So, what is your most loved character archetypes? I'm a fan of Large Ham and Lady of War myself.

Do you mean an actual Archetypal Character, or just character trope?

[up]To be fair, the Archetypal Character list does not cover it all. Use your discretion and judgment.

The most lovable archetype is probably The Woobie, but I wouldn't say it's an archetype I personally love.

If this is just a "what's your favorite archetype" thread, I don't expect it to really be that useful. I guess I like writing Action Survivors, though.

I like weirdos and eccentric (but not necessarily absentminded) intellectuals. I like good guys who are not squeaky clean, as well as seemingly abrasive and/or cold characters who are still good people.

Oh, I love stoics.

[up] I concur with much of this.

Also, I seem to like writing foul-mouthed hedonists and criminals. The dialogue opportunities are an exercise in wonderful insanity.

I like the timid teen as a protagonist, although I'm not sure what other types I like.

I tend to combine Boisterous Bruiser, Hot-Blooded, and Large Ham with the Anti-Hero. As a result a good number of my characters are incredibly high-strung, charismatic, and Ax-Crazy.

I also like taking shy, timid, and depressed characters and slowly turning them apathetic and cynical, to the point where the things they used to be afraid of lose power over them, leaving them unfettered but still damaged.

Not every thread needs to be "useful." Sometimes it's just fun to pick other's brains.

Me, I like snarkers (boy, do I love them), as well as Genki Girls and Keets. There's something about really giddy characters which is fun to write, and if done properly, they're great for making the audience smile and for invoking feelings of adorkableness.

I like to write about the "my country, right or wrong" types, and the mental gymnastics it takes to sustain such a mindset.

And yes that is totally projection. tongue

I tend to enjoy reading and writing Consummate Professional-type characters, and the more general archetype of "character who sets their emotions aside to do the job".

Tall, Dark, and Snarky. I always fall for them. Without fail. Even when they are a ridiculously obvious Mr. Fanservice, I STILL fall for them.

Other than that, I like determinators, especially those who are scared of everything but still press on. It's why Oeono Zero was my favourite character in Mortal Engines.

I tend to enjoy Action Moms, tricksters, clever heroes, and the Only Sane Man. I also have no objections to anyone who can be hammy as an overweight pig and/or can pull off a Badass Boast.

But I think my favorite has to be The Cape. In my eyes, they're heroism and virtue personified, and I'd like nothing more than to be able to write my own someday.

Types I have soft spots for:-
The Medusa - strong women rock! (Sorry, couldn't help myself...)
The Everyman types - yup, loads of people hate them. I don't.
The Trickster types - most if not all of them. I just like Brain over Brawn. Special mention to the Fair Folk. Even when they're being vile, I can't help but find them cool.
All of God's little Creepy Children (and the Devil's, too) - a child doesn't have to be all twee, sweetness, light and cute. And I like that.
Mama Bears, Papa Wolves, Big Siblings and Promotional Parents are types I have a lot of time for, too. Having said that, I don't mind those that find it sucks lemons. A dose or two of realism is fine by me.
And, a good Evil Overlord is always appreciated, even if they're not especially loveable by normal definitions of the word. grin

I have a soft spot for Manipulative Bastards, Tricksters, and Guile Heroes. The former always creeps its way into my work and the works I read.

However, in terms of loveableness I say Yanderes and some Broken Birds.

Anti-villains! Especially anti-villains who are just doing the sensible if genre-blind thing (bonus points if they wise up later), or anti-villains who are smart and genre-savvy enough to play the ROLE of flamboyant villain but in a way that secretly benefits everyone.

Also ridiculously positive Large Hams/Hot-Blooded characters who never let anything get them down, ever, and completely unironic heroes who face genuine moral and practical problems but never compromise on their values. Extra value if any of the above are female, partly for feminist reasons but mostly for the exact opposite of that.

Of course, while I greatly appreciate the above on both intellectual and emotional levels, stick me in front of almost any adorkable/shy/otherwise stifled couple and I will make real-life anime faces in glee.
