Well... I dont think the Grimdark Train has just left the tracks, its lept off the rails, crashed into an orphanage where the Cop three days from retirement helps care for the sick, and then exploded lighting the entire block including the hospital and the retirement home on fire. And then caused the Apocalypse and gave Hitler a time machine.
User AnacronistRocketeer summing up the game's world.

AK47's ISOT Mapgame (also known as AKISOT) is a mapgame on AlternateHistory.com lead by TV Tropes' own AK 47 Productions. It works as your typical Mapgame, only that this particular one has been noted for its grimdark nature.

Before we begin, let's meet our contestants:

    open/close all folders

    In the Americas
  • The United States of America (aka the Eternal Union) from RvBOmally's Monster Mash.
  • The city of Night Vale.
  • The Republic of Texas, from an original ATL where Texas became a Military Dictatorship in the years after the American Civil War was won by the CSA.
  • The Spiritual Republic of La Plata, from an ATL where "Omni theocracy" was founded as a religion during the colonization of the New World. This religion formed the identity of the colony even after it gained independence.
  • The United States of America note  from Superman: Red Son.
  • The North American Union from The Two Georges.
  • The Terran Federation (taking up eastern Canada, New England, New York, Ireland, and Iceland) from Starship Troopers. (They seem to be a mix of both the book's and the movie's version of the Federation.)
  • PAC-Perú from the LAISOT mapgame.
  • Tipoca City - Kamino from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
  • Freddy Fazbear's Theme Park from an ATL where the Bite of '87 never occurred and the restaurant became a theme park instead. The murders of the children still occurred however.
  • The Galactic Empire from Tossed Through Crosstime (originally from Return of the Jedi).
  • The Central American Federation from Fallen, A Balkanized USA Nation Game.
  • The Mule from Foundation.
  • The Kingdom of Atlas from an AU of RWBY.
  • The People's Republic of Mexico from the universe of Red Dawn (1984).
  • The Brain Meteor from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.
  • The state of New Jersey from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
  • The state of Delmarva from Steven Universe.
  • Gorjira from Godzilla (1998).
  • The State of Lower Virginia, from a dream a user had that involves a CSA hideaway that has vast tunnels with magic life extending mushrooms.

    In Europe

    In Africa

In West Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and Oceania

    In Green Antarctica
  • The continent of Green Antarctica from its eponymous timeline.
  • The Kingdom of Antarctica, from a world where Godlike beings came to Earth during World War I and the Sun Goddess used her powers to create a Kingdom in the once frozen wasteland.
  • Gravity Falls from an alternate version of the show where Wendy Corduroy is the same age as the Pines twins.
  • The city of Danville from a universe where Fireside Girls Troop 46231 can transform into magical girls capable of defending the Tri-State area against hordes of monstrous creatures and villains from the Dark Zone. (A crossover of Phineas and Ferb & Pretty Cure.)
  • Princess Amethyst from Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld.
  • The Dragon Realms of Avalar from The Legend of Spyro.
  • The island of Kergulia, from an ATL where the micro continent of Kergulia was never sunk to the bottom of the sea and now holds some very strange wildlife.

A map of the world can be found here.

A reference thread for the mapgame can be found here while the actual game thread is here.

For all intents and purposes, the game has ended. A map of the game's far future is here.

A sequel, entitled AKISOT II, began on September 15, 2016 and finished mid-2017. It was followed by AKISOT III, which started in 2018 and finished up in May 2019.

AK47's ISOT Mapgame contains examples of:

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: The AHS invents the Ragnarok gun, an energy gun designed to kill gods and immortal beings. They're issued to AHS forces in the final battle with the world's various evil Gods and immortal beings.
  • Abnormal Ammo: The Soviets fire mistletoe laced missiles at Baldr in Late Year 2.
  • Acid Reflux Nightmare: Lex Luthor dismisses his dreams of Terrador as being caused by something he ate.
  • Alien Invasion:
    • In Early Year 2, there seem to be more Gems on their way to Earth and according to Pearl, they're not friendly.
    • Played straight between the Klingons and Zannah.
  • The Alliance:
    • The Alliance of Luthor's USA, the NAU, the Terran Federation, and Texas to fight the Eternal Union.
    • The Alliance for Human Salvation consisting so far of Luthor's USA, the NAU, the Terran Federation, Peru, Mexico, China, New Jersey, and Central America.
    • The Global Alliance for Good consisting of the Kingdom of Antarctica, Avalar, Gravity Falls, Danville, La Plata, the Empire of the Eternal Night, Tipoca, and Nebulos along with Somalia, Zannah, and Minga Primus holding observer status.
  • Anticlimax Boss: In-Universe. Sao Saint is killed by one Klingon missile.
  • Anti-Hero: The Alliance for Human Salvation, the alliance being mostly founded out of xenophobia (mostly from Luthor's USA and the Terran Federation) for the non-Human threats/nations of the world and aren't exactly the nicest or most moral of people.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Whenever Kratos went up against one of the Norse Gods, usually the Aesir would lose a limb in the process.
  • Ascended Extra: The Brain Meteor, who was originally a Monster of the Week villain in his source material, is promoted to being a minor villain in North America.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Japan's war technology, despite being very advanced in some places, is ultimately weaker than Chinese military gear. It ultimately takes Demons from Hell under Malefor's command for Japan to fight back against the Chinese.
  • Babies Ever After: In Early Year 5, Cynder lays her first egg.
  • Back from the Dead: During New Year's Eve of Late Year 2, Elsa and Carl are lead out of Hell by a guide. Not really. Turns out that they have been wandering around Hell thanks to an illusion that made them think they were wandering Africa to get to safety.
  • Balance of Power: As of Year 10, its the UNM (United Nations equivalent with only Human nations allowed except for some), the GAG (alliance of fantasy nations and non-xenophobic Human nations), the Organization of Sovereignty and Friendship (the Terran Hanesatic League and their satellite nations), and the Coalition of Security and Prosperity (a bloc lead by Palatine filled with dictatorships and rogue nations).
  • Balkanize Me: The ultimate fate of Nazi Germany and the Empire of the Rising Sun once they're defeated and the Ottoman Empire once the Civil War wraps up.
  • Batman Gambit: The Soviets assassinate Iranian Shah Reza Pahlavi and turn it into a frame job on Mordor and the Ottomans, enemies of the USSR. It works.
  • Behemoth Battle: One occurs between the Giant Pumpkin and Godzilla in Late Year 2 with four more battles between them within the next couple of years.
  • Big Bad: Plenty to go around.
    • The Eternal Union is this to pretty much every nation in North America.
    • The Galactic Empire is this for only Central America so far.
    • The Empire of the Rising Sun for China.
    • The Klingons are this for Zannah.
    • The Third Reich for the USSR for obvious reasons.
    • Malefor turned to be this for the entire world.
  • Big Badass Battle Sequence: After the Bugs and the Skaven take over Eastern Australia, large gigantic battles take place in the outback with fighters on both sides numbering in the millions.
  • Bittersweet Ending:
    • Small example with Arendelle's liberation. While the Nazis occupying the country have to choice but to leave to combat the threats in the mainland, Arendelle has no other choice but to sign several treaties with the Nazis that has them become a puppet state. It gets better when the Terrans and the Soviets kick the Nazis out after they truly liberate the nation.
    • For the world as a whole, while Malefor, Hell, Nazi Germany, Albion, the Eternal Union, and the Empire of the Rising Sun are defeated, the world took a hell of a lot of casualties in the process, the Soviets have taken about 40-50 million deaths due to all of the Aesir sacrifices, the NAU is in shambles, something called The Tempest swallows up Night Vale and parts of northern Arizona, Zannah is about ready to collapse, Sao Saint is dead, the Red Army is out for the blood of all Germans, only 500,000 Lithuanians are left in the Lithuanian SSR, 5,000 Pole are know to have survived in Nazi occupied Poland, the Homeworld Gems still holdout in the ruins of the southern Eternal Union, the Kurds are either deported or killed en masse by the Ottomans and the Iranians, severe ecological disasters are plaguing the world, the Skaven still have demonic abilities and own a superweapon that can can raise the dead within 500 miles, create a localized warp storm, and is virulent enough to turn the continent into an eldritch hellhole, the AHS evolves into a UN with a xenophobic stance, and the Galactic Empire is making their own alliance with other dictatorships or rouge states.
    • A lighter example for the Eye of Terror in Africa. While the Aretes eliminate the Eye, it's death causes everything within both the Eye and the Altered Reality Zones to be stripped bare of life and infrastructure, reality is now permanently distorted in the areas, and who knows how many lives were lost during the Eye's existence.
    • In the Epilogue, the world was wracked by the CSP war and the Independence Day aliens invading but was able to survive both of them. Now the worse thing is tensions between the Hansa and the PRC, spirits of all that have died in North America's past (before and after the Event) plaguing the far north, Central America becoming a xenophobic dictatorship, Ape terrorists in Peru, Sun Queen radicals in La Plata, a tense border situation between Peru and La Plata, the Empire of Eternal Night becoming a military dictatorial monarchy under General-Emperor Armure Brillant, undead Germans being a problem thanks to Sauron's mages, CSP enclaves still existing, the Emirate of Nejd finally acting out their plans to invade the Emirate of Hejaz, and Australia being a permanently messed up penal colony filled with Chaos cultists, CSP POWs & supporters, a Tempest like anomaly called the Dream Time, a Warp Storm, Godzilla, and God knows what else. in comparison to the beginning, the global situation is very tame.
  • Body Horror: The Mushroom Bomb used against the Klingons screwed them up good, but at the cost of horrifying the GAG forces.
What was once a massive Klingon unit was now a mix of horrifying misshapen ghouls, giant masses made up of multiple writhing Klingons, and Klingons who appeared to be changing slowly into strange creatures, including horrifying hybrids of candies and humans, and, in one report, a rainbow colored unicorn who spoke Klingon.
  • Boring, but Practical: To combat the Chinese, the first thing the Japanese improves on their own tech? Actually add rockets to their Jet Tengus.
  • Brain Food: The Brain Meteor absorbs the brains of victims and gains control of them.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: Part of the description for Great Britain's immediate post-ISOT status.
Great Britain continues on largely as normal in the new world it finds itself in; the sun still rises, tea still tastes good, and the Queen is still all-powerful and tentacly.
  • Brown Note: One message to come out of the Tempest ("Omsk is end. All will return to Omsk."), drove the staff of US radio stations that heard the message into insanity.
  • Bug War: The Bugs are fighting the Krieg and the Skaven for control of Australia.
  • The Cameo:
    • Colonel Sir Thomas Bushell, the protagonist of the Two Georges novel, makes a cameo as a commander of NAU forces in Late Year 1.
    • The playable Imperial Commander from Red Alert 3's Rising Sun campaign also makes an appearance in the same update.
  • Car Fu: Master Shake kills Zombie Lincoln with his Ferrari by complete accident after the fight between Lincoln, Frylock, Meatwad, and Steven spills out of the White House and into the street while Shake driving to the Smithsonian to loot it.
  • Celestial Bureaucracy: Inverted. It's Hell that has become a bureaucratic nightmare due to all the new arrivals.
  • Chekhov's Volcano: Several volcanic hot spots are opened up after the Decepticons use them to harvest Energon. When they erupt, they cause ecological effects and crop failure due to volcanic ash going in the air and blocking out the sun.
  • Chummy Commies: Luthor's USA has good relations with the USSR, Red Dawn!Mexico, and the PRC. Though Mexico is reluctant at first with the Americans and only allied with them due to the threat of the Galactic Empire.
  • Civil War: The Ottoman Empire was in this condition from the very start of the game.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: The GRU and the KGB torture captured Nazi POWs to get them to reveal information on the Norse Gods.
  • Les Collaborateurs: Some Humans left behind on Australia once it's been overrun join the Krieg to survive either out of desperation or genuine belief.
  • Conscription: The NAU has enacted conscription in the face of the Eternal Union's zombie hoards.
  • Cool Plane: Chinese J-10 fighters vs Japanese Jet Tengus? The J-10s win.
  • Cool Versus Awesome: Godzilla vs a giant Pumpkin.
  • Cult of Personality: When Luthor gets reelected for President in Late Year 8, some observers quietly note that Luthor has formed one around himself despite the US still being a democratic state.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • The Eternal Union easily overruns New Jersey, Delmarva, Lower Virginia, and parts of the NAU due to a combination of Zerg Rush tactics and surprise attacks. The Terrans and Luthor's USA stomp them right back though.
    • The Galactic Empire dishes this out to Central America due to the Empire already having a military buildup.
    • The Locust easily defeat the forces of the Empire of the Eternal Night due to the Empire's primitive technology.
    • The Klingons stomp Zannah once the Klingons invade.
    • When Peru invades Eternal Union Cuba, the invasion a quick success thanks to Peru's advanced technology.
    • This happens to the Iranians after invading the Ottoman Empire thanks to Mordor and Kratos.
  • Darker and Edgier: Noted so far for being wracked with war, mass death, and genocide the minute the ISOTs were done.
CannedTech: Boy this is gonna' be grimdark. Oh well, why stop the train when it's already in motion?
  • Day of the Jackboot: The Nazis take over Arendelle and an invasion of the Soviet Union soon follows.
  • Deadly Gas:
    • Both the Nazis and the Soviets use chemical weapons sometime after the initial invasion.
    • FEV gas is unleashed on parts of Siberia by The Master.
    • Chemical weapons are unleashed on parts of Siberia in an attempt to kill The Master and his mutants.
    • The Golden Wolves terror group in the Ottoman Empire use Chlorine gas on an Iranian regiment.
  • Deal with the Devil:
    • Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamind III allies with Sauron with the hopes of holding onto his Empire. It helps him keep the Kurdish lands but everything beyond the Levant is beyond his control.
    • Emperor Yoshiro is offered the chance to make this kind of deal with Malefor to bring about the defeat of China. He requests some time to think about the offer and eventually takes it in Late Year 3.
    • Zombie Lincoln is offered two deals. The first with Malefor, who offers to release all the souls of the Eternal Union's undead soldiers in exchange for an alliance and the second with Peridot, who says that she can help him out if he "play host to coming help." He agrees and so Homeworld Gems start fighting the AHS forces in the Eternal Union.
  • Death Is Not Permanent: If you count being sent to Dante Alighieri's version of Hell any better than your previous situation, then no death isn't permanent. Now that Hell has been invaded and freed from Malefor, it remains to be seen what is done with the place.
  • Death World:
    • Europe went to Hell in a handbasket in less than six months.
    • By the time the Krieg, the Bugs, and the Skaven take over Australia, the three factions are fighting to control to entire mainland and survivors are living in a Mad Max- esque lifestyle. Since the Skaven set off the Death's Head Bomb in Australia, the entire continent has gone straight into Hell on Earth.
  • Determinator:
    • The rebels in Central America keep on fighting even after Central America has been under Galactic Imperial control for nearly a decade.
    • Props also have to go to Kristoff. He traverses the empty lands of Scandinavia and the Fallen lands to get to the Soviet Union to deliver a note from Queen Anna, who request Soviet aid in liberating her country.
  • Defiant to the End: By the time Year 3 begins, the Eternal Union and the Nazis are determined to go down hard. Though in the Nazis case, they have the Orcs, the Fallen, the Locust, and the Soviets on their ass and none of them are known for showing mercy.
  • Divided States of America: Luthor's USA only consists of the states of California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington State, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. Delmarva, Aqua Teen!New Jersey, Danville, and Gravity Falls are also separated from their versions of the US.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After the NAU and the USSR spent about four turns getting their asses kicked by the Eternal Union and Nazi Germany respectively, the two nations manage to gain the upper hand by Year 3.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: Lex starts to get warnings of possible cataclysmic events that may take place from Terrador but dismissed them as a reaction to something he ate.
  • Driven to Suicide: Occasionally during the darkest days of the Nazi front of the Soviet War of Survival, some Soviet soldiers killed themselves out of fear of being sacrificed to the Norse Gods or mutated by the FEV virus.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Elsa dies to keep the SS from taking over Arendelle. She fails but the fact that the snow queen herself fought off Nazis is awesome in itself.
  • Eagle Squadron: Chinese trained Cairainian volunteer units see action in Vietnam and Korea.
  • Earth-Shattering Kaboom: Averted. Whatever is inbound for Earth, "Late Year 2" mentions that it isn't going to blow up the Earth if it hits.
  • Eldritch Abomination:
    • Albion (aka Great Britain) is ruled by a Lovecraftian style one. This alone puts her on the Terrans' hit list.
    • As the war against the Eternal Union ruins the Union more and more, Linneaus the Mad summons the Great Pumpkin to rages across the Union.
    • The death of Sao Saint unleashes the Void Dragon.
  • The Emperor: Emperors Palatine and Yoshiro. The latter is the Big Bad for China.
  • The Empire: The Galactic Empire, the Empire of the Rising Sun, and the Empire of Eternal Night. The latter isn't evil though, insofar as Fantasy Counterpart Cultures of the First French Empire aren't.
  • Enemy Civil War:
    • The Norse Gods, when they start encountering things or being that could hurt them and their newfound "drug", divided over continuing with their addiction to eating the souls of Ponies and Eldar and fight against Odin or going cold turkey and getting their shit together especially after Heimdall was killed by Odin.
    • One also occurs between the Locust as they fight over whether or not to take out the Nocturne Ponies or take out the Germans.
  • Enemy Mine:
    • The Gems that were hostile to Humans ally with the Crystal Gems to fight the Eternal Union. At first.
    • The President of Texas makes it clear to Luthor, provisional Governor-General John F. Kennedy, and the Terran leader that just because their countries have a common enemy in the form of the Eternal Union doesn't mean they're all suddenly friends.
    • Anti-Soviet partisans and government forces unite to fight the Nazis, Orcs, and Fallen.
    • This was the situation with the status quo between Global Alliance for Good and the Alliance for Human Salvation during the World War. The AHS does not like working with "Xenos" (i.e: most of the members of GAG) but realize that working with the ones that don't want to kill/enslave them all is the best option to rid the world of the bigger evils for the moment.
    • When the time comes to take down Hell, the AHS and the GAG put aside their differences, the Cybertronians and Decepticons work together, the Exodites fight side by side with Kriegers, and even Lucifer had enough of Malefor's shit.
Lucifer: You’ve been freeloading here long enough. It’s time to pay off your debts, and share some of that power.
  • Energy Weapon:
    • After the GRU Spetznaz kills The Master's Lieutenant and takes his Gatling Laser, the USSR gets the Terran Hanseatic League to make droves of them for front line use. While the lasers work well on Nazis infantry, they have little effect on the Gods.
    • On the other hand, Chinese laser anti-air defenses work fine on the planes of the Luftwaffe.
    • The Terran Hanseatic League is also working on more laser based weapons besides the reversed engineered Gatling Laser that are already being pumped out by them.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: When the Iranians finally recontact the Nazis, the Iranians immediately get far the hell away from them after seeing just how far the Nazis have fallen into cruelty. Keep in mind that the Iranians have either worked their Jewish and Kurdish populations to death or outright exterminated them in their own world.
  • Evil Versus Evil: The Nazis and Sauron have a falling out thanks to a drug addled Hermoor attacking Barad Dur. The Fallen also fight them both while focusing less on the Soviets thanks to Soviets offering them gold and Malefor offering them technology. The Locust get involved after the Nazis botched a diplomatic mission.
  • Expanded States of America:
    • When the Eternal Union falls to the AHS, the US gains a sizable chunk and Delmarva is taken in as a state. Later, the cities on Kergulia vote for becoming a US state and the former Eternal Union will become sections of US territories with the NAU and the Terran Federation maintaining special economic rights. As of Early Year 8, the US is planning to federate with the NAU and Britain to form the Anglo-American Commonwealth.
    • By the epilogue Luthor's USA, the NAU, the former Eternal Union, North Texas (taken from Texas after they fell into civil war), Britain, Kergulia, and Tazania along with a colonized Hawaii, Alaska (split between East and West), New Zealand, and Timor have formed into the Anglo-American Commonwealth with 56 states and 10 territories.
  • Expy: The Empire of Eternal Night is more or less Equestria with the serial numbers filed off with a heavy dash of Napoleonic France.
  • Fanon: In-Universe. The PRC and Mexico seem to run on this due to the media that represents their respective universes mention little to none about them.
  • Fantastic Drug: Ponies and the Eldar are this to the Aesir, giving them a bad acid trip not unlike LSD or Bath Salts.
  • Fantastic Nuke: In Late Year 2, the Somalis use a Mushroom Bomb with Sao Siant's permission to nuke a held Klingon city. It works but the after effects were so horrifying, they buried the bombs deep in a hole somewhere.
  • Fantastic Slurs: "Xeno(s)" became a term that refers to the various non Human species present.
  • Fictional United Nations: Called the United Nations of Mankind here. It starts out as a Humans only club but eventually allows the non Human nations in.
  • Frameup: The Soviets make their assassination of the Shah look like the Ottomans and Mordor did it so all three would kill each other in a war. While the Iranians fall for it, the war goes south because of Mordor and Sauron controlled Kratos.
  • From Bad to Worse: Just when the World War ended, volcanoes in the Ring of Fire go off and screw over the livestock and The Realm of Souls in the Warp unleashes the Chaos God Krone.
  • The Fundamentalist: Some of the survivor bands in Australia have taken up a very odd kind of fundamentalist Christianity that has the Kriegers depicted as angels and servants of God.
  • Ghost Town: What Lower Virginia is reduced to by the fall of the Eternal Union.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: Queen "Victoria" comes straight out of a Lovecraft novel.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • At the end of "Early Year 2", it's implied that the USSR will ally with the Galactic Empire hoping that they can kill the Norse Gods. Downplayed in that they do ally with the Empire but Putin has not exactly sold his soul to the Emperor so to speak.
    • Emperor Yoshiro was also offered help by Malefor to fight the Chinese in the form of controllable spirits. While Yoshiro knew of the dangers present with dealing with Gods in this world, he has no other choice with the Chinese getting closer to the Home Islands and knowledge of a coup to be led by his own son.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The use of a Mushroom Bomb against the Klingons worked well but the aftereffects of it made the GAG too horrified to use them again. Until Somalia uses two on Chaos cultists in Mozambique, which pisses off the GAG and the Mozambican government in exile.
  • Government in Exile:
    • The government of Central America flee to the US after the Galactic Empire invades and occupies the country.
    • The Delmarvan and Jersey governments are evacuated to the US after the Terrans get them out.
  • Halloween Episode: The Great Pumpkin is unleashed on Halloween.
  • Hell: Is present as a "country" of sorts and resides in Northern Africa.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Empress Hecate sacrifices herself to allow the Aretes bearers to escape.
  • The High Queen: Queen Elsa, Queen Anna, and Queen Sao Siant.
  • Human Sacrifice:
    • Done en mass by the Nazis (who else?) for their Norse Gods, who sacrifices include citizens of Arendelle and the Soviet Union.
    • Later, the Eternal Union sacrifices infants to open a portal to Hell to receive troops from Malefor.
  • Humongous Mecha:
    • During the defense of the regional capital of Pyongyang, the Japanese deploy three King Oni mechas. They do put a dent in the PLA force but the mechas are defeated.
    • There are also various Autobots and Decepticons in Africa.
  • Interspecies Romance: La Plata is the first nation to legalize interspecies marriage.
  • Invaded States of America: Averted for Luthor's USA but by "Early Year 2", forces from Luthor's USA, the NAU, the Terrans, and Texas were pushing into Eternal Union territory.
  • Invisibility Cloak: The Klingons come up with the idea for one for individual soldiers in Early Year 3 but is scrapped for being deemed cowardly.
  • Kill All Humans: Sauron's ultimate goal.
  • Kill It with Fire:
    • How the Terrans keep the Pumpkin Patch from entering their territory.
    • The Mexican Revolutionary Air Force (MRAF) coats the area where the Brain Meteor is in with Napalm. It doesn't work.
  • The Klan: The KKK is one of the resistance factions in the Eternal Union.
  • La Résistance: Before the game even started, several nations were fighting various rebel groups:
    • The Ottomans were fighting Kurds, Jews, Christians, Arabs, Shia Muslims, and Yemeni & Omani rebels.
    • The Japanese has rebels in the flavor of Chinese communists, a KMT splinter group, Communist Koreans, pro-Allied Koreans, the Viet-Min, pro-Allied Vietnamese, and Filipino rebels.
    • The USSR were fighting separatists in the Baltic and Ukraine SSRs.
    • Great Britain also had a resistance led by Sherlock Holmes and Watson against Queen Victoria that Lina Inverse later gets involved in.
    • The Crystal Gems and the Aqua Teens in Delmarva and New Jersey caused problems for the Eternal Union as well during the war.
    • The Galactic Empire now has to deal with rebels in occupied Central America.
    • When the Iranians invade Mesopotamia, the Kurds, Arab rebels, the Golden Wolves (government sanctioned death squads), and Ottoman Loyalists become their problem as well.
    • The Tasmanian Devils of Equilatoral Tasmania also fight their Decepticon occupiers.
    • Kristoff and the Rock Trolls work to sabotage the Nazis however they can.
    • The Viet-Min later turn their attention towards the Chinese due to a bounty being put on Ho Chi Minh's head though they work it out the bounty is later lifted.
    • As it turns out, the Eternal Union has these from within as well in the form of the Industrial Workers of the World, the Sons of Liberty, the African Liberation Army, and the Klu Klux Klan.
  • Lampshade Hanging: From Late Year 7:
Antarctican Military general upon hearing of the Eye of Terror: Are we seriously going through this shit again? This is starting to get ridiculous!
  • Last of Their Kind:
    • The Apes that came along with Peru are the only ones of their kind that are in this world.
    • The Bugs in Australia are wiped out by the Skaven and the only remaining species are being studied by the Eco-Protectorate of Madagascar.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall:
    • During a mention of Freddy Fazbear's Theme Park in Late Year 2, it's mentioned that a park employee says that the world is looking like "a map game he saw online once".
    • One of the messages from the Tempest in Early Year 9 mentions something about "how this turn is going to go".
  • Macross Missile Massacre:
    • If White Star Castle were to ever declare their loyalty to Japan, the PRC plans to blast their ship apart with missiles firing from every possible direction.
    • In Late Year 2, the Soviets use Mistletoe laced missiles fired from mobile launchers to severely injure Baldr.
  • Mad God: The Norse Gods aren't mad, just hungry for scarifies.
  • Magic Versus Science: The Norse Gods are helping the Nazis invade the USSR with their magic powers. Said Gods and their powers are the only thing the Nazis have going for them.
  • The Magic Versus Technology War: A subversion of this for the war between the Nazis and the USSR. The Nazis are at least 20 years behind in tech but have Norse Gods doing the fighting for them and that's about it.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": At the meeting in Warfang, when it's confirmed that biblical Hell really does exist it makes the Human nations and other countries that recognize Hell are alarmed to say the least.
  • Mass Teleportation:
    • How all the countries, people, creatures, etc ended up here.
    • The Nazis use the Bitfrost to teleport soldiers behind enemy lines while the Devil’s Doorway are an Infernal version of the Bitfrost.
  • Military Coup:
    • The Hebitian military tries to pull one on the civilian government but fails.
    • The Peruvian military also pull this on the civilian government and succeed.
  • More Dakka: The Soviets are taking any and all forms of firepower to fight the Norse Gods.
  • The Multiverse: It appears that The Tempest broadcast videos and radio announcements from other worlds. Including from other mapgames on AlternateHistory.com.
The Tempest's first broadcast: Good Morrow, Children of World 47. Tonight’s top stories; Lord and Lady Nemesis were destroyed by the Elements of Harmony in Austria-Hungary; the AdMechs of Kronus successfully made a portal through the Warp, which led their counterparts within the USSA and the remnants of the Tanith First and Only; and the Rick Perry and Celest-A.I.s have arrived in the ruins of US-occupied South America, where they received a less-than-warm welcome from Aslan. More details at 11...
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Malefor and Lex Luthor playing chess in Early Year 2.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Averted. Alternate universe versions of Lin Biao, Kim il-Sung, Ho Chi Minh, John F. Kennedy, among others make appearances.
  • Nuclear Option:
    • Defied somewhat as an option to the Soviet Union. Before the SS disabled all Soviet nukes for the invasion, the Soviets got some off at Dresden, Bremen, and Dortmund along with some German military bases.
    • China did not use nukes on Japan until the Japanese started using demons from Hell as front line troops.
    • After Nimrod, a former Egyptian king that is now a giant, fights against both Godzilla and the Great Pumpkin. As their fight gets closer to the front lines, Luthor authorizes a tactical nuke to be used on the three of them. The Great Pumpkin is killed, Nimrod is out in a coma, and Godzilla's heart ends up somehow regenerating his whole body after a few years.
    • Part of Operation: Icky Vicky involves nuking Queen Victoria.
    • Luthor authorizes nukes to be used on the Homeworld Gems in Early Year 9.
    • The USSR plans to do this to the Fallen if another war begins.
  • Official Couple: Spyro and Cynder get married in Early Year 2.
  • Only Sane Man: Prince Tatsu is this in comparison to his father. So much so that he is able to convince his father not to destroy the Chinese capitol of Chongqing with a Psonic Decimator attack for fear of possible retaliation. He also tries to convince his father to try to call a truce with China to keep what left of the Empire but fails to convince him. it gets to the point where Tatsu plans to overthrow his father to save Japan but later defects to the AHS instead.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: The undead of the Eternal Union are smart enough to use guns and military tactics. Zombie version of Lincoln (who is president), Ulysses S. Grant, Philip Sheridan, George Thomas, William T. Sherman, George B. McClellan, William Rosecrans, Ambrose Burnside, George Armstrong Custer, and Robert E. Lee also exist.
  • The Power of Friendship: The Aretes gain power the more their bearers bond to each other.
  • President Evil: If you ask the Australians and the visitors of Fazbear Park, this is what Lex Luthor is to them. Tough this seems to be due to not recognizing him as his Red Son counterpart. Zombie President Lincoln also counts.
  • Private Military Contractors: The various American corporate PMCs that are still in Australia are attacked by just about every faction on the island.
  • Puppet King: Anna is made Queen of Arendelle after the Nazis invade and Elsa is killed. She has no real power as the Nazis control the country from behind the scenes.
  • Puppet State:
    • The NAU is pretty much the USA's puppet.
    • The Galactic Empire tries to make Mexico this only for Mexico to drift towards the US instead.
    • The Nazis also invade and puppetize Arendelle.
  • Pyromaniac: It's been rumored that Sherman is only in the war just to set things on fire.
  • Rebel Leader: Kim-il Sung, Zhang Xueliang, Ho Chi Min, and Lin Biao lead various resistance movements against the Japanese.
  • Refuge in Audacity: When the Japanese use their King Onis during the Battle for Pyongyang, PLA high command are outright baffled that the Japanese actually deployed anime style giant robots.
  • The Remnant: The Australian military units left behind in the country either formed their own survivors bands or joined others.
  • Rousing Speech:
    • When Princess Hecate goes to the Eldar for help, Corsairs leader Captain Aragriel gives one of these to convince his fellow chieftains to help.
Captain Aragriel: Are we not the Eldar, for Khaine‘s sake? Were we not the defenders of the galaxy for untold millennia? We fought against the foul Orks and treacherous Necrons, even the blasphemous forces of Chaos, and we defeated them time and again. We led the lesser races against the rising darkness, and we can - we will - do so again. I don’t know about any of you, but I’d rather be tossed into the maw of She Who Thirsts before I let anyone call us cowards!
    • Malefor gives one to the Denziens of Hell to rally them behind him.
Malefor: For our salvation is not down there in Purgatory. It is out there, in the land of the living. Join me, you damned souls, and we can escape this prison. Together, we can take over this world, remake it in our image, with no eternal punishments, only an end to our suffering. Let us rise together, for we have nothing to lose but our pain!
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something:
    • Elsa fights the SS when they invade her country.
    • Queen Sao Saint also fights alongside her troops against the Klingons.
    • Empress Hecate fights Odin and the remaining Aesir in the city of Iris alongside the Aretes (the Empire of Eternal Night's Elements of Harmony), and some teams of Eldar. She sacrifices herself to allow the Aretes to escape.
  • Running Gag: Various jokes of Aceh not being able to "into relevance" are made at the country's expense.
  • Salt the Earth: The military of the Eternal Union switches to using this tactic as they burn down every city they find (this supports the rumors of Sherman being a pyromaniac).
  • Satan: Was the ruler of Hell until he dragged Malefor down to somewhere deeper than Hell.
  • Satanic Archetype: Sauron is thought as this in the Ottoman successor states aside from the rump Ottoman Empire itself.
  • Satan Is Good: Downplayed. When Malefor gains too much power and threats to take over the world, Lucifer himself decides to drag him off to... somewhere. Before this, he was content to sit back and see where Malefor's plan went.
  • Schizo Tech: The Eldar fight with a mix of laser guns and primitive lances and spears.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The Eldar and the Empire of Eternal Night abandon their occupation of the former Third Reich after it proves to be disastrous for them.
  • Security Blanket: Linnaus was petting one of these after the Great Pumpkin gets nuked.
  • Semper Fi:
    • Luthor's USA sends help to the NAU in the form of, among other ways, the Green Lantern Marine Corps.
    • The Texan Marine Corps also invades Eternal Union held Grand Isle, Louisiana after Eternal Union forces attack Texas.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Shown Their Work: A fair amount of work had to go into finding things that would harm the Norse Gods.
  • Soul Jar: When Malefor sends in reinforcements in the form of the brainwashed deceased of the world, Luthor starts experimenting with using animatronics from Freddy Fazbear's Amusment Park to house souls to deny Malefor more recruits.
  • Space-Filling Empire: Subverted. At the start of the game, the USSR has its pre-dissolution borders, Zannah de-facto controlled all of central Africa, the Ottomans stretched from Anatolia to the Arabian Peninsula, the NAU owned a large part of North America, and Japan owned parts of SE Asia and the Pacific. By Year 10, only the USSR and the NAU still qualify for this trope as Japan is reduced to the Home Islands, Zannah is a chaotic mess, and the Ottomans were in the middle of the civil war when they were ISOTed and are now a rump state in Anatolia. By the epilogue, the largest nations by sheer size would be the USSR, the PRC, the Anglo-American Commonwealth, the Hansa, Peru, La Plata, and the Terran Federation. In that order.
  • Squick: A general In-Universe reaction to the various artifacts found in the Antarctican temples leftover by the Precursors.
  • State Sec:
    • The SS were sent to invade Arendelle and kill Elsa. Afterwards, they are sent to disable Soviet nukes to begin the invasion of the USSR.
    • Professor Moriarty is made head of the new secret police of Albion after Victoria is killed and replaced by Richard III and Oswald Mosley as King and Prime Minister respectively.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Malefor started to make blink and you'll miss its appearance in capitol cities across the globe.
  • Summon Bigger Fish: In Early Year 2, there was talk among Soviet mythologists under military payroll to summon a Slavic God that is implied to be Chernobog. Putin dismisses the idea almost instantaneously due to how batshit insane the idea simply is and that they would need to feed it just like the Nazis are stuck feeding their Gods.
  • Take a Number: The line for new souls to be admitted into Hell has increased dramatically since the ISOT.
  • Teens Are Monsters: Downplayed in that Tamika Flynn and her army of teenagers have been taking US researchers hostage when they visit Night Vale.
  • Telepathy: The Mule is capable of this and is using it to work his way into control the Terran Federation.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: In an attempt to kill The Master in Siberia, the Soviet Air Force drops napalm, thermobraic weapons, bunker busting bombs, and chemical weaponry on the infected regions of Siberia. It fails to kill The Master but fucks up the Mutant Horde's advance in the region good.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Meta example as this was the general reaction to Arendelle being ISOTed across the North Sea from the Nazis.
  • Those Wacky Nazis: Nothing wacky about these Nazis considering they sacrifice so called Untermensch to Norse Gods. The wacky part is played straight with Inflatable Hitler.
  • Unfazed Everyman: Carl takes to being in Hell surprisingly well.
Carl: The crazy shit that’s happened to me, and the crap that I’ve done, I don’t think anything can surprise me now.
  • Villain Team-Up: Hell, Nazi Germany, Albion, the Eternal Union, and the Empire of the Rising Sun team up to form the Divine Axis of the Undying (DAU) in Early Year 5.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: In the Ottoman Empire, the Kurds & Arabs are fighting the Golden Wolves while all of them gang up on the Iranians. The Hashemites and Saudis are also duking it out for Arabia.
  • We Have Reserves: The Eternal Union just keeps sending wave after wave of undead troops at NAU, Terran, Texan, and American forces. Though by Late Year 2, they're resorting to the graves of civilians and CSA troops for reserves since Malefor is keeping Grant from resurrecting the undead soldiers by keeping their souls in Hell.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Since Loki fled to the Klingon Empire, he hasn't been heard from since. The Realm of Souls in the Warp swallows up most of Central Africa including the Klingon Empire, which Loki was in at the time.
  • Zerg Rush:
    • The Eternal Union drowns Aqua Teen!New Jersey, Delmarva, and the NAU (to be fair, the NAU was pretty damn disorganized due to the loss of at least half of their country, their capital, and Governor-General) with bodies of the undead. Doesn't save them from the Terrans or Luthor's USA.
    • This is also how the Skaven overruns parts of Eastern Australia.

Awesome

  • Elsa versus the Waffen SS. Even if she is killed, it was still awesome of her to defend her subjects from the Nazis.
  • The NAU, after getting their asses kicked by the Eternal Union, starts to fight back and puts the Union on the run.
  • The Battle for the Trans-Siberian railway. Facing a relentless Mutant horde, the Soviet garrison defends a key part of the railway that is vital to keep the Red Army in the west armed against the Fascist horde against overwhelming odds.
  • In Early Year 2, Lex Luthor is contacted by Malefor who offers the chance for Lex to work for him. Lex agrees to work for him if he can defeat Lex in a game of Chess. Agreeing to the challenge Malefor and Luthor play an intense game of chess all while Malefor magically changes the room to show scenes of suffering in Hell, the Aesir sacrificing their victims, and FEV virus mutating people. Luthor still wins and considers it to be the most intense match he's played since the Red Son.
  • After Sauron and the Nazis have a falling out, Sauron actually has little to hurt the Gods until Kratos, who has been offerd his services to him upon arrival, volunteers to fight the Aesir. Upon being sent to fight the war God Tyr in the Carpathians, the two fight to a stalemate, with Tyr actually getting his arm sliced by the Blade of Olympus.
  • Another weapon that can harm the Aesir? The Aretes, an alternate Elements of Harmony gifted to 8 beaers. When the poet god Bragi slaughters an entire Pony village just to get a high, the bearers unleash the Aretes on the God giving him severe burns all over his body. As an added bonus, the elements, when tried on the Locust, make the Locust literally sick and unable to defend themselves.

YMMV

  • Funny Moments: Seemingly getting curious, several of the Aesir Gods try the souls of non-Human creatures such as Locust, Ponies, and the Eldar. The Locust were similar enough to Humans but the Ponies and Eldar? Well...
three hours later, Odin found Heimdall in the ruins of Cologne, naked and drenched in blood, holding the Minister of Propaganda’s head in his hand, saying to himself “That’s some good shit”.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Spyro and Cynder getting married in Early Year 2 mostly due to some good news for once in a world currently wracked with warfare and/or suffering one way or another.
