A list of characters appearing in Phantasy Star Nova.
The Protagonist
The main character and close friend of Lutina. They are a fresh recruit aboard the Delta Valiant, a planetary exploration ship belonging to Alter. After a routine combat exercise with Fildia, things quickly spirals out of control as the ship is shot down and drags them in a battle of survival on the hostile planet of Machia.
- Character Customization: As with the Guardian, the protagonist can be either a Human, Newman, or CAST and be customized extensively to suit the player's tastes.
- Deadpan Snarker: Certain dialogue responses during the story can paint them as this, often being blunt and joking towards those around them.
- Ensign Newbie: Starts out as fresh recruit of the Delta Valiant crew but over the course of the story they essentially become one of its leading members and eventual captain by the end.
- Heroic Mime: Despite being primarily silent, they'll often emote their thoughts via body language and sometimes through dialogue options. This is averted during gameplay however where the player can select a voice for the protagonist which will cause them to speak during battle.
- The Peeping Tom: You can be this in the hot springs event if you're persistent enough. Oddly, the same applies for female characters, even though it makes zero sense whatsoever.
- You Are in Command Now: Fildia abruptly declares them the captain seconds before her Heroic Sacrifice.
Lutina
A human girl and close friend of the protagonist. Much like the former, she's a new recruit of the Delta Valiant. She seeks to improve her fighting skill and expand beyond her abilities as a Force. A proposal from Hyperion about becoming a movie star leads her to question her own future, as well as her buddy's. When not on duty, she can be found hanging out near the Costume Shop.
- Action Girl: A given since she's a member of ARKS, even more so when one considers the challenges she and the protagonist have to face together.
- Affectionate Nickname: Refers to the protagonist as "buddy" as they've known each other since their days as students at ARKS Academy.
- Blow You Away: She uses Wind Technics.
- Boxing Battler: She tries out the Knuckles to hone her skill.
- Genki Girl: Quite upbeat and ever optimistic despite her own fears about the crew's current situation on Machia.
- Pink Heroine: She wears a lot of pink.
- Wind Is Green: Evergreen glows green to signify its innate Wind Element.
- Stripperific: Downplayed, but compared to the others, Lutina's outfit shows quite a bit of skin after the crash damages it badly. The end result is her exposes her midriff and her skirt is torn slightly to show more of her thighs.
Juno
A mysterious girl who resides on the planet of Machia and communicates with the player and his/her party via hologram.
- Color-Coded Characters: Green is her theme.
- Human Aliens: Juno is virtually indistinguishable from a human, except for the Gran valves on her back.
- Humanoid Abomination: Juno is a Gigantes.
- Navel-Deep Neckline: Her outfit has a neckline that plunges down to her navel.
- Tron Lines: Her outfit has a lot of glowy gold lines.
Sail
A Human Hunter who wields Partizans and is Izuna's partner. While not on the field, he can be found at the Shield Unit Shop.
- Always Save the Girl: His debut has him protecting Izuna with everything he's got and making sure she doesn't get hurt.
- Color-Coded Characters: Wears predominantly blue armor.
- Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: With Izuna He fights on the frontlines as a Hunter while Izuna provides cover as a Ranger.
- Hot-Blooded: Always ready for action even when injured.
- Leeroy Jenkins: Is noted to be quite reckless and Lutina even lambasts him for failing to use healing items during battle.
- Red Baron: Sail the Unyielding, a nickname he received during his academy days for excelling at all training drills the academy had put him through.
Izuna
A Newman Ranger who has a reputation for a sweet tooth. She is Sail's partner and can often be found near the Salon while off-duty.
- Action Girl: With an Assault Rifle, even!
- Dark Is Not Evil: Silent Violet is of the Dark element.
- Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: With Sail.
Fildia
A Human Hunter with incredible combat prowess. She succeeds Captain Magnus as captain after his death and works to ensure the survival of the Delta Valiant's crew.
- Action Girl: One of the strongest ARKS operatives among the Delta Valiant crew.
- Color-Coded Characters: Her color of choice is red.
- Cool Big Sis: Towards her subordinates. Fildia cares for everyone under her command and wants to make sure they all get to leave the planet together.
- Expy: Of Zeno. Both wear predominantly red outfits, use swords in combat, and also act as friendly mentor figures towards their juniors. Fildia even ends up pulling her own Heroic Sacrifice by the end.
- Hot-Blooded: Speaks with a rough tone and eager to throw herself into the fray similar to Sail.
- Red Is Heroic: She wears a lot of red and is the powerful captain of the Delta Valiant.
- You Are in Command Now: Her position as captain is forced upon her when Magnus dies.
Magnus
The captain of the Delta Valiant. Even under the toughest of pressures, he stays calm and collected.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: He is fatally wounded by a Gran Darker attack soon after the Delta Valiant crash lands on Machia and dies shortly afterwards. Before his passing, he passes on command of the Delta Valiant to Fildia.
Reven
A newman scientist and operator aboard the Delta Valiant. His main class is Force.
Sharon
A CAST scientist working with the Delta Valiant. She handles the Laboratory.
- Action Girl: You can acquire her Partner Card in Version 1.04, allowing her to be this.
Kisara
The main operator of the Delta Valiant. She can often be found in the captain's room.
Callisto
The dashing mechanic of the Delta Valiant. Manages the Item Shop.
Yomi
A weapons technician and master craftsman who created the legendary Morning Red. He seeks to create a new weapon, the Twilight Blue. Manages the Weapon Shop.
Orcus
The Delta Valiant's trainer. Manages the Class Counter.
Hyperion
The head chef for the Delta Valiant. Manages the Restaurant.
