Funny Moments for Invincible (2021). You know, to cope with the horror and heartbreak.

    General
  • Cecil Steadman is the Director of the GDA and approaches every situation with "I-am-so-tired-of-this-shit" attitude that it's clear he's reached the point that he's Bored with Insanity.
  • The Graysons' homelife every episode gives us a peek into what life would be like for a superhero and his family. They talk casually about Omni-Man's daily exploits in between talk about school and work, while Debbie's reaction to her husband getting lost in another dimension is treated as him being late to dinner.
  • The Running Gag of Mark telling people his superhero name is "Invincible" and them reacting accordingly usually pointing out that it sounds "optimistic". This includes a girl dating a superhero named Rex Splode and an alien named Allen.
  • A burger franchise seen in several episodes, Burger Mart, has the unfortunate slogan "Start your day with a hot BM!"

Season 1

    It's About Time
  • The Mauler Twins, who aren't actually twins but a hulking blue Genius Bruiser and his clone. The "twins" thing is more them not knowing for sure who the clone is and bicker about like two brothers arguing over who the older sibling is.
  • In a bit of meta humor regarding the superhero genre and it's tendency for Monumental Damage, there's this exchange between Mark and his mom regarding Nolan saving the White House from the Mauler Twins:
Debbie: Looks like we won't be getting breakfast together this morning. Bummer.
Mark: ...It's the White House, mom. Kind of important?
Debbie: Oh, they rebuild that thing twice a week at this point. If it's not Doc Seismic, it's the Lizard League, or someone else...I doubt the President still lives there.
  • Mark's Parental Sexuality Squick.
Mark: Boundaries, people! Bathroom doors are closed for a reason and parents should never, ever talk about sex in front of their kids.
Debbie: You should be overjoyed to see your parents passionately expressing their love for each other. Now stop griping and get ready for school.
Mark: Couldn't you at least wait until I leave the house... for college!
  • Will, who doesn't know Mark's dad is Omni-Man, commenting on how attractive Omni-Man is.
Will: Sure he's hot and all. And that moustache...
    Mark: (sighs in annoyance)
    Will: Sorry! Ok... straight stuff...
  • Amber's response when Todd says she must be a lesbian if she's not interested in his advances.
Amber: Oh my God, I wish. Would you leave me alone then?
  • The famous scene of Mark getting his powers at long last when he's taking out the garbage for his part-time job and accidentally tosses a bag of garbage into low orbit.
  • Omni-Man telling Mark that learning to fly is like "Peeing your pants on purpose."
  • In a darkly humorous way, during the massacre of the Guardians, the Immortal and War Woman land two devastating blows on Omni Man in slow-motion...which transition into a series of audibly less impressive sounding punches to the face.
  • In a meta sense, the choice to show Robert Kirkman's name in the credits right before the massacre can be seen as a humorous warning of what's about to happen if you recognize the name from his other famous series.
  • Red Rush quickly dashes away from his date with Olga to defeat the supervillain Kursk while he was still monologuing.
Kursk: I want to see fear in your eyes! The same fear— (Red Rush zips past and Kursk is now tied to a post) What is this?

    Here Goes Nothing
  • The Brick Joke in the opening scene when something falls out of the sky in front of Buckingham Palace that's played for some great Black Comedy. At first it seems like a dead body fell from a huge height and exploded all over people. Then its revealed the "blood" is ketchup: it was the garbage bag Mark accidentally threw when he first got his powers.
    • And then, if you're a fan of Black Comedy, the cut from a mess of ketchup and hamburger meat to the horribly mutilated corpses of the Guardians of the Globe makes it even funnier. For a second it is hard to tell a difference.
  • Allen the Alien. Yes you read that right. A one-eyed super-strong alien voiced by Seth Rogen that apparently requires the might of the Guardians or Omni-Man to fend off. At first it seems like he's a recurring alien threat to the Earth until Mark explains he wants to talk:
Allen: Are you using your time out?
Invincible: I get a time out? (voice cracks) Why do I get a time out?
    • Allen then explains that he works for the Coalition of Planets that regularly checks to make sure a planet's "champion" is capable of dealing with major space threats. He pulls out a tablet to prove that "Urath" asked for an evaluation:
Invincible: "Urath"?! (points to the planet) This is EARTH!
Allen: (slowly looks from the planet, to Mark, then to his tablet) "Earrrrrrth"?
      Invincible: (exasperated) Yes!
      Allen: ...Not Urath?
      Invincible: No.
Allen: [Beat] Is that with an "E" or a "U"?
      Invincible: "E"!
Allen: ...Oh, I am in so much trouble.
    • Allen telling Mark that "Invincible" is a bit of an optimistic superhero name, saying how their fight proved he was actually "quite vincible".
    • Then after Allen says good-bye and leaves, there's Mark's "What the hell was that?" reaction before being distracted by the sight of the Earth from surface of the Moon.
  • Mark meeting fellow teenage superheroes the Teen Team, who are mentioned to be the fourth most popular team of teenage superheroes. It's mentioned that a more popular team is one called "Fight Force" who are apparently the Butt Monkeys of teen super teams.
  • William being both the best and the worst wingman ever for Mark as he tries to impart dating advice and hook him up with girls.
    • He becomes a Shipper on Deck for Mark and Eve a day after saying he had no chance with her until everyone at school saw them leaving together.
    • Mark insist that he and Eve are Just Friends which William points saying decreases the chance of him dating her. The fact she already has a boyfriend? Mark just needs to proves that he's better and replace him, since that's just how dating works.
    • William asks why Mark's so intimidated by Eve...besides her being awesome and him being pretty basic he means:
      Mark: Thanks William.
    • When Mark leaves to deal with a crisis, William yells after him how he'll be alone forever. Cue Amber walking up to him:
Amber: Is Mark dating Eve Wilkins?
William: I wish! (Sees her Fascinating Eyebrow) I-I mean no. Definitely not. She's got a boyfriend. He's super available. [Pulls out a pen] You want his number? I'll write it down for you.
  • When Omni-Man shows up to help fight the Flaxans and ends up going through the portal with the leader, Invincible cries out "Dad!" as the portal closes. The entire Teen Team look at him in shock over this, with Rex voicing their surprise.
Rex: Oh whoa, whoa, whoa. Omni-Man's your dad?!
  • Debbie shows zero reaction to Nolan getting trapped in an alien dimension, acting mildly disappointed that he'll be late for dinner, compared to Mark's genuine panic. She then reassures Mark that fighting aliens in another dimension is a typical scenario for her to comprehend as the wife of a superhero.
Debbie: I was worried before because I've never seen your father so badly hurt, but taking on aliens in another dimension? That's just Tuesday.

    Who You Calling Ugly?
  • Doubles as Awesome. Monster Girl's casual ass-kicking of Rex Splode after pressing her Berserk Button, especially as he had just been caught cheating on Eve.
    • After Mark steps in and takes out Monster Girl with one punch, with her transformating back to human form, an offscreen voice shouts:
      • Mark's reaction is a sheepish "Oh sh- shit"
    • How the fight starts is also pretty funny too: when Robot is listing off those who have passed and are the new Guardians of the Globe this includes Monster Girl. Rex bursts out laughing, interrupting the triumphant music, as the idea of this little girl being made a Guardian leaving everyone speechless. Monster Girl gets back at him implying his strutting around is him Compensating for Something. This gets a few of the heroes present laughing.
Rex: [Pissed, charges his powers] Someone needs to teach you some motherfucki- [Monster Girl starts to transform] Whaaaaat the fuck? [Gets punched across the room into the arena]
Monster Girl: Hm. Guess you missed my tryout.
    • We'd be remiss to ignore the actual, specific exchange of insults that starts the fight.
Rex: Aaaw, look at her, she's adorable! But isn't there, like, an age requirement? for this ride? Am I wrong? I mean this is weird, right?
      Robot: Rex.
Monster Girl: I dunno, you're here. Isn't there a dick size requirement?
      Rex: I'm sorry?!
Monster Girl: For what, your tiny dick?
    • This line after the fight.
Rex: [groaning in pain] I'm gonna shit blood....
  • Mark technically committing a Two-Timer Date with Amber and Eve when he's called in to help with an emergency with the latter while on a study-date with the former.
  • The many doctorates of Doc Seismic.
Doc Seismic: You should be on my side! We could tear down the old power structure and build a new order! I mean look at that costume they've got you in. Talk about pandering to gender roles.
Eve: [confused/offended] I designed my own costume? And I thought your doctorate was in seismology.
Doc Seismic: Undergrad in sociology and women's studies, I have a minor in African Dance.
  • After the fight with Doc Seismic and several lame one-liners, Mark has this to say on the concept:
Invincible: Oh, I see. So, like, none of these sound good, huh.
  • Omni-Man has a severed tentacle on his cape after his fight with the Cthulhu-like Kaiju, and then jokes to his wife about cooking it.
  • One of the Mauler Twins is genuinely disappointed that his escape happened on a Thursday which is "Chicken Pot Pie Night". And according to Pete the security guard, it's everyone's favorite.
    • The escape itself has a few laughs such as one of the Mauler Twins taking the time to make the other twin whose still stuck in his cell say he's the clone.
      • For bonus comedy, if you're watching with subtitles on, the Mauler saying he's a clone has his dialogue marked as Mauler 1, while the other is Mauler 2.
    • There's also the awkward Beat when one of the twins grabs Pete's arm as he was passing out said pot pies, before sheepishly apologizing to him for the violence to come. At least they actually like Pete enough to spare him too.
  • While it's a chilling example of Nolan's Lack of Empathy, there's something darkly humorous about Omni-Man giving two heartfelt, tearjerking eulogies for the late Guardians of the Globe, who he himself killed. Only to, when he gets home, cheerily talk with his son about training and pizza like nothing happened. And then very curtly correcting his wife on calling them his "friends" when she chastises him for this, complete with a raised brow expression that just screams "Yeah, let's not go THAT far..."; a punchline that could fit right into a sitcom...except the "punchline" is in response to the reminder that he just came from said friends' FUNERAL.

Neil Armstrong, Eat Your Heart Out
  • Mark's lack of geography knowledge bites him once again
Nolan:"Last one to Mount Everest does the dishes for a week. Go!" (immediately zooms off)
    Mark:"Yeah! ...wait. Where's Mount Everest?"
    Nolan:"It's the high one"
    • His lack of astronomy knowledge also gets in the way
Mark: How much school am I really gonna miss? I can zip up to Mars and be back tomorrow!
Nolan: The fact that you don't know how far away Mars is, is exactly why you shouldn't be missing school.
  • As the ship headed to Mars meets with a space station, the lifeless body of Bi-Plane casually floats by like a piece of debris.
  • When being briefed about the Mars mission, Cecil tells Mark to "pack a lunch". On the way to the planet, it turns out he actually did, and when he goes for a bite of a sandwich, it's rock solid and crumbles. In his own words:
    "Pack a lunch, my ass."
  • Mark getting back from Mars early results in his almost walking in on his parents having such passionate sex that he assumes from the noise someone's attacking them. Once it becomes clear what was actually going on, they all clearly make a silent agreement to not say a single word about it.
    • The zipping sound makes you wonder just how deep into things Nolan and Debbie were when Mark interrupted them.
    • Nolan also has his legs crossed and realigning the lamp they knocked over, Deborah also sounds out of breath when she speaks to Mark for the first time. Hilariously, when Deborah finishes talking, Nolan grins as if to say "We all know what was really happening so please leave so we can finish and then we can pretend this never happened".
    • For this entire scene, Nolan talks with the most plain monotone he can muster while looking like he took some meds to stay alert.
Nolan: Oh, hey! You're... Back. Early. (Beat) Wow.
    • Given Debbie's reaction, this is not the first time they had such a quickie.
  • While the scene is horrific for showing how Nolan can be manipulative towards even his own wife and being petty enough to calmly allow a dragon to literally burn down Rome to spite the GDA, it's also in a way hilariously dickish, with viewers comparing it to whenever their own dads or bosses are being lazy and unhelpful.
Nolan: I'm on vacation with my beautiful wife, let Cecil earn his paycheck.

    That Actually Hurt
  • Pretty much every single scene with Machine Head is guaranteed to get some laughs.
  • As seen in the Page Image, Invincible casually texting Amber while ignoring several objects thrown at him by an offscreen villain.
Invincible: Hey can't make it tonight. Just got hit by something. (Gets hit by a flying brick)
Amber: Ur standing me up? you tread on dangerous ground my friend.
Invincible: It'll be worth the wait to see me on my best behavioral. *Behavior. (Gets struck by a pipe, which Mark casually nudges back)
Amber: do NOT miss dinner with my mom on Thursday if you value everything you hold dear, Mark Grayson
Invincible: Not for the end of the world. (Gets hit with a mail box) Seriously?
  • After a dramatic outburst that results in Titan smashing Machine Head's desk, Machine Head says he has to pay for the desk. Titan's frustration suddenly becomes comical when he visibly grumbles.
Machine Head: This was imported Italian maple.
    • Machine Head's furniture continues to take a thorough beating during the episode, and he's entirely unhappy about it.
Machine Head: I also knew exactly when you and this giant pile of shit would walk in and ruin my doors — ALSO ITALIAN MAPLE, BY THE WAY.
  • For training, Nolan has Mark stop an asteroid from crashing onto Earth, and he successfully throws it back into space.
Omni-Man: How's it feel to save the world? Or at least a country? By the way, that was a small one.
Invincible: (panting) THAT WAS A SMALL ONE?!
Omni-Man: Yeah, you should've seen the asteroid I diverted a few years ago. The size of Texas.
  • In another bit of training, Nolan teaches Mark how to interrogate a henchman...via the classic High-Altitude Interrogation technique.
    Invincible: Now what?
Omni-Man: Mark, you have to scare him. Make him think you'll actually drop him.
    Henchman: I can hear you!
Invincible: I dunno, that-that seems mean.
Omni-Man: Alright here, I'll show you. (Grabs the henchmen's ankle from Mark and immediately drops him)
    Henchman: (Screams)
    Invincible: (Gasps)
Omni-Man: There, see? Now he'll tell me everything.
Invincible: Okay but, you're gonna catch him...right?
    Omni-Man: ...Yeah...in a second...
  • Titan getting Invincible's attention by writing his name in paint on the roof of a building. Well, sort of—the best he can do is "NVNCBL".
Invincible: I think you missed a few letters.
Titan: Paint costs money and you got a long-ass name.
  • Titan tries to show Invincible how much damage Machine Head is doing to the city. To get around, Invincible carries Titan in is arms while flying.
Invincible: It's not a party for me either, man.
  • Eve argues with her parents over being a hero and dumping Rex for cheating. She makes a door into the wall and flies off. Instead of the usual "Don't you dare slam that door" that parents shout at their kids...
Eve's father: Don't you leave that door there!
  • Shrinking Rae clarifying to Black Samson that the Snake Gun of one of the Lizard League's members was called a Snake-erator. She literally shrinks in on herself when the team looks at her.
Shrinking Rae: He called it a S-Snake-erator...
  • There's something darkly comedic in the fact that when the Guardians have their Let's Get Dangerous! moment, the first to get a beatdown (to the point that he's left holding his "guts" in with his hands) is Furnace, the one member of Machine Head's minions whose contribution to the fight is so minimal you could be forgiven for forgetting he's there at all.
    • Not just minimal, nonexistent. While he's not the only one who doesn't defeat a hero, Magmaniac at least pulls his own weight shielding Machine Head and fighting the intruders. Furnace never even makes an attack or even does anything besides be present in some of the group shots, making him the villainous minion equivalent of the guy who doesn't do anything in group projects.

    You Look Kinda Dead
  • Nolan appearing right behind Art is pure Nightmare Fuel... until he reveals he's brought a six-pack of beer to go drinking with his old buddy. That said, the second they get to a secluded rooftop and start talking, it goes from funny to disturbing.
  • William is in top form after being missing from the last few episodes:
    • The episode has him, Mark, and Amber, go to Upstate U to visit a guy that William has a massive crush on, which is mutual. How massive? He spends the entire car ride to the university (implied to a long while) doing nothing but praising Rick's incredible features. It doesn't end until they're literally on campus and Rick actually shows up.
    • William's reaction to figuring out that Mark is Invincible; around Amber and Rick he is amazingly calm and collected but the second they're gone he goes into full-blown Freak Out mode at the idea his best friend is a superhero. Naturally he manages to turn it around to focus on himself:
William: And you never told me!
    • He repeatedly demands the Mark to take him flying or he'll tell everyone he's Invincible. Mark, in a foul mood because of being on the outs with Amber, grabs William and flies him out the window in an attempt to invoke Be Careful What You Wish For before flying back four seconds later. It doesn't work and William is instead ecstatic, asking if he can try on the Invincible costume.
  • In an incredibly dark and tense moment, William mentioning the fling he had with the now-Reaniman Rick while trying to get through to him. To Sinclair's casual disgust.
  • In The Stinger, Matt and a friend go grave digging, based on the friend wanting to drink Schnapps from the Immortal's skull so that he can get his powers. Why? Because Reddit said so!
Mauler Twin: Don't believe everything you read on the internet, kids!

    We Need To Talk
  • Nolan practicing an attempt to explain to Mark how he murdered the Guardians is funny, showing that he's an awkward dad even when he's trying to explain his vile deeds.
  • Robot, the real one, comes personally in a container with robotic spider legs to inspect the Mauler Twins' clone body. He uses the legs to give them a quick little applause when they guess who he is. He then completes the clone that made the guess stating that he is likely the original. This causes him to bear a smug smile while the other one glances at him irritatingly.
    • He first states that he's impressed with their work on the clone, making the Twin's give sly glances to each other. Then Robot lists several intrusions in the body that would have allowed them to control it and their faces turn to shocked frowns, as though someone caught them stealing cookies.
Robot: Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I prefer to be the only person in control of my body.
      [Twins glance at each other]
Robot: Please. I would have been disappointed if you hadn't tried.
  • The Black Comedy during the Robot's brain copying, mostly thanks to the commentary of the Mauler Twins.
  • Rex Splode pulls a bunch of milk cartons out to drink. When Monster Girl tells him that she is lactose intolerant, Rex tells her that he filled them with beer. Kate notes that he wasted a LOT of milk.
  • Robot, or Rudy now, is surprisingly forthcoming with what he did and even why, which freaks Rex out to no end
Rex: You're ruining my childhood, and that's hard, because it already SUCKED!
    • Rex is only more freaked out after Rudy reveals why he specifically chose to become a younger version of Rex: to get closer to Monster Girl, who was interested in Rex.
Rex: What? Wait, what!? Oh my Go-. I don't even know how to feel about tha-. God dammit Robot! Will you please stop fucking me up!?
  • D. A. Sinclair hasn't recovered from his injuries and can only communicate through grunts. His swollen, bruised nose and lips are also funny to look at.
    Sinclair: (Mumbling)
Cecil: Shut it! I feel dirty even talking to you.
  • Omni-Man, realizing that Cecil is about to hit him with a giant Wave-Motion Gun satellite. And reacts in an irritated, indignant manner.
  • Rex Splode's reaction to Omni-Man wrecking the Kill Sat.
Rex: (Exasperated more than anything) What the fuck is going on today?
  • In a moment of Black Comedy, the camera cuts away from Omni-Man ripping a Reanimen in half to the GDA staff wincing at it.
  • The moment before the Immortal gets resurrected is worth a laugh or two, just from how it happens. The Immortal doesn't wake back up on his own... so one Mauler just beats on his chest, justifying it by saying Frankenstein needed a jumpstart to come to life. The other ends up listing bullet points for why the analogy sucks in a nitpicky, almost nerdy way. It's only just short of a Seinfeldian Conversation in a fairly serious moment.
Mauler Twin 1: Even Frankenstein needed an extra kick to come to life!
Mauler Twin 2: One, he's not Frankenstein. Two, it was lightning, and not... whatever you're doing. And three, it was only in the movie version?
Mauler Twin 1: I know, but this also feels good! WAKE UP YOU USELESS MURDERED IDIOT!
  • The Immortal promptly wakes up literally screaming in a berserk rage, tears the control collar straight off when the Twins activate it and flies through the warehouse roof searching for Omni-Man. The way they go from smug to absolutely terrified is blackly hilarious.
Mauler Twin 1: (gazing through the hole ripped in the ceiling) Robot gave us bad schematics.
    Mauler Twin 2: No kidding.
    • The Mauler Twin's reaction to The Immortal's post-resurrection rage is funny all on its own, as they realize how much trouble they are in and start slowly backing up with hands up in submission while Immortal is screaming for Omni-Man's head.
    • There's also the fact that The Immortal doesn't care about the fact that the Mauler Twins revived him in order to make him their brainwashed slave because he's that pissed at Omni-Man.
  • The idea that Booth is a Viltrumite.

    Where I Really Come From
  • During his beatdown of Mark, Omni-Man rants about how they can show humanity that they "can become a part of something better... or die." Not funny on its own, but the beat is so long before the "or die" part and his delivery so matter-of fact, it seems almost like he's tacking it on as an afterthought.
  • Cecil causally reveals that the GDA adds a chemical to tap water that inhibits the ability to see certain light frequencies, which they use to keep unauthorized people from seeing what goes on in their R&D lab.
  • Will accidentally reveals to Eve that Mark is Invincible, but to his surprise, she already knows.
  • Will assumes that Eve's powers are to multiply herself, and Eve is frustrated he thought she was Dupli-kate. She describes herself as "the pink one", and Amber responds with "Oh, right. Of course.", as if she didn't know which one Eve was either.
  • Allen revealing that if he had done his job right, they would have warned Earth about the Viltrumite. Though Mark does comment that he probably would've told his dad and thus the warning would've been All for Nothing anyway. Allen can't catch a break.
  • At the very end of the episode, while Allen the Alien and Mark are discussing what happens next, Allen asks him what the plan is. And after a brief montage of all the villains and other powerful entities yet on the loose...
Mark: ... finish High School, I guess!
    Allen: Oh, alright... sounds good!
    *Beat, cut to black*
Allen: ... what is High School?

Atom Eve Special

  • It turns out Kill Cannon has a history of getting bodied by newly formed kid heroes. The only positive for him you can say in this episode is that he puts up a little bit more of a better fight as Atom Eve's first actual villain then he did Invincible.
  • During the montage of Samantha's early childhood, when she and her mom are at that mother's group, toddler Samantha is staring at the floor while two boys on either side of her try to figure out what she's looking at.
  • When Samantha is taken to Erickson's facility, she wakes up with high-tech bracelets designed to contain her powers strapped to her hands. When she breaks out of them easily, Erickson's scientist sheepishly reminds him that he said the restraints were purely theoretical.
  • The ending, after all of the drama of the special, has the show asking "Where was Mark Grayson During All This?", as if he’s the most important person in it.

Season 2

A Lesson For Your Next Life
  • The Running Gag where a character pauses before saying Invincible's name. Note that it seems to be the show trolling the audience by making it seem the episode is about to drop the Title Card; but there's no In-Universe reason for the Dramatic Pause.
  • The evil Invincible and Omni-Man engage in a lot of weirdly casual conversation as they brutally kill the resistance members, like Nolan complaining about how he's hungry because he had to skip lunch to kill rebels and Mark glibly explaining that he learned how to break necks without outright killing people by practicing it on protestors in the same tone as an athlete discussing a new technique.
  • After Eve gets her neck snapped by Mark and Robot is left to die by Omni-Man, Nolan, in an uncaring tone, tells the resistance since they've rebelled against them, they have to kill them all, leading to this gem.
Evil Omni-Man: Hi, since you were all part of the Resistance, we need to kill you.
    Alternate Angstrom: MURDERERS!
    Evil Omni-Man: Ah, a volunteer.
    • The best part is that right before Mark tries to kill him, Angstrom defiantly stands up to the former heroes while dramatic music plays as he swears they'll pay for what they've done... only for Nolan to tell his son to wrap it up because he missed lunch to put down a riot in Bangkok and he's hungry.
  • When we see the Maulers again, they're trying unsuccessfully to make peace with Pete, the guard they beat up when Robot busted them out back in season one, in order to cajole him into giving them a better meal during lunchtime. Pete, for his part, is not open to the idea and just enforces his new rule of forcing the Maulers to back away from the door and turn around so they can't grab him through the armhole again.
  • A new supervillain named Giant shows up wrecking havoc and the Guardians of the Globe go to fight him, only to quickly notice that he's babbling like a lunatic about wanting to be made president of America and to be an astronaut when he grows up. A quick examination from Robot leads to the realization that despite his kaiju size, Giant has the mental state of an eight year old, meaning the Guardians are beating up a literal kid, which they aren't enthused about.
  • As Angstrom Levy is having a mental breakdown at the end because of the accident, shrieking and ranting about how Invincible is evil and how he needs vengeance, the surviving Mauler is just kind of nodding along with it and trying to explain that Levy needs to go a hospital, all while he himself is missing half his face. When Angstrom doesn't listen and teleports away, the Mauler just shrugs and limps off while bitching and moaning about how he's totally never working as a henchman again.

In About Six Hours I Lose My Virginity To A Fish
  • All of Shapesmith's godawful attempts at pretending to be human, like constantly mentioning how he was totally born on Earth or insisting that he has a three-chambered heart.
    • The thing that gets him fired from NASA is when the director of the agency tries to politely ask about his mental health in the washroom (which Shapesmith calls a "urination chamber"), only for Shapesmith to instantly break down sobbing and begging for his life because he thinks he's going to be executed for failure.
    • At one point Shapesmith eats a frozen pizza at his apartment… by casually reaching into his fridge and taking a bite out of the still frozen solid food.
  • As the Guardians fight the Lizard League, Bulletproof asks if the sort of enemies they fight are always this weird. Shrinking Rae confirms they are.
  • When Invincible goes to Midnight City, he discovers there's a jarring shift from day to night when entering the city limits thanks to the curse it's under. He proceeds to fly back and forth to see the sky change from night to day over and over while giggling like a doofus until Cecil irritably tells him to quit playing tourist.
  • As Mark flies into Midnight City, he passes by the water tower that Darkwing tied two criminals to for interrogation just before his death back in the first episode. It now has the skeletons of those two crooks hanging off it, since nobody but Darkwing knew they were there. Oops.
  • Mark says that Darkwing was at his 12th birthday party. It isn't explained if this was a normal thing superheroes do in this setting or if it was just a favor due to Nolan being friends with Darkwing at the time, but it is still an amusing detail.
  • Night Boy's weird insistence on being called Darkwing's "assistant" and not his sidekick. The voices in his head tell him sidekick is a demeaning term.
    • Mark's immediately concerned and worried expression on realising that Night Boy is Hearing Voices is both hilarious and heartwarming, with his demeanour becoming much more cautious as he realises how messed-up Night Boy is.
  • Rex walking in on Kate and Immortal getting it on in the showers at Guardians HQ and promptly freaking out.
  • Mark impresses Amber with a date to Las Vegas (he wanted to go to Paris, but Amber has to be back at work in an hour and he can't fly fast enough to get to Europe and back in that timespan without Amber's skin being shredded off by the g-forces, so he settles for the fake Eiffel Tower in Vegas). He then gets called in by Cecil mid-date and flies off to deal with it… before sheepishly flying back to a concerned Amber, remembering that he still has to fly her back to work.
  • Mark's Freak Out when Cecil tells him he has to prevent war between the US and Atlantis by (symbolically) marrying their queen (who refers to Mark as "Son of He Who Slayed My Husband). Followed shortly by Mark trying very awkwardly to explain to the Atlanteans that he has a girlfriend and doesn't feel comfortable with marriage yet.
  • Mark has to face trial by combat with something called the Depth Dweller deep underwater. Much bellowing and ominous rumbling later, up pops... an adorable little seahorse critter. Mark duly puts it in a half-hearted chokehold... only for the REAL Depth Dweller to appear. The seahorse was just "bait" as used by Anglerfish.
  • One of the last scenes of the episode is the Lizard League convalescing in their headquarters (which is located in a swamp identical to the Legion of Doom's base) after getting the crap kicked out of them by the Guardians. Lord Lizard is in the midst of giving them a speech about how them getting beat up was totally his plan all along and that they're totally a big deal as villains irregardless of what social media says about them. His speech ends with him getting his brains blown out by King Lizard to retake command of his organization.
  • In the universe Angstrom visits in The Stinger, Cecil and Donald are women for some reason. While Cecil actually looks noticeably different, Donald looks almost exactly the same but with long hair.

    This Missive, This Machination!
  • Debbie's last bit of advice when dropping Mark off at college.
    Debbie: And don't do drugs.
Mark: Would they even... work on me?
Debbie: You do not need to find out.
  • The continuation of Season 2's trend of playing with the Title Card.
Narrator: His mistake led him to Mark Grayson, a half-human, half-Viltrumite sympathetic to the coalition cause. Because sometimes, to change the entire universe, you have to be...
  • When Allen and Telia are about to engage in some sex, a Lemony Narrator (voiced by Paul F. Tompkins) shows up, unnerved by the fact tentacles were going to be involved before deciding to change the scene to Mark and Amber, preparing to see them in their college studies... Only to cut to the two reaching for condoms as they were about to have sex as well. With nowhere else to narrate without onscreen sex, the narrator is stuck narrating outside of Allen's bedroom as he decides to commentate on Allen's cat. All while the sounds of Allen and Telia having sex continue in the background.
  • Rex gets into a public fight with Kate and continues to be his usual dick self. Highlights including that he's not a love cheat any more and his response when Kate outright calls him a jerk.
  • Shapesmith continues to fail at pretending to be human, as he walks into the gym proudly announcing his intent to "run while remaining stationary" (i.e., jog on a treadmill) and proceeds to stand backwards on a treadmill and run in place without turning it on.
    Rex: ....Where are you from!?
  • Robot and Monster Girl's date consists of having to trick their way into an R-rated movie since the ticket booth worker obviously thinks they're kids (with Rudy getting into a debate with the man about how "parental guidance" wouldn't actually make the content kid appropriate) and getting food at Burger Mart, where Rudy expects there to be a waiter and is confused when Amanda informs him otherwise.
  • William answers the door thinking it's Amber coming to speak to Mark. What he actually finds is apparently... Seance Dog. William immediately shuts the door, covers himself in a blanket, and tells Mark it's for him.

    It's Been A While
  • After learning his father is still alive and on Thraxa, his patience is gradually eroded by the reveal that Omni-Man lied to bring him out to Thraxa and has a new wife. Finding out that he has a little brother is the straw that ultimately breaks the camel's back.
    Mark: You gotta be-
    • Just before, we have Mark's reaction to Nolan and his new wife doing a Thraxan kiss - by licking each other’s tongues.
  • At the end of the episode, General Kregg addresses an injured Mark and compliments him for his strength. Mark, having just gotten out of unconsciousness, proceeds to (or attempt to) tell Kregg to "go fuck yourself", only for Kregg to interrupt him mid f-bomb by punching him in the face, flick the blood off his hand, and then continue to speak to Mark as if nothing had happened.
  • After poisoning King Mauler, his clone immediately calls him out not for being an abusive, domineering Bad Boss, but for saying his cooking was terrible.
Mauler: My bourguignon is exquisite, you jackass. And so is my lemonade… when it's not laced with a modified micro toxin, that is.

This Must Come As A Shock
  • While Mark is helping the Thraxans repair their civilization, a bunch of Earth's heroes are in the middle of nowhere fighting;
OMNIPOTUS: BEHOLD! THE MIGHT OF! OMNIPOTUS!! TREMBLE! BEFORE MY! UNLIMITED! POWER!!!
    Immortal: (Beat) No.
    • The very fact that this threat with such unlimited power who requires so many heroes gathering to fight him is given the reverence of being a mere Cutaway Gag. The Immortal sounds much more annoyed by this guy than defiant or tense.
  • Cecil teleporting right next to Rex, appropriately while the latter is taunting Rudy about his relationship with Monster Girl.
Rex: Oh nooo! Is 8th grade prom canceled? Don't tell me- ("Zap" comes Cecil) AH! MOTHERFUCKER! (Catching his breath) Ah fuck! You know people try to kill us every single day, right? Just call! Please!
    • Cecil simply stares at Rex during his whole complaint, and just immediately goes ahead with his mission briefing the moment Rex is done talking.
  • Cecil cuts off the dramatic, long winded build up of Shapesmith's confession to the Guardians about being a Martian, stating that they all long knew that and that he wouldn't have let him join the team without knowing his background.
    • Black Samson only found out when Shapesmith turned to his true form in the previous fight with Omnipotus, and notices that he's the only one who didn't know via none of the other Guardians being shocked by this news. (Even Rex.)
Black Samson: You all knew that!? Son of a bitch...!
  • Shapesmith sharing his backstory and how he got to Earth; he basically knocked the real Rus Livingston out (hard enough to shatter the glass of his helmet), took his form, and just left him on the ground. 'smith seems to skim over this exact detail and tries to move on to how he was inspired to be a hero on Earth before Samson cuts him (and the dramatic music that was playing) off right there.
Shapesmith: I hitched a ride to Earth with your space people. A-and when I got here, I was inspired to do good, and met all of you-
Samson: Wait a second; What happened to the real astronaut? (The flashback pans down to a Sequid crawling to Rus before cutting to the clearly disapproving Guardians)
    Cecil: ...Well?
  • Shapesmith thought his people would find Rus before the Sequids would... the same people who were trying to kill the astronauts, as the Immortal pointed out.
  • Shapesmith making an (accurate) guess on what's on the Martian ship approaching Earth.
Shapesmith: One might assume .... well, uh one might guess, that m-maybe MAYBE, and this is a maybe, he possibly became... a possessed host for the singular and terrifying Sequid Hive Mind. I'm sssoooorrry...
    • Cecil's response and tone are utterly exasperated, as though even he couldn't believe the ridiculous crap he just heard.
Cecil: Sigh, okay soooo we have... God-knows how many of those things headed here. They possessed the real Rus Livingston and they're capable of possessing a million more of us. And... It's all your fault!
Shapesmith: Yes! You understand now! (Beat) Oh that's... bad.
Bulletproof: Hang on! You're gonna believe this guy!? He lied to us the whole time!
Shapesmith: No, before I was lying. Now i'm telling the truth, it's very different.
  • When Allen wakes up the first thing he comments on is how ripped he is now, inducing a brief verbal Beat from the composed Thaedus.
  • Thaedus' way of revealing his deepest secret. He tears his beard off, leaving behind a perfectly trimmed mustache, which Allen immediately realizes marks him as a Viltrumite.

     It’s Not That Simple
  • Despite… uh, everything about the situation, there’s something ghastly humorous about Rex slowly getting up while vomiting blood and with a fountain of blood gushing from his head. Particularly the animation and his droning groan.
    Rex: Fuuuuuuuuuuck....
  • King Lizard proceeds to monologue to Rex after he miraculously manages to get to his feet, only for a quick cut to Rex's pov to reveal he can barely hear the smug bastard, y'know because of the deafening gunshot and head trauma from said gunshot.
  • The aftermath of Rex defeating King Lizard after being SHOT IN THE HEAD.
    Guard: Are you okay?
Rex: (Panting, slurred) Why would you… that’s a weird question! I’m fine! (Blood spurts from his head, in plain view of GDA Faceless Mooks) Totally good! (Looking at the exposed bone from his torn off hand) Never... better? You know me! I’m practically-
(Smash Cut to title card… and then back to Rex. After a beat, he faints.)
  • During Allen The Alien and The Immortal's scuffle, what gets the biggest reaction out of Allen is when The Immortal pokes him in the eye.
  • Mark intervenes in Allen and The Immortal’s fight, explaining who Allen is to The Immortal through telepathy. After a few awkward seconds of silence, Allen points out that the neural implant which allows him to speak telepathically with Mark and The Immortal obviously doesn’t let Mark and The Immortal speak telepathically to each other, and all The Immortal saw was Mark floating there and silently staring at him. Allen then proceeds to translate for him, while adding a fair few snide words of his own.
  • Allen calls The Immortal a douchebag twice, and each time he checks with Mark afterwards to see if it was an expression humans had since he was going to keep using it.
  • Mark and Allen go to Mark's dorm room and to keep things private, Mark puts a sock on the door. This signal of 'leave me alone, having sex' is apparently universal, as Allen recognises it.
  • After Allen leaves, William hammers on the door asking to be let in and asks if Mark and Amber are done, apparently being under the impression that they've genuinely been in there having sex for hours.

    I’m Not Going Anywhere

    I Thought You Were Stronger
  • In general, the confrontation with the Levy is one of the most tense moments of the Grayson family's lives, but it's also juxtaposed with the ridiculously random and outlandish dimensions that the madman keeps sending Mark into. And Mark playing the Straight Man to the denizens of each one.
  • One of the alternate universes Mark gets sent to is one with a Captain Ersatz of Spider-Man called Agent Spider (as voiced by Josh Keaton, just to drive the reference home) fighting Prof. Ock (Who looks more like a squid than an octopus.) Agent Spider is immediately able to deduce Mark is from an alternate universe because he’s had a lot of experience with that, especially in recent years.
    • Just like in the comic, Mark is later seen talking to who is heavily implied to be the actual Batman about how lazy his name is. Though one can imagine his retort on the naming conventions of Mark's world.
  • The first alternate universe Mark is sent to appears to be one where dinosaurs didn't go extinct, and a trio of talking theropods discuss eating Mark while circling him like wolves. When Mark talks, one of the predators admonishes the others for still wanting to eat a sentient being.
    "Egad! It speaks!"
  • Angstrom's denial of actually saving Invincible is a showcase of just how disturbed he's become since the accident, buuuut it's also worth few chuckles just from the disbelievingly, disgusted way he says it.
Angstrom: No...! No. Nooooo no no. Nononono... I wouldn’t save him. Not me, not ever. Couldn’t. Wouldn't!
  • In one of the many times that Mark reappears in his home dimension, he jumps out of the portal and hits Levy with a very fiery-looking sniper rifle. While its already funny that Mark of all people is using a firearm as a bludgeon, the fact that it's actually a sniper rifle from Fortnite elevates the scene to another level of hilarity.note
    • Adding to this Fortnite themed humor is a post from the official Invincible Twitter account, which dubs Mark as "the guy from Fortnite".
    • A further bit of fridge hilarity comes from the fact that Mark's method of using the gun must be because either A) it's out of ammo B) it's too complex for him to figure out how to shoot or C) Mark has no idea how to use a gun, period. Getting shot with them? Sure, but his powers mean he has a safer and easier method of non-lethally subduing most enemies....which leads to further levels of Black Comedy when he wound up giving Angstrom a far more violent and messy death in a fit of rage than simply blowing his brains out.
    • If you think about it, because the two have appeared in Fortnite together, Mark technically did meet Spider-Man after all.
  • It's somber and a bit heartwarming in context, but out of it? Just the sight of Invincible suddenly seated in some random campfire for random folk.
  • Amongst the other dimensions Mark gets flung into is the one where OMNIPOTUS! comes from. And he's kicking the crap out of Mark demanding how the hell he even got there.
  • Future! Robot (Rex apparently) lightly calls out Future! Eve for possibly screwing with the timeline by confessing to Mark. Eve is too exhausted to stand for it.
    Eve: Ugh, shut up Rex!
  • Minor one, but the Pentagon has a sign that reads "park in the rear." The rear...of a Pentagon...

Other

  • The official Twitter's weekly Running Gag of someone saying the new episode posters need more Allen. For example, for the Season 1 finale.
  • "I'M GOING TO MAKE LIFE RUE THE DAY IT THOUGHT IT COULD GIVE OMNI-MAN LEMONS! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?! I'M THE MAN WHO'S GONNA BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN! WITH THE LEMONS!" (spoilers for the Season 1 finale.)
  • The YouTube video juxtaposing Omni Man beating up his son with Alex Jones' infamous"Gay frogs" rant. It just fits perfectly.
  • The Season 2 teaser features Mark going out to lunch with Allen the Alien, where Allen asks where Mark has been lately. When Mark, portraying the crew of the show, talks about how he's been hard at work producing the season, Allen believes that he's making it up and gets impatient when Mark doesn't say when exactly it's coming out.
Mark: The world will get more Invincible in uh....late 2023.
Allen: Alright! Okay, I'll take it! Late 2023, perfect, sure! (takes a sip of his drink as the show's title appears) So 2023, is that like one of your years? You know our planets, they all have different systems of keeping track of time. Like, they go around their stars at different speeds. But the way you said that number makes it sound soon. Is it soon? I really want it to be soon.
