George Layton, born George Michael William Löwy, (2 March 1942), is a British actor best known for playing Paul Collier in Doctor in the House and Bombardier Solomons in It Ain't Half Hot, Mum.

He studied at RADA, which was followed by leading parts treading the boards at Coventry and Nottingham. His first TV role came in a 1961 episode of BBC Sunday-Night Play. Early in his career he appeared in Swizzlewick and United!, both of which are now lost, and also played Mario in two episodes of The Likely Lads. In 1969, he appeared in all six episodes of the Doctor Who serial, "The Space Pirates".

That same year, he starred in Doctor in the House as medical student Paul Collier. He stayed on with the series for the follow-ups Doctor at Large and Doctor in Charge, and from Doctor at Sea onwards moved on to writing for it instead. The same year as Doctor at Sea, he starred in It Ain't Half Hot, Mum as Bombardier Solomons, and left the series after Series 2.

He and his Doctor co-writer Jonathan Lynn also wrote episodes of On the Buses, Nearest and Dearest, and Romany Jones, as well as an unproduced X-rated Carry On film, Carry On Again Nurse. The two began to write separately in the mid-70s, so Layton wrote for Robin's Nest and created the series Don't Wait Up and Executive Stress. From 1979 to 1982, he played Des in a few episodes of Minder but had to leave the role due to commitments to a pantomime. In his later years, he considered leaving Minder to be a mistake.

In The '90s, he played Dr. Collier one final time in the critically panned Doctor at the Top and provided narration for Joshua Jones. More recently, he has made appearances in Doctors, Holby City, Heartbeat, The Bill, 24 episodes of EastEnders, Vicious, and CASUAL+Y.
