The Spring Family

    Tori Spring

Victoria Annabel Spring

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tori_8.jpg
Charlie and Oliver's sarcastic though loving older sister.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Always knows when something goes wrong and is willing to support her brothers, especially Charlie to handle his feelings.
    • She makes it clear to David in no uncertain terms that she will make his life absolute hell if he continues doing the same to Charlie.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Eager to give sarcastic and rather pessimistic remarks.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: With her long black hair, pallid skin, piercing blue eyes and uncanny ability to seemingly teleport directly behind Charlie (always making him jump), she certainly fits the bill.
  • Friendless Background: Implied. She doesn't like going out, and neither her friends nor classmates are seen.
  • Hero of Another Story: She is the main protagonist of Solitaire
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: She's only 5'2 while her boyfriend Michael is 6'3. Images of the two show this height difference in all its glory.
  • Opposites Attract: Her boyfriend Michael is goofy and cheerful while she is pessimistic and stoic. This extends to their sexualities; Tori is on the acearo spectrum while Michael is pansexual.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Aside from Julio's dark hair and tanner complexion, Tori is the spit of her mother Jane. On a romance level, both fell for nerdy guys with glasses.
  • The Stoic: Downplayed She's hardly ever seen smiling or showing any strong emotions but is genuinely happy or sad for her brothers.
  • When She Smiles: Tori is quite stoic and her smiles tend to be more like smirks. However the occasions where she does genuinely smile (usually evoked by her brothers or boyfriend) it is extremely sweet.

    Oliver Spring

Oliver Jonathan Spring

Charlie and Tori's energetic youngest brother, also known as Olly. He loves playing Mario Kart and with tractors. He's an adorable six-year-old boy who deeply cares for his older siblings and supports Charlie in his relationship with Nick.

  • Big Little Brother: Despite being the youngest, art of the adult Spring siblings shows he ends up significantly taller than Tori and Charlie.
  • Cheerful Child: Unlike his older siblings, he's playful, curious, optimistic, pleased to give advice, and always smiling.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: He's obsessed with Nick's dogs; Nellie and Henry. Charlie needs to drag him away from them after the families have dinner together and desperately wants a dog of his own.
  • Practically Different Generations: He's around nine years younger than Tori and eight years younger than Charlie.
  • Shipper on Deck: He's fully supportive of Nick and Charlie's relationship and wants them to get married.
  • The Cutie: He's adorable, joyful, nice to everybody, and really innocent, justified given his age.
  • Youngest Child Wins: Downplayed. He isn't smarter or luckier than the other two, but is the only sibling who doesn't suffer from any mental illness or disorder.

    Jane and Julio Spring

Charlie, Tori, and Oliver's parents. Jane is an Englishwoman and Julio is half British and half Spanish. Their meeting and relationship is recounted in a Spin-off. They both seem traditional and rather strict.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: Jane's parents were emotionally abusive and manipulative to her when she was growing up (and don't seem to have changed much after becoming grandparents)note . While Jane is by no means perfect, she's clearly far better than her parents ever were and despite disagreements, her children adore her.
  • The Determinator: At around twenty years old, Jane took a train from Bath to Cambridge (which takes about three hours) and wandered around the grounds of Cambridge University with nothing but a map and a vague description of Julio, just on the off chance she might see him again. It paid off.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Its becomes pretty obvious how their love story ends when one remembers Tori, Charlie, and Ollie, well, exist.
  • Happily Married: They do disagree on some matters but generally have a loving marriage.
  • Let Him Grow Up, Dear: Jane is a bit iffy about Charlie spending so much time with Nick, while Julio is a lot more relaxed about it.
  • Love at First Sight: They seem to have had this during their first meeting in Jane and Julio
  • Open-Minded Parent: They are perfectly accepting of Charlie's sexuality.
  • Opposites Attract: It certainly seems that way, with Jane being somewhat high-strung while Julio is pretty laid back.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Charlie states he and his mother never really talk about their emotions, which ultimately leads to conflict between the pair. Despite this, there's never any doubt that the pair deeply care about each other.
  • Second Love: Julio was in a relationship with a woman named Tracey for two years before meeting Jane.

The Nelson family

     Sarah Nelson

Nick's mother, a kind and understanding woman who deeply loves her sons.
  • Good Parents: To Nick and David, which makes one wonder how David became such an arse.
  • Like Mother Like Son: It's clear who Nick inherited his sweet nature from.
  • Mama Bear: Fiercely protective and caring of Nick, including defending him from David's bullying and calling out Stéphane for being neglectful.
  • Open-Minded Parent: Accepting and supportive of Nick's bisexuality and his relationship with Charlie.
    Nellie

Nellie is a Border Collie who has been Nick's friend for years.
    David Nelson
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1fd2107f_d940_451e_9815_bfe517f71a04.jpeg
Nick's older brother who is away at university. Generally appears to be a homo/biphobic dickhead.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: To Tori, who wants nothing to do with him.
  • Big Brother Bully: Makes a lot of biphobic remarks at Nick after the latter comes out.
  • Hate Sink: He is a smug homophobic douchebag with zero redeeming qualities.
  • Lean and Mean: Built skinny where Nick is stocky, and rotten to the core.
  • Never My Fault: Has yet to acknowledge how much of a bully he's being to Charlie and Nick.
  • Smug Smiler: Usually sports this look whenever he's being a dick...which is often.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: He's a manipulative bully which is as far from the soft-hearted, gentle Nick as you can get.
     Stéphane Nelson
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4280ca31_de67_4a98_b5df_1019a50758cc.jpeg
Nick's absentee father.
  • Disappeared Dad: Lives back in his natal France and works a lot.
  • Open-Minded Parent: Once Nick reveals the nature of he and Charlie's relationship to his father, Stéphane is fully supportive and voices his approval of Charlie.
  • Parental Neglect: Rarely makes time for Nick, even when they're in the same city.
  • Parents as People: Once Nick expresses how his father's absenteeism hurts him, Stéphane feels horribly guilty and promises to make up for lost time (although whether he'll succeed is yet to be shown).
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He and his youngest son Nick look rather alike.
  • Workaholic: Constantly at work and rarely around for his sons.
