"A squad of villains who don't mind dying... The 'Suicide Squad', huh?"note

Suicide Squad ISEKAI is a 2024 superhero isekai anime based upon the titular team of anti-heroes from DC Comics. It is animated by WIT Studio, directed by Eri Osada (Jujutsu Kaisen), and written by Tappei Nagatsuki (Re:Zero, Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song) and Eiji Umehara (Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song). hololive's Calliope Mori performs the ending theme, "Go-Getters".

The series follows Task Force X, comprised of Clayface, Deadshot, Peacemaker, King Shark, and - of course - Harley Quinn, as they are sent by Amanda Waller into a strange and fantastical other world full of magic and monsters. Now the team only has 72 hours to complete their missions or lose their heads.

The series stars Anna Nagase as Harleen Quinzel / Harley Quinn, Reigo Yamaguchi as Floyd Lawton / Deadshot, Takehito Koyasu as Christopher Smith / Peacemaker, Jun Fukuyama as Clayfacenote , Subaru Kimura as Nanaue / King Shark, Yuichiro Umehara as the Joker, Taku Yashiro as Rick Flag, Chika Anzai as Tatsu Yamashiro / Katana and Kujira as Amanda Waller; with Reina Ueda, Mamiko Noto and Jun Fukushima as original characters Fione, Aldora and Cecil respectively.

The series is set to premiere July 2024.

Trailer: Trailer, Trailer 2

Suicide Squad Isekai provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Attractiveness:
    • As seen in the trailer, while Joker's look takes much inspiration from Jared Leto's portrayal, he looks slicker and more boyishly handsome than he otherwise does in mainline DC canon or the 2016 Suicide Squad film, giving him the air of a cute bad boy-type. Notably, his Slasher Smile is now drawn/tattooed over a more normal looking mouth.
    • While the trailer shows that Clayface is still a massive mass of monstrous muck, he also has a well dressed and suave looking human form that he takes on and even maintains in battle if he can.
  • Adaptation Distillation: As shown in the trailer, the titular team's roster (with the exception of Clayface) consists of characters from both of the live action movies from the DC Extended Universe, with notable influence on their designs, such as Harley's skimpy outfit and dyed pigtails, Deadshot's ethnicity, and the depiction of Peacemaker.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: In the trailer, Peacemaker is modeled on John Cena's portrayal of the character. The resemblance is especially noticeable since none of the other members are as directly based on their movie counterparts.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: It's the Suicide Squad in a Fantasy world you'd expect from a typical Isekai anime.
  • Instrumental Theme Tune: The opening theme introduced in the trailer, "Another World" composed and performed by Tomoyasu Hotei, features a frantic jazzy and rock instrumental piece.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The looks of several characters such as Joker and Peacemaker seem to be openly based off the live-action Suicide Squad films, as seen in the trailer.
    • Clayface being a member of the Suicide Squad in this continuity (as shown in the trailer) seems to be more of a nod to his major role in Harley's animated series, which also had him as part of a team with her and King Shark.
  • Race Lift: Keeping in line with depictions of the character since the dawn of the 2010s, Deadshot is African American, as the trailer confirms.
  • Sexy Jester: Harley is presented this way in the trailer, with the trailer having a moment playing up her cutesy side.
  • Team Member in the Adaptation: Clayface has never been depicted as a member of any incarnation of the Suicide Squad before this series, whereas he’s shown to be working with the usual subjects in the trailer.
