Most likely not the average tale of Good vs. Evil...
800 years ago the world fell prey to a worldwide catastrophe: hordes of demons appeared seemly out of nowhere, slaughtering mankind into near extinction; with no hope of fending off the demons through their available technology, humans simply prayed for god, any god, to save them. And so a miracle happened: many deities answered their prayers.

Deities in the form of ordinary humans descended on the planet, mounting a worldwide advance against demonkind, battling against titanic demons with their superior intellect, durability and speed. After many battles the deities managed to eradicate the demons but not without much sacrifice on their part, greatly reducing the number of deities.

In the present, a boisterous boy called Hayato, a relatively young deity, is being trained by Rin, a veteran deity who has been alive since the great war 800 years ago; demonkind is believed to been wiped out but Rin knows better, feeling they will rise again soon. Rin trains Hayato, Ysley and Paula to strengthen themselves, hoping they get on her level to be ready for the potential new demonkind uprising.

The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace (Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi) was originally a webcomic authored by Amahara (Teisou Gyakuten Sekai, Interspecies Reviewers) in 2008, developed at a very relaxed pace, in his own terms; in 2018, Amahara partnered with Cool-Kyou Shinsha to remake the series as a professionally published Seinen manga within Young Animal magazine by Hakusensha. In October 2021 the remake was licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment, and the first volume released in April 2022.

In July 2021 the series received an animated adaptation, consisting of 11 episodes by studio MAPPA

The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace provides the examples of:

  • Aerith and Bob: The names of characters in the series fall all over the place in the spectrum of "weird" to more "normal". For example, one of the Idaten is Paula while a demon is Barcode.
  • Ambiguously Human: The demons are aware Oobami isn't a "demon lord", but they're quite sure he's not a human either since he's been alive and working with them for much longer than a normal human lifespan would have allowed. It's later revealed he's an Idaten who was created by the desperate wish of survival from demons.
  • All-Loving Heroine: Gill is an extremely dedicated nun who believes in the absolute best in everyone. Even after suffering a great deal at the hands of the Zoble empire, including being gang-raper by its soldiers, she still attempts to "help" Emperor Takeshita when she sees he's mortally injured, even though she knows he's a demon.
  • Amnesiac God: Oobami is an Idaten created from the will to survive of the demons trapped in the seal, combined with the essence of the Idaten who created it. That in combination of him manifesting inside the seal means that his memory is quite hazy, and he's not even truly aware he's Idaten or is trapped in the seal, he's simply aware he can use his Electronic Telepathy to interact with the outside world.
  • Amusing Injuries: The Idaten deities suffer seemingly absurd mortal injuries with copious amounts of blood, but they just shrug it off. thanks to their Healing Factor.
  • Anti-Hero: The Idaten by default, the only trait that makes them heroes is the fact they exist to defend humanity against demons, however, this is the end of their concern for humans, the Idaten by nature only care about ensuring mankind isn't rendered extinct by demon forces, they don't really bother about inner conflicts between humans.
  • Audience Surrogate: Paula is only 20 years old, making her quite young for an Idaten, meaning the others (mostly Ysley) often have to explain how the setting works to her, and thus the audience.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis:
    • Ysley specialty in a fight is analyzing his opponents so he can up with a viable strategy to beaten, even if he's outmatched in raw power.
    • Miku's unique demon whose powers are her keen observational skills and planning potential. Her analytical mind allows her to easily read people and predict future events.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Paula is only 20 years old, which is very young for an Idaten, and still isn't used to the way the world works, with the others treating her like a kid and often having to explain things to her.
  • Badass Adorable: Paula is The Cutie and while she's one of the weaker Idaten, she's still a Physical God and can be a force to be reckoned with, even while still looking like a sweet young girl.
  • Badass Bookworm: Ysley may be a bookworm who dislikes training, but he's still an Idaten and while he isn't one the same level as Rin or Hayato is far stronger than any normal human being, and he knows how to fight smarter than his fellow Idaten.
  • Bathing Beauty: While on the run after the Zoble Empire fell, Merku keeps pestering Miku to find them a house to stay where she can take a luxurious shower, as she can't handle going without one for a couple of days.
  • Benevolent Boss: "Demon Lord" Oobami is fairly nice to his demon servants, being polite and considerate to them and is clearly honest in his objective of helping them survive and flourish. He does not act that way towards his human minions, and considers them all expendable pawns. This is because he's also a Idaten, but one created from the thoughts of the demons who were sealed away.
  • Berserk Button: Calling a Rin an "old hag" is an easy way to get her to pummel you to a pulp. Hayato still keeps doing it.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: The three young Idaten are a Power Trio composed of Paula (Beauty) with her girlish looks and persona, Ysley (Brains) with his analytical and intellectual mind, and Hayato with his abrasive and violent demeanor.
  • Big Bad: "Demon Lord" Oobami is the primary antagonist of the series, as the one responsible for the creation of the Zoble Empire as a front for the new demon invasion of the planet and as a protector of demonking, since he's an Idaten created from their desperation to survive.
  • Black Comedy Rape: The first episode ends with soldiers from the Zoble empire gang-raping Gil in her chapel, but while it portrays the soldiers as monstrous for their actions, the scene is played as over-the-top absurd with its psychedelic visuals, comical silhouettes, and the surreal tacky music.
  • Blood from the Mouth: Paula won't stop bleeding from the mouth after Rin punches her in the stomach in her first "sparring" match.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Ysley reveals the true nature of his kind as being absurdly strict with their reason for existing: Defend Humanity Against Demonkind, nothing beyond that really matters, showing the Idaten are completely indifferent to all the evils within humanity, people can hurt each other as long as they do so out of their own accord, without any risk of extinction. The first volume/episode shows this as a nun is gang-raped and the Idaten do absolutely nothing about it.
  • Bodyguard Crush: After being subjected to Brainwashing for the Greater Good, Piscalet serves as Ysley's bodyguard and aid, and she quickly develops romantic feelings for him. Him being a Idaten, it goes completely unnoticed and unreciprocated.
  • Brainwashing for the Greater Good: Ysley uses his skills as a scientist to operate on Piscalat, Neput and Cory's brains, brainwashing the three demons into being loyal to the Idaten and turning against their own kind. Oobami undue's Piscalat and Cory's brainwashing later, and both are very pissed at Ysley.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Ysley is The Smart Guy and would much rather spend his time learning things rather than training to get stronger, which makes him by far the weakest of the Idaten.
  • Bullet Catch: When a priest from Sarabael tries shooting Paula, she simply casually grabs the bullet with her fingers.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard:
    • The Zoble soldiers assigned to search for the Idaten become smitten with Paula because of her "huge rack".
    • Piscalat's huge chest is considered the main part of her sex appeal among even her own men, including even Ysley.
  • Celibate Hero: The Idaten have no interest in romantic or sexual pursuits due to their godly nature.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Played With. Ferlandia doesn't care if Kuraishi flirts with human women, but she's very jealous and possessive about the idea of him with another female demon, even if the idea is just of him impregnating more demons to perpetuate the race.
  • Combat Tentacles: Nickel can transform his arms into multiple tentacles in order to attack his opponents.
  • Commissar Cap: The demon officers of the Zogle empire all wear commissar caps as part of their uniforms, to complement its fascist imagery.
  • Crazy in the Head, Crazy in the Bed: Miku is a insane, psychotic pervert who unnervers even her fellow demons, but she's still considered to be extremely attractive and is quite a demon in the sack, with even Merku admitting how much she enjoys her "attentions".
  • Creepy High-Pitched Voice: Nickel has a creepy, childlike voice that seems to weird out even his demon colleagues.
  • The Cutie: Paula is a sweet young girl, with cute mannerisms and an lovable personality.
  • Defeat by Modesty: Ysley correctly deduces the new humanoid demons are particularly vulnerable to sexual humiliation, due to their prideful nature combined with them not being used to their enhanced human libidos. He manages to defeat Piscalat by invoking this on her, first causing Clothing Damage to expose her breasts, which causes an out-of-character Naked Freak-Out and them using a aphrodisiac gas to humiliate her by giving her a Forced Orgasm so strong it leaves her paralyzed.
  • Deranged Animation: The series often changes into a psychedelic color scheme for its most bizarre and surreal moments.
  • Divine Conflict: The main conflict revolves around the Idaten deities' eternal battle against the demons that want to wipe out humanity.
  • Electronic Telepathy: Prontea is able to use his Idaten powers to control some machines with his mind. The demon-created Idaten Oobami has the same power, and since he's a Sealed Evil in a Can, controlling machinery via Remote Body is the only way he can interfere in the world.
  • The Empire: The Zoble empire is a large fascist empire that wants to Take Over the World, and is secretly ruled by demons wearing a Human Disguise.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even some of Miku's demon colleagues get disturbed by her preference for "shotas", with Takeshita beating her up for flirting with a Child Soldier in front of him.
  • Evil Genius: Miku and Barcode are noted to be far smarter than all the other demons, with Miku having a knack for analyzing things and planning ahead while Barcode has absurd management abilities.
  • Exposed to the Elements: Mad Scientist Oobami is introduced wearing only a Labcoat of Science and Medicine, even in the deadly cold at the edges of the planet, which even his men are confused by. This is later explained by the fact that the body is actually just a remote-controlled robot.
  • Extra Eyes: A common feature among demons. Even some of the hybrids have eyes in odd places, such as Piscalat having an eyeball inside her cheek, which she confesses is entirely useless.
  • Extreme Libido: Miku is a nymphomaniac whose mind is constantly horny and thinking about sex or erotism, which she deals with by sleeping around or constantly masturbating. Her constant horniness is also the only reason she's not the smartest character in the show, as she's shown to be even smatter in "post-nut clarity" now she's no longer distracted by her horniness, often leading to her having an "Eureka!" Moment.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Neput, one of the strongest demons in the Zoble army, wears an eyepatch over one of his eyes. He actually still has the other eye, and just wears it for the "marine" aesthetics it gives him. A flashback shows he wore it ever since he was a kid.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Nickel has his eyes always closed in his usual laid-back persona, and it's made pretty clear he can still see just fine. He only starts opening his eyes during his fights with the Idaten, to make him look creepier and serious.
  • Eye Scream: Takeshita momentarily blinds Hayato by taking out both of his eyes with his fingers, by burying them inside his skull.
  • Fake King:
    • Takeshita the current emperor of the Zoble Empire, but not only does he let the prime minister and the generals do most of the work, he is actually a demon pretending to be a human and actually serves the "demon lord" Oobami. Oobami was the previous emperor of Zoble, but decided to step down from the role as he had better things to do.
    • Oobami himself is one of the demons, he calls himself their "demon lord" but he isn't even a demon, just a human scientist who is manipulating them.
  • Fake Memories: Oobami gave the demons fake memories in order to make them loyal to him as their "demon lord".
  • Fan Disservice: Miku is an incredibly attractive demon in the form of a voluptuous human that is under constant Male Gaze, but she's also a disturbing pervert and Serial Rapist who is in charge of turning human women into Breeding Slaves and is a pedophile who has a preference for seducing "shotas".
  • Feet-First Introduction: The first time we see General Piscalat, we see her heeled boots stomping while she walks on top of a tank.
  • Fights Like a Normal: Takeshita is a demon, but he can't shapeshift and has no power other than enhanced strength, speed, and durability.
  • Flower Mouth: Cory can shapeshift his head into a huge plant-like mouth which he uses to bite and swallow people.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Nice Girl Paula is naturally beloved by type of animal, being frequently surrounded by them whenever she's relaxing.
  • Forced Orgasm: Piscalat is subjected to this twice in order to neutralize her, both times due to her being exposed to an aphrodisiac cocktail meant to cause great pleasure. The first time is during her fight with Ysley, with him using grenades containing said aphrodisiac, and the second is when she was showering and was ambushed by Oobami, who flooded her stall with the aphrodisiac.
  • Glacier Waif: Paula looks like a fragile little girl, but has the same Super-Toughness as the other Idaten deities.
  • The Gods Must Be Lazy: A big plot point. The Idaten are gods born out of humanity's collective thoughts when they're in need of salvation, but the Idaten won't act against other humans no matter what, meaning the only thing the Idaten care about is preventing humanity's extinction from an external threat such as demons. They feel no need to protect humanity from each other, or make their lot in life any better. The demons exploit this by infiltrating human society, and thus avoiding having to deal with the much stronger Idaten.
  • Gods Need Prayer Badly: Played With. The Idaten deities are manifested into life by the collective consciousness of the living beings who inhabit the planet whenever they feel they need a god to save them. But they don't need constant prayer in order to preserve their powers once born. They do need humans to still exist so other Idaten can be born. It also encourages the Idaten to never want to help humans achieve Utopia, since they need humans to keep suffering, and thus desire a god to save them, so that more Idaten can be born.
  • Great Offscreen War: We only see small tidbits of the great war between the Idaten and the demons that occurred 800 years ago.
  • Groin Attack: Cory is defeated by Paula when she gives a kick to his groin. Having little idea about how male anatomy works, she actually did this on accident and it's actually confused about why it was so effective.
  • Growing Wings: Paula grows wings on her body to convince the Sarabael priest of her godly nature. Funny enough, said wings are also completely useless and don't allow her to actually fly.
  • Hand-or-Object Underwear: Piscalat uses her hands and her Prehensile Hair to cover her breasts after Yslet destroys her top during their fight. Ysley mocks her for restraining her movements like that in a combat situation for something as simple as modesty.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Brandy manages to cut Rin in half using Rin's own sword in a surprise attack. Rin survives it, kills Brandy via a Neck Snap while being just a torse, and is able to heal into a full body in a couple of days.
  • Healing Factor: All the Idaten deities can heal from their wounds at an incredibly fast pace.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: After the Idaten defeated the demons in the great war 800 years ago, most of the remaining survivors sacrificed themselves in order to seal the demons away, leaving Rin as the Sole Survivor of the conflict and the one supposed to prepare a new generation to fight the demons if they come back.
  • High-Class Fan: Empress Brandy of the Zoble empire is always carrying a fan in her right-hand, as part of her high-class noblewoman image.
  • Home Nudist: Miku is shown hanging around naked (with Godiva Hair or Scenery Censor) in the house where she made her hideout after she went into hiding, showing how much more debauched she's gotten.
  • Honesty Is the Best Policy: Ysley's big plan to get back into Rin's good graces after skipping her Training from Hell for years is to... just apologize and ask to take him back again. It's remarkably effective.
  • Hot-Blooded: Hayato is a boisterous and hot-blooded Idaten with a passionate personality and who tends to jump headfirst into any situation.
  • Hotter and Sexier: While Amahara is no stranger to creating sex fueled works, his touch is never too graphic in Idaten’s original webcomic; the official manga version drawn by COOL on the other hand is more prone to showing some gratuitous naked breasts and a little more detailed portrayal of sex; the anime is closer to Amahara’s webcomic.
  • Idiot Hero:
    • Hayato is too hot-blooded and fight-focused to think about anything but getting stronger, which can lead to him being easily tricked or defeated by weaker opponents.
    • Rin is incredibly powerful, but is comically ignorant about anything else other than fighting demons and the basics of being an Idaten. Her opponents often outmaneuver her, but she's just so strong that it just never ends up mattering.
  • Ignore the Fanservice: The Idaten have no interest in sex since they are beings born out of collective thoughts of divine retribution against demonkind, with them being born out of thin air; demons who have merged with humans being very sex driven in order to fill their ranks and satisfy their base desires have no means of using seduction as a weapon against the Idaten.
  • Immune to Bullets: The conventional weapons developed by humans are worthless against the demons and the Idaten deities. One Zoble army officer attempts to shoot Hayato in the head multiple times, but the bullets just bounce away.
  • Iron Butt Monkey: Hayato constantly suffers Amusing Injuries, mostly at the hands of Rin. Being an Idaten with Healing Factor, he can take it.
  • Invincible Hero: Rin is much stronger than any of the current demons in the Zoble Empire, killing one of their strongest members without too much trouble. All the demons are quick to admit they have absolutely no chance of fighting her.
  • Lack of Empathy: The Idaten's only goal is to stop humanity from extinction, but they don't really care about humans on an individual level, and have complete apathy to even the most egregious form of human suffering.
  • Laughing Mad: Cody and Neput are both laughing maniacally after they both endure brainwashing at the hands of Ysley, to illustrate how they'll be mentally unstable for a while after such a sudden change in their brains.
  • Lecherous Licking: Miku is a massive pervert who is always licking her lips in a lecherous manner.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Justified. All Idaten are manifested in human clothing from the first time they come into existence, and those clothes are simply part of their being, and can never be changed.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Prontea looks like an androgynous young man with long white hair that goes past his waist.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: Prontea is almost as skilled in hand-to-hand combat as Rin, but prefers to fight using magic Idaten powers that are unique to him, being able to conjure elemental blasts of ice or fire.
  • Mama Bear: Brandy has legitimate maternal feelings for her demon children, and her Pet the Dog moment is her ordering them to escape from Zoble when she knows the Idaten are about the invade them, purely because she wants them to live on. Her own children are surprised by this.
  • Marshmallow Hell: Paula ends up shoving her huge breasts right into Hayato's face while trying to wake him up after Rin knocked him out.
  • Master Swordsman: While she usually fights with hand-to-hand combat, Rin's true skill comes with her mastery with the blade, being able to do superhuman feats with them, such as cutting off a demon's head without them even noticing. She's so deadly with it, that she only uses it when fighting demons and when the intent to kill.
  • Maou the Demon King: Oobami addresses himself as a "Demon Lord", even though it's pretty clear to both the Idaten and the demons that he's nothing of the sort, though they're not sure if he's a human either. The demons still call him "Maou" or "demon lord" out of respect, since he's a Benevolent Boss to them.
  • Modesty Bedsheet: One scene has Ferlandia laying post-sex on a sofa with her body covered up with a sheet, while having a smoke and talking about Kuraishi (who is shirtless but still has his pants on) about what to do next.
  • Modest Royalty: Played With. Takeshita is the modest emperor of the Zoble Empire, but the position is in-name-only, so he doesn't truly bother to hide it, dressing in fairly unassuming clothes and speaking in a bored and plain manner, which contrasts with his wife Brandy who does try to look and act the part.
  • Monster in the Ice: The plot is kickstarted by the Idaten finding the Zoble Empire retrieving one of the demons frozen in ice at the edges of the world, and they decide to unfreeze it to try to wield its power.
  • Mr. Exposition:
    • Ysley will always be the one to explain to Paula and the audience about the politics and technology of the world or how Idaten biology works.
    • The brainwashed Piscalat is the one who gets to explain the minutia of the demon's plans and how their powers and biology works.
  • Ms. Fanservice:
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: The Idaten and some of the demons have little to no musculature, but still show Super-Strength levels of physical power.
  • Naked Freak-Out: Piscalat is particularly vulnerable to sexual humiliation due to her prideful personality and lack of sexual experience, so despite her being a serious Dark Action Girl otherwise, she ends up blushing, screaming and covering herself like a shy little girl when Yslet destroys her top, something he openly mocks her for.
  • The Needless: Idaten deities don't need to eat, drink, breathe or any other biological need.
  • NEET: The house Miku finds as a new base for her demon operations belongs to a shut-in girl who has no social, familial or work life, meaning they can just wander in, kill her and take over the house with nobody ever finding out.
  • No Ending: Happened with the anime since the webcomic is on hiatus and the manga is still being serialized.
  • "Not If They Enjoyed It" Rationalization: Miku cruelly taunts Gil about her gang-rape with this logic, claiming that Gil must have enjoyed it deep down due to having at least two orgasms during it.
  • Offhand Backhand: In the prologue, Rin'd grandfather is shown defeating the demon with a casual backhand, illustrating how much stronger than the demons he was.
  • Off with Her Head!: Cory bites off Meliano's head when she and Buzz come to try and get help regarding their child.
  • Older Than They Look: The Idaten all look like teens or young adults, even though Rin is over 800 years old while Ysley and Hayato are nearly a century old. Being only 20 years old, Paula is the closest to actually resembling her age.
  • Oral Fixation: Ferlandia always has a cigarette in her mouth, no matter the situation.
  • Orgasmatron: Ysley developed an aphrodisiac cocktail to use against the demons, since he knows they're not used to dealing with their sexual desires, and while their brains are prepared to deal with pain, they have little defense against pleasure. The aphrodisiac is so potent that it paralyzes the demons with continuous ecstasy and causes multiple Forced Orgasm.
  • Person of Holding: Idaten can "sheath" blades inside their arms, and are able to magically pull it in or out when needed. Rin and Prontea have swords, with Ysley as a surgical knife.
  • Physical God: The titular Idaten deities are godlike beings that were prayed into existence by humanity, and can walk around Earth in physical human forms.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Rin is the smallest of the Idaten deities, but by far the strongest, being the only veteran from the great demon war.
  • Playful Cat Smile: Both Prontea and Miku tend to smile in this shape whenever they're being mischievous or cocky, usually towards someone that they toying with.
  • Prehensile Hair:
    • Piscalat's primary weapon is her own long blonde hair, which she can control as if they are limbs. Her hair is both incredibly durable and razor-sharp, being able to easily slice through human flesh and even flesh of Idaten deities.
    • Brandy's hair also serves as her greatest weapon, with her being able to control strings so thing they're invisible even to Rin, and she's basically able to use them as a Master of Threads, or use them to make bodies, even dead ones, as her People Puppets.
  • Pretty in Mink: Brandy's empress outfit is coated with fur trimmings, as a sign of her supposed high status.
  • Rape, Pillage, and Burn: The soldiers of the evil Zoble empire are explicitly encouraged to kill, rape and defile all the civilians from the cities they invade, stealing anything of value in the process and them leaving the place a pile of rubble.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Rin's eyes start to shine red when she becomes angry.
  • Remote Body: Oobami never shows himself in person, using remote-controlled robot proxies even when he communicates with his loyal demon servants. Some are identical replicas of his human body, others are cheap-looking robots with a TV screen. This is because he's a demon-created Idaten who's trapped in the seal, so he can't interact with the outside world, but can take over machines with his mind via Electronic Telepathy.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After analyzing the Idaten, Miku comes to the conclusion that the Zoble empire is doomed to be destroyed by them, and quickly makes plans to get out of the city, alongside Umeyo and Merku.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The last Idaten generation sacrificed themselves in order to create a seal that trapped all of the demons in a mountain. But this gets subverted later as Ysley reveals the demons inside have all died from starvation long ago, and the seal lasting this long was never necessary, maybe the sacrifice the previous Idaten did was a senseless one. It also led to Oobami, a demon Idaten, being born inside the seal.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: The sacrifice the previous generation of Idaten made to seal away the demons was pointless, as the demons all starved in just a year, and their accumulated desperation ended up creating their own persona Idaten: Oobami.
  • Sex Goddess: Due to Miku's supernatural observation skills, sheer insanity and Extreme Libido, she knows just where to touch to bring extreme ecstasy to people with just a few key touches of her fingers. She one time bragged to Brandy that she can have a human's eyes roll back in their head from the consecutive orgasms she gives them.
  • Shoulders-Up Nudity: When Ysley destroys Piscalat's top with a grenade, the camera remains positioned above on her shoulders, until she finally takes notice and uses her hands to cover her exposed breasts, which is when the camera finally pans down.
  • Shower Scene: Piscalat gets a shower scene in episode 11, and it looks like a purely fanservice focused one, with Toplessness from the Back shots and lot of Censor Steam, until she's ambushed by Oobami in a Remote Body and he manages to neutralize her for long enough that he manages to undo the brainwashing Ysley did on her.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: Rin defeated Paula in their "sparring" match with a single punch to Paula's stomach, which led to Paula vomiting blood for a while.
  • Slasher Smile: Piscalat's face twists into a maniac, deranged smile whenever she's being particularly vicious.
  • The Smart Guy: Ysley is the dedicated "smart guy" of the main group, being intelligent and a bookworm, who enjoys spending more time reading about history or learning human concepts than training. Hayato openly describes him as a "nerd".
  • Stripperiffic: Miku often wears a revealing red bodysuit with a low-cut, Navel-Deep Neckline and several gapd on the sides.
  • Sole Survivor: Rin is the only Idaten who survived the war against the demons that occurred 800 years before the events of the story.
  • Sorting Algorithm of Evil: Played With. Once he learns the Idaten location, Oobami decides to send one of his strongest demons, Nickel, in order to kill the Idaten decisively and even sends another assassin demon as support. But he didn't expect Rin to be so much stronger than the other Idaten, and she manages to kill Nickel without too much issue, which ends up terrifying the remaining demons. But Rin also refuses to leave the mountain where the demons are sealed, meaning the demons only have to deal with the other, much weaker Idaten.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Paula can naturally communicate with birds, as part of her Idaten powers, something the others can't do. Ysley explains this is due to her being partly made out of bird thoughts.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Ysley is the proper spelling of the blue-haired, glasses-wearing Idaten but the other Wiki and some auto-translations have a tendency to spell his name as "Easley".
  • Stealth Expert: Since Paula is able to reduce her own mass, she can move more gracefully than the other Idaten when moving at Super-Speed, which means she can speed around normal people, or even the demons without ever being perceived or making a sound.
  • Sultry Bangs: Miku is a sultry and perverted demon whose left eye is always covered by her dark hair.
  • Super-Speed: Idaten like Rin and Hayato can run so fast as to casually break the speed barrier, and casually cross the planet in a couple of hours.
  • Super-Strength: The Idaten deities are all supernaturally strong, being able to reshape the landscape with just their limbs.
  • Super-Toughness: They may look ordinary, but Idaten deities are far harder to hurt than a normal person, and even if you manage to visibly wound them, they can still heal themselves.
  • Surreal Humor: Most of the humor from the series comes from how bizarre the Idaten's bizarre Blue-and-Orange Morality and its contrasts with the awful things happening to the humans around them, which are often shown with Deranged Animation and played as off-beat Black Comedy.
  • They Look Like Us Now: A major plot point: The demons came back to destroy humanity without the Idaten ever noticing, as they did so by taking a Human Disguise and blending in with humanity, using the Zoble Empire to spread their influence without the Idaten noticing or interfering.
  • Torso with a View: The Idaten can get a hole blown open in their chest by the demons, but while it wounds them it's hardly fatal, and they can keep fighting even with a large gap in the middle of their torso.
  • Training from Hell: Rin's methods of training the new Idaten are very extreme, and often involved her brutally beating them up to "improve their Healing Factor". This backfired since it was so brutal that only Hot-Blooded Hayato kept training with her, while Ysley ran away from the training and advised Paula to never even meet Rin. Protea also endured it for many years, and was left traumatized by it.
  • Unholy Matrimony:
    • Takeshita and Brandy are an actual demon couple that serves as the rulers of the Zoble empire, and they seem to be a genuine Happily Married couple.
    • Ferlandia and Kuraishi are a demon couple who are genuinely in love, though they bicker often.
  • Villainous Underdog: The demons are very underpowered against the Idaten, with their strongest members being a match for some of the weakest of the Idaten, meaning they have to use their guile and underhanded tactics in order to be a threat.
  • Villainous Valour: Takeshita and Brandy stay behind to fight the Idaten when they invade Zoble, despite knowing it's a hopeless fight, but they do it out of a sense of duty and to buy time to give their lesser demon colleagues a chance to escape.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: The hybrid demons can shapeshift their human forms at will, often changing a limb into some demonic body part, though what body part and what form exactly tends to change from demon to demon.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Miku and Barcode were both created in an experiment to create a perfect demon. It failed, and they turned out to be much weaker than the average demon, yet the experiment have their bodies complex nervous systems, allowing them to become much smarter and skilled than their colleagues.
  • We Have Become Complacent: The premise of the story is that the current generation of Idaten is not prepared to fight off the new demons since they have lived over a century of peace and never took their training seriously. Only Rin and Protea have the power expected from an Idaten.
  • Wife Husbandry: When Miku, Merku and Umeyo escaped from Zoble's fall, they took two male human babies with them, and Miku makes it pretty clear she's planning on "marrying" them to her and Merku so they can get pregnant and make more demons. Merku is disturbed by the idea, but since Miku is a "shota" lover, she's looking forward to it.
  • Worf Effect: Nickel is built up as being one of the strongest demons alive, but when he tries to fight Rin, he's easily dispatched by her, establishing that a trained Idaten is much stronger than even the strongest of demons.
  • You Are Already Dead: Rin kills Nickel by cutting off their head without them even noticing. Nickel keeps on talking, wondering why he can do it but not move the rest of his body. Rin quips that it's because his head is no longer connected to his body, prompting Nickel to suddenly die as his head rolls over.
