    Jamie Hughes

Jamie Hughes “Jamie Lefleur

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7b05b8f4_88b5_4551_a926_0f5bfdce0b99.jpeg

Portrayed By: Kiernan Shipka

A teenager who travels back in time and tries to stop an infamous small town slasher.

  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: A downplayed example but she is pretty insensitive to her mother's concerns and trauma.
  • Expy: Of Marty McFly, a teenager who travels back in 30 years and meets his parents and makes changes that ultimately for the better.
  • Immune to Drugs: During the party scene where the 2nd murder occurs, Jamie claims to have eaten multiple brownies, only to be told much later on that those were cannabis-laced. When Jamie wondered why she's still sober whereas the rest are in a high-mood, Kara replied that she probably had a strong tolerance. Truth in Television and also pointed out by Jamie herself, modern weed is generally more potent compared to that of the past. And given that edibles are the fastest to develop a tolerance to, and also the mention early on that Jamie does partake in edibles in the present - It's plausible that her weed tolerance had grown to ridiculous levels.
  • Generation Xerox: Jamie finds out that her mother Pam was just like her during her younger days, being rebellious and rude towards her mother (i.e.: Jamie's grandmother).
  • Only Sane Man: When she's thrown into the past, Jamie is repeatedly appalled at the lack of concern and common sense most of the adults and teens show even before the killings start. Even with the in-universe Values Dissonance at play, Jamie remains the only one to stay focused on protecting herself and the other girls before things get really bad.

    Pam Miller-Hughes

Pam Miller Hughes

Portrayed By: Julie Bowen (Present day), Olivia Holt (1987)

Jamie’s mother who survived the original killings but was eventually killed when the Sweet 16 Killer returned.

  • Academic Alpha Bitch: Pam was not only a highschool mean girl, but a smart one.
  • Token Good Teammate: Of the Molly’s. After she’s killed, Principal Summers says she had always been kind to him, and the fact she was not involved in bullying his girlfriend is why he spared her when he killed the other Molly’s in 1987.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: While she was already the nicest of The Mollys, she was still mean enough that it shocks Jamie as her Pam is quite sweet in present day.

Portrayed By: Lochlyn Munroe (Present day), Charlie Gillespie (1987)

Jamie’s dad and Pam’s husband.

Portrayed By: Kimberly Huie (Present Day, Troy L. Johnson (1987)

  • Crazy-Prepared: Has a book ready for Jamie with all the changes that happened when she returns to the present.
  • Teen Genius: So much that not only does Jamie know to go to her when she gets stuck in the 80’s, she completely believes Jamie when she tells her she’s from the future because she’s just that confident that she could make time travel possible.

    Doug Summers

Principal Doug Summers

Portrayed By: Conrad Coates (Present day), Nathaniel Appiah (1987)

  • Nice Guy: In both the present and the 80's Doug is incredibly sweet.

    Kara Lim

Portrayed By: Patti Kim (Present Day), Ella Choi (1987)

  • Irrational Hatred: In present day she hates Blake, and according to Jamie she has for quite some time. But in the 80’s they were friends and no real falling out is shown on screen. Ultimately this trope was subverted by the end of the second act, where after Heather's death Blake voiced his suspicion about Kara, causing their friendship to break up.

    Randy Finkle

Portrayed By: Tommy Europe (Present Day), Jeremy Monn-Djasgnar (1987)

  • Reformed Bully: He’s an absolute douche in 1987, but is not shown to be malicious in present day where he works for Doug, who didn’t deem him worthy of death when they were teens. And in the revised present Randy seems to be a well liked principal in Doug’s place.

    Chris Dubasage

Portrayed By: Jonathan Potts (Present Day), Nicholas Lloyd (1987)

  • Attention Whore: What he is at best.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: While Doug,Lauren and Jamie are actively barred from the house party, Chris is at least allowed to attend. No one is particularly nice to him though as Blake destroys his camera.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Blake called him Douchbasage in highschool. He still does in present day but mostly because he finds Chris’s exploitation of the 1987 killing spree crass.
  • Trashy True Crime: He hosts a podcast on the brutal murder of his classmates which a good amount of the other survivors find to be crass.

The Sweet Sixteen Killer (Unmarked Spoliers

The Sweet Sixteen Killer

Portrayed By: Adrian Persad (stunts)

Tropes applying to both Sweet Sixteen Killers

  • Ret-Gone: The both end up not existing as they did in the present. Doug is gone all together as his past self was killed while Chris led an entirely different life after watching his father killed by his future self.
  • Serial Killer: But of course, being the killer of a slasher and all.
  • Walking Spoiler: Notice most of the spoilers in the film are involving the real identities of the killers.

Doug Summers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8205a0f1_7cda_4e66_996d_d42796b5fcdd.jpeg

Portrayed By: Nathaniel Appiah

The original killer who only killed three Molly’s because they were directly responsible for the death of his girlfriend Trish, after which he retired and eventually became the principal.

  • Affably Evil: He's a murderer but there's no indication that his friendliness and kind nature aren't genuine.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: While he was wrong to seek it through murder, he was justified in wanting revenge against the Mollys for getting Trish killed. He didn’t even kill anyone else afterward and became a kindly principal. Now that’s all gone. And since Marissa gets killed by a time traveling Chris Dubasage his death was All for Nothing.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Doug mentions Pam was always kind to him, making this a possible reason he left her out of his killing spree of the other Mollys.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: A kindly hall monitor that takes a lot of bullying towards himself on the chin. However, he has his limits, and is quite a dangerous killer who knows karate.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: His murders were limited to the Molly's and no one else, even sparing Pam for being less culpable than the others.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Kara saves the day by impaling him from behind with a scythe.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: A rare retroactive case thanks to time travel. He originally got away scott free, and became a principal with no one the wiser. But Jamie time traveling caused a domino effect that led to the death of his younger self mid spree, erasing Principal Summers from existence.
  • Retired Monster: He killed the Mollys and then quit and eventually became principal, seemingly content with his revenge, which is probably why he never got caught.
  • Revenge: The motivation for his killing spree, and the reason the Sweet Sixteen Killer never killed anyone else.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: His actions in the past had inspired an Attention Whore / Copycat Killer, which led to the events of the film.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: He's regarded as a pillar of the community and a respected principal when he's really an infamous murderer.

Chris Dubasage

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ff8f2464_4b10_4d03_9987_89c76b135e97.jpeg

Portrayed By: Jonathan Potts

A former classmate of Pam and Blake’s who hosts a podcast on the original Sweet Sixteen Killings. He decided to restart the killing spree in hopes that it would garner a bigger audience.

  • Appeal to Fear: He believes that three murders from 35 years ago is not enough of a tragedy to sustain the attention he wants from podcasting on it. So making a boogeyman out of the Sweet Sixteen Killer was his plan to fix that.
  • Copycat Killer: Took up the mantle of the Sweet Sixteen Killer for his own purpose.
  • Hate Sink: While Doug has a sympathetic motive, wanting revenge on the Mollys for getting his girlfriend killed, Chris Dubasage does not. He's just a creepy asshole who killed Jamie's mom to further capitalize on the attention and money it brings him as a podcaster on the Sweet 16 Killer.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Killed his own father in front of his younger self.
  • Single-Issue Wonk: His obsession with the Sweet Sixteen Killer. His podcast is nothing but the Sweet Sixteen Killer, which is beginning to flag (as pointed out by others, there is only so much you can milk of a single spree killer who only killed three people forty years ago, not to mention keeping going on and on about it is disrespectful to the victims) so he makes the decision to go on a copycat spree to create new content instead of beginning to research other killers. This obsession is also portrayed as an inability to let go of the past.
  • Trashy True Crime: His podcast was already this before the reveal but now it gets bonus points for him trying to create new content to podcast on.
