Mirai Yume Academy is an immersive Danganronpa roleplay hosted on Discord. The roleplay is divided into rounds, each of which with their own individual characters, lore, and overall storyline, though the rounds all share the same base storyline.
A number of player-controlled characters, each of which possessing an Ultimate talent, find themselves in Mirai Yume Academy, a school which is set up similar to Danganronpa's own Hope's Peak Academy. Before they know it, they're met with Monokuma, the school's self-proclaimed headmaster and a representation of the mastermind, who presents the situation before them: they're trapped for the rest of their lives. Should they want to get out, they must commit the perfect murder - kill another student and make it through a trial to discuss the case, all without the other students catching them. Furthermore, one of the students in this school - or wherever else this killing game should take place - is the very mastermind who controls Monokuma, hiding in plain sight.
These rounds typically last a month to two months, in which six cases will happen: five murder cases and a sixth case devoted to discovering the mastermind.
This is a list of all the characters featured in Danganronpa 4: A New Hope, the first round of Mirai Yume Academy. Note that this is limited to characters whose creators explicitly allowed them to be on this page, and is by no means a comprehensive list.

A shining hero, invincible against all kinds of danger! Zoro is the poster-child of bravery and toughness, vowing to protect everyone! He's always happy, always strong, and always 100% heterosexual! Don't mind his horrified screams, suppressed panics, and flirts with guys - that doesn't exist! Nor does Zoro's abusive and toxic home life - he's fine! Nothing can take Zoro Ryuko down!- Absurd Phobia: Two of them. Eggs and spoons, both of which serving as callbacks to previous incarnations of this character.
- Abusive Parents: Regularly beat Zoro throughout the years, to the point where he's Covered with Scars under his clothes.
- Alcoholic Parent
- Antagonistic Offspring: for good reason.
- Armoured Closet Gay: Practically punctuates every sentence towards another male with "no homo". He is very vocal about not being gay and not wanting to appear as such.
- Artistic License – Gun Safety: If Zoro were to ever get his hands on a gun, God help anyone within a 50 mile radius.
- Calling the Old Man Out: One particular event in his backstory. It doesn't end well, to say the least.
- Close to Home: Has trauma-based issues with several rooms and locations he runs into in his various depictions - universally speaking, school settings, hospitals, bedrooms, and kitchens.
- He also tends to get caught up in himself and only get pulled out by the trauma response to what he's saying, often when threatening physical violence on another.
- Closet Punishment: Locked in his bedroom for hours up to days at a time.
- Curtains Match the Window: Red hair and eyes.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Abusive parents and an arguably toxic friend group.
- Denied Food as Punishment: Him and Saki wouldn't get enough food while locked up to go around, and Zoro would often be the one to go hungry.
- Digging Yourself Deeper: Often when confronted with his unintentionally-homophobic comments.
- Emancipated Child: In the killing game he could be considered this, but it's even more true after it ends.
- Emotion Suppression: Refuses to acknowledge his fears.
- Genre Blindness: Is surprised when people start getting murdered, in a murder mystery setting, within a [[Deadly Game murder game.
- Internalized Categorism: His homophobia and transphobia stem from his friends and family convincing him such things are bad.
- Lethally Stupid: People often ask him how he hasn't gotten himself or anyone else killed yet.
- Manchild: The spitting image of an immature, idiotic, yet sweet and charming guy.
- Screams Like a Little Girl: It's sort of a tradition that in every rendition of Zoro's character, he "screams like a pussy" at the sight of the first body.
- Selective Obliviousness: In denial about everything even tangentially related to his Dark and Troubled Past.
- Shed the Family Name: In any story where he lives long enough to get married, he takes the other person's name.
- The So-Called Coward: Determined to prove he isn't this.
- Strict Parents Make Sneaky Kids: His talent is parkour, for fuck's sake.
- They're Called "Personal Issues" for a Reason: Refuses to let himself be vulnerable in this way, thinking it'll make him weak.
- Transparent Closet: So adamant about supposedly not being gay that people tend to question his sexuality because of it.
- Why Did You Make Me Hit You?: Often blamed for "causing" his parents to abuse him.

Esteemed guests, I would like to introduce to you… the stunning, the gorgeous, the out-of-this-world beauty… Otsune Sterling! …At least, that’s what she’d like me to say. While it’s true that her looks are angelic, she’s also quite the human disaster, adopting human lungs and doing terrible space karaoke in her free time, with a sugar obsession to boot. She boasts 2.4 million Instagram and 351,000 Twitter followers, where she posts photos of herself, with an extra 510,000 on Youtube, where she occasionally uploads short vlogs and makeup tutorials. Alternatively called the Ultimate Instagram Model, or by the name Sunny Sterling.- Apologetic Attacker: Kills former best friend Iori Sakuraba for her own escape, but feels the sting of regret immediately afterwards, apologizing as he slips away.
- Aggressive Categorism: Standoffish towards other girls at first, viewing them as competition before getting to know them. This is largely due in part to her belief in I Am Not Pretty.
- Bleed 'Em and Weep: Sobs in front of Iori’s corpse. Related to Apologetic Attacker.
- Brainless Beauty: While decently adept in social matters, she’s failing all her classes, and feels terrible about it.
- Death by Disfigurement: Beauty and dignity destroyed, Otsune dies utterly humiliated in front of a crowd in a theatrical execution.
- Elevator Action Sequence: Commits murder during a very unpleasant elevator ride.
- Everything's Better with Sparkles: Dons a sparkly ‘little black dress’ and gold hoop earrings on most occasions.
- Fun Size: 4’10.5” (148.5 cm), and absolutely adorable.
- Hollywood Thin: Weighs less than ninety pounds, and finds herself in the Instagram spotlight.
- I Am Not Pretty: Despite being a popular Instagram model with the face and body to show for it, she is terribly insecure about her looks and personality, and seeks validation through social media and telling others how lovely she is (hoping it will convince both them and herself).
- Inferiority Superiority Complex: She craves attention to confirm that she is, indeed, worth something.
- Ironic Fear: Terrified of dolls while looking like one.
- Last Request: If Zoro dies, she’ll kill him.
- Little Black Dress: It’s little, it’s black, and boy, does it ever sparkle.
- Long Hair Is Feminine: Although her hair remains up in a ponytail most of the time, it falls past her elbows, and she’s most certainly stereotypically feminine.
- Minor Living Alone: Ran away from home at sixteen and lives in a small apartment, supporting herself with that sweet sweet sponsorship moola.
- Missing Mom: Left her with her father shortly after birth.
- One Head Taller: Zoro is 5’10”, and she’s only 4’10.5”.
- Rose-Haired Sweetie: An outgoing pink-haired girl that serves as a love interest on many occasions (in this particular instance, to Zoro Ryuko). However, she’s not always so sweet, being prone to getting into arguments and swearing like a sailor.
- Shovel Strike: Kills Iori Sakuraba by repeatedly bashing him with a shovel.
- Sympathetic Murderer: The surviving cast is torn. She was a friend, but a friend that killed another.
- Sweet Tooth: Hopelessly addicted to sugar. She doesn’t eat a whole lot, but you’d best believe nearly everything she does is full of the stuff.
- Take My Hand!: Clings to Zoro before being dragged to her death.
- The Napoleon: Tiny and easily provoked. Has cursed out Hoshiko Tachibana on numerous occasions.
- Tsundere: She loves him, but she’s way too embarrassed to say it. What does that mean? Time to fall back on obviously false irritation! W-We’re just friends, you idiot!
- This also applies to her behaviour in general—frequently acting irritable and stuck-up, concealing a heart of gold.
- Weight Woe: Eats little, thinking she can always be skinnier.
- When You Coming Home, Dad?: Her father is obsessed with work and money, rarely being home, and, while she was living with him, exploited her through the entertainment and modelling industries for cash.
- Your Makeup Is Running: Tsun’s arms and cheeks are no strangers to runaway mascara during cry-fests, and Zoro must have more than a few ruined jackets by now.

Ultimate Paleontologist
Mirai- Badass Bookworm: Though she has limited physical abilities, she sure can wield a baton.
- Berserk Button:
- Mirai hates being referred to by her name as the other characters know it. She will often ignore or later act hostile towards the other students for referring to her as such.
- She cannot stand when other students are lying or keeping secrets from her. She will often go above and beyond to eliminate this chance, to the extent where she abandons taking care of herself in order to write down everything she can observe in the school.
- Blind Without 'Em: Thanks to a visual impairment. Her vision isn't great even with 'em.
- Determinator: Mirai refuses to give up on her goals, until and even beyond the very end. In the third trial, Mirai is also extremely resistant of her guilt and fate, to the extent of lying - something she adamantly refuses to do or even respect earlier in the killing game - and later running away from her execution.
- Fake Kill Scare: Knocks herself out by hitting her head on the kitchen counter, in a scene which looks to be related to the other instances of [[TapOnTheHead Taps on the Head in the current case.
- Hypocrite: Condemns other students for lying and deceiving the other students, though deception is a major reason she isn't caught. Not only did Mirai lie about her alibi, but she claims that she is looking for Kaoru while actually being in the process of killing them, and because Miyage trusts her, he believes it.
- Idiot Hair: Hidden under her hat.
- Nerd Glasses: Half-framed hornrim glasses.
- Power Hair: Save for a section in the front.
- Principles Zealot: For telling the truth.
- Stereotypical Nerd: A child genius, who keeps to herself, and who dons a button-up shirt with short sleeves paired with suspenders and glasses.
- Stoic Spectacles: Though hers are fairly large.
- The Stoic: Throughout much of the story, it seems that Mirai has no emotions. Of course, this is later proven wrong, with the very emotional reactions she has to what she causes.
- Team Mom: Mirai can often be seen cooking breakfasts for the others and otherwise ensuring they eat properly, and has quite the knack for taking care of the others.
- Was It All a Lie?: Several characters ask her this in the third trial, or more just assume it was.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Brutally kills two people, attempts to kill a third, drugs the entire school (twice), and non-fatally attacks and injures several more members of the cast. All to unveil the truth.
- Will Not Tell a Lie: Mirai is noted for her hatred of lies and liars. As such, it's only a given that she will never tell lies.
- She breaks this rule in the third trial, lying about her alibi.
- Workaholic: To the point of, for example, nearly working herself to death by overexertion in order to find out what year it is.
Ultimate Hunter

- Don't Sneak Up on Me Like That!: Miyage accidentally shot and killed a friend in the past due to flashbacks caused by physical contact.
- Hates Being Touched: Due to his rapist in the past.
- Idiot Hair: Two of them.
- Sweet Tooth: The healthiest thing Miyage can be seen eating of his own free will is strawberries.
Ultimate Assassin
ItsuwariUltimate Liar
Kaoru- Ambiguous Gender: Kaoru is insecure of their gender, leading them to hide it.
- Idiot Hair: And an utterly huge one at that.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Tortured, made to bleed out, and suspended above the auditorium stage.
Ultimate Indie Game Developer
Ameko- Chuunibyou: Ameko presents herself as a witch known as Unmei. It's revealed later in Chapter 1 that this is a coping mechanism in regards to her father's death and her own near-death experiences. She drops the act soon after.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Electrocuted. Haia later cuts off her head and hands for good measure.
- Do Not Call Me "Paul": Ameko insists on being called Unmei, and becomes irritated otherwise.
- After the events of Chapter 1, she instead insists on being called Ameko, treating Unmei as more of an Embarrassing Nickname.
- Important Haircut: Given one during Chapter Two, from long pigtails into a bob. Doubles as an Intimate Haircut, with Hideki doing the cutting.
- Robe and Wizard Hat: As part of her costume as Unmei.
- Shout-Out: Ameko's friends outside of the killing game dub themselves "The Troll Slaiyers".
- Sweet Tooth: Chocolate cornets, her Trademark Favorite Food. She named her stuffed owl, her self-proclaimed familiar, after them and everything.

Round 4:
Ultimate Dungeon Master
ChboiiChboii survives the killing game and escapes the school.
- Spell My Name With An S: The spelling of Chboii's name often flips back and forth between "Chboii" and "Chboi". Both are presented as valid options, though most if not all players seem to spell it either way with no spelling preference.
Ultimate Pharmacist
MerrionMerrion survives the killing game and escapes the school.
- Eye Scream: Merry is more than happy to say why they lost their eye: their brother splashed bleach on it. They don't even have qualms about removing the eyepatch, to reveal a bloody, gory mess.
- Labcoat of Science and Medicine: A part of their uniform.
- Plague Doctor: Carries the mask of one on their hip.
Ultimate Cheerleader
TsubakiTsubaki is executed in Chapter Two.
- No Indoor Voice: Tsubaki is known to be very loud, often shouting indoors for little to no reason other than to keep up her own energy and facade of having her sister's energy and spirit.
- It's to the point where all of her texts are IN CAPS. She drops this after finding out that her classmates would prefer otherwise, though.
- Pom-Pom Girl: Tsubaki is the Ultimate Cheerleader. She's also friendly responsible, and constantly enthusiastic.
- Sympathetic Murderer: Despite having gone as far as to cut her victim's body in half, Shion's intentions for committing murder were only to save her sister and her dream before anyone could pull the plug on her (as detailed in her second motive). She's also genuinely apologetic about attempting to sacrifice everyone else, even if for her sake.
- Theme Twin Naming: Tsubaki (camellia) and her twin sister Shion (tatarian aster) are named after flowers.
- Twin Switch: Tsubaki is revealed in the second chapter to secretly be Shion, pretending to be her twin sister.
- This reveal also comes with a drastic personality switch as she drops the act.
- Wham Line: Just as she's being convicted of the second murder, Tsubaki claims once more that she didn't do it... only in third-person, setting up the revelation of her true identity.Monokuma: Correct! The killer of Yukimura Shiro was... Arisugawa Tsubaki!Tsubaki: ...She didn't do it!
Ultimate TV Show Host
StanStan is murdered in Chapter Four by Valerian Raymond.
- Shout-Out: The basis of Stan's character was intended to be a reference to Steve Harvey, and Family Feud as a whole.
Ultimate Pyrotechnician
IsamuIsamu is murdered in Chapter Five by Xiaoping Jiang.
- Crazy-Prepared: Isamu mentally - and sometimes physically - prepares himself for practically anything that may come for him. He can frequently be seen thinking up literally every possibility that may happen, no matter how improbable. It's even to the extent where he, for example, carries a mirror on him at all times just in case someone might be following him.
- Forgets to Eat: Noted for bad eating habits, which only get worse throughout the killing game. He often has to be reminded, again and again.
- Ironic Fear: The Ultimate Pyrotechnician is scared of fire.
- Please Kill Me if It Satisfies You: Lead to believe by the fifth motive that he deserves to be killed by someone. As such, he plans his own death to allow his friend Xiaoping to escape and find his sister.
- Precision F-Strike: Isamu doesn't take to the results of the third trial, and Muimina's subsequent character shift, too well.
- Survivor Guilt: For the death of his dad. It's made pretty obvious early on that Isamu has PTSD.
Ultimate Matchmaker
MinaMina is executed in Chapter Three for the murder of Tsuyu Koizumi.

- Classy Cravat: He can often be seen adjusting the cravat when troubled.
- Consummate Professional: Valor is practically obsessed with the idea of seeming professional and emotionless.
- Shock Collar: Forced to wear one as a minor punishment for breaking the rule against being outside of dorms at night, chosen as a nod to his abusive past.

HikaruUltimate Indie Creator
Happy- Brown Bag Mask: Happy is noted for always wearing a mask: a white paper plate with a smiley face drawn onto it. It's even the basis of her name.
- Character Overlap: Happy was originally created for an original project of the player and converted to the Danganronpa format.
- Hikikomori
Ultimate Aviator
Hanzai- The Nicknamer: Hanzai refers to people by silly nicknames rather than their actual names. Sometimes they're shortened versions of their names, such as "Chi", "Senkie", and "Dev", though others are unrelated to their names, such as "Sunshine", "Gumdrop", and "Shortie".
Ultimate Aesthetic Blogger
AyumiUltimate Fantasy Novelist
KeoneUltimate Carnival Worker
Miki- Crappy Carnival: She got her talent working at the Traveling Dicksmasher Carnival.
- Shout-Out: Miki's character is one giant reference to Mickey Mouse, down to her name, with Nezumi meaning "mouse".
- It's joked in the story that she has major contempt for either the character or the name.
Miki Nezumi: You haven’t heard of me? Miki Nezumi!
Enmei Nukoni: Mickey Mouse!
Miki Nezumi: (She turned to Enmei and gave him a look filled with hate and contempt.) Never, ever say that name.
Ultimate Frisbee Player
EnmeiUltimate Doctor
Hachi- Anime Catholicism: Hachi's very openly a devout catholic, from the heavy imagery of their design, to their insistance on not committing sins. The irony of this all is that, y'know, they kinda commit a bunch of sins, from worshiping a false idol, to condoning and assisting in running a fucking Killing Game.
- Expelled from Every Other School: Hachi punched one of their University Professors during a class. They obviously got expelled.
- Lenon Specs: They wear a pair of these with red-tinted lenses.
- Hospital Hottie: Listen... Hachi's creator doesn't know how to make characters that aren't hot...
This is a list of all the characters featured in Danganronpa Exchange: Divine Retribution, the seventh round of Mirai Yume Academy. Note that this is limited to characters whose creators explicitly allowed them to be on this page, and is by no means a comprehensive list.
Ultimate Local Hero
[blurb]- Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Her execution plays on this — specifically, she's the 50-foot whatever.
- Bleed 'Em and Weep: After murdering Neve, she spends the rest of the night crying, and according to Word of God she only falls asleep an hour or two before the morning announcement.
- Chronic Hero Syndrome: Given her talent, she spends a lot of her time helping the friends she's made during the killing game!
- Samaritan Syndrome: ...So, especially in regards to Chapter 4, she feels awful about the ones she can't save. It's exactly why she ends up becoming the Chapter 4 killer, since she'd rather sacrifice herself than let everyone else slowly die of starvation after Jisoo and Belle already died.
- Cuddle Bug: Especially after the first couple of days.
- Due to the Dead: Positions Neve's body in a more peaceful way after her death, and leaves purple hyacinths as an apology.
- Hero Does Public Service: Essentially the reason behind her talent, given that the Helping Hands were formed just to do public service around their town.
- The Idealist: To the point of having believed she could dig a way out with a toy shovel in Chapter 1.
- In-Series Nickname: Ruru, and "Young flame" from Neve. Neve also briefly calls her Ru during the chapter 4 murder, and it's later used on the relationship chart.
- Idiot Hair: Two at the top of her head, looking either like a heart or a seedling.
- My Greatest Failure: She accidentally got someone locked up for shoplifting when they'd been doing so out of necessity, and it hits her hard when she remembers this after people start dying.
- Plucky Girl: Retains her cheerfulness and her optimism even as the game progresses.
- Pointless Bandaid: Across the bridge of her nose.
- Shout-Out: Her last name is a reference to Ensemble Stars!'s Chiaki Morisawa, the leader of a different Sentai-esque group.
- Someone Has to Die: Chapter 4's motive involves the participants being deprived of food and forced to go on daily runs until a murder occurs. After Hotaru and Neve both find out the other wanted to sacrifice themselves but didn't think that would end the motive, they work together instead, with Hotaru volunteering to be the murderer so Neve doesn't have to deal with the consequences of killing her.
- Sunny Sunflower Disposition: Her motif flower on the character roster is a sunflower.
- Tender Tears: Being a sensitive and empathetic person, she cries frequently over the course of the roleplay.
- The Hero: It's in the talent, and she's also the leader of the Helping Hands. Given that she wears red to represent this, she takes off all of her red garments after she murders Neve now that she no can longer consider herself one.
Ultimate Breakdancer
[blurb]- Ditzy Genius: Despite supposedly being really smart academically, literally everything else about him makes him a dumbass.
- Lovable Jock: It kinda explains itself. Strong boy, nice boy, dumb boy.
- You Monster!: As of his death, he was one, and openly admits it about himself, even if some others disagree.
- Afraid of Blood: In fact, he passes out at the sight of it.
- Afraid of Needles: Well, moreso anything sharp or hospital-related in general. which, ironically, led to his situation in the first place.
- Bad Liar: He couldn't even convince you his favorite color isn't green.
- The Ditz: Yeah.
- Fatal Flaw: He has a ton of mental bullshit and fears that he copes with terribly, often forcing himself to shove it all away with jokes in it's place.
- Forgets to Eat: Or just drinks smoothies instead.
- Hates Being Touched: It's not that he wouldn't like it, it's just his germaphobia is through the roof. This also played into him killing Camille, as she grabbed his hand - when he was already infected with a virus that not only changed his appearance, but threw his temper and rationality out the window.
- Shout-Out: He makes multiple references to his friends Teddy, Hiroki, Keaton, Jouya, Hanako, Kenma, Yutaka, and Noah, who all appeared in a previous round.
- Color Motif: Always white, gold, and black.
- Surfer Dude: Like, talks like a surfer sometimes, dude! Complete with all the rad nicknames!
- Guilt Complex: ...It's all his fault one way or another, right? (Spoiler alert, it's not.)
- Hair-Trigger Temper: But only during Chapter 4 and 5, after the virus had gotten to him much more than before. This is mostly coupled with the fact he never had a temper before this point, and thus had no way to figure out how to reel it in.
- He Who Fights Monsters: Because he has to prove to Ms. Furukawa he isn't one, right? He isn't, he can't be. (But he always will be in the end.)
- His Own Worst Enemy: Often ruins everything for himself, all the way down to making himself into the monster he feared to become. All because he was scared of medicine.
- Humans Are the Real Monsters: Not him, exactly, but Ms. Furukawa, his old therapist. She convinced him he was a demon and a monster, and attempted to kill him for it - at the wonderful age of 14. Who's the real monster here, Hanae?
- Shot at Dawn: No execution, no fancy voting, nothing. Just taking care of business. Just doing what needs to be done.
- Silent Credits: And with nothing else, there's silence. With only a nod in reply, Ghost levels the gun with his head. And he pulls the trigger. And with a crack, the boy slumps over, sickening orange blood pooling across the stones. And there’s nothing but the silence. The thick, heavy silence....Fujio Nishida has expired.
Ultimate Lucky Student
[blurb]- Action Fashionista: And somehow, her stiletto boots and off-the-shoulder coat never hinder her.
- Animal Motifs: Eagles, due to her last name.
- The Beautiful Elite: And boy, is she proud of it.
- Broken Heel: At one point in the convenience store, due to a fight with her cousin.
- Combat Stilettos: Often seen running and even fighting in stiletto boots.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Nastya was born in a wealthy mob-and-government family, where the former was kept a secret from everyone involved - including herself. This lead to paranoia - which led to her killing someone - which led to her getting put into a series of Franchise/Saw-esque death traps.
- Death Glare: Rather skilled at giving these out, especially towards Neve.
- Exposed to the Elements: Despite the large boots and parka, she's still wearing a crop top and booty shorts... as someone born and raised in Russia.
- Intimate Hair Brushing: With Ren.
- From Bad to Worse: The aftermath of her killing her uncle.
- Mother Russia Makes You Strong
- Pretty in Mink: The most distinctive part of her outfit, a large fur parka worn off the shoulders.
- Pretty Princess Powerhouse: Could be considered a princess with her noble background, and boy, does she kick ass.
- Rich Bitch: One who reveals herself to not necessarily a bitch, just blunt. Still, this applies.
- Yank the Dog's Chain: Her execution. She survives, albeit barely, and manages to get out... only to drop dead moments after due to her injuries.
Mirai Yume Academy as a whole contains these tropes:
- Anyone Can Die
- Big Bad
- Deadly Game
- Death by Irony: In the true Danganronpa fashion. Most, if not all, of the execution sequences are centered around a character's talent or some other prominent part of their character. Even some of the murder cases feature some level of irony surrounding the character or characters involved, be it interrogating and torturing the Ultimate Liar, one lover killing the other, or passing bleach off as milk to a character who is frequently seen drinking milk.
- Fire-Forged Friends: Several unlikely friendships have formed throughout the rounds. Everyone dying around you really seems to pull people together.
- Gilded Cage
