Team Phantom

    Danny Fenton/Phantom
  • Color-Coded Eyes: His eye color changes between blue, green, and black. He appears almost exclusively as human in Gotham. Bruce has noted that his eyes are unusually intense in color and people link it to his ice powers, thinking him a metahuman. They're green when he's a ghost. And his eyes turn black when he uses his new Spirit powers.
  • Dream Walker: One of Danny's pre-existing powers that he uses to enter Nora Fries' dreams and talk with her.
  • Foil: Both he and Bruce have been shown in contrasting as well as paralleling scenes. One is a superpowered, half-ghost, half-alive teenager vigilante from another universe; the other is an average, if very well trained adult human who's a father of several children and a local vigilante / credited hero who's been at the job for more than a decade. They're the first person of each group (Team Phantom and Gotham Vigilantes) respectively to make contact with the other one. They had a glimpse (or several in Danny's case) into the other's life. They're both suspicious of each other after being betrayed several times by people before; they're hypocrites who don't care about getting hurt while helping people, but can't bear to imagine their families and friends doing the same.
  • An Ice Person: He creates his own ice and snow that he can will into any shape. He can make it nearly indestructible, including resisting any kind of heat, and they have their use as physical attack. So far he's only used it as human, mostly to comfort children in distress.
  • Just a Kid: Faces this from the Gotham vigilantes. They don't mean to be condescending, as they only know that he's a superpowered teenager and has some training in fighting and weapons. But they still think he has much less experience than them and no idea what he and his friends have gotten into by helping in Gotham.
  • Mundane Utility: He uses his ice powers to create small animal sculptures to cheer up children caught up in rogue attacks.
  • My Skull Runneth Over: He has gained a psychic link to a city that is home to millions of people and he's aware of every one of them. He regularly gets a headache because he can't shut the link down, which floods his mind with information. The amount makes it difficult to make sense of it except when he focuses hard. It's even more overwhelming when he goes ghost, but the information is much clearer on the other hand.
  • Occult Blue Eyes: Danny's eyes are an unusually intense blue and glow when he draws from his ice powers. (Crossing over with Icy Blue Eyes.)
  • Psychic Link: His mind is connected to every person living in Gotham. It's strongest with the Batfam (the most with Bruce), as when he makes eye contact with them, they sense glimpses of each other's feelings.
  • Teleporters and Transporters: He gains this as a new ability as Gotham's City Spirit. He can teleport himself and passengers to every location in Gotham, as well as between both the physical and the ghostly side of the city.
  • You Kill It, You Bought It: Inherits the mantle of the Spirit of Gotham when the previous spirit tries to consume him for power in a desperate bid to help her people. Her weakness means that she can't survive even Danny's basic attempts at self-defense, so she begs him to help her people as she vanishes.
    Sam Manson
  • Carry a Big Stick: Dora has gifted her mace made of ectoplasm for protection.
  • Green Thumb: She gained a fledgling connection to the Green from her possession by Undergrowth, and under Ivy's tutelage she's learning to harness it as she purifies his remaining taint.
    Tucker Foley
  • Hollywood Hacking: He manages to break through the Riddler's encryptions with just his PDA, which is years out of date by the DC universe's standards. On the other hand, it also means that the encryptions have no protection against Tucker's outdated technology.
    Jazz Fenton
  • Big Sister Instinct: As powerful as Danny is, she still worries about him and tries to help and protect him when she can.
  • Malicious Misnaming: A variant. She continues to get the names of Danny's rogues wrong, like calling Skulker "Ghost X". Danny is sure that she does know the correct names, but simply calls them by the wrong ones to Troll him.

Gotham Vigilantes

    General Tropes
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Danny's strength as Gotham's City Spirit surpasses Gothi's even when she was at her prime. He empowers several members of the Batfamily with some of his (modified) abilities without his knowledge. And he can add more if necessary like giving Dick super-healing after he was shot at.
  • Mundane Utility: Dick, Cassie, and Duke help Alfred in chapter 6 with household chores. Dick flies to the rafters to dust them, Duke holds up furniture so Alfred can vacuum, and Cass takes short-cuts through the shadows to put the trash out. Barbara's telekinesis has her yanking a pencil to her after it dropped to the floor and rolled off.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Justified, as Danny empowers them to have more protection and skills. So their new superpowers appear in situations where it's respectively most useful. (Most of the times.)
    Duke Thomas alias The Signal
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Duke gains his super-strength in the middle of gym class. He accidentally destroys the pulley machine - which is at maximum weight - when he pulls too hard because he expected it to be difficult. Instead, he makes the weights crash into the top of the machine's frame, bust through, and scatter across the gym floor. One weight lands on the gym teacher's foot.
  • Light Is Good: Everything about Signal is about the positive force of light. He's Gotham's only official daytime hero, wears a suit of bright yellow with black, has light powers, and is an active force working to make his home a better place.

Gotham

    Nora Fries
  • Face Death with Dignity: Nora eventually accepted that she would die when she heard the news of her illness and wanted to enjoy the time she had left. When Danny offers her another solution she takes it, and she's also grateful that he's getting her opinion and consent in things.
  • Fisher Kingdom: Her dream reflects her state of mind. She's trapped wandering an icy tundra, unharmed by the temperatures and the wind, but also barely aware. The wind stops when Danny gets her attention. When she remembers what happened, the tundra transforms into a thriving garden. And when she remembers her illness, the Arctic chill returns temporarily as a cold wind.
  • Flower Motifs: The Fries' former home has been abandoned for years. The house's interior is well-preserved if dusty like a display, while the garden has withered. When Nora regains lucidity and remembers what happened, the frozen land she's been wandering in her dreams transforms into a brilliant, lush garden with many flowers in the house's backyard.
  • Human Popsicle: Victor froze her body and put her in Suspended Animation to slow down her degenerative illness.
  • Lost Lenore: Eventual subversion. Her slow but inevitable death and the obsession to cure her drove Victor to become Mr. Freeze and has been motivating him ever since, as it happened in his origin story. She's been frozen in a pod for the same amount of time. Danny intends to change her fate so that she can return to a life, even if permanently changed.

Spirit Gotham

     Spirit of Gotham / Gothi
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Even corrupted and weakened, the silk of her black dress ripped, and trying to eat Danny, she was never evil but desperate to survive for the sake of her city.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Spirit Robin implies that Jason's death impacted her so badly that a corruptive outside force could infect her. This is what leaves her in the weakened state she meets Danny in.
  • Genius Loci: She's the spiritual, sapient embodiment of Gotham as a whole.
  • The Last Straw: She was so weak that when Danny defended himself with a simple ecto-blast, she simply couldn't hold herself together anymore and started falling apart immediately.
  • Passing the Torch: Her last act is to pass her position and power as Gotham's City Spirit to Danny, so that her people - both alive and dead - have a protector.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: Or it used to be. Gothi wore a wine-red, bottom length gown, a black silk skirt above that lined with pearls, a veil, as well as a pearl armband and necklace. Her last piece of jewelry which is also the only thing that remains of her is a golden brooch in the shape of the Batsymbol.
  • Worf Had the Flu: While it seems like Danny is more powerful than she was even at her prime, given that he can empower the Bats without even consciously realizing it while she couldn't, it's clear that she was barely holding on when she went after Danny in desperation. Besides the fact that she couldn't withstand even a basic ecto-blast, she was so weak that Danny couldn't distinguish her from the Ghost Zone's background energy.
     Spirit Batman
  • Allegorical Character: A manifestation of the collective mythos surrounding the mantle of Batman, protecting the spiritual Gotham like his living counterpart does the real version.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He's a spirit created from Gotham's belief and (exaggerated) stories around Batman. His appearance is even more uncanny, being a Living Shadow with no discernible features or details except for the cowl's ears and white glowing eyes. He's protecting the spiritual Gotham along with Robin whom he dotes on.
  • Light/Darkness Juxtaposition: His body seems to be made of only shadows; Robin has a steady if shifting luminescence.
  • Stealth Expert: He snuck up behind Sam and Tucker who are used to sensing ghosts.
     Spirit Robin
  • Allegorical Character: A manifestation of the collective mythos surrounding the mantle of Robin. Like the people he's based on, he's protecting Spirit Gotham. Additionally he represents the metaphysical concept of hope.
  • Composite Character: Unlike Spirit Batman, Spirit Robin is an amalgamation because different persons held the position of Robin over the years and people noticed the changes. His form is mostly based on Dick and Jason's whose runs formed the core of his mythos.
  • Light 'em Up: His body glows, dimming and brightening up in relation to his mood. He glows like a sun when in battle.
  • Light Is Good: A powerful and cheery spirit with an inherent light who protects Spirit Gotham with his partner Batman and other spirits.
     Spirit Batwoman
  • Allegorical Character: A manifestation of the collective mythos surrounding the mantle of Batwoman.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Like the spiritual Batman, she's a Living Shadow (with the exception of her hair), but still good.

Danny Phantom Universe

     Valerie Gray/Red Huntress
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: She has come to suspect that Danny is Phantom after what happened with Dani, and though she's still mildly in denial she hasn't told anyone what she suspects either.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Her first appearance in the story has her talk to Danny about Gotham and his worries about the Batfamily. While not an action-filled scene, her encouraging Danny to trust the Batfamily gets him to start unconsciously empowering the Batfamily.
     GIW
  • Light Is Not Good: Every agent wears white that they're expected to keep clean at all times. Agent Alpha's office, white on white and with a shining chrome table, is within a building with metal walls that reflect the harsh fluorescent light. It echoes with the screams of their victims. They think all ghosts are monsters and need to be exterminated.
  • Villain in a White Suit: All agents of the GIW wear white and they're undoubtedly a villain in the story intent on destroying ghosts, especially Phantom.
