The Oni

A group of demons originating from Japan, who once terrorized both Earth and Meridian with their Shadowkhan armies, until their Generals were sealed away in magical masks and their King fled into the Shadow Realm. But now he's awakened, and the masks are in play again.

     Tarakudo
The King of the Shadowkhan and Lord of All Oni, seeking to free his Generals from their mask prisons and conquer the world.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: He became King of the Oni by fighting his way to the top.
  • Blood Knight: He loves a good fight.
  • Horrifying the Horror: The Master of the Cavalcade terrifies him.
  • One-Winged Angel: He can temporarily shift from an Oracular Head back to a full body, during which he's basically a Physical God.
  • Oracular Head: His default form. Ikazuki doesn’t think it suits him.
  • Physical God: When embodied, he's virtually unstoppable.
  • The Worf Effect: The first time he demonstrates his embodied form, he easily overwhelms Nimue and her students and nearly kills them before the Cavalcade intervene.
  • Worthy Opponent: He says that he views humanity as a whole as this for the Oni, as they have such a talent for combat.
  • Xanatos Gambit: Pulls a masterful one in Chapter 22: he puts Oni masks on Jackie and Viper and has them attack the other heroes, as a distraction that lets him steal the Hana Fuda cards. If he obtains them, the heroes can't use them to find or remove any of the other masks. Even if he fails, it will keep the heroes, especially Jade and Will, from realizing that he's not really bothered by losing the masks (as his long-term plan involves getting them all in one place). And if the Guardians and allies suffer any casualties from the fight, it's merely a bonus. No matter what happens, he benefits.

     Uta
The General of the Ninja Khan, whose mask is worn by Lothar.

  • The Corrupter: Slowly influences Lothar to be more aggressive, before directly possessing him.
  • Demonic Possession: Quickly possesses Lothar during his fight with the heroes.

     Ikki
The General of the Mantis Khan, whose mask is worn by Hak Foo.

  • Ascended Extra: His Mantis Khan barely showed up at the end of JCA's fourth season's Story Arc. They're given much more to do here, being used as Hak Foo's Mooks for a significant number of chapters.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Tarakudo believes that he’s the most brilliant of the Generals, but is too laid back to fully fulfill that potential.
  • Demonic Possession: Eventually possesses Hak Foo during the subway fight, not doing so earlier because he couldn't be bothered.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: When it becomes clear that Tracker is going to kill him if they keep fighting, he surrenders to the Chans and Guardians, knowing they'll just remove his mask and disembody him.
  • The Paralyzer: Can do this via pressure points.

     Takahiro
The General of the Mini Khan, whose mask is forced onto Jackie by Tarakudo.

  • The Corrupter: Rather than outright possessing Jackie, he works towards corrupting him instead by playing on his overprotective nature.
  • Graceful Loser: He merely sighs in disappointment as his mask is removed from Jackie’s face.
  • Master Poisoner: His speciality, judging by the information he provides Jackie with.

     Shiryu
The General of the Squid Khan, whose mask is forced onto Viper by Tarakudo.

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: He spends his time when his mask is on Viper whispering in her ear, telling her how to break people's bones in the most painful way, how to flay people without killing them... and complimenting her rack and ass.
  • The Corrupter: Rather than outright possessing Viper, he works towards corrupting her by playing on her old greeds.
  • Torture Technician: His role among the Oni appears to be this, judging by the things he whispers to Viper.

     Ikazuki
The General of the Samurai Khan and Tarakudo’s second-in-command, whose mask is worn by Aldarn.

  • Adaptational Badass: His Samurai Khan were, in canon, Fake Ultimate Mooks. Here, they're Elite Mooks which are physically stronger than the other tribes, resistant to magic, and self-aware enough to change their combat strategies.
  • Anti-Magic: His Samurai Khan are notably resistant to magic, even the Ben Shui Chi Degradation power.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Like Tarakudo, he earned his spot in the Oni hierarchy.
  • Demonic Possession: Possesses Aldarn shortly after he puts on the mask.
  • The Dragon: He's Tarakudo’s right hand.
  • Elite Mooks: His Samurai Khan are much more dangerous than the other tribes.
  • Fatal Flaw: His (admittedly well-founded) arrogance in his combat skills means he'll charge into any fight presented to him, regardless of the circumstances.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: He dislikes Tarakudo's use of his Oracular Head form, thinking that the look it gives him doesn't suit him, only to remember that Aldarn's body, which he's currently possessing, means that he isn't really one to talk at the moment.
  • Noble Demon: Literal statement aside, he has an honor code that he's very strict in following.
  • One-Man Army: Once singlehandedly defeated and killed a group of 100 of the most skilled soldiers Murasaki and her allies had, though it was taxing enough that only the arrival of another general allowed him to escape.
  • The Social Darwinist: Believes it is the right of the strong to do what they wish to the weak.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: After possessing his host Aldarn, he retreats rather than continuing the fight against the Guardians and rebels.
  • Villainous Legacy: According to Nimue, Didier's fall into Tracker was the result of Ikazuki's actions on Meridian.
