Go To

The sixth episode of the seventh season of Garfield and Friends.

Post-opening sequence line: "Today, featuring the return of the Singing Ants! Boy, they have a good agent!"

Model Behavior

A supermodel named Heather St. Claire goes on a date with Jon, with the secret intention of getting Garfield.

Egg Over Easy, Part Two

Orson, Bo, and Roy finish the story of the time Wade decided to shell himself up in a paper-mache egg and the problems that arose form it.

Another Ant Episode

When the Singing Ants from "The Picnic Panic" return and raid Jon's house, Jon calls Mr. Crater the Bug Exterminator to get rid of them.

"Model Behavior" provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Heather mistakenly calls Jon "Jim", "Jerry", "Ron", "Michael", "Lonnie", and "Don". It gets to the point where Jon calls himself "Ron".
  • Drives Like Crazy: Heather drives so fast that it horrifies both Jon and Garfield, the latter of which remarks that he just discovered the joys of walking. Her attempts to fly of her private plane are no better, since she never learned how to land.
  • Tempting Fate: When Jon falls head-over-heels for Heather, Garfield says that Jon thinks the most beautiful woman on the planet will just walk up to him and ask her to go away with her. Cue Heather doing just that.

"Egg Over Easy, Part Two" provides examples of:

  • Aesop Amnesia: Played with; after Orson, Bo, and Roy finish the story, they find that Wade has shelled himself up in a paper-mache egg once again. When Orson asks him why he did that, since he decided he didn't want to be an egg anymore, Wade tells him he decided to give it one more chance now that the Weasel is gone, since there's no one to menace him. Bo is disappointed that Wade didn't learn his lesson, and Orson concludes that Wade's decision has rendered this episode's moral pointless. Wade then gets chased by the Easter Bunny, who wants to paint him, learning the hard way that just because the Weasel's gone doesn't mean he's safe.
  • Birthday Episode: This episode takes place on Wade's Birthday. As an egg, he finds he is unable to celebrate it since in order to have a birthday, you have to be born, and he can't blow out his candles or eat cake. When Wade hatches and stands up to the Weasel, he is soon rescued by Orson, Roy, and Bo, who decide to celebrate his birthday after all, since he was finally born.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Subverted; Roy installs an alarm to pull in case of trouble, activated by pulling a chain. When Wade gets chased by the weasel, he remembers the alarm and tries to pull the chain to activate it, but can't since his arms are trapped inside his eggshell.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Wade keeps bumping into things because the paper-mache eggshell keeps obscuring his vision.
    • When Booker tells Wade that he missed his birthday party, Wade rushes back to celebrate it, deciding not to be afraid of birthdays. By the time he gets to his party, it's over, and Orson tells him that in order to be a birthday party, he has to be born; eggs can't have birthday parties.
    • When Wade tries to blow out the candles on his birthday cake, the eggshell blocks his mouth, preventing him from doing so. He also can't eat the cake for the same reason.
    • When Wade is chased by the Weasel, he yells for help, but none of his friends can hear him due to his voice being muffled behind his eggshell.
    • When Wade gets chased by the Weasel, he tries to pull the chain to activate the alarm, but can't because his arms are inside his eggshell.
    • At the end of the episode, Wade decides to shell himself up again now that the Weasel isn't around to menace him anymore. He soon gets chased by the Easter Bunny, who wants to paint him.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: When Wade decides he does not want to be an egg anymore, he hatches and stands up to the Weasel. He is soon saved by Orson, Roy, and Bo, and they decide to celebrate his birthday after all, feeling it only fair since he was finally born.
  • Exit, Pursued by a Bear: This episode ends with Wade, having decided to shell himself up again, being chased by the Easter Bunny, who wants to paint him.
  • Here We Go Again!: This episode ends with Wade having decided to shell himself up again, thinking he'll be safe now that the Weasel is gone. However, he soon gets chased by the Easter Bunny.
  • Literal Metaphor: When Wade decides he doesn't want to be an egg anymore, he hatches, then stands up to the Weasel, saying that he has come out of his shell.
  • Mama Bear: Orson, Roy, and Bo invoke this trope on the Weasel by disguising themselves as Wade's mother to save Wade.
  • Previously on…: Orson welcomes the viewers back to the show, saying this is the second part of the story of how Wade became an egg again, and Roy gives a brief recap of the previous part's events, Motor Mouth style.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The Weasel runs away after he sees the disguised Orson, Roy, and Bo, believing them to be Wade's Mom.
  • Totem Pole Trench: Oron, Roy, and Bo use a trenchcoat and the feathers they swept out of the chicken coop to disguise themselves as Wade's mother to save Wade from the Weasel. Roy is on top, Bo is in the middle, and Orson is on the bottom.
  • Watch Out for That Tree!: Wade keeps running into trees due to his eggshell obscuring his vision.
  • Wicked Weasel: The Weasel hunts down Wade in this episode, having mistaken him for a giant egg.

"Another Ant Episode" provides examples of:

  • Ant Assault: The antagonists of this episode are the singing ants, who steal all the food from Jon's house and counter most of Mr. Crater's methods.
  • Attack! Attack... Retreat! Retreat!:
    • "I chased it (Garfield's sandwich being carried by the ants) to a neighbor's yard and right into a shed, and there I saw a pit bull, so I turned and quickly fled!"
    • "I thought I'd get them with Ant Repellent Spray. The ants grabbed up the can from me and chased me far away!"
  • The Bad Guy Wins: The ants get away with stealing Jon's food, and Jon's house is destroyed by the Bug Annihilator robot. Just when Garfield and Jon are relieved that the ants are gone, the ants sing about how they remain undefeated and will return for a third episode by the time the house is rebuilt.note
  • Cartoon Bug-Sprayer: Jon attempts to use one on the ants, only for the ants to snatch it from him and chase him with it.
  • Downer Ending: Jon's food is stolen by the ants and his house is destroyed by the Bug Annihilator robot. The ants sing that they "cannot be killed" and will return for another episode.
  • The Great Exterminator: Jon and Garfield find an ad in the phone book for a renowned exterminator named Mr. Crater, who uses a robot to drive pests away and introduces himself with a song including the lines:
    Mr. Crater:
    "From here to the Equator,
    "Everyone knows Mr. Crater!
    I'm the best exterminator!"
  • Karma Houdini: The Ants gets away with stealing Jon's food and they proudly boast about doing so. They escape from Jon's house when Mr. Crater unleashes the Bug Annihilator on them, but Jon's house is destroyed in the process.
  • Musical Episode: As this episode features the Singing Ants, all the dialogue is done in song.
  • Never Say "Die": Averted; the ants sing that they "cannot be killed".
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Nearly all of the dialogue is done in rhyme.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Mr. Crater unleashes the Bug Annihilator robot on the ants, one of them says "Forget the chorus, guys! Let's scram!" and the ants flee.
  • Sequel Episode: To "The Picnic Panic".
  • Sequel Hook: This episode ends with the singing ants teasing a third episode starring them. However, a third ant episode was not made due to the show ending after its seventh season.
  • Series Continuity Error: The singing ants are red in this episode, even though they were black in both "The Picnic Panic" and "A Vacation From His Senses".
  • Strong Ants: The ants are able to pick up large objects.
  • Trash the Set: Jon's house is destroyed by the Bug Annihilator robot.
