (1992) "Island of Fear" episode, has become the go-to shorthand to refer to the podcast.
    • #FreeAgatha briefly trended on Twitter when Agatha Vile was suspended for violating Twitter rules against Violent Speech, but subsequent attempts to use it have been less effective.
  • Unexpected Character: While there have been some bigger-name guests that at least make somewhat sense given Tony and his friends' connections and history, Jenny Nicholson's appearance, especially within only the first few months of the podcast, came out of left field for many.
