Danganronpa V2: Visceral Rift is the sixth round in the roleplay group Mirai Yume Academy. It ran from August 9 to September 24, 2019.

This is a list of all the characters featured in Danganronpa V2: Visceral Rift, the sixth round of Mirai Yume Academy. Note that this is limited to characters whose creators explicitly allowed them to be on this page, and is by no means a comprehensive list.

    Jouya Jougasaki 
Jouya Jougasaki

Ultimate Aquarium Keeper

The older twin of Ultimate Lucky Student Jouko Jougasaki and the son of renowned marine biologist Jotaro Jougasaki, Jouya is the driving force behind the fish-oriented blog justfishythings. He owns a (jokingly) self-proclaimed 69 fish (they're actually 42), offering tips on how to raise even breeds he's never raised before and promoting awareness on the latest happenings in regards to conservation and activism. Aside from this, he's friendly and cheerful even if a little awkward, and his biggest muscle is his heart.

The last of four victims in Chapter 3, murdered by Fujio Nishida.

  • Alliterative Name: Jouya Jougasaki.
  • Apologizes a Lot: Downplayed. While he doesn't apologize every time something goes wrong, he often does take responsibility for things that aren't his fault, like when Noah unintentionally upset Yutaka over them not knowing English.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Towards Jouko, being the older twin and all, although it extends to the others as well.
  • Belated Love Epiphany: Realizes only after his death that he had feelings for Noah.
  • Blood Is Squicker in Water: His body discovery plays off this.
  • Character Development: After pushing aside his own worries during Chapter 1 leads to them surfacing anyway through a panic attack after the trial, he starts to be more honest about his own feelings.
    • Also goes through Character Development in the afterlife, although this time he works on coming to terms with the fact that it isn't his fault he died.
  • Cowardly Lion: Easily startled, hates horror, and does most of his investigating through the EID and outside the crime scene itself, but steps up in trials up to making the accusations, otherwise sticks up for his loved ones, and doesn't go down without a struggle during his murder.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Quite literally turned into a doll and yeeted into a fishtank. To add insult to injury, unlike Fujio's other victims he was actually awake and alive for all of it, even if physically numb to most of the process.
  • Deus Exit Machina: To an extent, during Chapter 6 — having figured out the mastermind's identity, he's physically prevented by them from communicating this to the others in the afterlife until the trial. Specifically, Itsuki/Charles makes it so that he can't interact with most items in the afterlife and that every time he tries to speak a Google Translate-ish voice says "Bazinga." over it.
  • Ditzy Genius: Smart enough to figure out the larger half of the cases as well as who the mastermind is, and has a wide knowledge of fish, but he’s scatterbrained and forgets things easily.
  • Fatal Flaw: Jouya's willingness to help others means that he has a hard time sitting and waiting when the others are trying their best to find Teddy, which culminates in him following the second message he gets from Fujio posing as Teddy and dying as a result.
  • Fear of Thunder: According to invokedWord of God. Despite this, he's quite fond of rain on its own.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Teddy, Hiroki, Keaton and Noah.
  • In-Series Nickname: Jou from a good portion from the cast, Jou-kun from Jouko and occasionally Fishbrain from Noah.
  • Ironic Death: Not only does the Ultimate Aquarium Keeper drown in one of the aquarium’s fish tanks, but it’s only after he’s essentially mutilated to look like a mermaid.
  • It's All My Fault: Lapses into this after the first two trials, given that he'd outright accused the main suspects both times.
    • And once again, after he dies, especially since he has to watch many of his friends struggle to cope with the events of Chapter 3 afterwards. He stops blaming himself eventually.
  • Japanese Delinquents: Was technically one of these in the past, but with how little he was involved with Jouko's gang and how bad he felt about it anyway it doesn't really come up.
  • invokedNeutral Good
  • Messy Hair: Also under the beanie.
  • Nice Guy: Besides being a pacifist who can't bring himself to swear, Jouya at his core just wants to help others out, to the point of initially setting aside his own feelings to do so. Indeed, he does his damn best to make his friends happy, even writing down important things about the others to remember or remind them of so he doesn't forget.
  • Precision F-Strike: Doesn't swear beyond the occasional "damn" or "hell" until Chapter 3, when he finds out that Fujio murdered Teddy, Hiroki and Keaton, was almost going to kill Yutaka, and was going to kill Noah next.
    Jouya: [Kicks Fujio] You son of a bitch!
  • Shout-Out: Given how his first and last name start with ''Jo'', and how one of his fathers is a marine biologist named ''Jotaro''...
  • Sleep Cute: Gets into the habit of sleeping next to Noah to help with his insomnia, leading to several of these. Not only does it work, but it's the fact that Noah can't even fall asleep after the events of Chapter 3 that makes them both realize their feelings for eachother.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Specifically reading glasses.
  • Tender Tears: Even during Chapter 1, where he'd gotten teary-eyed frequently.
  • The Promise: Promises Jouko at the start of the game that he'll protect her and still look after himself. Dies anyway.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Although Mr. Blood is a plushie that's mostly just sentient when he shouldn't be, Jouya's terrified of the thing, and has been for as long as Jouko's had him.
    • He's also weak to horror in general, so his only experience in the dollhouse goes… badly, to say the least.

    Yori Kadokawa

Ultimate Ryokan Host

The world-renowned host of his family’s ryokan inn, KADOKAWA’S. On the surface, he is a polite and refined boy, always minding his manners and tending to the comforts and likes of others. However, it is quickly revealed that things are far darker underneath; he is the child of a devout cultist mother and an all-too-accepting father, being raised to believe he was the vessel for their god. He is the culprit of Chapter 5, murdering Yutaka and is executed by Monokaeru after the trial, ironically being killed by the god he was meant to hold within him.
  • Accidental Murder: He wasn’t entirely aware of himself when he murdered Yutaka. He remembered the motive presented to them at the time and then blacked out, coming back to his senses after they were long since dead.
  • Ambiguous Innocence: Because of his upbringing. He had watched countless murders and sacrifices growing up, therefore believing they were simply normal occurrences. Additionally, at first, he was quite excited about the concept of the killing game.
  • Bloody Horror: His execution. It was a mock ritual, though the summoning was very real. The god being summoned from within him came from his mouth, eventually blocking up his throat and then ripping apart his body when he finally got himself out.
  • Captain Oblivious: Because of his sheltered upbringing.
  • Character Development: After a long, long process of denial, he eventually learns to trust and put his faith in the people around him.
  • Chuunibyou: To a degree. He doesn’t believe he is a god himself but he does believe that he is the vessel for one.
  • Facial Markings: He paints various red designs on his face throughout the game. The most prominent are three pointed stripes on each of his cheeks.
  • Failed a Spot Check: He had taken a bite out of Yutaka’s arm, serving as damning evidence against him when nobody else alive could or would possibly do this.
  • Implausible Hair Color: His hair is white. However, it is simply bleached. He later redyes it back to his natural black.
  • Lack of Empathy: Because to his upbringing.
  • Paste Eater: Sort of. He had a diet consisting of nothing but raw meat and straight-up blood. While these are technically edible, they aren’t meant to be ingested this way.
  • Selective Obliviousness: When his peers tried to get him to see that his life had, essentially, been built up on a lie and that, y’know, life shouldn’t be lived that way, he simply tuned them out.
  • Tattoo as Character Type: He has eye-like tattoos on his forehead and around his neck. These tattoos are close to being a brand, signifying his role as the god’s vessel within the cult.
  • The Promise: To Noah. They promise to go hiking together when they get out.
    Noah: I guess hiking would be fun. Try to find the fuckin' highest mountain I can around here and just... climb. See what I can see. Betcha never done that, huh, Yori-chan?
    Yori: You climb mountains? Like a goat? Are you a goat, Noah-kun? I'm joking. No, of course I have never done such a thing. It sounds quite troublesome... but fulfilling, in a way. it would be nice to do that with you. Perhaps I will push you off the peak... I'm joking about that too.

    Hiroki Kajiwara

Don't let the edgy delinquent name and talent fool you - Hiroki is a massive goofball. A meme and pun aficionado, Hiroki's best feature is his humor, which he promptly uses to cover up everything he doesn't like about himself. That's right folks - ya boy's got crippling PTSD and self-esteem issues! Stemming from his past of being manipulated by his brother into joining a gang, Hiroki juggles a need to be a good person with debilitating anger issues and trauma.

He is the second of the four victims in Chapter Three, murdered by Fujio Nishida.

Yes, they’re not even 3 feet tall. Yes, they have the intelligence and maturity of a toddler. No, they are not ‘baby’, as they would say. Yutaka Kodama’s Twitter bio would likely say ‘lost the game’. Yu simply tries their best to make others smile, something they found increasingly hard to do with each murder. They’re inseparable from their eventual significant other, Kenma Hejira. Chapter 5 victim, murdered by Yori Kadokawa.
  • Apologetic Attacker: Yutaka attacked Yori first, under the pretense that if they got away with murder they would be able to change something in the past. Yutaka was apologetic about it to their end.
  • Bloody Horror: Yutaka became the new Flat Stanley. Being beaten with a meat tenderizer will do that to you.
  • A Bloody Mess: Yutaka and Kenma Hejira orchestrated a prank in which Yutaka pretended to be dead, with paint used for ‘blood’.
  • Book Dumb
  • Clear Their Name: Kenma framed themself for the murder of Park Jisung, though Yutaka believed for purely emotional reasons that Kenma didn’t commit the murder. They put their best effort into defending Kenma during the trial.
  • Closed Door Rapport: After Meili Yang’s execution, Yutaka tried their best to comfort Kenma by passing notes from under Kenma’s door due to the fact that Kenma didn’t want to see anyone.
  • Creepy Cemetery: Yutaka's place of death.
  • Death Wail: Upon finding Kenma's dead body.
  • The Dividual: Yutaka and Kenma are rarely seen apart. There was a span of several days where they were absolutely constantly holding hands.
  • Hot-Blooded
  • Face Doodling: A prank pulled on Yori Kadokawa.
  • Friendless Background
  • Last Kiss: Yutaka and Kenma finally agree to be significant others after far too long of romantic interaction, have a really sweet kiss, and then Kenma is murdered in the middle of that night.
  • Lonely Together: Both Yutaka and Kenma had very lonely childhoods, and stuck together when they kept losing friends to the killing game.
  • Lord Error-Prone
  • Opposites Attract: Yutaka is loud and causes chaos in an attempt to make people laugh, while Kenma is mute and causes chaos for their own satisfaction.
  • Please Wake Up: Happened as they were faced with Kenma’s death.
  • The Prankster: It's their talent.
  • The Promise: Yutaka promises Kenma that they will go home together, giving Kenma a better life and a chance to become a better person.
  • Smart Jerk and Nice Moron: Though Kenma’s bullying is playful, the trope explains their relationship well.
  • Talking to the Dead: After each death (save a few they deemed undeserving), Yutaka made makeshift graves for the person, speaking their thoughts directed towards the dead as they did so. They also had several monologues speaking to Hiroki Kajiwara and Kenma.
  • Trauma Button: If Yutaka cannot fulfill something they are asked to, they will promptly panic over it. They also panic over crunching sounds, eggs, and ‘get lost, cracker bones’ after the game.
  • Video Game Cruelty Punishment: While not a video game, Yu did get murdered for hitting Yori just twice.

    Avalon Whitworth

  • Apologizes a Lot: In Chapter 4 in particular.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows
  • Blind Obedience: She literally never learned what critical thinking is. This is taken to the extreme of happily accepting her killing game situation. At least, she starts out like this.
  • Crazy Survivalist: Her cult, including herself.
  • Fiery Redhead: Grows into one of these.
  • Gas Mask, Longcoat: Related to her talent.
  • Meaningful Echo: Whoosh. It's used as her transition message as an apparent reference to the Subreddit, up until Chapter Three's trial, when it's used as a sound effect for when Avalon lets the air out of her air tanks in a Wham Line.
  • Messy Hair: It's contained by grease and a topknot, and somehow, it's still all over the place.
  • Nothing but Skin and Bones: Due to her cult upbringing. Anything to eat that isn't from a can is a rare luxury down there. At one point, Avalon takes her gloves off to type on her eID, and Keaton is surprised at just how small her hands are.
  • Picky Eater: Hates baked beans.
  • The Pig-Pen: Literally doesn't know what a shower is until the killing game.
  • Post Apocalyptic Gasmask: She wears it because she genuinely believes that the air is toxic and that it is the apocalypse.
  • Redhead In Green: Wears a drab green coat over everything.
  • The Remnant: Vows to kill Monokaeru and end the killing game... at the end of the final trial, where the only person she's sparing would be the mastermind.
  • The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized: Tries to end the killing game... by going full feral and bashing Monokaeru in with a chair.
    • A similar incident occurred in Chapter Three, where she gets so fed up with Fujio's religious spiel that she takes off her air tanks and uses them to bash his face in.
      • Even more extreme and amazing when you realize she needs those to breathe and went on to have breathing problems for it.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Once she learns what a shower is, she is rather lovely and figures out some of how to put herself together.
  • The Shutin: Due to her cult upbringing, Avalon has literally never seen sunlight before the killing game.
  • Significant Green-Eyed Redhead
  • Super Gullible: Due to her cult upbringing.
  • Sorry That I'm Dying: Sorry that I tried to stab myself.
  • Wham Line: When she vows to end the killing game.
    Well, if the fire wants to consume her...
    (Rattle. The mask hits the ground.)
    Then let her burn.
    • Chapter Three also has a wham line of sorts from her. Just before using her air tanks as a weapon, she lets the air out with a resounding whoosh.

Danganronpa V2: Visceral Rift contains these tropes:

  • Playing Card Motifs: Each participant has a card out of the standard international deck. The different suits enable the participants to cast different magical spells. Furthermore, the mastermind is noted as having the Joker card, and the traitor working alongside him has a Jack, while everyone else has cards up to 10.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: It is revealed that the game was a simulation, and none of the dead are truly dead.
  • To Absent Friends: After Chapter 3, The Cup Song becomes a motif to honor the deaths of the Chapter 3 victims. Several other coping and mourning techniques are used, but this is the most prevalent.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Chapter 3: Holy fucking shit!
      • First of all, the fact that there are four victims at all (technically 6, counting Niji and Lucifer); all of them are murdered brutally and turned into literal dolls by the same person, who in fact happens to be the traitor working alongside the mastermind.
      • The kills themselves start and finish before Monokaeru even distributes motives, so the chapter starts off with Teddy missing in action with only a mess in the kitchen and a carton of drugged milk to tip people off on where he might have gone... until the next day, anyway, where everyone else is awoken by Noah screaming in anguish instead of the usual morning announcement and is left with 4 bodies to investigate.
      • The trial itself is a lot to take in, even with everyone having been suspicious of Fujio already; specifically he proceeds to go on a religious spiel after being revealed, leading to Avalon all but bashing his face in with one of her air tanks.
      • Jonah himself executes Fujio instead of Monokaeru, revealing himself as the Ultimate Catastrophe as he does so.
  • "When I'm Gone" Song: The Cup Song becomes a bit of a motif of the Chapter 3 victims both before and after death.
