Tropes T to Z for The Flower Princess and the Alchemist.
- Tastes Like Friendship: How a friendship between Ed and Orihime begin to form.
- Team Chef: Orihime becomes the designated cook of their little group.
- Team Mom: Orihime definitely qualifies. She's basically The Heart of the group and the Team Chef. Ed and Al often draw parallels between her and Trisha.
- Technical Pacifist: Ed and Al would have no problem beating the crap out of people, Ed more so than Al, but they would never outright kill anyone. Ed also Doesn't Like Guns, as they make killing too easy.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Edward and Eria work together to defeat Amelia in Chapter 41. Before the battle, Ed irritably claims to Eria that he would rather rip Orihime's soul right out of her and put it back in its rightful owner, but begrudging admits that they have bigger problems.
- It is later revealed that the homunculi and mod souls relationship is this. The author claimed that their relationship is purely opportunistic.
- Tender Tears: Orihime sheds these quite a lot. Sometimes overlaps with Tears of Joy, Tears of Remorse, or Broken Tears.
- Textile Work Is Feminine: Orihime is often shown knitting/sewing scarves and other clothing. And she's damn good at it! Not surprising since she's part of the sewing club at her school, and said to be second only to Uryu.
- Then Let Me Be Evil: The crux of Zero's Start of Darkness. Everyone kept calling him a "monster". His parents sold him to a Mad Scientist because they deemed him to be a "monster". If he really is considered a "monster" for developing supernatural powers, then he'll give them...the whole world the monster they believe him to be.
- They're Called "Personal Issues" for a Reason: Invoked by Orihime. When Ed finally tells her about the his and Al's bodies, Orihime confesses that she already knew that. When a bewildered Edward asks why hasn't she said anything about it, she gently replies that she didn't want to reopen his wound. She also says that she would patiently wait for him to tell her of his own accord.
- Through His Stomach: Ed openly and joyously expresses how much he loves Orihime’s cooking, even stating to be one of his favorite meals to eat. In a more platonic sense, this makes Orihime enjoy cooking even more.
- Token Human: Chloe on the homunculi's side.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Winry and Orihime, respectively. However, Winry does her have her girlish moments and Orihime bonds with her over mechanics and robots.
- Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Winry is Edward's mechanic with a strong passion for automail and mechanical gadgets in general. She also displays a sensitive and feminine side on occasions, and enjoys baking pie from time to time.
- Tragic Keepsake: In a heart to heart moment between Al and Orihime, Orihime declares that her hairpins are the last gift her late brother ever gave her before he died.
- Tragic Monster: This is Nina's opinion on Hollows in general.Nina (sadly): "They are bad, unhappy monsters."
- Trapped in Another World: The story starts off with Orihime being mysteriously transported into the world of FMA. She spends the beginning portion of it trying to either figure out a way to return to her world or wait for her friends to rescue her. Although, she slowly starts to bond with the friends she makes there, especially Ed and Al. This makes it all the sadder when the author stated that Orihime is eventually going to have to choose between her world or their world.
- Trauma Button: Thanks to the horrific, nightmarish illusions Orihime underwent by a Monster of the Week making her relive her Break the Cutie ordeals that she suffered in Hueco Mundo, seeing white, mainly people wearing large amounts of white, triggers her PTSD.
- Trauma-Induced Amnesia:
- This is the reason why Alphonse can't remember the Gate of Truth. At least, at first. He eventually remembers and now can use circle-less alchemy.
- It turns out Nina did know what happened to her mother. She accidentally stumbled into her father's lab one day just in time to witness the finished project of him turning her mother into a chimera. The event was so traumatic for her that she screamed, fainted, and later repressed the awful memory.
- It was also the reason why Nina couldn't remember her father turning her into a chimera.
- Traumatic Haircut: Happened to Orihime in her Backstory by kids who thought her hair was weird and ugly.
- Trying Not to Cry: When Orihime tries desperately to dissuade Edward for getting any more involved with the supernatural world, it becomes increasingly difficult to hold back her tears because he keeps "killing her with kindness". Eventually she sheds a Single Tears of Joy when Ed wants to stay by her side, despite the danger.
- Tsundere:
- Winry is a Type B.
- Edward shows some tsundere-like traits, mostly in regards to his feelings toward Orihime. He's a Type A. Interesting in that he rarely yells at her, but at the people who assume that he's attracted to her.
- Sammy the cat is another type A example. Initially being standoffish and rude at first before slowly warming up to Orihime.
- Turn the Other Cheek: One of Orihime's more admirable and endearing trait. While most characters are very argumentative, it takes a lot of willpower, self-discipline and heart to just let bygones be bygones.
- Twice Shy: Some of Edward and Orihime's romantic interactions come off as this. Ed's dorkiness and Orihime's Shrinking Violet tendencies could be downright cutesy and endearing at times. Although, it prevents them from establishing a relationship when they constantly dance around each other. That, and other factors...
- Two Guys and a Girl: Edward, Alphonse, and Orihime. Originally.
- Umbrella of Togetherness: Chapter 29. After Orihime returns from her dream world, she goes missing once again the next day. Edward goes off to look for her, and finds her standing in front of Reo's grave. After reminiscing about everything she's been through and finally confessing of how secretly proud she is to have met Ed and Al, she makes a promise to stay be the brothers' side until they get their bodies back. Edward doesn't say anything and offers his umbrella to her to keep her from getting rained on.
- Unfinished Business: Basically every spirit has something that's keeping them from moving on to the afterlife.
- Unknown Rival:
- Ichigo is this to Edward when it comes to the Love Triangle between Ed, Orihime, and Ichigo.
- As of Chapter 34, this is averted as Ed is now well aware Orihime is in love with Ichigo. Still remains in denial though, but has shown some signs of feeling jealous.
- On the other hand, Ichigo is unaware of Orihime's feelings for him, so this is played straight.
- Unknowingly in Love: Despite the Unresolved Sexual Tension between them, Orihime has some difficulty recognizing her true feelings for Edward ( even though they have kissed on a few occasions). This mainly has to due to her being so madly in love with Ichigo that she can't perceive her feelings for Edward as anything romantic in nature because it's just too different than what she feels for Ichigo. Plus, her deep-seated self-worth and insecurity issues also plays a factor because she strongly believes that no one would truly fall in love with her. The real her. The ugly, broken person she tries to hide from the world.
- Unlimited Wardrobe: Invoked by Ed. Ed decides to take Orihime shopping as a way to return the favor for all the help she's done for both him and Al. Some Hilarity Ensues, thanks to Orihime's Think Nothing of It mentality. Until, finally, Ed gets fed up and forcibly takes Orihime shopping, whether she likes it or not. Subverted, Orihime still primarily wears her school uniform, but she's shown to change outfits from time to time, compared to everyone else's Limited Wardrobe.
- Unrequited Tragic Maiden: A rare male example. Edward comes so close to becoming this when a villain seductress tries to use his heartbreak and despair against him. She cruelly breaks him by talking, trying to manipulate him into turning against Orihime by mocking that as long as Orihime is in love with Ichigo, she would never return his affections, even providing him mental images of Orihime choosing Ichigo over Edward, something she knows deep down he so desperately craves just to rub salt on the wound. Once she has him in her clutches, she plants a Forceful Kiss on him, which steals his life energy. Luckily, Ed manages to snap out of it in time when recalling his Declaration of Protection to Orihime and giving an epic Shut Up, Hannibal! speech that basically boils down to "So what if he's jealous? That's a stupid reason to betray Orihime. It's perfectly natural for anyone to feel jealous, or it could just be another strong aspect of his personality when it comes to Orihime. At the end of the day, his feelings are his and his alone, and no one has any right to take advantage of them." This becomes one of the greatest Crowning Moment of Heartwarming when Ed passionately admits that seeing Orihime cry would be way worse than his hurt feelings. However, since most of his energy has been drained, he's rendered too weak to fight back. Ultimately, he is saved once again when Eria pulls a Villainous Rescue.
- Unresolved Sexual Tension: Orihime's and Edward's relationship in a nutshell. It's obvious that Ed has a definite crush on her (though he won't admit it), but Orihime's feelings for him are pretty vague. She has shown signs that she feels "something" for Ed. When she was trapped in a illusion where her life was back to the way it was before she met Ed and Al, she felt that "something" was still missing. Ultimately, it was Ed's voice that helped her escape. She doesn't know why she feels a strong desire to see Ed again or why she's so reluctant to leave his side, she just is. Cue The Promise. The only thing keeping them from admitting their feelings is that Orihime still has feelings for Ichigo, and Ed being... well, Ed.
- The Un-Smile: Played for Laughs. Orihime sports this only once when she's silently telling everyone to go along with Nina's imaginary friend. Ed notes how super creepy it is, and would rather take a wrench in the face by Winry than to see that smile ever again.
- Uptight Loves Wild: Down to earth Deadpan Snarker Ed falls in love with cheery Cloud Cuckoo Lander Orihime.
- Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Zero before his parents sold him to a Mad Scientist.
- Vain Sorceress: Amelia, a manipulative and sadistic woman, who uses her looks, charm, and forked tongue to play with the emotional vulnerability of men, killing them by draining their life energy and transfering it to her. And for what? To keep herself looking young and beautiful forever. She even sold her soul to a Hollow to keep her young and beautiful appearance, and must use the life force of others to sustain her youthful look. Naturally, when the Hollow is killed, she dies as well.
- Villainesses Want Heroes: A Gender Flipped example. Morgan has an unhealthy obsession with Orihime.
- Villainous Crush: Morgan seems to have a sick and twisted infatuation with Orihime. So much so that he sleeps with another woman, pretending she's Orihime and even screaming out Orihime's name while climaxing.
- Villainous Friendship: Despite their differing personalities and fighting skills, Ritsuko, Morgan, and Kyuko are all genuine friends. Ritsuko and Morgan are Vitriolic Best Buds constantly snarking at each other. And Kyuko looks up to Ritsuko as a Cool Big Sis.
- Villainous Rescue: Eria comes to Edward's rescue in Chapter 41.
- Violently Protective Girlfriend: Gender Flipped. Though they are not a couple, and Edward remains in denial of his feelings, DO NOT mess with Orihime. Or worse, make her cry.
- Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World: More like "wake up, help the Elric brothers in their research, and stop Hollows from disturbing the peace". Orihime has taken it upon herself to, basically, perform the duties of a Soul Reaper whenever possible. This is the exact reason Edward accuses Orihime of keeping secrets.
- Warts and All:
- Ichigo to Orihime. She basically describes him as a lovable delinquent.
- Edward, too, in a less romantic sense. Unfortunately, for him.
- We Help the Helpless: Implied. One entry of Orihime's diary declares she always wanted to help people in need.
- We Need to Get Proof: Perhaps one of the biggest reasons why Orihime is never upfront with the fact that ghosts and ghost-like monsters are real. She is genre savvy enough to know that in a world full of smart guys and girls with superpowers related to their smarts, eveyone is potentially an Agent Scully who won't believe in such "delusional nonsense" without any proof or solid evidence. She only really comes forth with the existence of the supernatual world to Nina and Hughes when the two are attacked and nearly killed by a Hollow at different points of the story, forcing the latter to come to terms that ghosts are indeed real and some are very dangerous.
- Wham Episode: There are a few throughout the first series, and showcase the story becoming Darker and Edgier than canon. And others showing the telltale sign of the story going through a Cerebus Syndrome.
- Chapter 16 showcase the first appearances of Hollows into the story, fully incorporating the elements of Bleach into the story.
- Also shows the first hint of Nina possessing latent spiritual powers.
- Chapter 25 results in the first appearance of mod souls, concluding in a Near-Villain Victory and The Bad Guys Win. Although, the mod souls didn't finish off the main characters, they still got what the came their for. A piece of Orihime's soul.
- Chapter 32 reveals what happened to the piece of Orihime's soul the mod souls stole. It went into another mod soul by the name of Eria, who is basically, for all intents and purposes, Orihime's Shadow Archetype.
- Chapter 16 showcase the first appearances of Hollows into the story, fully incorporating the elements of Bleach into the story.
- Wham Shot: Happens in Chapter 46 when the prime suspect for Hughes's murder turns out to be Ichigo Kurosaki. When Ed finds out, he is rightfully horrified and conflicted. He's torn between relieving his Hopless Suitor status, but at the horrible cost of breaking Orihime's heart upon knowing her First Love is a potential criminal. He resolves to keep her from discovering the truth until he knows for sure whether Ichigo killed Hughes or not.
- What Beautiful Eyes!: Orihime frequently makes comments about how warm and bright Edward's eyes are, comparing it to the color of the sun. It's one of the first signs that indicates she's starting to fall in love with him.
- What Is This Feeling?: For quite a long time, Edward couldn't understand why he feels so incredibly hurt and angry whenever Orihime thinks about Ichigo. Why her love for him causes him great pain and anguish. Thanks to the manipulations of Amelia, he was able to discern the emotion he was feeling was...jealousy.
- What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: An unusual case. Orihime is well aware of what love is. After all, she's in love with Ichigo. However, her confusing lays with her growing feelings for Edward. She can never understand why there are these subtle and fleeting feelings of delightful emotions and contentment that flutter inside of her or the overwhelming desire just to see or be near him instead of the explosion of passion she gets when thinking of Ichigo.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Chapter 15. Alphonse furiously yells and hits Edward, calling him out on his jerkass behaviour towards Orihime and making her cry after the girl just saved Nina's life. Edward realizes how much of ungrateful bastard he is and goes to apologize to Orihime. Only to run into Scar.
- When a scared and desperate Orihime tries to get Edward to understand that supernatural world is beyond his comprehension and that he is just putting himself in needless and senseless danger, Ed angrily rebukes her for trying invoke him into being Locked Out of the Loop willingly. How can she expect him to consciously remain calm and ignorant when the woman he loves is always in danger?
- When She Smiles: Downplayed. Orihime smiles all the time. However, Edward describes the smile she reserves just for Ichigo to be truly beautiful, full of genuine happiness, and the brightest of all her smiles. He also finds it painful to see because it isn't for him. When she finally smiles at him like that after he gives her a pair of earrings as a gift, his heart immediately soars.
- Who's Laughing Now?: Zero's response in a nutshell when he finds his parents gloating about getting rid of him. Till this day, he doesn't regret killing them.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Because of Orihime's experiences in Hueco Mundo, first she gained a fear of the dark. Enough that she couldn't sleep at night without a night light for a few months. However, once she's over that phobia, a new phobia rears its ugly head after she's forced to relive her trauma... Fear of the color white.
- Will They or Won't They?: With all the heartwarming moments between Edward and Orihime, this trope appears to be deliberate. As of Chapter 47, they will..
- Wistful Amnesia: While in a dreamworld, Orihime still has a vague knowledge that something is missing. That something is Ed and Al. It shows how much Orihime cares and appreciates the time they spent together.
- The Worf Effect: Ed and Al are easily taken out by Ritsuko to establish how dangerous mod souls are.
- World of Badass: Seeing as this is a Crossover between Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist, it's a given.
- World's Most Beautiful Woman: Thanks to Orihime's modeling, she is now this in Amestris, much to Ed's displeasure for obvious reasons.
- Wound That Will Not Heal: Ritsuko's sword's, Shinachou's, ability is this. The only who would be able to heal it is Orihime.
- Xenafication: Somewhat subverted. Despite her pacifistic personality, Orihime has shown an even greater level of competence and skill in her abilities, unlike her Neutral Female role in the original manga. Although, she still refuses to actively participate in any fight.
- Yamato Nadeshiko: As surprising as it sounds, Orihime has shown some traits of this. She is a kindhearted and sweet tempered girl. She cooks, sews , and she's very devoted to her friends, even offering them emotional support, such as when she gently helps Alphonse confront his existential crisis. But when push comes to shove, she isn't afraid to fight back in her own way.
- Yandere: Morgan most definitely qualifies for one. When his Implied Love Interest is sitting on death's door, he becomes desperate in his pursuit on helping her. When she dies, he goes on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge on the doctor he deems responsible for her death by refusing to help her due to financial difficulties.
- When Morgan hears rumors about Orihime possibly having a boyfriend, he immediately entertains the idea of doing one of two things. Murdering Edward or raping Orihime in front of him while the young alchemist is helpless to stop it all while sporting a sadistic grin at the mere thought. Not to mention, he goes on a raping spree to vent out his lust, anger, and frustration.
- It's worth noting while Morgan’s attraction to Orihime is all but stated to be pure lust, his love for his Implied Love Interest is surprisingly genuine, hinting that she was his first and only love, no matter how many women he sleeps with after her death, and her death really devastated him.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Chapter 34. While Ed laments to Winry that his pocket watch is a constant reminder of his shame, guilt, and weakness, Orihime gives him a Rousing Speech about how truly caring and admirable he is because he's so dedicated to his cause.
- You Can See Me?: A spirit's first response of utter disbelief when Orihime talks to her.
- You Remind Me of X: Orihime reminiscences a few times about how much Edward's personality and actions are similar to Ichigo's.
- Your Makeup Is Running: Chapter 39. A downplayed example. After Orihime finishes telling Ed the story about how much she used to hate her hair because she was constantly picked on and tormented by bullies because of it, she cries into his suit, getting a tiny smudge of mascara on it. It's hardly noticeable because it's black mascara on a black jacket.
- Your Soul Is Mine!: This is Kyuko's power. The Mod Souls attempt to do this to Orihime on their first appearance. Ritsuko causes havoc and fights Edward and Alphonse to distract them long enough for Morgan and Kyuko to steal Orihime's soul. Luckily, it doesn't work out that way as Orihime manages to get her soul back. Unfortunately, it wasn't a complete failure on the Mod Soul's part as they still retained a tiny piece of her soul.
- Your Universe or Mine?: The author has heavily implied that Orihime's going to have to choose between staying with Ed and Al, or returning back to her old world. Also implying she has to choose between Ichigo and Edward.
- You're Cute When You're Angry: Orihime once comments that she finds Edward's angry rants funny because it's reminiscent of (at least, to her) a cute, barking puppy, much to his chagrin and embarrassment.
- Zen Survivor: Orihime is very mild example. She inwardly dicourages regular people from trying to pursue the supernatural, and when Edward actively wants to get involved, she tries in vain to dissuade him from ucovering the truth of the supernatural world, believing once he gets fully involved, unlike his tragic mistake with Human Transmutation, it'd be something that could never be undone and his pursuit of Set Right What Once Went Wrong would be partially null and void. He could regain his and his brother's bodies back sure, but he could never just redo a life-changing decision. Once it's made, it's made. No ifs, ands, or buts. She once remarks that Hollow hunting is a "self-sacrificing job without any rewards".
