Grammar and format check request for a work page I'm about to launch:

Video Game / Soul Knight

Magic stones are sacred relics maintaining the balance of the world. One day, a bunch of bad guys stole the magic stones and the world descended into chaos. Can you take back the magic stones?

Soul Knight is a Roguelike Run-and-Gun shooter developed by ChillyRoom. It is released for the iOS platform.

When you start your journey and begin to crawl through the randomly generated dungeon, you start with a pistol that badly deals any damage. As you progress in the game, you can randomly find various types of weapons to utilize, from generic firearms to over-the-top ridiculous weapons.

Being a rougelike shooter, whenever you end the game and start anew, you lose all of your dungeon progress and weapons you found in the stage, except the character upgrades and furniture boosts you have purchased at the lobby.

The goal is to reach the bottom of the dungeon and recover the magic stone.

This work provides examples of:

  • Bullet Hell: The enemies in the game, if not carrying melee weapons, would try to cover the whole screen with bullets. Fortunately, you can slice the bullets with melee weapons found in the game.
  • Death Is a Slap on the Wrist: Whenever you die on the field, you can revive yourself with gems, an in-game currency earned by completing all levels, ending the game by dying, watching daily commercials, daily login reward, or simply buying them with real moneys.
  • Dem Bones: Skeletons appear as enemies at the Skeleton Kingdom. And if you manage to defeat the Skeleton King without taking a hit, you would have a chance to get the Staff of Skeleton, which allows you to summon an army of skeletons against mobs and bosses all alike.
  • Frickin' Laser Beams: You can find various types of laser guns, some fires technicolor bullets, others fire a single beam, or several beams at once. Laser Fish, on the other hand, fires laser from its mouth endlessly.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: The Crystal Crab Katana is a boss weapon obtained by defeating Giant Crystal Crab. It summons ice pillars whenever you score a critical hit.
  • Lethal Joke Item: You can occasionally come across weapons that don't even look like weapons. You can swing a chunk of meat, fire bubbles or even shoot laser with a fish.
  • Mana Meter: The energy bar serves as a Mana meter for various projectile-firing weapons, be it a staff, a bow, or a gun.
  • Minimalist Run: The Bad Pistol Run, which involves clearing the entire run with only the Bad Pistol.
  • More Dakka: The Bomber, a boss weapon acquired by defeating [C6H8O6], can cover the whole screen with missiles after winding up for a few seconds.
  • One-Hit Kill: The One Punch is a rare fist weapon that can kill anything in one hit, including boss. It's also very true to its name, you can only punch once. Afterward, it becomes a regular glove and can no longer kill anything in one hit.
  • Regenerating Health: The armor meter regenerates overtime. Health on the other hand doesn't regenerate automatically.
  • Parrying Bullets: Melee weapons can cut through bullets, allowing you to block them. There's also a randomized buff that allows you to deflect the bullets back to the sender.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: Shotguns fire multiple pellets at once, allowing one to clear multiple enemies or land all of them onto a boss. There's also a randomized buff that increases the amount of pellets fired. There's also the Shotgun Laser, which fires several laser beams at once.
  • Starter Equipment: The Bad Pistol, a pistol that deals mediocre damage and doesn't cost any energy, is given as your default weapon.

  • Jack of All Stats: He has a very balanced stat, fitting for both mid-distance gunfight and aggressive melee combat.
  • Lightning Bruiser: When using the Rapier in conjunction with the Dual Wield skill, he can lunge further than anyone else and slice through enemies and bullets fruitlessly while shrugging off the hits.

Suggested for #4228:

You should move the second paragraph to the top. Just get to the point. Also, try avoiding chained potholes whenever you can. Here's my suggestion for the description. I moved stuff around and noticed that an issue here is word choice (e.g. "badly" instead of "hardly") and repetition (e.g. "When you start" and then "you start with a pistol"). Also, that third paragraph doesn't need to be one sentence.

Soul Knight is a Run-and-Gun shooter that's also a Roguelike. It was developed by ChillyRoom for the iOS platform.

In the world this story inhabits, there are magic stones that maintain the balance of the world. One day, however, a bunch of bad guys steal these stones and the world consequently starts to fall into chaos. You goal is to get these stones back and save the world. In order to get each magic stone, you will need to reach teh bottom of the dungeon.

The journey begins through a randomly generated dungeon, and you start out with a pistol that hardly deals any damage. As you progress in the game, you will find various types of weapons, from generic firearms to over-the-top weapons. Being a Roguelike shooter, whenever you end the game and start over, you lose all your dungeon progress and weapons. Thankfully, though, you do keep the character upgrades and furniture boosts that are from the lobby.

Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they pretty

[up][up][up] @Mhazard

Whenever I change a verb from past tense to present tense, it's as per How to Write an Example - Write in Historical Present Tense.

  • It is released for the iOS platform. -> It was released for the iOS platform.
  • a pistol that badly deals any damage. > a pistol that barely deals any damage.
  • would try to cover the whole screen with bullets. -> will try to cover the whole screen with bullets.
  • simply buying them with real moneys. -> simply buying them with real money.
  • Skeletons appear as enemies at the Skeleton Kingdom. ->
    • Skeletons appear as enemies in the Skeleton Kingdom.
  • And if you manage..you would have a chance -> If you manage...you will have a chance
  • against mobs and bosses all alike. -> against mobs and bosses all alike.
  • various types of laser guns, some fires -> various types of laser guns. Some fire

That's a comma splice.

  • fires laser from its mouth endlessly. -> fires a laser beam from its mouth endlessly.
  • even shoot laser with a fish. -> even shoot a laser beam from a fish.
  • including boss. -> including bosses.
  • The armor meter regenerates overtime. -> The armor meter regenerates over time.
  • Health on the other hand doesn't -> Health, on the other hand, doesn't
  • deflect the bullets back to the sender. -> deflect the bullets back at the sender.
  • or land all of them onto a boss. -> or direct them all of them at a boss.

There's also a randomized buff that increases the amount of pellets fired. There's also the Shotgun Laser, which fires several laser beams at once.

Try to avoid repetitive wording. It isn't strictly speaking improper English, but it doesn't look good.

There's also a randomized buff that increases the amount of pellets fired as well as the Shotgun Laser, which fires several laser beams at once.

  • Turret Master...the turret would -> The Turret Master...the turret will
  • The Knight has a balanced stat and moderately high health . ->
    • The Knight has balanced stats and moderately high health.
  • He has a very balanced stat -> He has very balanced stats
  • slice through enemies and bullets fruitlessly -> slice through enemies and bullets effortlessly

"Fruitlessly" means "without success".

  • he gains an additional skills that prevents him -> he gains an additional skill that prevents him
  • whenever his armor break. -> whenever his armor breaks.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: A gigantic crystal crab. - Zero-Context Example - How is it a threat?

As written, that's a Zero-Context Example. It needs some information about what it means, who says it, the circumstances in which it's said, etc.

Check out how the examples on the Arc Words page are written.

And yes, I know that some of the examples on that page just give the quote and nothing else. They're Zero Context Examples too.

[up] That's not Arc Words. Arc Words are a phrase that contains specific narrative significance, is repeated throughout a work, and usually feeds into some kind of reveal. Some valid examples:

  • In the first revival season of Doctor Who, the phrase "Bad Wolf" crops up constantly: in dialogue and text. It isn't until late in the season that The Doctor realizes that the words are significant, but he jumps to the wrong conclusion that it's the fault of his enemies. It turns out to be The Doctor's companion, Rose, seeding the words throughout time to give herself the clues she needs to absorb the Time Matrix from the TARDIS.
  • Otherland: "An angel touched me" seems at first like a Madness Mantra recited by the Other, sung by it in its creepy voice and recited subliminally by characters in the virtual realities. It isn't until Martine relays her story of teaching the fairy tale and song that the phrase is derived from to a "lost boy in the darkness" that the characters realize that the Other is that self-same "lost boy", and has adopted the story as its own.

Also, you used "their" when you should use "they're".

  • Their: Possessive of "they".
  • There: Adverb indicating location.
  • They're: Contraction of "they are".

Write that down somewhere, or stamp it in your brain.

Kagome from Inuyasha

  • Green-Eyed Monster: Kagome falls in love with Inuyasha, though its through her own Green-Eyed Epiphany towards his relationship with Kikyo. It's an incredibly complex love triangle which causes no shortage of angst for Kagome and Inuyasha, till Kikyo's final death.

I allocate my time as I see fit. Sometimes it's to help out in this topic.

Grammatically, your first use of "its" should be the contraction, "it's". I'd also change "till" to "until" in the final paragraph, but that's a colloquialism so it's not a grammatical problem.

From an example perspective, it says only that the trope Green-Eyed Epiphany is used, but says nothing about how Kagome's jealousy manifests or what actions it causes her to take. I see an example of Green-Eyed Epiphany, which I hope is on the article already, but you haven't actually written an example of Green-Eyed Monster, just talked around it a bunch.

Calling it a prototype of sorts, I also mean to include how causes Kagome to get into a really sour mood with Inuyasha at time. Particularly after witnessing her kiss him, despite not yet being on a romantic relationship with him, she somewhat storms off.

You can't "somewhat" storm off. Either you storm off or you don't.

Asking for help with this entry on Funny.Tangled The Series. It was originally written by me and then changed by another troper. I think in the re-written form the example actually has become murky, so feedback on how to rewrite it so that it's clear would be welcome. Any feedback on my original entry also very welcome, of course.

Background: The Maximus character is a horse that is in love with another horse. Maximus has a nightmare/Imagine Spot where he sees this other horse he's in love with, marrying another horse character, called Axel. The Funny part is that these horses were never before anthropomorphized in the show, but in this scene suddenly they are having a textbook human wedding.

N.B. The boldface in the below two entries wasn't there originally, but was added by me for the sake of this thread, to mark the parts that were changed. Otherwise they're unaltered.

How I wrote it originally:

  • Maximus' Imagine Spot of Axel marrying the other horse he himself has a crush on: this is a real wedding just like humans have, including The Wedding March being played, and a priest to perform the ceremony.

Someone changed that to:

  • Maximus' Imagine Spot of Axel marrying the horse he has a crush on, as in, a human wedding, including The Wedding March being played, and a priest to perform the ceremony.

My issues with how it was re-written:

  1. The "himself" was removed, so now it's not clear anymore which horse (Maximus or Axel) the "he" refers to. With the "himself", it was clear the "he" in that sentence part refers to Maximus, not Axel, but now it's ambiguous.
  2. The "as in" in the 2nd post refers to "Imagine Spot", but that's unclear—it can easily be taken to refer to the also preceding "horse" or "marrying", which would be wrong. To be fair, this also applies to my original "this is", so would it be better to substitute this with "the horses are having a..."?

I agree with your first conclusion. The text needs the word "himself" to make it clear whom the "he" refers to.

": this is a real wedding just like humans have," vs. ", as in, a human wedding"

I would change this to just "is a human-style wedding,". It's clearer and shorter.

Also:

  • including The Wedding March being played, and a priest to perform the ceremony.

The comma is unnecessary.

  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Savitar shares parallels with Ra's ai Ghul. Comes into conflict with the hero as a result of prior mistakes before the third season. Both are Ancient Evils with cults dedicated to worshiping them.
