"I won't make the same mistake of wanting to possess an exorcist... but you will suffer! Your soul belongs to me for all eternity. It will witness helpless all the atrocities I shall commit!"
Ar'Az'Erm, to Sriza, Nains (Dwarves): Sriza of the Temple

The Lands of Arran harbor conflicting factions of Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Orcs, Goblins and other creatures. Of all the characters, a select few are especially vile.

All spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned!

Elfes (Elves)
  • The Crystal of the Blue Elves: The Black Elf Ulronn is the creator of the blue crystal controlling the ocean. Obsessed with its powers, Ulronn caused much havoc, at one point destroying an army with a wave. Defeated by King Amnon and the mage Nelyr, Ulronn enacts revenge a thousand years later. He murders Nelyr, magically coerces the population of Ennlya into slaughtering each other's and frames an Yrlan clan for the massacre. He then stages the invasion of Elsemur by the Yrlans through his accomplice Siemir. Under the appearance of his victim Vaalann, he manipulates everyone in order to locate the crystal, petrifies its guardians and annihilates the Yrlan army with his water soldiers. When the Blue Elves celebrate the victory, Ulronn raises a gigantic wave, threatening to submerge Elsemur.
  • White Elf, Black Heart: The pirate captain is a bloodthirsty human who hates the White Elves for their apparent superiority. After capturing the injured Alornell, the captain forces him to reveal the location of the island where the White Elves live by threatening to torture him to death. He and his men subsequently massacre their inhabitants, children included, and rape the women. Afterward, the captain reveals his intentions of tracking the survivors to take their ears and sell them to the orcs.
  • Great Master Thur'yn is the headmaster of Slurce who oversees the harsh training of Black Elves into cold-blooded killers. Teaching the arts of necromancy, Thu'ryn coldly orders every student to kill a classmate and capture their soul in a gem. He later attacks the student Gaw'yn, threatening to eat his soul. When Gaw'yn summons Thur'yn's soul, the latter explodes the head of assassin Scup'yn and incinerates Master Vahr'yn. Later flashbacks from the Blue Elves series reveal how truly horrible he is. When Ran'Saa, King of the Red Elves, refused to deliver his daughter Lah'Saa, Thur'yn retaliated by engineering the genocide of the Red Elves, and ordered the mage Slovtan to take control of Lah'Saa's body to force the little girl to murder her father. As a test of loyalty, he also tasked his best student Fenda'yn to lead the purge of his home city and kill his family.
  • Black as Blood: General Lp'hen is a half dark elf who pledged allegiance to the necromancer Lah'Saa and willingly assists her in her Zombie Apocalypse. Tasked with the conquest of the Southern Empires of Dumn and Assanide, Lp'hen assaults multiple ships with her men and has the crews converted into ghouls. When assassin Gaw'yn escapes, she forces him to work for her, threatening his life. She unleashes her ghouls on several villages, having their inhabitants either devoured or infected and unwillingly join her ranks. At one point, she orders the death of a group of fleeing women and children. Arriving in the capital of Majinor, she had Gaw'yn murder four mages before sacking the city. When Gaw'yn turns against her, she threatens to flay him for his betrayal. Unlike her mistress Lah'Saa, who's a Tragic Villain, Lp'hen has no redeeming qualities to offset her vileness.
  • Alyana and The Taste of Death: The Haruspex, real name Radabust, is a mage who seeks to become the most powerful being in Aran. Having turned into a half-fairy monster, Radabust gave birth to many children he trained and brainwashed to make them obedient. Manipulating people over the centuries with false prophecies, he set a plan to release and control the primordial Scourges. The Harsupex commissioned alchemists with the creation of a reliquary before killing them; caused the Scourgemother and her offspring to capture the white elves; ordered the death of Queen Tenashep in front of her daughter Alyana; and callously released the Scourges who wreak havoc in the world. Repeatedly attempting to corrupt Alyana's mind, he sends the Scourges against the White Elves Island while he conquers Elsemur, killing its guardians and threatening to destroy it completely. He then painfully drains his ally Orbotesh out of his life before attempting to do the same to Alyana.

Nains (Dwarves)

  • Sriza of the Temple: The Prince of Hej, Ar'Az'Erm, is a high-ranked demon who wants to lay waste to the land. Taking possession of a boy in an orphanage, Ar'Az'Erm murdered three other children, causing their ghosts to be unable to move to the afterlife, and scared Sriza after attempting to make him his vessel. Returning years later, the demon conquers at least five villages and has their inhabitants possessed by his kind. Seeking the Forbidden Treaty to open the gates of Hej, he assaults the dwarf city of Ark'om with his army of possessed. Upon his defeat, he takes possession of Sriza's friend Cargal before slaughtering the latter's wife and children. During his final confrontation with Sriza, he announces his intention of forcing Sriza's soul to helplessly witness his upcoming atrocities.

Orcs et Gobelins (Orcs and Goblins)

  • Bad Luck: Lord Draek is a half-elf necromancer who became immortal after injecting magical worms in his body. Draek experiments on numerous living subjects, forcibly impregnates many women with monstrous children, and enslaves the souls of the dead for his army. After betraying his lord and allowing a foreign army to seize the city, he became a mercenary offering his ghosts to allies in war which granted them easy victories. He then took over a village after massacring the lord and his court. Ruling with an iron fist for two centuries, he treacherously massacres the grey company, abducts and impregnates a baroness after amputating a finger. He reveals to her face his intentions of breeding their offspring together to perfect his monstrous race. Draek attempts to converts the orkelin Bad Luck into one of his ghosts after sewing weapons on his body and later beheads a boy. Draek also has no care for his children as he coldly murders his crippled son Nanulf before enslaving his soul.
  • Silence: Lyrengen is a charismatic yet amoral mercenary whose ambition is to rule a kingdom through fear. After accidentally leading the orc Yuudorm and his band into an ambush, Lyrengen betrays the company and allows a lord to condemn Yuudorm's son and his two teenage grandsons to be thrown down a well filled with leeches before sealing the entrance of the dungeon to cover his betrayal. Taking over the cult of the flayers, Lyrengen regularly conducts sacrifices on his own members by flaying them alive and sentencing enemies and trespassers alike to the same fate. Over 20 years, his domain is littered with hundreds of flayed bodies on display. Lyrengen also flays a minion just for contesting an order and threatens his dragon Tafleur with the same execution. When Yuudorm and his army seeks revenge, Lyrengen sends slaves just to slow them down. Lyrengen then abducts and tortures the goblin Freil for information and threatens to throw him off the fortress wall to stop his friend Yuudorm. When the orc falls into his clutches, Lyrengen gleefully reveals in detail how he caused his family's agonizing death.
  • Kronan: Shaala, who usurped and imprisoned her twin sister Nawell—keeping her alive to be tortured and raped—first takes revenge on the healer who abandoned her as a baby by putting his entire village to the sword. She then slaughters her orcish army, sparing Captain Kronan to be crucified and fed to the vultures. Ruling the city of Antarya with her cruel husband Syrius, Shaala forces women to participate in orgies and practices Human Sacrifice with 500 men, women, and children burned alive in the span of seven months. When Kronan led the liberation, Shaala plans to feed hundreds of prisoners to her demonic pet Raal-Gur. Cornered, she attempts to murder Nawell and release Raal-Gur to destroy both the city and Kronan's army.
  • Lardeur: Lort, Lukrenn, and Lamyrad are three sadistic old men who took over a dwarf fortress in an oasis and turned the basement into a perilous maze filled with monsters and deadly traps. Having over 200 unsuspecting travelers thrown in the labyrinth, the trio watches them struggle and die, for their amusement. The few survivors end up brainwashed and tortured—with their tongues cut out—so that they become their servants. They also keep a prisoner inside of a cage and have him beg others for years to kill him. Confronted by the orc Lardeur who won the latest game, the trio gleefully reveals that they murdered his brother and tricked his entire band into eating his body.
