Tropes:

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: After Reze spots her, Kobeni is left too flatfooted to stand up, instead slumping over and begging for her life. True to her claim she'd rather avoid killing people, Reze leaves, and Kobeni continues groveling afterward.
''I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'll quit this job! Just please have mercyyyy!
  • Anti-Regeneration: A pair of Division 2 Devil Hunters attack Reze by growing mold inside her heart and intestines, which will continually attack her from the inside even if she heals. Reze counters by decapitating herself and regenerating from her head, leaving the mold behind in a body she uses as an expendable bomb.
  • Apologetic Attacker: After Reze first attacks and incapacitates Denji, she gives him a deep, sincere kiss (albeit one where his mouth is full of blood) and makes it clear she really wishes he'd have joined her willingly.
Does it hurt? I know. I'm sorry. I'm gonna take your heart now, okay?
  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: In order to fight against Bomb and Typhoon, Denji needs to figure out a way to traverse his environment, so Beam mentions that the Chainsaw Devil would often use his chains to move around. Based on this, Denji... uses his chains as ropes so he can ride Beam in his shark form. Poor Beam doesn't have it in him to correct him.
  • Barbie Doll Anatomy: As she prepares to skinny dip, Reze gives Denji and the reader a frontal view of her bare chest and crotch. Her breasts aren't drawn with nipples, even having a break in the outline where they would be, and her lower body is only detailed enough to show the separation between her legs and pelvis.
  • Cassandra Truth: Reze claims that she wasn't lying when she said she like Denji, though Aki yells it's just another lie to throw Denji off.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: The second time Reze prepares a killing blow against Aki, Violence reenters after fleeing the scene and pulls Aki to safety.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Reze teaches Denji how to swim in Chapter 42, which is later utilized to get himself and Reze out of the ocean after he incapacitates her by wrapping them up in chains together and throwing them into water.
  • Declaration of Protection: Reze promises to protect Denji if he agrees to run away with her. It's a level of effort that heavily implies that Reze may have genuine feelings for him.
  • Decoy Antagonist: Chapter 41 ends with implications that the Typhoon Killer will be the Arc Villain, and that Reze is in danger due to her affiliation with Denji. The Killer is quickly dispatched by Reze, who is soon revealed to be a Russian agent fused with the Bomb Devil.
  • Disposing of a Body: After Reze cows the Typhoon Devil into her service, she demands it dispose of the body of its contractor, which it does through unknown means.
  • Dramatic Irony: The arc ends with Denji believing that Reze abandoned him and really never cared about him, completely unaware that she had attempted to reunite with him but had been killed and captured literally just across the street.
  • Gilligan Cut: After Reze strips in front of Denji and invites him to do the same, we see two successive panels of Denji standing in the same position. The first is full of thought balloons of him freaking out over Reze's nudity and insisting he to turn her down to stay faithful to Makima. In the second, he is completely naked, with his crotch covered by the sole balloon, which reads "Dammit."
  • Horrifying the Horror: The Typhoon Devil has Weather Manipulation powers and its true form is that of a giant tornado of intestines. And yet, it's talked into submission by Reze, who is weak against the rain it controls, and basically bullied into becoming her mook for the rest of the arc.
  • Kiss of Death: After Denji refuses to run away with Reze, she kisses him right as fireworks go off. Denji falls over, at first seeming to suffer from Post-Kiss Catatonia. He is actually in physical shock because Reze bit his tongue off, during which time she cuts open his throat and takes off his hand so he can't transform.
  • Let's Fight Like Gentlemen: Parodied; Reze complains that she shouldn't have to fight Aki and the Violence Fiend at once when she's running out of blood and almost naked. Violence is almost convinced, and when Aki refuses, it turns out Reze was just stalling until the Typhoon Devil arrived to back her up.
Violence: Should we give her a handicap?
    Aki: No.
Violence: You heard the boss man! Sorry!
    (The Typhoon Devil barges in)
    Violence: Hey, no fair!
  • In Love with the Mark: It's all but outright shown that Reze had fallen in love with Denji, whose heart she was supposed to retrieve for her Russian superiors.
  • Love at First Sight: We are treated to a full splash page of Reze when Denji gets a good look at her, and he has a very confused look on his face.
  • Meet Cute: Denji and Reze meet in a phone booth while trying to take cover from the rain.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: It's heavily implied by the end of the arc that Denji had developed feelings for Reze stronger than his attraction to Makima, even attempting to outright abandon his goal of getting with her to run away with Reze. It's worth noting that the bouquet of flowers that Denji had while waiting for Reze was a romantic gesture that he had never been shown attempting before, not even for Makima who he was supposedly in love with.
  • Red Shirt Army: Some time is spent introducing Aki's old team, Public Safety Division 2, who end up being slaughtered by Reze.
  • Rewatch Bonus: The end of the arc reveals Reze was raised to fight by the Soviet military, giving many of her words and action to Denji a new context.
Reze: Making a 16-year-old fight devils to the death? Not even letting you go to school? The government shouldn't allow that.
  • Secretly Dying: Nomo believes he'll make vice-captain in five years and get Aki back on his team. Aki doesn't tell him his Curse Devil contract has already brought his lifespan down to two.
  • So Much for Stealth: Kobeni tries to sneak up on Reze while she's fighting the Violence Fiend, but the latter gives away Kobeni's location by abruptly yelling that they need to run away.
  • Skinny Dipping: When Reze teaches Denji how to swim in the school pool, she has both take all their clothes off. She justifies it by pointing out it's dangerous to swim with clothes on and (falsely) claiming it's too dark to see anything.
  • Tactical Withdrawal: The instant before Reze can blow up Aki's car, Violence kicks her off the top and prepares to fight. When she matches Violence's brute force without even using her explosive powers, he runs away. Despite seeming like pure cowardice, Violence does come back to fight alongside Aki—though bizarrely, Violence considers giving her a handicap.
  • Two-Person Pool Party: Reze and Denji don't actually have sex while naked in the pool, they just hold hands to teach Denji to paddle, but it's a very intimate moment.
  • Two Scenes, One Dialogue: While miles apart, Angel and Reze explain "The Town Mouse & the Country Mouse" to Aki and Denji, respectively, and how it relates to their lives.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Denji is confused about his frequent visits to Reze's cafe as well as his fondness for her.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Denji outright asks Reze why she didn't bother killing him despite having many opportunities to do so easily. Reze is noticeably quiet before quickly changing the subject.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Reze follow Beam to Division 2's training facilities, appearing in human form and telling Nomo she's being pursued by a devil. It fails for a number of reason, first among them that Reze can't make herself look scared.
Nomo: Pretty big smile for someone being attacked.
