Web Animation / The Sun and Moon Show

Go To

The Sun and Moon Show is a web series centered around Sun and Moon from Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach. With Sun and Moon now housed in separate bodies, the two do everything together from Let's Plays of various games to reacting to fan art. Among these more light-hearted romps, however, is a growing Story Arc in which Sun and Moon realize their separation may have had unintended consequences...

Hello everybody, welcome back to The Sun and Moon Tropes List!

  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Many characters from the games have multiple sets of pronouns they tend to prefer compared to their original outings, due to their mechanical natures making for a more neutral approach to their genders. A major plot point in The Monty & Foxy Show involves Monty's fears about being accepted as genderfluid, even having a distant father that - while having a falling out in the past - sends Monty a second, more feminine body to give them a choice of how to present.
  • Affably Evil: Ruin, who may be a literal serial killer, but he acts very friendly to those around him. The best example is him kidnapping Sun so he can have Moon play a game
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Eclipse, Killcode and Bloodmoon all originate from the same code
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Lunar, who takes over Moon's body. You can't help but feel for the guy.
    • Invoked by Moon in regards to Bloodmoon, as he never got the chance to get better
Moon: He couldn't change, he's dead!
    • Also Ruin, who is heavily implied to be possessed by a virus. When Moon tazes him back to Eclipse, he's left begging for help
  • All Justa Dream: Sun's conversation with Old Moon
  • And I Must Scream: HOO BOY
    • Sun in the past had to fight tooth and nail to keep Moon down, and it causes him unspeakable agony
    • Then he has to do the same with Eclipse
    • Then Moon is trapped in his body for weeks when Lunar comes around
    • Then both of them are trapped in their bodies by Eclipse and Lunar, with Moon having to feel pain everytime Lunar moves
    • Eclipse takes over Solar Flare's body
  • Another Dimension: A common theme. The brothers hop dimensions like they're hopping to a shop
  • Antagonist Title: Eclipse and Lunar Show
  • Arch-Enemy: Eclipse is this to basically everyone
  • Arc Villain:
    • Eclipse for the first part, with Lunar as his dragon
    • Bloodmoon and Killcode get in on the act for the second
    • In the background, we have the Creator as the Greater-Scope Villain
    • And a new challenger has appeared in the form of Ruin!
  • Armor-Piercing Response: In the argument about Bloodmoon
Sun: But the difference is, you changed! He's still the same, he only-
Moon: He couldn't change, he's dead!
  • Artifactof Doom: The Star, basically the most powerful thing in the Universe, which allows it's user to rewrite reality
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: The twins can get on each others nerves sometimes, but ultimately love each other.
  • Axe-Crazy: Blood Moon, Eclipse's first creation.
  • Backfromthe Dead: Eclipse, as well as Lunar
  • Badass Crew: Everyone. There's fourteen characters at minimum running around (not counting their allies in other universes) and you would not want to cross any of them
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Eclipse and Lunar take over the show and their hosts bodies. Eventually averted
  • Bewarethe Nice Ones:
    • Sun. He's a very sweet and bubbly animatronic, is quick to forgive Moon for his past behavior, tries to reach out to Eclipse when he first appears and is generally a very welcoming personality. He even admits that he wouldn't mind having the violent Bloodmoon as a brother. He says this after killing Bloodmoon after being pushed too far. He then goes on to hunt Eclipse down, going bunker to bunker until he finds him, and does not hesitate to (apparently) kill him. Then he tries to kill Solar Flare, believing he will side with Killcode. And of course, there's the fact that he's implied to be Golden Freddy's equal in terms of magical prowess.
    • Lunar. They're arguably even nicer than Sun. When pushed too, they rebel against his creator/brother Eclipse and set things in motion for Sun and Moon's eventual return
  • Big Fancy House: You would think Animatronics who live in a shopping mall wouldn't have their own private homes. You'd be wrong
  • Blue Is Heroic: Lunar, especially after he stops helping Eclipse.
  • Black-and-Gray Morality:
  • Breakthe Cutie: Sun's being going through it since the beginning. He's been fighting Moon for control of his body since almost day one, and this trend continues throughout his life. He kills Bloodmoon, and has to deal with the hallucinations caused by the event, his brother kept him in the dark and Sun's actions accidentally result in his brother losing his memories. Present day Sun is noticeably more tired and burnt out than he was at the start and even admits that he wishes he was dead
    • Lunar. It's made explicitly clear that Eclipse is abusive to them, and that he considers himself dumb. He finally breaks free of Eclipse, only for Sun to start acting like him and snap at him, and not long after Eclipse breaks into his home, causing him to flee to Monty's. And then he's killed in front of Monty. And then he's revived, to learn that Eclipse, his brother/murderer is dead. Yeesh
    • New Moon is compared to his predescessor near constantly and is always trying to make up for the mistakes of his past self. Then he learns Sun has been essentially killing himself via Star Power and hiding it from him. The poor dude is near tears by the end of it all
  • Broken Bird: The entire cast in some way, shape or form.
  • Cast Herd: There are seven channels starring different characters, not including side characters like Lunar, Earth, Golden Freddy or the Puppet
  • Cerebus Syndrome: Early episodes are silly, fun games. Things go off the rails quick
  • Chekhov'sGag: Moon has a stick that he loves to carry around. Sun notices that Lunar in Moon's body doesn't have it, and it serves to tip him off to what's going on
  • Combat Pragmatist:
    • Eclipse downloads his consciousness into Solar Flare's body. When Sun appears with a giant sword in hand, he pretend he's in the system instead, impersonating Solar Flare and goading Sun at the same time. This of course leads to . .
    • Sun, not bothering to wait for Eclipse to stop talking, simply stabs the computer he claims to be in mid sentence. Then he double checks with 'Solar Flare' to make sure there was no backups. Eclipse is stunned, to say the least
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: The entire plot was kickstarted by Moon separating from Sun, leaving behind some excess code, and not informing him
    • In general, half the issues that arise could be solved by open communication. It's basically a theme at this point
  • Darkest Hour: The Eclipse and Lunar Show
  • Despair Event Horizon: Moon hits his when he realizes Eclipse has a way to permanently take over his and Sun's bodies. He calls him up and begs him to reconsider
    • New Moon when he learns Sun has been using the Star
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Lunar using the box in the mindscape allows him to take over Moon's body permanently. This means he and Eclipse can't get to the Star
    • Eclipse gets an alert of someone whose magical power rivals Golden Freddy is heading towards his bunker, and realizes it's Sun because he's already inside. He tries to distract him by pretending to be in a computer, except Sun stabs it midsentence and makes it clear he no longer has any problems about killing. He's forced to reveal himself. At this point he knows A) Sun is in an incredibly volatile emotional state, B) Sun is the source of the very powerful magical spike on the sensos and C) they're in the bunker above the source of Moon's magic, which he needs to take down Killcode, someone Eclipse also wants gone. He deliberately chooses to taunt the very angry Sun into using his magic. End result? A giant crater where the bunker used to be, and Moon losing his magic when he needs it most
  • Disaster Dominoes: Moon deliberately leaving behind the Killcode and not telling Sun. This creates Eclipse, who creates Bloodmoon and things spiral accordingly
  • Domestic Abuse: Eclipse to Lunar. To a much, much lesser extent, parallels are drawn between Eclipse's treatment of Lunar and Moon's treatment of Sun. New Moon is horrified of this and is a lot better
  • Dramatic Irony: Lunar tells Eclipse they could use the viewers to find Monty, as there are more of them and they'd tell them what the want to know. Because of this, Eclipse doesn't even bother looking at the comments. Lunar himself notes they say exactly where Monty is, but him pointing it out put Eclipse off. Of course, this is what Lunar wants
  • The Dreaded: Eclipse
    • Even bigger than him Killcode
    • Of course, those two can still be bargained with, which is more than one could say for 'Bloodmoon'
    • And then there's the Creator
  • Dysfunction Junction: Everyone.
    • Moon has been trapped in Sun's head for years, and had to fight for the right to blink. He can be verbally and physically abusive, and struggles to show vulnerability
    • Sun has had to wrestle control since he was created, and believes himself to be more expendable than his much smarter brother. He also carries immense guilt from killing Bloodmoon and is actually a lot angrier than people expect
    • Eclipse is a control freak who never admits he's wrong and struggles to apologize for anything
    • Lunar was abused by Eclipse
    • Monty got the great privilege of witnessing Lunar's death
  • Evil Twin: Or rather, evil triplet, in the case of Eclipse.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite (Or because of) their bloodlust and sadism Bloodmoon really does care for each other.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Lunar, after Eclipse's treatment goes too far.
  • Long-Lost Relative: The Creator and Earth to Sun and Moon.
  • Mentor Archetype: Golden Freddy becomes this for Sun and Moon when he teaches them to suppress Eclipse for a time.
  • Nervous Wreck: Sun definitely has his moments.
  • Split-Personality Takeover: Eclipse has various moments where he attempts to take over Sun.
  • Science Fantasy:
  • Solar and Lunar:
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Moon gives a scathing one to Eclipse in The Truth of Eclipse.
Moon: You know, I always used to think, even when you and me were the same machine, I always did think 'I'm a little psychotic. I'm a little crazy.' You ranked that up to 11, just to fill some sad little empty void.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After the separation, Moon is significantly nicer than his canon counterpart. This turns out to be because the homicidal part of his code was left behind in Sun's body, manifesting as Eclipse.
